The hidden obj games are clear and therefore somewhat easy, but don't let that fool you because there are plenty of interesting interactive things to do. I like when the things are not so crammed together, but then there is a flower scene requiring finding beetles that were a challenge even though the drawing was gem quality beautiful. The puzzles were not easy and I skipped some to get further into the game during the trial.
I did not buy yet so this review is based on an hour, but I will be buying it tomorrow to take advantage of the two fer on Monday.
The story is quite interesting as one has to enter a portal to find one's relative and the things to do are interesting though not necessarily unheard of before. There are more portals, so one has more different landscapes to work through.
Of course there is the thwarting threatening villain, but one proceeds with courage and persistence. I played on the easy mode, so my giving this less than an excellent rating might change were I to venture into the more difficult setting.
I am looking forward to playing the game without an eye to rushing through. Then I will be able to take the time with the more difficult puzzles. I liked the balance of hidden obj to puzzle to look around for stuff to keep figuring out the next step.
I also liked the magical egg that gave a continuing increase in powers as one progressed through the game.
I did not miss the morphing objects or the things one is finding in some of the other games because I thought this games Hidden object scenes were very interesting in the interactions that were required. O no I just checked and there is no walkthrough; I do not buy without a walkthrough. Darn!
But I just learned there is a CE I am going to check it out! Maybe I'll use my two credits on this one. So far it is very deserving.
short trial period allowed so this review is only based on that but the HObj scenes were very junkpile and there was no interaction making them both boring and tedious. The puzzles were skipped because I try to get into the game further during the trial...but then the trial was short, so I'll probably go back and play them ...they were somewhat interesting but the game had a dreariness that dragged me to the conclusion that I would not buy this game even at the two nine nine price. Kind of sad because it could have been so much more. I am tired of the missing gear that when found has to be fitted into the box with the other gears, and zero new about having to get a medallion or three off some various statues or get some dead person to open their hands. There is a pile of leaves and of course one has to find the rake...all pretty old hat...or am I just getting jaded? Well try it for yourself and let me know what you think.
You thought this would be just like any other investigation. But now you find yourself lost in a mysterious mansion brimming with strange creatures, comatose colleagues, and mysterious tentacles around every corner...
There were some intriguing elements to the game since the dream world floats on a white background. However, the cursor lolled about like a barge about to sink barely responding to my mouse. The game was either obvious or so odd that one had to ask for a hint often. I really wanted to like the game, was excited at first at its originality that turned banal with the lack of real puzzles or sense of what to do. I wanted to know more about the missing skull but in the end the frustration of dealing with the cursor and the lack of sense to the way the game ought to be approached made me stop playing and I will not be buying this game and consider the trial a waste of an hour.
Visually this is great and beautiful. Nothing really new here however, someone said the CE was worth it for extras and another said it was too boring even tho they had liked it at first. So since I am rather bored, I think I will pass on this. I might try the CE on a hard mode and see if that helps. I always play at first on easy mode to get as far as I can, In this case the game only lets you get so far. I might use this to get a free game, but I am not excited about it. I recommend you try it and see if you like it. really Tijuana for me (borderline)
I recommend this game!

Secret Trails: Frozen Heart Collector's Edition
Your surprise visit is ruined by a blizzard. Who caused it, and what does he want with your little sister?
there is a nice balance of puzzles and hidden obj scenes. Things are fairly obvious as far as finding what there is next to do, There is some extra in finding a butterfly in various scenes, but I would not miss that if that were the difference with the SE vs the CE. I'd like to hear from those who buy this CE as to whether there are more special aspects. Not having encountered any as far as I got, I am not impressed enough, but I did like it. The story of a weather master crazed by his power and abducting my sister is not remarkable.
but what I want to know is whether the slow motion of the game is due to my computer or the game? I only played the demo, but there were some strange disconnects, like how is it that suddenly someone gets the keys to the car when I was driving it. Huh? Then there is the usual need to feed an animal to get what is in its mouth zero new there the hidden obj scenes were interactive, but beware trying to click where one is wrong it takes a while to forgive I have no idea how I got the owl's head to open. I like puzzles to have a rational solution that I figure out. Putting together an Egyptian mask was very obvious. The parts were hardly hidden at all. Most of the action did not seem to have any logic, so there was a random quality to the play that annoys me. Furthermore there were things that I thought to do, that did not happen until I started to do something else, then the game told me to do what I had thought to do but was unavailable to do. I do not mind hints when I am going off course, but why do I need a hint when I tried to take a step that was logical and not allowed by the game play? I'd like to hear from some who play the whole game if the action comes together and whether the promised bonuses are worth the CE I'll give it a yes on recommend quite marginally. Will be interested to see how others like it. Everyone has their own take and this one is worth trying.
I really liked the way things changed as success was achieved. I like things pretty and bright and visually lush. There was a lot of hand holding and not a lot of challenge, but there were some games I skipped to get on in the hour allotted as far as I could. I am looking forward to the SE so as to play these. I liked the landscapes and the intricacy of the world. I liked the floating blocks and the sense of dream in the game. As a CE I give it a three but as a SE I'd give it a four or maybe a four and a half. The HObj games were not at all challenging and did not have any activity within them. I do not pay a lot of attention to the story during the trial as I am chomping at the bit to play the game. I think the story, while a little juvenile coming from a teddy bear what would we expect?, is probably better than I gave it credit as being. It is on my list of buy once the SE comes out.
Really my title says it all about this game. There were some interesting aspects of the HObj interludes where one had to find pieces that matched a sillouhette but each piece found led to the next one. That was a bit different. Most of the game was fairly obvious I do wish I could have played the minigames outside of the main game because I accidentally hit a skip button...so am fated to have to do the whole game through just to get back to that minigame.
