(Based on demo trial) Nightmares from the Deep certainly made my timbers shiver and gave me the Davies. A good CE to add to anyone's collection with alot going on and so much to do. After a long anticipated wait, this Pirate game has arrived and yes it did impress me with its great visual animations, crisp graphics and very good V/O and sound effects. As for the story, nothing really outstanding but regardless of the plot, enjoyable gaming expereince for all those who love HOG adventure games. As 'Mom' (which by the way may just put off some male gamers out there), my daughter has been kidnapped by a ruthless 'dead' pirate who has taken her to his hideout on Skull Island. As I am off to save her, I need to solve many puzzles, collect inventory items from many HOG scenes and naturally play the odd mini-games along the way. In actuality, the gameplay is your basic HOG Adventure with interactive HOS with alot of backtracking along the way. There is nothing really exceptional but I did enjoy the adventure and am anxious to see how it will progress. Option menu offers you two modes of game play, custom cursor and wide screen options. Game features include a journal with a list of objectives, a map which if played in casual mode, will give you information as to what needs to be done and ofcourse a SG to help you out. HOG scenes are interactive, somewhat crowded but not too difficult, As a bonus, you have a choice to play Mahjong tiles rather than search for items. My only complaint was that I found the Mahjong games too easy to play. Although the game offers you alot of things to do, one thing I found lacking was the level of challenge that you would see in games like Dİre Grove or the Seventh Skull. I found the game rather easy to play and did not have to consult the SG during the entire demo trial. There are moments that made me jump with things popping up and I have to admit, some of the effects were very well done. I just wished that the game had continuity because I found that sometimes the story seemed to lag in context. Overall the artwork and design are impressive and there is generally alot of fun to be had. I recommend this game and personally look forward to playing it later on tonight whereby I will turn off the lights and use my headphones to add to some mood to the game. So for those who love a good pirate adventure and a spooky ghost story, this game will defintely make you want to set sail on the high seas today.
I recommend this game!

I probably would have enjoyed playing this game many moons ago when I first discovered there was something called Hidden Object games. Back then these games were the only ones available and HOGs were just getting popular. Then they started becoming interactive and this is basically what we have before us. A very 'old-looking' basic HOG with interaction involved. Sorry but I will definitely pass on this. Not only is it dated, old looking and clucnky, I had some minor problems which tells me that there are still some 'bugs' that need to be worked out. Game options include one game mode and custom cursor. There are no V/O and alot of dialogue to read. Graphics are crude and lifeless. HOG scenes are not very difficlt however some items are too small to detect. You are equipped with a journal, a map that at times can be used to get from one place to another. There are puzzles to solve, a varity of mini-games which were not challenging. The storyline is a murder mystery that takes place onboard the Titatic and you are assisting a famous Swedish detective. Actually you are being 'bossed' around to do the heavy labor by lifting things, finding things and cleaning up. Since we all know the fate of the Titanic, solving the mystery seems pointless. I really don't know how the story will go and to be frank, I really dont care. Possibly fans of basic HOG games may enjoy the gameplay but I personally will just let this game aqgo down with the ship. RIP.
I don't recommend this game.

This year on Mother's day, instead of recieving flowers, candies, hugs and kisses; we get murder and meyham while we set out to rescue a young girl from the clutches of a very creepy old dude and solve an old gruesome murder mystery that surrounds the very sinister looking Penumbra Motel. (Why I am not put off by this fact causes me some discomfort). I am a big fan of the developers and am slightly surpirsed at the direction that they took when creating 'Dark Alleys'. Unfortunately, to my dismay, this game is definitely not up to their usual high standard of games and the more I played, the more I felt let down. My major complaint was that there was absolutly nothing challenging about this game and I found it way too easy to play. Although I am basing my review on the demo, I doubt that things will change. It appears that the developers created an Adventure IHOG, only without the HOG scenes and yet the game mechanics are your usual run of the mill IHOG. (I hope that made sense). Unlike their previous games, such as the AZADA series, the challenge and fun factor that I eagerly anticipated and looked forward to just wasn't present here. Unfortuantely 'Dark Alleys' just did not thrill me nor did it offer me the challenge that I expect to find in an Adventure game. On the other hand, it would be remiss of me not to priase them for the artwork and the graphics and animation which I felt were very well done. Although they are grainy and rather gloomy, (unlike the graphics that I am accustomed to), they did create an atmosphere that suited the storyline and I especially liked the use of real actors which added some realism to the game. Game features include the journal, objectives, a SG that keeps your place and a film projector which you use to view cut scenes. There are three modes of game play and widescreen option. Game mechnics are the same that you see in any IHOG Adventure game: solve puzzles, collect objects for your inventory and play mini-games; unfortunately all of which were too easy to do which I found rather dissapointing. I honestly think that this game is slightly over-rated and should not have been issued as a CE. Sadly I think that the developers have missed the mark in their efforts to create an Adventure game that would appeal to hard-core palyers like myself. Had they offered some challenging features such as morphing objects, awards, achievments and complex mini-games, I probably would have enjoyed my gaming experience more but alas, despite the "look" and "feel"of the game, I got bored very quickly. It appears that 'Dark Alleys' offers you a slightly 'Penumbra' experience. I do however think that newcomers to this genre will enjoy this game and therefore I will recommend it. After all it is Mother's Day, and what better way to celebrate it than to spend it with your everyday psysho killers, demons and ghosts.
I recommend this game!

