With all due respect to the developers, I cannot get in to this game and I'm bored to tears. Game-play was mediocre in my opinion. The flow was dragging and I found that I was clicking here, there, and everywhere for no reason other than to find an artifact to fit the shape, and, also came to realize that my raccoon helper was not as helpful as I had thought he would be. I'd click on an area where he was called to help to find that it was all for naught because another object had to be found to fit the shape. Then when I would find an object, with Mr. Raccoon's help, I had to click a couple of times to get him to do the task. Boring! There were so many of those that I decided to write my review now to say, thumbs down on this game!
The graphics were good not great. The music was okay and bearable.
Sure, there are some good points to this game, but I'm too weary to mention them. I encourage you to try the demo. Everyone has their own tastes and preferences. This one is obviously not for me. I'm nearing the end of this CE version and can't wait until it's over.
There's a statue, I believe, of a woman with her tongue hanging out of her mouth that's about 6 feet long. Okay I'm exaggerating--3 feet long!! And, yes, there are ghosts!
This game is not cutting it for me, I'm sorry to say. Since when do you sign a deed outside and on the day you're moving in? The sequence of tasks are nonsensical! It took forever to find one match for the "empty" matchbox. You go from the top floor to the kitchen, to outside, back to the living-room, then to the upstairs. Good grief!
The HOPs are boring, the artwork is good. The storyline seems to be focusing on what I think are the 7 deadly sins: wrath, greed, sloth, pride (as in vanity), lust, envy, and gluttony. I could be wrong about that but all I know is I'm almost 1/2 way into the SE version of this game and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. The biggest challenge for me is playing until the end and that I will.
The mini-games are not that bad, though. The game does have its moments but not enough for me to give it a higher rating. So with that in mind, I still recommend it, as it might be the game for you.
These "mad hatter" devs of Mad Head Games put on their thinking caps even more so with this game. Welcome to their new chamber of horrors! I'm on the edge of my seat, and am a little more than one-third in to this SE version. Probably for the first time, I'm more interested in a riveting storyline, such as this one, than anything else.
What with all the tasks, not to mention, all the items that you will accumulate in your inventory, you'll have enough to do. Let's just say, I'll stick with the SE version whereas I won't have to worry about morphing objects and collectibles. Fine by me!
Although this game is not as creepy as Maze: Subject 360, it's creepy enough. Artificial intelligence S.A.R.A. will refer to you as a resident. I'm very rarely in compliance, and that ticks her off! Well let me tell you, she's one sadistic, psychomaniac governed by one or more sicko minds who are behind it all.
The fact that I almost drowned and probably would have had I not realized that I was part of a mini-game, I'd still be there clicking on fists. LOL! Follow the sequence, folks!
Serums, blood samples are enough to keep me on my toes throughout this game. Also, you're strapped with some mind control bracelet, and should you disobey, it will cause you to writhe in agony and even bleed. I had to save the life of a man who came near to getting a drill in his one eye! Finding the cubes was a nail-biter for me! Whew!! The mini-games are tedious and challenging, most of them, that is.
So, yes, I am enjoying the adrenaline flow. The tasks are scattered here n' there, some logical and some not. Somehow that ice pick did the trick instead of the crooked fork. Go figure! But it all works somehow!
To date, I have about 18 items in my inventory I have yet to use, and that makes me nervous; but there is a method to Mad Head's madness. But having all those items in my inventory disrupts the game-flow I always look for in a good game but for some uncanny reason, I don't care about that right now because I want to get to the crux of the problem. I want to save Ted and others. I want the end result!
Survival is of the utmost importance! You've got to be smarter than S.A.R.A. Some of the tasks are off the wall, and make no sense, which really end up making sense! Sounds contradictory, but so true.
The acting is outstanding. So far the music is eerie, repetitive, and annoying, so I muted that, but I kept the sound effects, which are great. Considering the subject matter, the graphics are good. The storyline flows really well, so much so that I feel I'm in a movie playing the leading role. Maybe that's why S.A.R.A. is bent out of shape because she's not the star!! Hah!
