I really try to be open-minded about HOGs and even if I have outgrown them, there are still classic HOGs that I do enjoy playing from time to time. This however is one HOG that I deleted after 40 minutes of gameplay. Storyline is a simple who-done-it murder mystery and is set inside the theater. There are two modes of play and I dicovered that there are sparkles in the advance mode as well. There are no voice-overs so you spend your time reading alot of dialogues that are printed with way too small fonts. Too much dialogue with very small printed text means squinting alot. Sorry but my eyesight is not what it use to be. Graphics are sharp but dark and there is no annimation. I really dislked the music especially the SFX during HOS; it reminded me of the music during Pyscho's famous shower scene which got on my nerves after a while. This game is strictly a HOG, one HO scene after another with the random puzzle thrown in. HO scenes are dark with no interaction and objects are small but nevertheless easy to find because of the graphics. The Hint system works well and when used, the screen goes black and white except for the object that glows brightly. Puzzles vary alot in style and all of them are the usual run of the mill games that were very easy to play. I really could not get into the story as there was too much to read and I got seriously bored and started to skip dialogues. All very tedious with no fun factor at all. Sorry but this is one Mystery that will remain unsolved for me.
I don't recommend this game.

There was this famous town infested with Rats controlled by the evil Pied Piper.
I actually bought the CE and wrote in my original review that The Pied Piper was a bit of a dissapointment however having completed the game, I think many will be thrilled that it is out as a SE. If rats do not bother you, then you will definitely enjoy this classic fairy tale. At first glance the graphics are dark but relatively crisp although the cut scenes do tend to be blurry. I did like the artwork and there are voice-overs as well. As the story goes, you play the famous detective who is called upon to stop the evil piper from ruining a town. Naturally nothing is what it seems and there is a conspiracy to solve. Your mission will entail alot of backtracking so be prepared to use those extra running shoes. There are routine HOS, inventory items to collect and as an extra treat, 20 morphing objects to find along the way. Game features include three modes of gameplay, a map and journal. The one thing that really irritated me was the journal constantly popping up onto the screen. It unfortunately interrupts your game play and after a while becomes a real annoyance. However I did enjoy the mini-games which were uniquely and fun to play. The HO scenes were dark, not too crowded and interactive as well. Actually HO scenes did offer some challenging moments as some were tricky. Unfortunately the game does fall short of being a great game: the music is drab, alot of aimlessly running around and not enough challenge. There were so many actions involved that I found myself losing sight of the story which is a little weak. However fanes of the HOPA genre will definitely enjoy the good graphics and design, lots of HOGs and puzzles. As I said, that journal will definitely be a fly in the ointment for many and of course lets not forget the many rats that you do encounter along the way. Although the Pied Piper's tune may be a little flat, overall this is a good game to have
I recommend this game!

Original ideas are rare to come by as proven by this game. Once again we have to rescue our victims, save a town and solve a mystery and deal with a puppetshow. Before I begin, I would like to comment on the subject matter of the story which I found to be a bit disturbing. Like many people who indulge in PC games, I too enjoy mystery, murder and mayham when the supernatural is involved. However when horror fiction involves little children being kidnapped by a creepy man in a playground, it really draws too much on real life especially when the vicitm's name is Amber. I just think developers should be more sensitive to topics involving missing children and creepy men in games. Moving along, the game offers two play modes and there are voice overs used as well. Story revolves around the mysterious disapearance of children, a puppet show and what I imagine an act of revenge on a town. Graphic and visuals were not as sharp and crisp as many other games I have played but I did like the artwork very much. Color was added to various scenes which is rare in dark games and overall the game had a very good look to it. There are voice overs that were very good and I especially enjoyed the musical track which was well composed and added an overall atmosphere to the gaming experience. Rites of Passage is a standard HOPA with really nothing special to offer other than a familiar storyline, inventory items to pick up and minigames to play. In other words, same ole same ole.... The HO scenes are junk-piled and are interactive. HOS graphics are not sharp but items were not too difficult to find. You have a journal that also outlines your objectives and you also need to collect 55 masks throught the game. Unfortunately there is no map and alot of backtracking is required. I thought the minigames were very well designed and corresponded to the story. They were colorful and imaginative but unfortunately were very easy to do. I wish that a little more challenge was put into this game. I really enjoyed the overall look and feel but I did find it easy to play. I expect that many Hard-core players who try the demo will not be overly enthusiastic about spending the extra pennies on the CE version especially when the bonus section is locked and the SG only shows three chapters. Personally I dont like to spend money when I dont know what the extras include. I will therefore save my pennies for a more interesting game and wait for the SE version to come out. However fans of Adventure HOGs will most likely enjoy this rather stereo type game that does hold some merit when it comes to visuals and actual gameplay. I on the other hand will go and replay the original Puppet Show series which I found to be much more entertaining.
I recommend this game!