I actually wrote a review on the CE of this game and said that the ship would sail without me. I found that the game mechanics did not warrent a CE price and decided to wait for the SE version. Finally it has arrived and I have already pressed the "buy" button. The story takes you off to the high seas where your mission is to save your friend from the nasty looking Pirate Captain of the Flying Dutchman. It looks like this scary Dude will not make it easy for as you have to solve many puzzles and mini-games along the way. You also get these very interest mini factoids regarding the Ship and lives of Pirates when you collect pearls hidden throughout the game. Make sure you bring along an estra pair of deck shoes as you will be back tracking alot, but you will have a journal that keeps you company and you will need those sturdy sea legs for this adventure.
Overall I really wanted to like this game, infact I did beta tested it sometime ago and hoped that more game features would have been added. Alas to my dismay, it pretty much is your run of the mill Adventure/HOG with nothing really special that would make it qualify as a CE. Now that it is out as a SE,I have already gone on board. I did like the graphics and artwork; they are well done but I have seen better. The sound effects are not up to par and I was rather dissapointed with voice-overs. The Captain sounded like he has been into the rum too much. There are three game modes as well as wide screen options and custom cursor. I did however like the cute little lobster that acts as your hint system. HOG scenes are crowded with junk and interactive with small items that have blended into the scenery making them difficult to find. What is seriously lacking in this game is any a level of challenge and gradually I did get a bit bored. I also found the game play very slow. Needless to say, I did enjoy the story and it is superior to many of the SE game that we do get so I guess the ship this time has sailed with me at the helm.
I recommend this game!

The Pied Piper has always been a favorite tale of mine and I was thrilled when this game came out. At first glance, the graphics are dark and relatively crisp although the cut scens are blurry. There is Voice-over in the beginning only. So the story goes, you are a famous detective and once again called into to stop the evil piper from ruining the town. There is a conspiracy to solve and your mission involves many puzzles, alot of back tracking, mini-games and also 20 morphing objects to find along the way. At first, the game mechanics are what we see in many CE games, nothing really special. Three modes of gameplay, a map and journal. The one thing that did annoy me was the journal continously popping up quite suddenly interrupting the game play. However I did enjoy the mini-games which were uniquely done. The HOG scenes are dark, not too crowded and interactive as well. SOme were tricky in that there are many interactive items involved and you need to find the right one. Once again the game does fall short of being a great game, the music is drab, not enough challenge and gameplay does involve the usual pick this up and use it somewhere else. I found that I could not really get into the story at the beginning, it really did not grab me. I would say that this is really an average CE (unfortunately CE games are not all of similar standards and differ greatly in their complexities and design) This paticular game really has nothing much to offer other than good graphics and design, lots of HOGs and puzzles that involve running around between various scenes. That journal will definitely be a fly in the ointment for many. I am pleased that there are at least morphing objects to collect but comared to some CE games that I own, this one rates low on the scale. Alas, being a fan of the legendary fable of the Pied Piper, I will dish out the extra pennies to complete my mission at hand. Happy Gaming to all.
I recommend this game!

I think I will start a Hari Fan club and demand that he come back to us in full form, not just make cameo appearances in a game. That being said, the game itself isn't too bad condsidering what I expected from a sequel. Had this been a stand alone game, I probably would have enjoyed it better. I bought the prequel and since then I have been plagued with visions of Hari in my head. To my utter dismay, tragically Hari is not the star of this game. Actually there is no star, just puzzles. Note to developers: Seriously? What were you thinking? I really expected the same format and quality of graphics, character, story and gameplay not to mention HARI. Alas this game has none of these features. Instead it is riddled puzzles and min games so for puzzle fans out there, this will be right up your alley. In the meantime, you will have to ignore the really bad graphics, out dated and blurry, low level of challenge and a really weak storyline which frankly my dear, ( you know the rest)There are three mode of gameplay and I believe that in order to unlock hardcore, you need to get 20 hints first. Game mechanics are basically HOGs where you find items to unlock puzzles. I personally enjoy puzzles and I have to be honest, some I actually liked but the level of challenge just wansn't there. There are voice overs and you have a journal, a compass and hints. In addition, there are match games along the way which I expect might just motivate some to spend their pennies on this. So where do I stand on this game? I will recommend this game based on the puzzles BUT if you are expecting the sequel to RIDDLE BOX, you will be very dissapointed. Sadly, I think this is the end for HARI and Dela, they will however continue to live on and prosper only in my dreams!
I recommend this game!

