This game is amazing! It's one of those games that I compare all others to. The depth of this game is superb, & you find yourself immersed in a house that just shows up out of nowhere. There are a number of characters to meet & help. The mini-games are not incredibly long or difficult, but they do manage to make you think a bit. A word of warning: There's a great deal of back & forth in this game. You go to several different rooms on several different floors quite a bit, to the point it gets tedious. But if that's my only gripe, it's not worth worrying about. The hint & skip re-charge at a fairly quick pace, so no worries there. There are also "morph' objects to collect along the way, so keep an eye out for them. This is one of my favorite games. I've played it so much that I have it memorized, so I may have to put it on the back burner for awhile. But the next game in the series is just as much of an adventure #maybe more# than this one! So enjoy! I highly recommend this game to everyone, beginners to advanced.

I love this game! All of the Midnight Mystery games are excellent (except the Edgar Allan Poe mystery). Everything about this game is well done. The graphics are amazing. I couldn't believe how lifelike they were. There are no voice overs, but I liked that. I wouldn't want anyone pretending to sound like Mark Twain. The story line has several twists & turns to it, so it keeps you guessing. In the end. it's all tied together. I also enjoyed the collectables in the game. Each scene has a clover to collect. If you collect enough of them, it will open a bonus scene to play after you've completed the game. It's obvious that this game could have been much longer, but for whatever reason, the developers chose to shorten it. You see that in the bonus game with a scene on a raft that has no place in the game at all. You can also collect Ravens that allow you more hints. There again, if you find a clover in a scene, there's also a bird to find. I would definitely recommend this game. Any in this series is worth having.
I recommend this game!

I'm a bit stymied at the other comments about this game. I found this to be a great follow-up to the first Crystal Portal game. My only complaint is that is was way too short. I love the idea behind these games, where in order to move forward, you must find several items to find - well, several items! The story line in this game was a bit weaker than the first game, but still enjoyable. Ok, Igor was a bit much, but hey, all these games have some kind of character that shouldn't be there. Be warned: The hint & skip in this game is VERY slow. You could be through two more scenes before it is ready to go again. So be judicious in your use of it. I would definitely recommend this game. I loved it! I wish they would come out with a third game in this series.
I recommend this game!

I've had this game for several years, & it's become a nice part of my collection. There are three Magic Encyclopedia games; this is not my favorite from the series. Again, this is a FROG (fragmented Hidden Object Game). There are some fragments that can be very hard to see. The graphics are good - not overwhelmingly so, but good. The mini-games are quite simple. The hint & skip recharged at a fairly good pace, though I didn't need either one very much. There are no voice overs, & the music from these can get tedious. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone starting out. It's a good beginners game, & it helps you in other games you will play to see items that may just look like another part of the scenery. So have fun with this one. It's a great way to break into our little HOS club.
I recommend this game!

Wow! I wasn't expecting the level of challenge this game gave me! I'm glad I had my tablet standing by so I could go through the walkthrough step by step (that's a first & only time for me!). This game is for the serious, intent & logical player. There is no hint system in this game, nor is there any sort of skip system. You are completely on your own with this one. So if you don't have a lot of experience with adventure games, you'd be better of by playing several others before trying to tackle this one. This one really makes you work, therefore it can take a long time to get through. I have no idea how long it took me, because I had to play it over several days. So yes, I loved this game, but as far as re-play value goes, I just don't know. It was such a taxing & arduous trial that I think I could only play this every couple of years. Hats off to the developers, but unless they take it down a notch or two, people will not buy these type of games because of the high level of difficulty. Certainly only for the "expert" gamers out there. As far as recommending it, I'd have to say NO, because of the difficulty level involved.
I don't recommend this game.