Well it seems so far we are having a bad week in selection of games. I love M3 games and usually indulge in them when I feel like zoning out or being challenged. This game unfortunately made me feel comatose by the end of the trial. Visually the graphics were good, crisp and sharp but seriously lacking imagination, style or any sort of animation to speak of. Personally I found the visuals too simple and boring. There are voice-overs for our two characters and the music was not bad but I found it misleading and out of context ; the music suggested adventure and excitment which the game seriously lacked. Game options also include language which I haven't seen in a while. There are several modes of game play and several types of challenges which include time, relaxed, arcade and puzzles. The storyline is too vague and from what I can tell, there is a mystery to solve which involves our heroine unlocking several doors in order to reach a gate. The entire game takes place in a corridor and each door contains a variety of M3 boards to play. This probably was the most dissapointing feature; the M3 boards were always the same in design and context. There were several styles of M3 games to play but the boards remained the same which really was a let down. There were no power-ups, no real levels of gameplay and no challenge, however there were trophies to gain. At the end of the hour, I was still clueless as to what the mystery was nor did I care to find out. Personally I think 'Experiment' has nothing to offer in way of fun but may be interesting for beginners who wish to experiment with different styles of Match3. Other than that, the game was monotonous, uninspiring and I hink I will go back to sleep now and dream of better games to come forth.
I don't recommend this game.

I cannot believe that games like this are still being made. I I will keep this review brief and just say absolutely, positively NO! I can't believe that even die-hard HOG fans would like this game and I do apologise to fans of Coronation Street, hope no one is offended by my review but seriously, HOGs like this should be put out of circulation. Sorry but I am at loss for words and have deleted after 5 minutes of gameplay.

I am beginning to suspect that there is this vault at BFG where they keep very old HO games that have never seen the light of day and on occasion, when there is nothing new to bring out, they dip into this vault, dust off the cobwebs and try to peddle it off rather than sending it to the recycle bin. I suppose strictly HOG games are still in demand, and I’m sure there are many incurable HOG junkies out there who still long for those junk piled scenes and endless numbers of objects to find. Well look no further, if you do have the yearning, this may just appease your appetite. However, in my opinion, I think this particular HOG is seriously a waste of time and space. Time Chronicles deals with time and once you get past the enormously confusing tutorials, you find yourself on a mission to restore the very timeless painting of Mona Lisa. I really recommend that you try the demo just to be able to fully appreciate just how difficult it must have been to have written up the tutorial and story description: Find a Time Chameleon by using a Time zapper to collect Time Traces that will open up a Time portal to travel to a certain Time Frame! Seriously, just how many times can the word ‘Time’ be used in one sentence! I won’t waste much time on graphics which are just bad and outdated. There are no voice-overs, no journal but you do have a map (actually two maps, one present and one past), did I forget to mention that you also time travel? There are two play modes which are Normal and Casual. Huh? Aren’t they the same? Anyhow, moving along, we then come to the actual game play which is strictly HOG and to make matters worst, your HOS are TIMED. Bet that brings back fond memories eh? I suppose there may be some players who yearn for the frustration of finding minuscule objects against a clock? Trust me when I tell you that glasses will be required. And there you have it, a game filled with lots and lots and again lots of HO scenes that are junk-piled with teeny objects and a story that I still have yet to understand. The worst part of the game for me was knowing that you have to play each HO scenes at different time frames in order to collect all the required number of objects in order to move on to the next location. But you have to hand it to the developers; they were clever enough to add achievements by way of earning gold stars in order to make this game remotely interesting. In my opinion, the highlight of the entire game was the tutorial which made me seriously laugh out loud. Other than that, I think I will spend my time elsewhere today.
I don't recommend this game.

I actually bought the CE edition for this game and wrote a review which was entitled "Not for the Faint Hearted" After having completed it, this game now ranks high amongst my favorites . One of my guilty pleasures besides the odd cigerette and chocolaits, are dark stories that have supernatural themes to them. This game is not for everyone, storyline deals with demonic possesion of a child; but I am sure there are those who will not only enjoy this genre but also appreciate the game mechanics that are involved here. The graphics are not outstanding, but don't be misled by the opening scene. As you dwell deeper into the game, visuals and sounds bring on a chilling effect. Considering that the entire game deals with the black art, dont expect too much light and bright colors. If you are not a great fan of horror fiction, then I do not recommend you play it alone in the dark with headphones on like I did. I actually loved the art work and special effects, all beautifully composed to create atmosphere, especially the constant whispers in the background. The voice-overs were very well done as was the music. Game features include a journal and a unique hint system that I really liked. Your character does speak to you and directs you throughout the game, at times, she does too much talking and some may find this feature annoying. There are two gameplay modes and game mechanics involve HOS, puzzles and mini-games. HO scenes are junk-piled and at times, blurry graphics made some objects difficult to find. The game wasn't very challenging or difficult to play, mostly finding and collecting inventory items and using them. There is no map but as I said, a very unique hint system. I give this game top marks because of the artwork and the fun factor. However, be warned, Theatre of the Absurd is not for the faint hearted.
I recommend this game!

