Unusual story line, plenty of plot twists, with great graphics and music. My idea of an ideal game and although I rarely think in terms of "game of the year," this is my choice, and it's November.
4Friends is one of my favorite developers, no matter the series. In particular, they take a story line and do something different with it. I really applaud that. Once again, well done!
I was hesitant to play this game, as I was not impressed by the demo but my faith in the developer led me to the purchase, and I am glad it did. So, definitely try the demo but if you know the developer's work, take a chance.
My reviews are based on completed play of the game. Enjoy.
This is not one of my favorite series but AMAX is a favorite developer for graphics, in particular.
I enjoyed the HOPS and the puzzles, both well-suited to the storyline and not too numerous to interrupt. I play at a casual, intermediate level and I thought, at times, the direction of the game (gathering inventory) was not clear but that may be my level of play (inexperience) and not the game.
As for the storyline, I loved the plot twists, and in this regard, game play was smooth, fun and truly enjoyable. The dialogue was realistic and again, the superb graphics all but brought the characters to real life.
For me, story is everything, and this game doesn't disappoint. In fact, story is why I play these games. This one really does have some mystery to it, although it is a familiar story. In other words it is how the story is told. There are some good twists. Thank you, Elephant Games.
Some of the mini-games were fun but all are easy, which is the way I like them. For the most part, the games are intertwined with the story. HOPS are easy and not distracting from the story.
The great thing about these reviews is what each of us looks for in a game. I don't review every one I play, only those that kept me in the story, and this is one.
All of my reviews are based upon completed play of the game. I always try the demo. Hope you do as well.
Great graphics/music, wonderful HOPs and intriguing mini-games but it's the story line that is superb. It's a bit of Dorian Gray but beyond--with dolls! As one who does not care for dolls, not at all, that is saying something. To say any more about the dolls would be to spoil the game. Suffice to say, stay with the dolls. They are worth it.
As always, try the demo but I highly recommend this game.
If you're willing to believe in magic, this is a great game, and even if you are not, it is still a good game. The magic is not overdone and it's practical, as impossible as that may sound. The same is true for the use of Elf, the dog. In other words, the gadgets and the helper are part of the storyline. Bravo!
And for me, storyline is everything. This one has some great plots twists and turns so what is expected just may not happen. And these twists, along with some really interesting puzzles and hidden object games, make for a lot of fun. This series is rather unique in its storylines, and I always enjoy them.
My review is based upon completed play of the game without the extra chapter. I rarely play those and, for that matter, rarely purchase a CE edition, because I am not a fan of morphs or collectibles but this one was free for me, and I'm glad it was.
The game really is a masterpiece but I did not want to be repetitive with my review title. There cannot be too much good said about this game. All of its praises are true. By far, the best story line I have played.
We all have different reasons for playing these games, and we all look for different things in them. Mine is story line, one that engages me not only as a player but involves me as a reader. I was fascinated by this plot because it is like no other, no matter how many times I thought I knew what would happen. I never did.
I usually wait for an SE but this looked so intriguing I bought the CE. I don't remember ever not wanting to wait for a game. And I'm glad I didn't. What a refreshing game!
As always, try the demo. My review is based upon completed play of the CE but not the bonus chapter.
Congrats to Eipix on this new series! I'm looking forward to the next chapter.
In particular, I like the idea of being able to play two different characters. As one of the other reviewers noted, this is done seamlessly, and it's fun. It works very well with the story and allows another perspective. Artwork and graphics are excellent as always. The same is true for the music. True, there were a few anachronisms but I like the detective story genre so this is a game for me.
This review is based upon completed play of the game. As always, try the demo first.
Always, I look to the storyline, and this game is yet another great game from this developer. It is not that the story line isn't familiar, it is, but there are many twists to the plot, and the dialogue is specific to each action. To me, a good story line allows me to be someone else somewhere else. And that is what the story does for me. I am a real fan of this series.
The graphics are superb, which I have come to know from this developer who is if not the best, then among the best of all. The realism is stunning. Thank you, EleFun.
The music fits the tension in the game and I enjoyed listening to in every scene. I believe another reviewer commented on the subtlety of the humor, and I appreciated that as well.
The hidden object scenes and the mini games are also intertwined with the plot, which is what I think makes such a good story. Sometimes, we carried a bit of inventory with us but mostly, it was obvious what each task was and how to accomplish it. I don't mind doing a bit of hunting for a basic object, and I thought the hidden object scenes were innovative. I enjoyed each one. The mini games we're also a unique take on the usual game. I think that's what I enjoyed about this game the most. It is refreshing.
As always, try the demo. This review is based upon completed play of the game.
It doesn't appear the developer pursued this series, which is regrettable because it's a great game with many a twist. The storyline is a familiar one but again, Vendel Games turns it (and history) into something different.
Story line is important to me, and this game delivers! As well, cutscenes, music, and sound effects, including voiceovers, are all excellent but the graphics are truly beautiful and so detailed.
This is my first game by this developer but already, I am downloading others. The HOPS and mini games are the way I like them, a bit challenging but not distracting. Both HOPS and games are well placed within the plot.
This review is based upon completed play of the game.
If it had not read reviews, I would have passed on this game. As others said, the warning is a bit severe but beyond that, horror, psychological thriller, or nightmare are not generally my kind of game. This game is a welcome exception. I look forward to playing the other two games in the series.
Mad Head Games is a favorite developer of mine, and I have purchased many of their games so that was another reason to try the demo. I was hooked immediately and purchased the game before the demo ran out, not something I generally do.
Some have commented they thought the game was too short but I thought it was a bit long. Thank goodness for varying reviews. The story line intrigued me, entering the nightmare of a young boy and meeting what scares him but the boy is elusive, taunting at times, trying to outrun his fear. For me, it is an unusual story line but again, I don't play this kind of game usually.
I thought the acting was excellent, especially for the aunt and the boy, and the monsters were monsters, growling but not screeching. I like the idea of them being pets, again interesting. It was that kind of nuance that I found intriguing.
I always enjoy Mad Head's hidden object scenes and mini-games but these were some of the best from this developer. Many were original (to me) and the games were not difficult. I, too, like a mini game that does not overshadow the pace of the story. The cutscenes, voice overs, and graphics were first rate. All in all, this was a great game experience.
