For light entertainment, and a game which is a change from the norm - this game will do nicely.
If you come to this game expecting a full on experience of being in House as on TV, you expect too much. If you want the general feel and essence of it, and a simple set of games to push the story arc along, then this will meet your expectations.
Format:
I've casually watched some episodes of house on the TV, and this felt, mood wise and structure wise, like like playing 5 or so episodes of it. You have the main case ongoing that you try to solve, interspersed with the 'clinic' visits of a patient. If you do well, you get Wilson giving you kudos comments. If you don't do so well, expect some heat from Cuddy! There is a story arc which runs through the episodes which is a nice touch. Cheesy, but helped 'close' the game with some final overall ending.
Mood of game:
I found the humor mildly amusing (not "haha" funny, as I don't think it is meant to be. It fits with the poor humor comments you would expect from House)
My other half said the pictures were not great, but I thought they were ok. Nothing spectacular, but House isn't fantasy land or anything. I was satisfied. No voice overs or anything, just reading of text, which suits me fine as you can imagine peoples voices from knowing the TV series so well. I think they captured the mood well enough with the scripts used.
Mini Games: VERY simplistic and not overly challenging.
- 'Guess the disease before it completely spells out' game as words bounce about the screen (I used to like hangman on "Speak and Spell" a lot as a kid! :) I liked this.
- Lots of simple 'guess the implement to use on which body part' when assessing patients. A bit overly simple, but what else are you meant to do as a Doctor?
- Catching bacteria zooming across my microscope view and sorting them into pots - again very simple.
- Following instructions to take a blood sample, or processing it. A bit repetitive once you get further on in the game.
But you know what, as overly simple as the games were, I really didn't want anything overly complicated on a hot holiday evening, and was happy clicking about for a couple of evenings playing house. It could do with being harder to make it more fun, but then I sense that the point of this game was more mood and story setting than game oriented.
I didn't like or dislike this game, but I certainly do not think it deserves a poor rating. If you want a simple game for summer holiday, with slightly different game play, then this offering ticks those boxes.

Nice game. Don't expect a follow on or tie in with Surface: Mysteries of another world.

An easygoing good looking HO adventure, with an uncomplicated storyline. Excellent use of real life actors in the game, which fits in naturally compared to other games I've seen.
Game play and mini games: I likey!
- I very much liked the variation in mini-game puzzles that I had not played before to align crystals into patterns with magnets, and finding arrangements of star constellations, and fit to match skeleton keys. Definitely refreshing.
- Game wise it is sectioned up into 5 nice chapters, and you don't get inventory overload either.
- You can collect flowers during the game, in order to decorate an office in the game. It doesn't seem to enhance or change game play in any way, so I found it a bit pointless, confusing, and distracted from the main story line.
Interesting dubbing: Funny
- Thank heavens the nurse in the game is wearing a mask. Otherwise I would have spent even more time laughing at serious moments because of the dubbing. Absolutely sheer comedy PLUS ! I nearly fell off my chair at the serious parts in the final chapter with giggles. It is a bit distracting.
Storyline: OK
I was expecting something following on from Surface: Mysteries of another world. But only saw flowers which were the same from both games. So I thought 'Ok it's not based on that other world story, but let's see where this takes us.' But I didn't really feel like I went anywhere. It just didn't have the same same level of drama and fantastical epic-ness of consequences that SMOAW had. For that reason I can't give it 4 stars. The core storyline just was not imaginative enough for me, after having been happily blown away by SMOAW.
It is really a very nice game, especially if you want something to relax to. Just don't expect to be scared, overly excited, or absorbed completely by the storyline.
I recommend this game!

Beautiful sounds and graphics, but a story line that is not particularly gripping.
I really didn't care what happened in this game, so the puzzles, even the good ones, felt like obstacles I just had to get through because I had paid for the game.
Good things in the game: You don't get an overloaded inventory which makes things manageable, nice sounds and graphics.
It's not a bad game, but this is the first game of this type that I could not complete in one sitting in a few hours or over a few days, and could only face coming back to it a couple of weeks later, feeling obliged to complete it after having paid for it - hence the overall 2 stars.
I like dogs, but not this game.
I don't recommend this game.