There is violence and some cruelty, if truth be told, which makes me want to capture or destroy this creep or creeps, once and for all.
Mad Head devs, ingenious! I love the art deco elevator door, by the way! I'm rating this game a low 5-star due to some inconsistencies. You know when you click on an item in your inventory it will tell you what that item is, not so in the HOP scenes and I found a few of them difficult to decipher. For instance, is that a chunk of cheese or a candle?! Nevertheless, I highly recommend this game.
I've played the other four in the series and this is actually no different from those. I've got 28 minutes left in the demo but I thought I'd give my review now since it seems to me that this game has the very same game play, same strategy, just different storyline. Beautiful, beautiful scenes, for sure, but some that seem familiar to me. Loved the music at the intro. Glad the devs added that! Great job with the eye-candy!
Much of the tasks, mini-games are elementary as usual. You have your cute sidekick who's quite animated, and judging from the demo isn't as helpful just yet! The HOPS are the usual--not that innovative.
I love Elephant Games' artwork and charming scenes, no doubt. But for once I'd like the storyline to hold true to the book, so to speak. Get rid of the elf and the silly characters and give us the story as it was really written. I don't mean to be a humbug, but take A Christmas Carol, for instance, the game was nothing like Dickens wrote it. What with Elephant Games' stunning artwork, I can only imagine how that could have been played out if they did write a game that was verbatim to the storyline. I would have paid for that without any discount, too. On the whole, though, it is a cute game thus far. And the point of it all is to have fun. Challenging--not so sure about that!
This is a delightful game, in my opinion, to be played at your leisure. I do love the Christmas scenes, the music. There's lots of back n' forth business, once again, but if I were to buy this game it would be the standard version only.
The artwork is very pleasing to the eye and can draw you in to the spirit of Christmas. I'm rating this game 3.25 stars. I'm very glad, however, that I played most of the demo. I do recommend this game. To each his/her own!
I recommend this game!

I'm nearing the end of this SE version. For the storyline, please read Big Fish's summary or refer to some of the reviewers who always give in depth information about the game. Good map and hint button. I customize my games with little or no help, but I daresay if I played this game in casual mode, my rating would be the same.
I have ambivalent feelings. I think Grim Façade: The Red Cat warrants a 5-star for the ingenuity of the tasks, and some, not all, of the mini-games. However, I was bored with the HOPS--average at best. The logic and the back n' forth business, I rate two-stars. One example: I have my two key molds, found my gripper, but I need water to dip them in, and lo and behold, I must go outside around the corner to a fountain! Groan! However, I like the fact that these devs were keeping me on toes--I'm all over the place! And yet, some of the tasks were very clever.
I found that I was clicking on one item after another--going from one scene to another, and sometimes spending too much time in another scene. It disrupts the flow of the game for me. I want to move on and enjoy the other scenery.
Switching the tokens would have been fun for me but I was clicking far too many times to get the thing to work, so I skipped it. The mechanism was a bit off.
The main voiceover at the intro, has a very deep, booming voice. I've heard him before. The other voiceovers are very good as well.
The graphics by ERS are always well-done. And they put a lot of thought into this game. The sound effects are the same but very good. I enjoyed the fragment-finder, but as usual, I had many items in my inventory and wanted to get crackin' on those!
It's a good game with a plethora of things to do but the thought process is a bit scattered. Even so, I recommend the game because you will get your money's worth if you can stick it out. I rate this game 3.25 stars.
Let me preface it to say that this is one of the most clever SE games I've played in a long while. I'm nearing the end of it. I'm not rating it a 5-star because of a few factors.
#1, though the interactive HOPS were somewhat clever, there were far too many of them, and some of the same scenes were often used. The artwork in the HOP scenes were pretty junk pile scenes at best. Some of the objects were too hard sometimes, and I was becoming bored with them, to be honest. I did like finding the silhouette items from time to time. I wish there could have been a Match 3 game or some other option, but I guess only CEs offer those from time to time.
