Wow! I haven't written a review in a long time, but when I get fooled as bad as I did this time, I have to speak up! This game must have been a holdover from one made 20 years ago. It's very old style, With tons of wording, a cynical investigator, and a thinner plot line than I've seen in years! Even though I don't need a tutorial, this game just takes off in a direction that's very hard to follow. The investigator really doesn't want to be there. In fact, she tries to get out of her situation by "waking up"! Along with this is the fact that if you mis-click, the screen freezes up, and it takes 30 seconds to start again. In all my years with Big Fish, I've never seen such a disjointed, boring and frustrating HOP. I've played close to a thousand different games, and this one would be at the very bottom of my 'Play Again' list. Save your money. I wish I had! An ABSOLUTE no from this player.
I don't recommend this game.

I Loved this game! it wasn't too hard, wasn't too easy. It had just the right enough amount of challenge.
There is, however, a lot of jumping from room to room & it can be confusing. It's just easier to use the jump map to see where you need to go.
Another thing I loved about this game is that rather than find Hidden Object, it also gives you the option of playing Match 3.
The story line is a good one, although you do have to break out of jail for a murder you didn't commit, & there's no clearing of your name (hole in the plot). That is the only part of the story that was hard to accept; that & the fact that you're a reporter & you do all the work while the cops stand there & ask you to do more!
\
All in all, a great game. I played the Collector's Edition. In it, you can collect small cities (morphing objects) & coins. I failed miserably on the coins... The bonus chapter is a decent enough length, with as much challenge as the main story.
I enjoyed this one very much. I wish there were more like this one.
I recommend this game!

This is just not the game I was hoping for. Too much talk, not enough challenge, so easy to play I fell asleep.
I'm after HO/ adventure games. If this is what you're expecting, think again! Be advised, if you're looking for a game that your kids can play, this might be a game to consider. But there's too much conversation, too much jumping around a map, & not enough challenge.
I don't recommend this game.

Not a fan. Not long enough. I played the entire game in less than two hours. I wanted more out of this game! Especially considering the other Grim Tales in the series (which are wonderful). I feel like they really rushed this one. Not enough time spent on it, not enough imagination. It was a real let-down for me. When you spend $$ on a collectors edition, you expect more. But honestly, this didn't even meet the expectations for a standard edition. They stole this whole idea from the Puppet Masters series (of which I'm not a fan). If I could, I'd demand my money back.
I don't recommend this game.

I'm going against the grain here & I'm gonna say it for anyone to hear: I wasn't impressed with this game. The map is completely useless, the music nearly put me to sleep, & most of the characters didn't seem realistic to me. I've played HOP's for years now, & this one just didn't measure up to the standards I have for them. Yeah, big scary dog is chained up in an 'abandoned' building - just give him a few treats & he's your friend for life. That happens every day. And what happened to the 'partner' she was teaming with? After the first two minutes of the game, it's all about her.
Overall, I just found this game to be tedious & boring. I'm very disappointed because I expect a lot more - especially from a collectors edition.
So, like I say, I know I'm gonna get chewed up by all the gamers out there who've already given it five stars, but they're the ones I'm mad at because I followed their recommendations. This is money wasted in my opinion.
I don't recommend this game.

I'd probably been disappointed if I had paid full price for this game... This game has to do with evil lords, dark mists & of course, our hero. The outcome is obvious.
The graphics are good in this game, I can't say they were the best. You have the ability to choose between 4 types of game play, including customizing it to your own liking.
The HOP's were varied, most were list (after finding an object that will open the list for you). You also have the opportunity to play an alternate game, which is putting the triangles in the right place (you have to rotate some). I enjoy this in a game as it gives the player the ability to mix it up a bit if you grow tired of the HOP's. There were also a number of 'books' to read & then find the item on the page that's highlighted in the story. There were a few 'find the pieces around the room' as well. None of these posed any real challenge.
The mini-games were some of the easiest I've ever played. I think I only skipped one (I was eating lunch & didn't really care). Therefore, I'm not even going to discuss them here. Use a bit of logic & memory & you've solved it.
There's a jump-map, which isn't necessary. The game never goes beyond three screens at any given time. I noticed one reviewer who said she was bothered by all the 'loading' wait time. As I was playing, it didn't really bother me - until I got close to the end; then I saw what she meant. It did get tedious waiting for the next scene to load.
This is a basic game for those who may just be starting out in this genre. I suppose you could toughen it up by not using any hints or skips, but the game is so simplistic that I didn't even use them anyway. So I will recommend this game, but for you experts out there, DON'T.
Happy Gaming!

