You've returned from school to visit your father at his famous Jazz Pepper Club during Mardi Gras, but everyone is hypnotized. Have they heard the wrong note?
This, imho, was an excellent game. Different, unique (as you can get with these types of games), different locale, different story line, different HOS, etc. I actually enjoyed playing the HOS, where I usually just slog through them. Puzzles were intuitive and enjoyable. I love the setting of the game.... Nawleans, Mardi Gras, long ago south. I believe Mad Head succeeds with their games because they take the time to make a game properly instead of churning out one after another. This was a work of art and done with loving care and an inordinate attention to detail. 5 stars from me

After seeing the early 5 star reviews, I'm wondering if I played the same game as everyone else. However, different strokes and all that. Here we have a concept of an actor stepping out of a movie and abducting his once girlfriend while she does nothing but swing her legs a few times. The mother is left in the movie theater, where everything (tigers, man--eating plants, etc) continue to come to life and jump out of the screen. I like the concept of this. However, the game, to be, was a complete failure. The entire game, including the beginning cut scene, was lackluster and missing something... pizzazz? I'm not quite sure. I played the entire demo and disliked every minute of it. The HOS were basically old school junk piles. The puzzles were very easy for me, which means they were elementary level. Voice overs were non-convincing and almost seemed contrived. All objects found were used very quickly in the general vicinity of where you found them. Even though there were bright plants, and lots of "stuff" around, the graphics were blurry and washed out looking. The game play was slow. The cut scenes for each poster were slow. Actions were slow. I finished the demo with time to spare and was at the end of chapter 3. Given that this has 7 chapter, it appears to be a very short game. It seems the team of pachyderms were on vacation when this was made. I do not recommend the game.
Violett is reluctant to move to the dreary countryside. But when a strange light lures her to into a world of magic, she may never find herself bored again!
This is actually a great game. It is a pure adventure game. There aren't any "glitches" or problems with the game. It's NOT a HOG. It's a point and click adventure game, and a pretty difficult one at that. This game worked fine for me both on Windows 7 and on a touch screen (Windows 8). There is not a tutorial because none is needed. It is all about thinking and poking around and trying different things. The controls are different than your usual ERS type HOPA. There's a great video on you tube. Adventure gamers will enjoy this game. A lot of patience and creative thinking are needed for this one :)
They really need a half star rating system here :) I see so many reviewers constantly dishing out 5 star reviews on every game. I believe a 5 star review is for a "knock your socks off" game. As Just the Facts said, this is nothing like the first Dark Strokes game. However, I totally enjoyed it. This developer puts out vibrant games that draw the gamer in. The HOS are nice are varied, but simplistic. The puzzles are actually enjoyable for me You do have a map and a journal. The SG is pictorial, so if you are a user of SG's, you should check it out before you purchase the game. I don't use them, so no big deal for me. The hint button refills quickly and is directional. There are 3 modes of play, no custom however. The game ran flawlessly for me, no tech issues. The music is incredibly soothing and the game is just one of those relaxing games. It is suspenseful in its own way, however, I am not a big fan of fairy tales, but this game leans more toward a dark fairy tale. The voice overs are very good, except the princess does get annoying with her frequent suggestions. There are achievements to earn, collectibles (morphing objects in the HOS and snowflakes). There may be more, but I did not really pay attention to them. I did find the challenge level very low, even on the most difficult setting. There are many black bar tips. This would be a good game for beginning HOPA gamers. You do also get an animal helper, which you not only feed, but name. That took away some of my zeal for the game. I did like the story line, and I choose my games by how much I enjoy the story. All in all, this would probably get about 3.5 stars due to the fact that it takes no brain power at all to play this and because of the annoying helper.
Phantom Tide is a great story line. Something different, more or less. I enjoyed the previous Fear for Sale game, but not the first two. I found this game to be ok. The HOS were basically junk piles. The puzzles were fun and interesting. I found them difficult, but then, I'm not a huge puzzle person. The voice overs were great, although the characters were a bit "wooden". There are achievements and collectibles galore. I will replay this for a bit when it comes out as an SE as I'm not real big on all the morphine objects and collectibles. Half way through the demo, I was losing interest. However, could just be the mood of the day. I do recommend the game. The map does have a lot to be desired as does the SG. I never use the in-game SG, but did check it out and it was very rough. The map was vague. This is, however, a fairly linear game, so that shouldn't be a problem. I loved the water effects and the conch shell. Very well done. The sale offered today does nothing to make me want to purchase the CE, as I already own the other games. As a member of BFG, something different should be offered as most of us who play these games do own the more popular games already.
I did purchase the CE of this which I normally don't do. I waited so impatiently for this game to be released. I am a huge fan of these types of psychological thriller games. Heavy on adventure, light on HOS. Perfect. I had no tech difficulties with the game. The game feeds you the story little by little. Is all as it seems? I don't think so. Are you receiving help from others or being hindered? I am excited this is a trilogy as I cannot wait for the next installment to be released. I am a very story-driven gamer. If I do not like the story, I'm not going to like the game. This was just perfect. No fairytale, no extra fluff, no helpers. Just a good creepy story. This definitely gets a 5 star rating from me across the board. I highly recommend either the CE or SE. And play with the lights out :)
I love to see games by new developers. The 4 Friends team did a fine job on this game. Very talented artists there. This plays like more of an adventure lite (very lite) game than a HOPA. I only ran across a few HOS and they were varied and clear. No junk piles. The puzzles, for me, were challenging and unique. I do like the idea of the mist and finding your brother. What it comes down to is this: besides for the game related achievements and the morphing objects, I don't feel this is worthy of a CE. I can take or leave morphing objects, and never use the wallpaper, etc. I will retry this as an SE. I think it was a good game. Not great, not poor. Just good. A solid 3.5 stars in my book. Enjoy :)
I recommend this game!