Another thing that I get nervous about is how long some of the items remained in the inventory. But it does prolong the game and I guess it kept me on my toes. When there are a few items in your inventory, which doesn't exceed a certain amount, your left and right arrows are gone. The map was good and the hint button, if needed, was okay. As creative as the tasks were I felt parts of the game seemed more 20th century than 21st.
I found the storyline to be very creative--though it's the same old Good vs. Evil factor, it kept me engrossed. The voiceovers were excellent. Once you release some of the characters of their evil spirits, the scene that followed seemed a bit too animated or abnormal to me; as if the editing was done too quickly. Case in point: I released the evil spirit from the conductor and he should have gradually come out of his stupor, but instead he had the appearance of someone with a fake smile, greeting his guests at the door. Way too animated!
My favorite part of the game are the puzzles. Very clever and many of the mini-games were not carbon copies of others. I like that.
The graphics were good but not the greatest. I did like the cut scenes. I like the RIFT and/or PORTALS idea, but getting the spirits into them was a very cool idea, that is, with the help of the amulet. Well done, devs!
For an SE game, it played out like a CE without the morphing objects and collectibles and everything else a CE may offer.
Same reviewers may not like the song at the intro, but I loved it! The lyrics were available (without the bouncing ball. That takes me back a few years!) If you want to know anything about the game's storyline, well, it's right there in the lyrics, folks. Devs, great idea, and I for one, enjoyed the singing. I would like to see more of it in games to come!
I purchased this game at a great discount, thanks to Big Fish. And without a doubt, I recommend this game. Again, for an SE, it's rather good. Try it out and see for yourselves!
I just finished the Main Game of this CE version, and am looking forward to the Bonus Game. The subject matter gets a definite 5-star from me. Basically, it's a matter about getting along. I am rating this game a low 5-star, and that's due to some of the illogical tasks.
You're Lana and you've got to save your father; come Hades or high water! And by golly, Lana has her adventure all cut out for her, too; with a little help from some friends. I liked Coop, he is cute! And there's Leander, oohhh, and that Queen Alysandra. Metal to the queen is like kryptonite to Superman!
I thought the alternative use for the hook gadget for climbing was a bit silly to be honest. But the tasks that required the gadget(s) were at times very intriguing. Aside from some of the illogical and somewhat confusing tasks, I really got in to this game and racked up some achievements.
There are some morphing objects in the HOPS and fairies to collect, and wouldn't you know it, I only collected 12 out of 32 in the Main Game. I'm sure there are more in the Bonus Game. No matter, I loved the thought that was put into this game by these devs. Kudos to them!
I rate the mini-games a 5-star; they were extremely clever and different and I enjoyed each one. They were challenging enough but required more patience than anything else. I did skip a couple, though. Loved those a lot! The HOPS were different and fun, too.
I felt there were too many screen movements or cut scenes, and lots of dialogue but I must commend all the character voiceovers. They did an excellent job! The script/story was engrossing. There is one scene with the queen that was questionable to me. But it didn't turn out the way I thought it might. Whew!
I loved the beautiful artwork--outstanding! The Elevens put me in mind of the Lord of the Rings! The music was fabulous. The acting was superb! Awesome map; effective hint button. I loved the journal, and you had the Guide if need be. Everything was at your fingertips. These devs are known for being organized.
What a great concept for a game--a charming and thought-provoking fantasy game that will leave a good taste in your mouth. I highly recommend it.
My review is based on a completed SE game. I really liked this game! It has intrigue, lots of great tasks, good mini-games, nice graphics--not the best but very good. I think EleFun devs put a lot of effort into this game, especially the artwork. Though the graphics were somewhat muted now and then, the color palette was very good.
There are loads of objects and scenes and we were often brought back to the same scene especially where the HOPS were concerned. Speaking of which, I felt there were a smidgeon too many HOPS. But the neat thing was you had the option to choose the puzzle instead, which I did from time to time. Slightly boring though.