The Dark Romance series is not one of my favorites, but I decided to give this one a go anyway. This game tries to add a bit of history into the mix, but falls way short.
You can choose how you play, casual, moderate or no help at all; or you can customize your settings to your liking. It has a location/ jump map which comes in handy since you go back & forth quite a bit.
My biggest gripe about this game are the mini-games. Don't get me wrong, I usually like mini-games, but in this game some of them are very tedious, & instructions are somewhat vague in what you're supposed to be doing. The other thing that bugged me was after you skip the mini-game, It shows you the solution. After a couple of these, it got me mad because I felt that it was really slowing down the game. That's why I only gave it three stars in Fun Factor.
On the plus side, the graphics are clear & the voice-overs were done well. It also gives you the opportunity to play a Match-3 game instead of HOP's. I like that in a game because it gives you a chance to mix it up a bit. The HOP's varied; list, silhouette, & so on. Nothing we haven't seen before.
Overall, this is a good game. I can't say I loved it, but I did enjoy it. If you're a Pro, get the Collector's Edition. This would be a good game for beginner to intermediate.
Happy Gaming!

I bought this game because the star ratings were so high. However, no one seemed to care about how much dialogue this story has! It seems never ending!
At first, you're asked to come to a house to investigate a murder. Good enough; then all of a sudden you're whisked away into a fantasy with lots of good vs. evil.
You are able to customize how you want to play, i.e hints, skip etc., & that's always a plus for me. The graphics were good; not fantastic, but good. There is a jump map, & you'll need it as there is a lot of going back & forth.
Overall, I enjoyed this game, but I just can't get past how much dialogue there was in it! Maybe the reason they threw it in was to lengthen the game play time. So I will recommend this game, but with hesitation. It would have gone much smoother if I hadn't had to stop & listen to endless stories from the three main characters.
I recommend this game!

First off, I have to say that this story line is very familiar to those of us who have played the "House of a 1000 Doors" series, in that you're in a spooky house with doors suddenly appearing.
This game starts kind of slow, but it picks up quickly.
You can customize your settings however you want, so that makes it a good game for beginners to pros. There's a jump map that makes it much easier to get to places, & there is a lot of going back & forth.
The HOP's were decent; for the most part, I didn't have any trouble with them. Most were lists, but there were others that really made you think. This made the game exciting!
The mini-games were varied; some simplistic, some complicated, & some that just took way to long too figure out. I got frustrated by that, because I don't like to skip them. However, after five or six minutes of having to continually start over, I skipped them.'
The graphics in this game are great. I had no pixel problems at any time. The voice overs are well done as well. There was only one small part where the music was so annoying that I wanted to mute it.
Overall, this game was a joy to play. I've loved all the Mysteries of the Ancients, & this is one of the best in the series. I highly recommend this game!

The Name of the game gives you an idea of what lies ahead. There's a lot of violence in this game. Murder, fist fights, break-ins, kidnappings, blood & police corruption. This is not a game for young kids to play.
In general, this game ran very smooth. You can customize your settings. There's no map; you don't need one. Each scene is independent of the others.
I found myself drawn into the story line quickly, & it was an easy one to follow.
The graphics were great on this, as well as the voice overs. Overall, a great game. Others have said it was too short, however I didn't find that to be the case.
Enjoy this one! Happy Gaming!