Fancy playing a fun relaxing platform game, that makes you feel like you are in an Asterix Cartoon? This is it.
Story -
You are Porthos! Indeed you are. Off to save your captured musketeer companions, by leaping and fighting your way through some colorful well drawn platform settings, and collecting keys and coins en route. Trying to stop you are twisty corridors and obstacles, along with soldiers, archers, ghosts, falling axes, spike traps, giant spiders, rampaging pigs (!), and not forgetting an evil Count!
Controls and combat -
Quick to comprehend and responsive when used - Arrows for directions, space to jump and X to sword fight. The changes in angle of the camera whilst you move are not distracting, and some of the levels are challenging with trying to figure out where to go next. Combat is _very_ simple. Fortunately the end of section boss fights, move away from the standard combat in the game to provide more of a challenge.
Save options -
You can't save as you go along, but the game does autosave at regular intervals. If you lose a life you restart in the area you are currently in. If you lose all your lives you can continue from the last major autosave point in the plot. The game is well spaced so it is not usually too far back at all. It is an easy game to come back to at any time, and not wonder 'what clues do I have to remember' etc...
Visuals -
The game doesn't play in full screen, that I can tell, but it doesn't detract from the atmosphere or game play at all. Drawings and graphics in game are simple clear and effective. Only during the movie clips the graphics appear blurred.
Audio -
Sound and music is crisp and complements the light mood and setting of the game.
Humor wise -
Porthos has quite the ego, and does flop about entertainingly when he is running along. During the game, I had a small smile playing on my lips nearly the whole time. Apart from when a pig ran into my head as I tried to climb a ladder, thus taking my last life... grrr :)
Difficulty and game time -
I played this over the course of a few days on and off, so it is of decent length. For difficulty and challenge, I would rate this as easy with a few medium parts of difficulty. It is this low challenge score which makes this game an overall 3 and not 4.
Summary-
If you want a light fun and simple platform game, or looking for a recommendation for a light break from typical HO games I would recommend this. (Check the video clip / demo to make sure this is your cup of tea).
I recommend this game!

An alright game, with alright graphics, dull music, purile humor (e.g getting covered in "plop" by accident) and disappointing ending.
If you play this game, a tip from another review: Have a piece of paper and pen at the ready. Also read the tutorial before you start.
You're in a village (that is a pain to navigate around - hint: use the flag to help you), and need to go into the houses and shops (to find quests and buy objects), then go back to relevant house with object(s) found or bought, to earn money in order to buy the plane ticket you need to get to the island where the Mayor is holed up. (Not a spoiler, as this is the specified point of game).
Overall I'd give it a 3, but there were things which really bugged me:
1)Navigation and directional movement is not intuitive,
2) Game freeze - Getting into the notebook of quests gets slower as you get further in the game
3) End game part for me made the game crash out and then come back to the main menu - so I had not realised I had competed it (and ended up playing for another 3 hours the other quests thinking I had missed something to complete it properly)... It made me unhappy when I looked up the ending on you-tube and realised I'd reached that point, and that the whole ending was uncreative.
If you have a spare credit and want something a bit different with toilet humor, and requirement to use pen and paper notes - feel free. I won't be playing any other games that are compared to this one in any reviews.
I don't recommend this game.

Good mix of match, spot the difference, mahajog, matching pairs - at a medium / easy level which you can play easily whilst watching tv. Get to level 100 to finish the game with abrupt ending.
I've only played one match game before (Call of Atlantis, which was wickedly good - but no end to it) and this game started out with the same high level of addictiveness, so that I had to buy the game after playing the demo.
However, after getting several levels in, I expected the difficulty of the game would increase significantly, and it didn't. So for me, this game is too easy, especially considering I am a relative newbie to match games.
Also I didn't really see the point of the city building - was it preventing me from moving on in the game or making the game progress? Or decorating my character? I have no idea how these things even contributed to the overall game. It didn't seem to matter to anything if I did a good or bad job of it. Pointless part of the game then?
Story line wise I gave up reading any parts of it because it became same-y and dull. Just a lot of text on a screen that you cannot even interact with.
For something to occupy yourself and match match match, without stressing your brain out too much and unwinding to, this will do the job.

A platform game where each level is a puzzle to figure out how to get to the exit. Sounds simple? Hohoho, think again. The levels are interspersed with quirky and light humored comic strip story line and alternative puzzle challenges.
Story:
A mad professor has kidnapped a couple and separated them, and they have to make their way through all the mazes and pipes of the factory to vanquish the Prof, in order to reunite with their lost loooooove.....
Feel of game:
Sounds and music match the late 80s/ early 90s feel of the graphics, and game play is deceptively simple and enjoyable. The simple black and white motif of the game elicits an interesting comment at the end of the game (You'll see!)
Game play:
- You get to choose if you want to male / female.
- You get to skip up to 3 times if you want and can re-do any of them to recoup that "skip" if you want to use it elsewhere
- You can re-do levels at any time
- Completing the game unlocks new puzzles, of platform and alternative puzzle variety.
Platform puzzles:
Figure out how to get to the exit. Sounds simple and dull. But that is not always the case, and you get sucked in. There are some very simple puzzles, and also some puzzles which make you want to pound your head against the wall to help try figure it out. (Very satisfying when you do though!) It is for this reason I am giving a very good overall 4* score, for balancing and introducing difficulty at a good rate in the game.
In the "rock" hard puzzles I unlocked _after_ completing the game, I am and hour into still tryng to figure out the first one, but happy go keep pecking away at it. It is indeed 'rock' hard, and harder than the levels in the core game. :)
In the game, you turn the screen upside down or 90 degrees by touching various panels in the game, or invert the screen by choice as part of the game. The first few levels help you get the hang on controls which are pretty simple and classic options: arrows and space, or ASDW and space. So you can be hands-on the keyboard.
For me, this game engaged the same part of my brain which I used when playing the PS3 game Portal i.e. "If I am upside down, but I jump here, then I could be here and here, to do blah blah..." Where sometimes your brain hurts and you go ahead and take a blind leap of faith to see where you end up, and sometimes become very happy with the end result, or have to press R to reset because you have blocked yourself from other moves.
The alternative puzzles:
Spot the difference, Sliding blocks, Pipe fitting - Easier than the platform parts of the game and a welcome brain refresher. Quite fun! In the main game, these are timed. In the unlocked challenges, they are not.
Summary:
If you like platform games that are a "medium - sometimes hard-ish difficulty", and figuring puzzles out relating to gravity and inverting your environment - then you will enjoy this for sure.
I recommend this game!