The mini-games were very good actually, not hard but tedious and some of them required patience as usual.
I like the fact that Emma's voiceover was natural and engaging. Emma always seemed optimistic when situations got real serious. I liked the character's confidence and courage, too. I usually dive right in to the game and target the strategy and game-flow, but in this case, it was Emma and the other characters that intrigued me more, which is unusual for me, because I like to move on with the game.
Now there was one creepy scene, like the "Chucky" doll, who was crawling on the floor with a shackle in his mouth. Once you found the object that he needed, the shackle was released from his mouth. What spooked me was the fact that he fell asleep in a crawling position with his mouth wide open. Ironically I felt sorry for the lil' fella', and had I been one of the artists, I would have drawn him lying down peacefully.
There was another character named Ben who I swear got hurt more than I could bear, and if it hadn't been for Emma's great attitude and bravery, I would have been bored to tears!
I thought there were some really magical moments in this game; and for a standard version, it was quite good. I definitely rate this game 4 stars. There were a few too many cut scenes; needless to say, they were well-done. Great job, devs!
Devs, Applaud! Applaud! Applaud! You finally came up with the right strategy, game flow, and near perfect logic. I knew you could do it! I knew you had it in you all the time; and yes, I have been hard on you because I knew you could do so much better, but there was always something lacking in your previous games. But you came through this time with flying colors!
Your desktop palette--tablet, diary, inventory section--hint button, guide, etc., is very colorful and well-organized. Everything is neatly in place.
The story is exceptionally, well-written, and suspenseful; the puzzles and mini-games are strategically sound and challenging and amazing; the graphics are off the charts, voiceovers are fantastic. There are loads and loads of things to do that my head is still swimming!
I'm nearing the end of the Main Game of this CE version and I'm anxious to find out who the murderer is. The suspense is killing me!!! I'm looking forward to playing the Bonus Game, too. I don't want to stop but I have to take a break and live my life!
I love all the techno gadgets that are used so far in this game; innovative tasks; you have your collectibles--I haven't collected all the money yet but no matter. I'll go back if I can and comb through the scenes and that's easy to do with the great map that we have. I'm too engrossed in the storyline to worry about them right now, though. I enjoyed checking out the info on the tablet. So cool! The morphing objects in the HOPS scenes are really neat! There's so much to do!
I highly recommend this game. Try it and see for yourselves. I know there are different strokes for different folks, but you may very well love this game as much as I do.
First, let me say that I love games that challenge me but I don't like games whereby tasks require 10 things to accomplish to move on and then to come back again. This may be a spoiler alert--maybe not, take lighting the furnace, for instance. Not only did it require several tasks to complete but the back n' forth business is rather frustrating to say the least. I have to agree with some of the negative reviews about this. I'm giving this game 2.75 stars.
Five-BN devs aren't the only ones who give you great games but like some other developers I won't mention here, they tend to be disorganized in their strategy. There is a lack of order and/or common sense I've noticed, thus far. Sometimes I have overlooked this fact with other games because their storyline and tasks made sense and were enjoyable to complete even with the back n' forth business.
Yes, I know we're told to try the demo, but let's face it folks, the demo doesn't always give you an accurate picture in the short period of time you're allotted.
Still its not a bad game but the storyline is somewhat choppy and the dialog is much too long. I like listening to the actors but again, let's get on with the game, will ya'!
There are positive aspects of this game--the graphics are awesome, the music is good, the voiceovers are good, I like the morphing objects, the collectibles but the game-flow is mediocre at best. The go-to map is great! The hint button is good. The puzzles are so-so, to be honest.
I'm in the middle of this CE version and the fact that you have numerous items in your inventory, which makes me nervous to begin with, has added to my frustration. I love long games but if this is an indication of how this entire game will play out I'm not sure I'll enjoy it but since I'm not a quitter and that I paid for this game, at a good discount, I will suffer through it.
I'm glad that others are enjoying the game. More power to them! It's not the worst game I've ever played but I expected so much more. I still recommend this game because once again--to each his/her own!
