you'll love getting them to operate in what seem to be the HObject version in this game. I only did the demo, but was refreshed by that clever interaction required for those scenes. Another refreshing bit...a keyhole through which you look and have to determine what is significant to key in on. There was enough difficulty in things not being obvious and yet once one figured it out, it was "of course, why didn't I think of that sooner?" I thought to buy it with the .99cent special added to the day's special of $2.99, but even though BF showed that as a possibility, it does not work. l'm going to have to wait and buy it with a coupon. However, I will buy it soon.
so we played it for about 30 minutes and were amused at the way the H obj scenes interacted. There were wax hands that moved in an eerie and yet not creepy or disgusting way. There were some other activities that were new and different, so we bought it and liked what we saw up to that point, which was not very far...so a continuation review is in order once we finish the game...but it was a buy and I hope you took advantage of the sale.
The graphics are fantastical in a pretty and imaginative way, the HObjects were easy to find for the most part and that kept the game moving quickly. The puzzles were intriguing and we were looking forward to getting to finish them after we bought the game. We had only done the trial and skipped the puzzles after playing them a bit to see how we liked them...we liked them a lot and really are looking forward to winning them. The objects are not all on the page where they are requested and that makes one have to go to other areas to find them and get them in inventory to be used where they are needed. The hint button was great for getting one on the way to those areas. The parts that had to be found were sometimes rather fantastical and that was fun. There are ghosts and fairies and a missing locket...all good fun things. The evil gal is not horrid, in fact none of this was gruesome or grisly. The pace was the best thing...being able to keep going and not getting too bogged down hunting for some utterly black thing on another black thing in a dark shadowy corner, so nothing can be found...nothing like that at all. A really excellent game for an SE and at $2.99 today a bargain that can not be resisted.
There is just nothing new here. Puzzles are typical and easy. I would have loved it when I first found BF, now I will not buy it at $2.99 esp learning that the ending is missing. There are so many better games to play.
I wanted to like this game. Finally I decided I was just annoyed by it. Why? because there did not seem to be any way to get a hint if there was no use for the finder indicator. Too many things seemed too random as to whether to use a tool or just click and then there were things that were hidden but one was not told that they were hidden. I just got burned out on it with irritated annoyance. See if you like it. But I ain't buying.
There is no map, but I consider remembering where things are and how to get there to be a part of the challenge. There are a number of mini games, some of them repeat, like the connect the circuits that are not very difficult and are only partially amusing for that reason. There are a few games where one has to roll balls into their holes, and those are really fun for the challenge of figuring out the strategy to get them to work together, so the fact that they repeat I found great. The H object stuff is not typical as one has to find classes of things like 12 cylindrical objects and these were ok to encounter. There was an elevator that one had to find parts of buttons to get to the next floor and there were four floors. There was a mailroom with tubes to direct the mail down that was an interesting challenge. On one floor, there were puppet shows that one had to figure out the steps to the action in the correct order. Also one had to find the pieces for the show in one's meanderings. In order to get the place lit, one had to catch fireflies, which was too easy, but sometimes one could not see where to put them and that took some trying for success. The scene with the robot on the track was too dark so I had to go to the walkthrough to find out where that track went. There was nothing really horrifying and gruesome except the sad end for the villain. I will play the game again as it was fun and a good brain workout. The robot is rather stiff, but then what does one expect of a Victorian robot? For an SE, this game really satisfied. There was plenty of variety to the challenges and to the scenes one had to go to. The hint was helpful without being hand holding. I needed to use it since I did not play the game all the way through but did it in parts as my life permitted, and the hint would help me get back into knowing where I was in the game. I'd grade it A-
everything about this was stiff and predictable. I fell asleep a few times, just out of boredom. I do not recommend this game, but I know others might enjoy what I do not, so try it, but if you get bored, trust me, it does not get better. It just plods doing the same thing in different locales.
Since there are a lot of complaints about having to go hither and thither in games, this game is rather simple partly because one does not have to remember a lot since what one needs comes up fairly quickly and logically as one progresses. So this will make the foot weary happy.
Hidden Obj games are varied. finding things and then matching shadows and hidden things in those scenarios sometimes are simply a matter of moving the cursor to become a hand and the door or lid opens and the thing pops out, so those are quite easy. Some things have to be used to find other things, so there is a lot of variety but not much difficulty for the most part. I only had to use the hint once to find something that even when circled, I could not tell where it was, but the circle was small enough that a click revealed the thing and got me on my way.
I had to waste a lot of time with one puzzle that required putting parts of hats together. I knew where I wanted the pieces but I could not figure out the means of moving them; they seemed not to respond to any logic. If I had a choice to skip that game, I would have, and that is the most serious negative I had about the game was that particular nasty spot. I hope that there are not too many more like that further in.
The game takes one through a number of levels, and as one completes, green checks let one know that part is done. There seem to be a large number of levels, so I imagine the game will be long for those who like long games. However, the ease of solving things may enable those of you who are wizards at these, to get through with a speed that would have you call the game lacking.
I have only played the hour, the visual aspects of the game are good nothing too ugly. Those of you very sensitive to spiders, might not like the robots that have heads but have legs like spiders, but, well I can not imagine being that grossed out by these silly robot puppets. Look for yourselves.
This is a CE and I would consider buying in the SE for the fun and good visuals. I liked the easy variety. I would like to hear from those who are enchanted and buy the CE if it is important to have the bonus and what goodies extras the CE has that might make it worth getting.
I do recommend this game for beginner and intermediate, those who are wizards will have to decide if it is too easy. I am marking it down as a definite buy for SE and awaiting more reviews from those who complete the game.
Read so many flagging reviews, I had to have a say. Have only played the demo and am not sure whether worth the CE or wait for SE (that is what I hope someone who plays the whole CE will tell me in a review--whether the bonus part is worth the extra money) But the quality of this game is great. The pictures are clear and colorful and beautiful not depressing even though people and dogs are in trouble and need help. The hidden objs are just right as to difficulty and respond to a click anywhere in their body so one does not have to click in a special place to know one has the right object. yes there could be more bells and whistles (like morphing objects, which there are not) but the puzzles are a good challenge better than most I esp liked the picture where boxes exchanged parts with other boxes to make the pieces move to reconfigure the picture. Others have done this, but this one had an added dimension of difficulty that I liked Things in the Hidden object scenes that were hidden had some interesting twists and there were not too many of them but a decent amount. And I like the sparkles that let us know to go to the Hidden object hunt. What do so many of you object to about that? I agree I do not want sparkles to direct me in the game play, but the hidden object scenes are a break in the story line and so are not expected as part of the mystery of the game. So I hope someone who loves this game will tell me if the bonus part is worth the CE or if I should wait for the SE. I am buying it either way that I know.
I get really annoyed when I click on an object and it does not notice then go to a hint and lo and behold that was the right thing. This is not a technical issue, it has to do with some way the game is configured. There were no surprises in terms of games that were really interesting in the demo. The story line is good and there are some fun graphics but the game does not seem to have any special things that the CE must have so SE is the answer.