I'll start with what is good about this game: NOTHING!! The story line is completely ridiculous, the graphics are shabby at best, & the 3-D look makes you nauseous right off the bat! Ok, the vibrant colors in the game were nice, but other than that, I can't think of one thing I liked about this game! I'm serious when I said the 3-D would make you sick. With the graphics as poor as they are, the spinning around the room sends your senses into overdrive as you try to take it all in.
This is a Fragmented HOS for the most part, which is why I bought it. But nothing could prepare me for how poorly this game was made. I hope the developers have another day job, because this game should never have been released! SAVE YOUR MONEY, YOUR TIME & YOUR SANITY! Don't get near this game!
I don't recommend this game.

I bought this game because I was looking for a break from my HOS games. I'm glad I did, because this is pure fun! There are no time limits, no real scoring (one, two or three stars on each board). It was an easy way to relax while watching the football game. The design of this game is quite ingenious, & some of the boards I found were quite complicated. I was surprised that I made as many mistakes as I did, & needed a few hints along the way. I certainly wasn't expecting the level of challenge on some of these. I'm not sure about the re-play value of this game, but I expect if you only play it every few months it will keep a certain level of challenge for you. So I say, "High Five" on this game! Have a great, relaxing time with this one. It's definitely one worth having.
I recommend this game!

I wasn't expecting much from this game, but I found it to be a really fun game. The story line is a usual one, Father disappears, Daughter goes looking & finds Father. That's nothing new, but this story took quite a turn that I wasn't expecting.
There are 3 levels of challenge. I liked the fact that you can make the re-charge time the length you want it to be. I hate having to wait 10 minutes for it. The level of challenge is very good. There is an interactive map that tells you where you are, & what tasks you have to do in the current areas. That really helped, because there is a lot of jumping back and forth between scenes. There are also a collectibles in this SE (scarabs#. When you see the collectible, click on it first thing, you will not have a chance to go back & pick it up; so be on the lookout for them. I never found this game to be tedious or boring. I wanted to keep playing to see what was next!
Now here's my one gripe: The heroine in out story #the daughter) comes to this cursed island in a suit & heels! What?! That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen in one of these games - especially since she goes into a river, has to navigate through halls, weird doors, sand & lava. Wow... What were they thinking? So if that's my only gripe about this game, I'd say that this stands up as a really good & fun game. So ignore the fact that you're all dressed up, & enjoy this one.
I recommend this game!

I didn't realize that there would be as much match three as there is. Because of that, the games moves rather quickly. The HOS are nothing spectacular; the same as other HOS. The hint charges at a good pace.
There are no voice overs. You have to read the dialogue, & though it is fair, it detracted from the flow of the game.
My biggest gripe about this game is the music. The loupe isn't very long, & if you are taking too much time in an area, the music gets louder & more intense. Didn't like that aspect.
The graphics are just ok. They are not sharp & distinctive, & the colors throughout the game are muted, so there is not a lot of discernment between items to be found.
Overall, I can only say that the game is ok. Not much of a challenge, & disappointing graphics. As I said, more of a match 3 game. Pretty much all the mini-games are match 3. I don't think I like that. If I want Match 3, there are plenty out there that are better than this one. So in my view, it pretty much failed as an HOS game, pretty much failed as a match 3 game. It just wasn't well executed.
I don't recommend this game.

I enjoyed this game; took me about 3 1/2 hours to play it through. I wasn't expecting it to be a fantastic challenge, & it wasn't. But overall, it was entertaining. I was nervous right off the bat when it talked about hint recharge time. But it recharged in 30 seconds, so not so bad (granted, I didn't need it much. I just say that for those who do need it#. The mini-games were nothing new; nothing that would really give you a headache. The game has a really good flow to it. You do play some of the HOS 2 or 3 times.
NOW: What takes this out of the 'excellent' category is the graphics. Throughout the game they are quite blurry, & a couple of cut scenes were very pixelated #even on my gaming computer#. It didn't seem to interfere with the HOS, but they certainly didn't help. I would certainly recommend this game, but probably not for any advanced player. This one is just for a lazy afternoon, without a kidnapping, extra-terrestrial, psychopath on the loose, mental hospitals or blood & gore # counted 3 bodies, which you don't even have to look at#. So sit back, relax, & enjoy this one.
I recommend this game!
