Absolutely delighted this game is remastered so others can enjoy a game that is not the same HOPA format, be it storyline, tasks or graphics. So, fewer glitches in the game as it has always been; that's my understanding of a remastered game, no changes but smoother play.
When I first played this game, I used a PC; now, with a Mac, I will purchase it again. It may not be a collectible game in the usual sense but it is more in story and task, IMO, not the same old, same old.
Cateia Games are a format all their own complete with having to return to scenes to find an object to complete the task. It's the old school type of game and I miss this format. There is a lot more thinking involved.
For me, this game takes me back to the Golden Era of HOPA games but it's a lot more than that. The developer takes the usual tasks and spins them anew; the mini-games take time and require focus; the story captivates; I've never enjoyed HOP scenes so much. This game sets the bar high for other developers.
All this gaming excellence from developers who are in an actual war in Ukraine. Thank you, thank you, 5BN for games that are well worth the wait.
As a player, I would rather wait for game excellence--four or five games a year--whatever it takes for games of this quality. In the meantime, I'll play older games while I wait, like replaying the entire Lost Lands series. I'll build up my points, too!
For me, this is the best game in this series, which is a favorite of mine. Well done, GRandMA!
Rather than repeat much of what has been said, I just want to add that the attention to detail in all aspects of the game--storyline, hidden object scenes, mini-games/puzzles, graphics, music--is superb!
I really lost myself in the story and game play, something that happens rarely these days.
Review based upon completed play of the main game.
As I began playing the game, I was sure this was not a 3* game but for me, it really is just an OK game. It plays like a game that was not quite ready for release--no nuance, with the possible exception of the hidden object scenes. I found both the play and storyline clunky; that said, it is heads and shoulders above cookie-cutter games.
As others have noted, this isn't a MCF game, and I have really like the last two but this one is a miss for me. FWIW, I felt like I was playing one of the not good Mystery Trackers games. That said, I'll give the game another try some months down the road. Perhaps I'll feel differently.
My review is based upon completed play of the main game.
Novel plots are a bit of a jumble in this delightful new series of book travelers. The graphics and detail are stunning, so this game pleases the eye in every scene.
I like the idea of this series, and I hope the next game pays attention to more detail in the "books" they choose. The storyline is kind of Jane Eyre with a bit of Tom Sawyer, and if the idea was to recreate the experience of book browsing from shelf to shelf in a library, that makes a certain sense. But the bonus chapter reference to The Wizard of Oz makes no sense to me.
So, the pace of play is not smooth, which is not to say it isn't fun. It is. The developer has put a lot of work into changing up tasks and hidden object scenes, also mini-games/puzzles somewhat. I really appreciated this.
Overall, there is a freshness about this game and bonus chapter. Well done, Elephant Games!
Brava, Elephant Games! This game and the latest Crossroads offering are two of the best HOPAs we've seen in sometime. You are proving there is still some life in the HOPA genre. Thank you for all your hard work!
The storyline in Mark on the Bone, the latest game in Halloween Stories, is complicated (and unusual) and I had to really pay attention in order not to lose the thread of the story but that only made me want to stay with the game. It's a good story and I applaud its depth. There is plenty of information provided so there are no gaps. Not all stories are easy to tell.
The tasks are integrated into the storyline so there is not the feeling of completing a task for no reason. Elephant Games does love its emblems but they are not overly done. Hidden Object scenes and mini games/puzzles are varied and some have a new look. There is not the sense of same old, same old.

This is such a great sequel! The storylines, and I do mean plural, are choice-based so no two games end exactly the same. So choose quickly and don't dawdle (as I did a time or two). Brilliant move, Elephant Games, and best HOPA I have played in a long time.
Mini games and puzzles are moderately easy; HO scenes are interactive, my favorite, but even here there are some new twists. I have noticed this in other recent Elephant Games as well. Thank you.
This review is based upon completed play of the main game and partial play of the bonus chapter in which Mistress Eve enters the game as player.
Well done, Telltale Games! Excellent storyline with fully developed plot twists that make for a longer game. Tasks are integrated with the story so the pace of game play is engaging.
Hidden object scenes are mostly interactive but the traditional list find is not forgotten. Excessive clicking will get you noticed. Collectibles are obvious but the morphs not so much, for those who enjoy these extras.
Looking forward to the next game in this series as well as from Telltale Games.
This is one of the best storylines in the Grim Tales series, IMO. A series must evolve and like it or not, Grim Tales is moving in another direction. The fine writing in this game takes us there, as does an excellent bonus chapter. Well done, Elephant Games!
The game's pace is straightforward with some interesting plot twists; it is not a challenging game for experienced players. That said, the integration of storyline and tasks makes for a pleasant game experience. As well, I enjoyed the music, again great integration with plot and play.

However this game came to us, thank you BFG and Elephant Games. My sense is it took a bit of doing but together, you pulled it off!
When I say a little light on depth, I mean the pace is a bit inconsistent and the storyline seems that it was unfinished (when the war began) but voila! With a little help from some friends, there is a HOPA game. The story arc is a good one with some great plot twists (to explore in future games in the series?).
Thanks, all of you, for this effort. Stay strong, Ukraine, and here's to home in Armenia, Elephant Games (should that be the case).
My comments (this is too light to be a review) are based upon completed play of the main game and bonus chapter.