I played 30 mins of the demo, curious as to the previous negative review feedback. I couldn't face playing any more.
Moving from one HO to another HO from the same screen (no moving around) with a few puzzles thrown in, not not for me - but since the game description is after all HO, fair enough.
For the HO scenes, the objects were not necessarily in size proportion to the surroundings which I found off putting. And the darkness of the scenes for me was not attractive to game play. I did think that finding ghost faces in the HO games was a nice touch. You can store 3 ghosts max at a time, which can create a 'hints' pool for when you want an object flagged to you. Which I definitely needed as I did not have too much patience with the game.
My personal preference is for something more HOPA with an engaging story line I care about and makes me want to progress in the game to find out what happens next... for me, that was definitely missing here.
If you are into HO heavy games without wandering about, maybe you want to check out the demo?

If you want something snappy and sharp as a game - this is not it. This is more for those who want it slow and atmospheric.
Atmosphere:
I found it as spooky as a damp trump under the duvet. [If you want a creepy HOPA game I recommend Dire Grove]
Gameplay:
Slow, awkward controls to move around the game, and very tired of finding things I could pick up but not put in my inventory _yet_ but maybe later.
If I wanted to read books, I'd rather pick up a paper one, and not get goggle eyes reading pages and pages and pages on a computer game. Don't get me wrong - the stories in there and concept for the game are good, but I was just not feeling it at all.
I am happy to use my imagination, and believe you me it is very vivid, but relying on that to carry me through the game (after reading pages of stuff on the screen and not playing the game itself) was heavy going, not helped by getting sick of the controls and sick of not being able to pick up twig x but for some unknown reason pick up twig y...
Puzzles:
I saw on one review that the type of puzzles/problem in this game is for more experienced players of the genre, and based on this I would be inclined to agree. Taking photos on my mobile phone of the screen with a puzzle key, in order to see side by side the key and puzzle on screen at same time, and scribbling on a bit of paper too, is not my idea of fun. (So I ended up taking a photo of the solution from a walkthrough and applying it hehehehe :)
It slightly reminded me of the old 90s game Myst (another game I never finished!) - all scenery and completely 'guess the thing to click on or do next'. If that's the sort of game you like, then this will ring your bell.
Subjective decision:
Unfortunately for me, this is the second large file game I've tried (Other was Dracula origins), and obviously these are not the games for me. They just feel sooooo slooooooooow and cumbersome in display, movement, game play.
I prefer the 'play for 6-8 hours and solve a story' type of game, or lengthy RPG type - so neither recommending or disrecommending this, as it obviously is not falling into my preferred genre type. And if you have a genre preference like mine, then you will likely struggle with playing this game until the end. I didn't.

For a first timer on RPG games of this kind, via BigFish - this is a nice gentle start. Not too complex, humorous dialog, decent ongoing increases in difficulty for battles.
It was a bit of a shock to the system, being used to playing HOPA and then finding myself several hours into a game and no tangible end in sight. But if you change your mindset and accept you are playing a different kind of game, and slip into the feel of it - you will be more than satisfied. I finished it in 17 hours, which isn't too bad.
I haven't got any experience to benchmark this against, other than old RPG PC games back in the 80s and 90s I used to play, so am giving it a solid average score. I liked it a lot, but saw lots of things that I would have wanted to work differently. It looks like it has been around for several years already, so I would assume follow on later games would be offering a lot more (which I need to check out).
Although there is no map in the game, you can get maps and also hints from the OverCloud9 and BigFish forums. These turned out to be invaluable as aids to the game, and without them I would not have had as good an experience.
It took me a while to figure out, that SHIFT makes you walk waaaaay faster, or that you can set your character to 'Auto-dash' which I would recommend setting up straight away.
I would have preferred the battles to go quicker, for me it took far too long to watch messages of everyone's actions and reactions and ... ZZzzzzzz....
You can always 'escape' from battles, which is a good time saver in the game. Because once you get past a certain level you don't need xpxpxp and you can get on with the story line. In this game I had no need to go pure dungeon bashing to get xp to level up to do the stuff I wanted at the time, which is an excellent balance for a game to find (well done)
The character interactions were always entertaining, sometimes a bit OTT, but still enjoyable and added vastly to the humor and feel of the game.
In short - a pleasant RPG game with entertaining story line, and good game play and characters. Thank you for making it OverCloud9.
For those who usually HOPA, check out the demo first to make sure you are not too shocked!
I recommend this game!
