The graphics are extremely clean & bright; a little too colourful for my taste but ok. The music is average & I think this game would have been better if it had had voiceovers in addition to the subtitling.
There are two modes of play, easy & hard; the hint button is really useful – you don’t get the usual ‘nothing left to do here’ instead you get a helpful tip on what to do next.
The story is nothing to write home about (although I do like spy fiction when well done) but I do like the gameplay; you have to find objects to place in specific areas & you also have to figure out how to get an item working. It gives my brain a little work out without being too hard. There is also interaction with items in the hidden object scenes which were fun & a magnifier if you find things too small to see.
The mini puzzles are very easy – it is a shame that these could not have been a little more difficult.

This is a breathtakingly beautiful game from BoomZap; when you first arrive at the house you have just bought the garden is stunningly pretty but that soon turns to a nightmare world. The daughter of the former owners has been pulled into this world by an eyeless entity called the Shade, it is definitely a creature of your worst dreams. An amulet you find allows you to see both the good & evil of this place & as ever, it gives the BoomZap artists a wonderful arena to showcase their work, each chapter has a different mood in its visuals.
Your job is to prevent the Shade from blighting the world with eternal winter. This is a fairy-tale game that pulls you in effortlessly, there are a lot of puzzles to solve before you even get to your first hidden object scene. They are varied & most are not too difficult to solve with a little thought & logic. The H0 scenes range from ‘collect 20 flowers’ to the usual word lists to finding pieces to put together to matching pairs.
There are three modes of play; casual with a 90 second hint recharge & a little ‘tick’ that if you click tells you what task to complete. Expert with a 2 minute hint & Hardcore, no hint, no skip button & no help whatsoever for the brave of heart.
You get a journal which has a task list, the general story as you go along & a list of the cast of characters as you meet them. There are no voiceovers except in the cutscenes & the music is lovely; it changes for each chapter of the game. In Chapter 2 you will find an interactive map to make it easier to transverse the scenes.
There are 16 achievement awards & you have 60 fairies to collect along the way.
Boomzap really do excel at these fairy tale games & their graphics & artwork get more stunning with each game they produce.
The only reason I did not go for 5 stars is that I suspect that experienced gamers may find this too easy.

This is a really fun, cute game; you have to save an orphanage from purchase by a wicked fishy.
The graphics are crisp & pretty enough; there is the option to have 4:3 screen or the game will play widescreen. You can also de-select the custom cursor, the in game one is a lovely little shell with a point & worked fine for me.
As a room opens you have a hidden object scene within which you can find things to sell & gems which are scattered throughout, the more gems you find the more rooms are opened up. You also have to find a very pretty little fish in some scenes for extra points, as you earn points you can upgrade items around the orphanage, there are a choice of 3 styles for each upgrade.
There are also quests to find certain items for different fishies who pop along to see you; the objects will come up within a scene & once you have found all you can tick the quest as complete & earn points. By the way if you are short a few gems to open a room you can always buy some more.
There are 47 trophies to collect such as finding a certain number of objects in 30 seconds, opening a room from within a H0 scene, etc. & there are 20 rooms to explore.
The mini-games after each level are very easy & there are a very few (not easy to see) sparkles.
Although on first impression this game seems really simple there is a lot going on & the objects are not always easy to find.

You need to find 8 talismans & bring them together in this basic hidden object game. The graphics are clear & bright & the artwork is reminiscent of impressionist painters such as Edvard Munch (The Scream); rounded & sort of melting. It is unusual & very different to the photo-real artwork one sees in some games, I enjoyed it very much.
The scenes filled my widescreen monitor & I really liked the custom cursor; there are limited options to change the cursor & the screen size. There is piano music in the background which was sort of tinkling & unassuming; loved the background noises; voices, footsteps – all pretty creepy.
The hidden object scenes are nicely designed & some of the items are very hard to find as they are well blended or, due to the artwork style, don’t quite look like you expect. There is an over-clicking penalty & the cursor does the loop de loop across the screen.
The hint recharge is very slow at around 2 minutes, however when you try to go to an area you do get a warning ‘nothing to do right now’ which I like in a game; I played on the hard mode & there were no sparkles.
You are given a book in which you collect schematics for the various puzzles, such as putting together fuses but I did find them rather obscure. I ended up figuring out the puzzles on my own as I really did not understand the drawings. BTW it is very easy to drop out of a puzzle scene at the bottom, if you click anywhere in the bottom inch or so you are back to the prior scene. This happened to me quite a lot & I got really annoyed during the butterfly puzzle.
It is rather a short game & the ending seemed to leave room for a sequel.
I recommend this game!

This is an odd game, almost as though two people took turns to write the programme. From Sulus Games it has their usual splendid graphics & artwork; the voiceovers are excellent but are only used for some characters & not others. The music is subtle & the ambient sounds lovely.
There are two modes of play, regular with a long 2 minute hint, sparkles & glints or expert with no sparkles but a 4 minute hint. You are given a case to hold the inventory & to access you click on it rather than having the items along the bottom of your screen, it was rather a clumsy device to use & did become annoying. In addition a flashlight which is used to locate particular objects that are needed.
There is a good mix of hidden object scenes & mini puzzles; in order to solve an H0 scene you have to find a green card before the list is revealed & many objects are interactive. Normally in order to ‘open’ the H0 scene you have to find an object elsewhere in the game such as a key & this adds interest. The mini puzzles are a mix of very easy to solve to those that took a lot of head scratching on my part to figure out what to do, in fact some I gave up on & had to skip as I could not for the life of me work out the solution.
I found the cursor a little ‘sticky’ which was frustrating at times but not enough to spoil my enjoyment of the game.

