first off let me be clear that i didn't play the original game but this is a fantastic game.
Everything about it is great - the characters, the music and the artwork is spectacular. The voice over or narrator has a beautiful voice - could listen to him forever. Well done.
When i played the demo i loved the game - initially it looks a little childish but it isn't.
It is a real adventure and so true is its meaning.
The puzzles were fantastic (and i completed them on hard) and so different from the run of the mill we are getting today. I just loved the puppet show puzzle - what an inspiration.
Also the hidden objects were fun as well. It was so refreshing to do a hidden objects were you actually had to look at the list / instructions (because they are not all lists) I am finding games these days are so predicable i don't even have to look at the items i need - i can find them. But with this game it is sooooo different and soooo enjoyable.
I did miss the map but that is because all the games now have maps and i guess when this game came out - no maps were included but it wasn't difficult to navigate around - i guess i have got lazy (:))
i played the CE version when it come out and was so over board games e.g. Bridge to Another World: Endless Game and Labyrinths of the World: A Dangerous Game so after about 5 minutes i gave up on the demo.
Today this game was on special $4 but i had a coupon (and there really isn't that many games out there that i want to purchase and the coupon was going to run out).
I was surprised that i actually liked this game - the hidden objects are terrific because they are different e.g. not all boring lists and the puzzles were good and some challenging and i was able to complete them all. (yah me) Great effort from the developers for keeping it different.
I think the developers have taken the time to make it a little bit more fun by interacting with items eg. eye balls moving etc - just added that little bit more to it.
Overall there isn't anything new in the storyline but what can you add to a Halloween theme.
I am pleased that i did purchase (even with a coupon) this game - it will be one that i will play again.
I purchased this game in 2019 - didn't write a review and decided when completing the game for the third time to write a review - because it is a fantastic game.
I oved everything about the game. And also loved that the bonus chapter was all just about the famous Andrew Collins.
The characters are funny and so very witty, the puzzles are great (not a puzzle person) and the hidden object were good also.
It was so very refreshing to have a tool kit (no more looking for knifes anymore).
Well done to the developers for providing a game that was interesting, funny, had all the characters "talking" not dialogue - everything about the game was great.
i have all the Dark City games and although we met Agatha in the Budapest game it was good to see her again. It was great to hear her talking to the other characters - not sure why developers don't have everyone talking ...... some main characters are just dialogue. So i was pleased to see Agatha.
the puzzles were on the easy side (and that is saying something coming from me because i am not a puzzle person) however there wasn't any new puzzles - there are just re-hashed from Dark City games. The hidden objects were varied.
i guess i enjoyed the game but it was a little boring and didn't really offer much in the way of a super entertainment.
I purchased this on BOGO so it was the price of a SE - however i really don't think it was value for money.
value for money - definitely NOT. I purchased this on special (1/2 price) and still i feel ripped off.
i have 13 out of 20 Grim Tale games - i am the sort of person that when i decide i like a series then i purchase all the games in that series and as a result i have purchased some shocking series games but i always hope that they will get better ....i have since decided on so many series games not to continue collecting and Grim Tales has added to that list.
I had played the demo and decided to purchase ONLY if price of a SE - i had two free games and purchased on BOGO.
Firstly Richard - i never really understood why / what purpose other than giving items and when he was "killed" off in the last game i really didn't miss him however on reflection Richard is Grim Tales and i do miss his wit. Being "killed" off is one thing but being replaced - NO way.
The storyline was very confusing (except for the bonus chapter) - i had no idea who was who and why .............. perhaps it was just me but i read / heard all the dialogue so i must have missed something. And why couldn't the main character talk to everyone - she only seemed to talk to herself everything else was dialogue.
The puzzles and Hidden Objects were more of the same except for the first one which gave you no idea what to do - i guess you work it through perhaps if the other hidden objects games were like this it may have been fun. The puzzles were too simple - i don't like puzzles but i like to challenge myself and these didnt challenge me one bit. They appears to be puzzles from all the other games (nothing original here).
Note to Developers - we (the gamers) pay lots of money for games and also be become members of Big Fish - we really deserve a decent length - 4 - 5 hours (included bonus game) is NOT decent. I think 6 - 7 hours is a great length. This game took me 4.5 hrs - which is definitely not worth the price of a CE or even SE on special.
Another note to Developers - the reason a series became a series and not a one off is because the characters are repeated in the series and the background of those characters are known to the gamers. I like my series to be "true to itself" meaning that the characters are there and if you introduce new characters they develop a series. DO NOT "kill" off main characters - they make the series. And never (repeat never) replace the main characters.
As always try before you buy - and happy gaming :)
(review was lost in the system so submitting this review from memory because i don't want to do the game again).
i couldn't believe it but even after i did the demo i purchased this game (on special) - you can't just delete a major character such as Rick Rogers - i have travelled with him for so many games and he is just gone ???
Rachel has NO abilities - not sure why she took the centre stage .... is it too late to bring Rick back perhaps after 13 years it is.
i did have to start the game again and the 2nd time through it was much quicker but also much more depressing because i just wanted to finish the game.
Developers please find a way to bring back Rick - delete Rachel or just finish the series with this very disappointing game.
i purchased this game on 60% discount price (which is just .81 cents more than the SE costs) - i played the demo and knew that i would purchase this game. I just loved the fairies.
The colour was fantastic - the storyline kept my interest - i didn't mind the accents or that it was based in a UK county.
The puzzles were super easy and after the 2nd puzzle had to change from easy to hard (in custom mode) - liked the hidden objects.
I don't normally look for all the collectables but i did in the game.
i purchased this game on 65% special offer - would have kicked myself if i paid full price. i really tried to like this game - i have the murderous jealousy collection edition (also purchased 65% discounted) ................. that was an OK game nothing exciting considering it was the first of the games.
I am over paranormal detectives - think this has been done to death.
i have tried 4 times to play this game - nothing wrong technically except the game itself. It is so frustrating because it doesn't make sense e.g. why is her purse at his house ? why does he have a safe in the desk but is sent (via mail) the badge to unlock ? Why does she talk on the phone while driving ? ................. sorry i just can't get passed these things they just frustrate me no end.
I don't particularly like playing 2 parts - not sure why at lot of games now days do this ?
Developers please please please make games that are logical in sequence.
I am a person who likes to have full series games but i will NEVER purchase (even if free) another of these.
i purchased this game in 2019 have played it twice since but Fading signal was showing as a daily special the other day and decided to play it again (as well as Light Advent and fading signal)
All three games are worth the 5 stars although Light Advent is 2015 and you can tell my the number of items in the hidden objects but still it did not attract from the game.
I loved the puzzles and the hidden objects and the storyline was something that kept my interest.