Once again my 'friend' Peter is lost and it is up to me to find him and defeat the evil nasties who took him. Just like in Mexico City, I have to help victoms who ave turned into Stone, find peter and banish the baddies.
I actually bought the CE version and although there were some elements that I did enjoy, I wasn't floored by the entire gameplay. The graphics and artwork are well done but unfortunately a bit blurry and grainy #especially cutscenes# compared to some of the better games we have played. There are three modes of gameplay and I did enjoy Hardcore where you get no hints or sparkles. Even then gameplay was relatively easy and not as challenging as expected. Game features include a journal that keeps your place and voice-over with music that I personally found obtrusive. Game mechanics is standard play: collect inventory items, play HOS and solve mini-games. The only twist to the game which I actually liked is that you get to interact between two worlds #past and present# with the help of a light switch. The HOS varied, some were straightforward interactive, some were reverse HO where you place items back into their proper place. I personally like those. Puzzles varied in difficulty, some were easy as pie, some were fun and a few were challenging. There is no map so be prepared for a lot of back-tracking. I would rate this game as being good, not great as I did begin to lose interest in the story and just went through the motions. However I do recommend this game if you like adventures, far away lands and HOs. It is well worth the price, especially as a SE edition. I enjoyed the puzzles and the morphing scenes and hope that the developers will offer a third installement with more challenging features. I look forward to it!
I recommend this game!

One of the best visuals I have seen in a long time. Hats off to the developers for the opening scene. They went all out by using real film and actors which really is the most outstanding thing about this game. I loved the cut scenes, sharp graphics, artwork, visuals and sound effects. All superbly done. Also I have to praise the storyline, being a fan of one of the great conpiracies that involve the mystery of the Philospher Stone, I was totally captivated. However that is all the high marks that the game will get from me. When it comes to the rest, I found nothing really outstanding about Dark Heritage. It is your basic Adventure/HOG with game features that include two play modes. Game mechanics are supported with only a journal and a hint system that does refill quickly. There is no map, no collectables (other than a few scrolls, which are too easy to find), and no achievement which I think would have made this game much more interesting and challenging to play. You have your run of the mill tasks, collecting inventory items, solving puzzles and playing the odd mini-games. HO scenes are slightly interactive with easy to find items. As there is no map, you have your journal/diary to help you and there is alot of back-tracking involved. As I said, really very basic gameplay which was a bit of a letdown for me. With all the work that was put into the visuals, I had high expectations but instead, found myself getting a bit bored by the end of the demo. I just found the gameplay too predictable. However, I anticipate that this game will be an instant hit for many and I too am looking forward to continuing on with the journey and finding the Philospher's Stone.
I recommend this game!

If you are a HOG fan or just a beginner to the HO genre, you may just enjoy this very simple HOG game that has minimal interaction and very simplified mini-games. I think they must have dug this one out from the archives or the land of forgotten games. The plot is a straight mystery/detective story which is so vague, I really could not tell you what the acutal mystery is. Surprisingly the graphics are sharp and colors are vibrant, like still photographs, but the entire look of the game is very outdated. There is only one gamemode of play and yes you have sparkles. Game mechanics include a map that you use to jump from one scene to another. The map merely points out the scenes and when you are done, you jump to the next location. However, the developers have not added any voice-overs or a journal, therefore there are no indicators as to when you have completed a scene or not. The one thing that is bizzaar is that you take photos of clues that you collect, but where do these photos go? There seems to be no album or diary, so I guess the mystery is why do I take these photos? Gameplay involves mostly HO scenes where objects are mostly easy to find. The only difference is instead of getting a list of items, you get drawings of them. I found this very childish indeed. There is very little interaction with items that you have and mini-games are just too ridiculous to mention. As I have only played the demo, I really cannot tell you how the game progresses and I really am not interested to find out. I have outgrown these types of game years ago. The entire game seems to me to be very amateurish and I am amazed that they are still making these types of games today. I suppose if you are new to HO games and/or have nothing better to do today, you may just find the HO scenes worth a credit. I personally will pass and spend the day with a good book. Cheers
I don't recommend this game.