From what I read, this game comes from a new developer but it looks like an old game. An adventure HOG without the usual trimmings. Lets start with the story: Your sister is missing and you have discovered that she has gone to visist an abandoned boarding school on a supposedly deserted island where you both attended before a deadly palgue forced you to leave. SO far so familiar! Once you arrive, you find yourself not alone and a shadowy figure with a maniacal laughter is there to greet you. Now for the interesting part; you have a sidekick that is a robot called "boilerplate" that helps you lift and carry heavy objects and creeps you out by warning you what lies ahead. Seriously? Can we get anymore bizaare? I personally would have added a sense of humour to the robot just to make the game a bit more fun to play. I am dissapointed that there are no voice overs or interactive maps which tells me that there was limited funding to make this game. Also I found the puzzles and HOGs jsut too easy to do along with the two minigames I encountered during the trial run. There are inventory items that you do combine but overall, game mechanics were easy and more dissapointingly, no options for gameplay mode; so you get the sparkles and a hint system that will tell you where to go and what to do. However, I do applaud the developers for the opening scene especially the use of B/W photos. The graphics are well done but we have seen better. Sadly the letdown is the level of challenge offered making the fun factor for this game just OK. I suppose for beginners, 'Malice: Two Sisters' is ideal at getting your feet wet with an Adventure/HOG. Unfortunately, for hard-core players like myself, I expect that the story and how it ends will be the motivating factor to spending a credit on this game. I cannot "not recommend" this game because I myself will ultimately spend a club reward on this because I am interested to see how the story does progress and I just cannot ignore "boilerplate" who I hope gets more interesting down the road. Cheers to all and happy gaming.
I recommend this game!

The House with 1000 doors is back and this time you are trying to break a curse with the help of a spiritual guide. I actually boght the CE and enjoyed this game immensly. It offers you everything that make for a fun gaming experience; two gameplay modes, 8 chapters, voice-overs, and very crisp and sharp graphics. On your journey you have a journal and a map that offers you information as to where to go and YES it even takes you there so no need for the extra pair of running shoes. The HOG scenes are interactive and you have also 46 morphing objects to locate. I loved the art work and the story line does keep you interest. This is a game that I highly recommend for those who did not purchase the CE. A definite treat and am now waiting for the third installment!

Once again we find ourselves in a far off land (Thailand) and we need to save yet again our friend and the world from a Demon and his three nasty servants. As I have said before, originality is rare. Although the theme is familiar as are most of the game mechnics, the developers did manage to add some variety with HOS by including reverse HOG scenes where you have to place items back into their place. Also, each scene has two time lines where they change from past to present promted by turning on or off the lights. Option menu offers three modes of game play and game mechnics include a journal and a SG that keeps your place. The graphics and animations are good but tend to be dark and grainy. There are voice-overs and the music suits the overall atmosphere. I did play the entire demo without having to ask for a hint or check the SG, making it a standard adventure Hog without any real challenge The puzzles and mini-games are relatively easy with slight variation in their composition. Once again the story does not interest me, it seems to get lost with all the puzzles and back-tracking that you do, however I will recommend it to those who enjoy this genre . I have played better games and I do anticipate that most will wait for the SE version on this one. I am not sure of the length as only three chapters are shown in the SG, I will take it on faith that the game will be worth the extra pennies. I wish I was more excited but like I said, nothing really new here!

Finally they are back! Austin and his friends and let's not forget the pet dog who you get to name. This time Austine, our friendly Butler needs your help to re-do the inside of the mansion before his guests arrives. There are many rooms to go over and take part in a rummage sale. The Graphics and annimations are top-notch. You have great sound effects, lots of HOG scenes and two modes to play; timed or relax. The object is to make money off the sales and buy furnitures and objcts. If you are a fan of HOGs and love the some quirkiness and amusment in your life, this game is a must. There are hints to collect along the way, mini games to play and puzzels to solve. There is so much going on, I especially love clicking on Austin or hşs dog to make them do things around the house. This game is pure delight and joy. Something to paly with the kids and in my case, just to put a smile on my face. Kudos to the developers for bringing them back to us.