Nightmares from the Deep: Davy Jones Collector's Edition
Escape the cold incarceration of Davy Jones' brig and discover the otherworldly origins of his galleon in this thrilling Hidden Object adventure.
A gorgeous game from one of my favorite artistic developers. This seems as it will be the last in the Nightmares from the Deep series. I found I liked this one the best. Whereas most trilogies go downhill after the first or second game, Artifex seems to have taken this story up a notch and have made this quite a finale. Game play itself has been reviewed very well by previous reviewers, and TY for that The game is challenging, it does require you to think. I am usually not a fan of cut scenes, but these are done superbly and don't seem to interfere with the story. There are quite a few collectibles, but they are there if you want to stop and get them. Meaning, they're not interrupting the game flow. I found the puzzles pretty tricky but unique and enjoyable. I even liked the HOS, of which I am usually not a fan. This is a long game, very nicely done. The artists at Artifex are super talented and it shows in every detail of the story. I recommend, highly .

I do love these soft releases. They are such a departure from the monotony of the "standard" HOPA's released. This is the story of two brothers who set out to find a secret island, with only one brother returning. He claims his brother never made it and died on the voyage there. It seems he's telling fibs. As the departed brother's daughter, you get evidence that your father did indeed make it to the island and you set off to find out what happened. The HOS are nicely spaced out and interactive. The cut scenes are also nicely spaced: enough to give a story, but not overwhelming. The puzzles are medium difficulty and were unique and different. The game and story flowed smoothly. You do have collectibles, not one, but three maps since the area is so large, a great hint button if you prefer that over maps, and a very shocking conclusion. I highly recommend this game. Was long playing and enjoyable. Congrats to these new developers. I look forward to their future releases.
There is something about Eipix games that I absolutely love, this being no exception. I think this is the best of the "Final Cut" games thus far. The HOS are varied and require thought. I love the puzzles created by this developer. They are actually fun and tricky, and I am not a puzzle lover. There is a serial killer loose and you are out to find him before he destroys the rest of your family. You have a side kick reporter with you (I actually could do without him, but oh well). The game requires thinking. It is not linear and if you play in the difficult mode, it is a real thinking game. I love the way their games center around the story, the HOS are about the story, the puzzles are story-related. None of this side fluff nonsense here. I highly recommend this, and with the sale (even though it's NOT half off membership price) I shall be purchasing this one. Have a wonderful weekend And, as an afterthought, the music is wonderful !!!