This is a game with an involved and excellent storyline from MagicIndie Softworks; in addition the artwork & voiceovers really are superbly done. At first I found the psychopath Oscar’s commentary a little annoying but it grew on me, sort of hypnotic in a way.
There are two modes of play, casual with sparkles, glints & a 35 second hint renewal & expert with no glints & 70 second hint. You do get a map but it is not interactive & the world of this game is huge so you will have to go back & forward a great deal. I confess I got lost on many occasions whilst making my way around.
You also get a journal which details the story as you play & you can also replay the dialogue if you wish.
The hidden object scenes are very good, some items are well hidden & there are also interactive objects. The mini puzzles really are splendid, lots of variety & some of them are fiendishly difficult, there is a skip button.
This is a game that should keep you involved for hours, just one small observation the story is only very loosely linked to that of Dorian Gray so don’t expect something similar.
The ending to the main game is very good but the bonus play does add an extra & interesting twist.

Well I tried; I managed to last a full hour & I almost fell asleep. The story has no joy or horror or romance; it is a sort of teen girl’s idea of love in Paris, except that you have to keep taking the most boring trips around subways to find your train. After half a dozen or so journeys going nowhere in particular & doing nothing in particular when I got there I really never wanted to see these trains again.
There are precious few hidden objects and even fewer mini-games; just endless travelling from one station to another to spend a minute or two looking at scenes of Paris & picking up a few hidden objects, some are lists of items & some are shadow pictures. The scenes are not even really good drawings, these would not want to make me visit this beautiful city; better graphics would have helped.
You start off with a few hints, I really cannot remember how many but you have to find a star in a scene & click on it to gain more.
I finally met ‘the boy’ in the art studio & got to travel with him to a cemetery where his family are interred; the oldest in Paris apparently. It looked more like a concrete jungle that is met at the bottom of an underpass. The girl draws his picture & he is overwhelmed, presumably because as a vampire who cannot look in a mirror he can’t remember what he looks like by which point I really don’t care for her or him or the game; thus ended my demo.

The graphics are clear, bright & very reminiscent of the large file games; in fact this is more like an LFA with hidden objects thrown in. The voiceovers are well done & fit the characters, the music is lovely & the few background sounds are enjoyable. The only noises I did not like were the one made when a hidden object is found.
There are no misclick penalties and the hint button recharges in 20 seconds. My one observation to the developers would be.....can you make the hint a little less helpful in the main scenes. When you click it you are taken straight to where you should be to pick up an object, go through a door, etc. I would prefer something a little more subtle; perhaps a picture of where I need to go next rather than actually taking me there.
There are interactive items within the hidden object scenes as well as in the main game screens & some items are hidden in a clever way. Check everything as you never know where you will find something you need.
The mini games are not too hard; you just have to put a little thought into them.
There is a journal containing a map that shows areas with open or completed tasks & any important notes are kept here along with a list of tasks still in progress. Brilliant gameplay & lots of fun.

House of 1000 doors is the usual theme, an author receives an invitation to a séance & she finds a house that is an entrance to a realm of ghosts. She has to restore her grandmother’s good name & save a bunch of ghosts who have been trapped.
There are a lot of areas to explore as each ghostly story opens up a new realm to play in; there is an interactive map which makes life easier. The hidden object scenes are well drawn & it is not too hard to find the items, some of which are interactive.
The graphics are excellent & the artwork beautiful, the developer of this game never disappoints in this area. The music is melodic & unobtrusive & there are some excellent voiceovers with clickable dialogue.
Joy, there are 35 morphing objects to find & also 27 miniature portraits; I love this type of addition.
I found the gameplay flowed well & there were some very enjoyable mini games which were not too hard to solve, I would have liked to have had more of these.
The bonus chapter was an add on; it was not necessary to play it in order to get a satisfying ending to the game, it only took me 50 minutes to play so was glad that I had purchased the collector’s edition in a sale.
I recommend this game!

The graphics on this offering from Sulus Games are superb & the artwork very beautiful; it is a little dark in places but that is no bar to my enjoyment. The music is an excellent choice and the background noises are splendid.
The H0 scenes are nicely laid out & items can be found with a little perseverance; there is a misclick penalty, your cursor disappears in a puff of smoke but reappears almost immediately. Not all the H0 had lists of items to find, some were silhouettes so there is variety.
You get a journal which holds useful facts, gives an open task list & has a map, unfortunately the map is not interactive as it only shows where you are & what areas are open so you will need to make your way around 'on foot'. Do remember to read the journal as it can give some useful ideas on what to do next.
There were a lot of areas to explore but not a lot to do in each so the game did seem a little short. The hint button recharges in 1 minute & is very useful as if you get stuck it gives a picture of the area you should visit.
There are 56 crystals to collect throughout the game which adds interest when going to a scene as they can appear anywhere #one fell out of the sky#
I did find the custom cursor a little 'sticky' which became tiresome in places, had to click a few times to pick up some items.
