If you are new to these types of HO games, then this is a very nice and gentle game with lots of atmosphere, and good variation on difficulty of puzzles. Definitely a nice change from all the dark games out there, and a story line that can be related to.
However, if you are an intermediate player or beyond, it is likely this game will not feel challenging enough or long enough. Within the first 10 minutes of playing you already have an idea of what the conclusion of the game will be. Also it is a relatively short game. Certainly the right length for this story, as they couldn't possibly make it longer without becoming overly contrived.
On a personal level, I kind of want more 'bang for my buck' however I do recognise that this will probably be a longer game for newbies and it is a nice little find.
To sum up: Nice for newbies. For intermediates and onward, you will likely want more. Nice gentle game.

To quote from the game description: "If you like games like Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, and Dragon Warrior, you are going to love Aveyond." And it is pretty much on the mark.
The reason I say that, is because of the amount of dungeon bashing you have to do in order to xp and level up in order to be strong enough to kill the next demon. (Like in FFantasy games) Hence the long number of hours of game play, which will be taken up xp-ing. If this is the type of game you like, then this will fit the bill perfectly. For players that need faster moving story lines to maintain their interest, you may struggle with this aspect of the game. It's a preference thing.
The speed and movement in the game is slick and simple, and the combat is fast compared to similar games. I enjoyed the dialog sequences expanding the story further, which especially at the start help to create that initial connection with the main character.
This game has maps you can pick up making the game feel manageable without the need to refer to internet external sources to figure out where to go.
There are excellent online forums and walkthroughs, for when you do need that extra bit of help or guidance.
To summarize: A fun RPG game where you can chill, kill and adventure to your hearts content. But not for those who are not keen on dungeon bashing being the primary source of game play hours.
Nice game - thanks!

If you are a newbie to Time Management games like myself, you can't go wrong buying this game. I got so hooked... So much so, that I have played through the night until 6 am. For 2 consecutive nights. Ridiculous!
From the demo video I thought the game looked a bit "meh", however this game had very useful and comprehensive reviews (Thanks fellow BF-ers who write useful reviews!).
The story is simple enough: rebuild a route through the kingdom across 4 islands, clearing obstacles, in order to create said path. There is a good learning curve and appropriate level of difficulty increase.
Each level is one screen (no scrolling about). With up to 3 workers, you need to find resources or make buildings to create them, in order to enable workers to dig through wood, ice and rock obstacles and create the path out. Each level is timed, and it takes quite some strategy as well as time management skills in order to complete a level.
If you complete a level before the time runs out, you progress. However if you also complete it before nightfall, you build up your castle. Castle building is not critical to completing the game, but it is so easy to get sucked into wanting to pass in expert time for that next piece. In my case I found myself replaying a passed level over and over. And over. And over... So many hours.... Addictive.
I haven't played a game that has sucked me in this much, for such a very long time. Highly enjoyable. I don't have other TM games to compare with, so the overall 4* and not 5. (I need somewhere to go if I play a better one!!)
So to sum up: A newbie friendly strategic time management game, with highly addictive game play.
Cheers to the Creators!
I recommend this game!

Simple, cheesy, straightforward fun. You are a manufactured blob and eat "things" smaller than you in order to get bigger and mightier within a certain time limit. All to a background track of 70s elevator music or other cheesy tunes.
The game feels like a phone or touch screen game. Where you move yourself ("the blob") around the screen to absorb various objects and not touch things that will hurt you - until you are big enough to eat them. Oh yes. Never have I cursed at dolphins so much, and then cackled with glee when I was big enough to eat them. Loads of fun!
I played on the laptop and switched between touchpad and mouse button depending on how responsive and quick I needed the blob movements to be. Sometimes you need to be a little slower in order to attain your edible objective.
The main driver to the game, is wondering what the next environment will be and what you will be eating. All leading towards a satisfying conclusion that fits the game perfectly.
You can play the game straight, or play different modes e.g. endurance mode. Playing the demo will provide you with a good indication of whether or not you will like this game.
Very simple, amusing, addictive, non complicated fun - all driven by the power of "Mouse wiggling"!
I recommend this game!

Adventure game with no HO - which would be appealing if there was any interesting plot or game play.
I bought this because I like adventure games and wanted a break from HO. There were so many rave reviews, but I wish I had started from the poor reviews first: eye opening.
This game is jarring on so many levels.
Set in England? Yeah right... Yellow American school buses, US road signs saying 'route 999', steering wheels and driving on the wrong side, architecture which feels American, not an English accent in sight, no school uniforms or children remotely dressed as though for school.
Did I have to walk to and fro and to and fro and to and fro? Yes and it drove me bonkers.
Any problems with the game? It seems resource heavy on my laptop and not as responsive as other games which have better game play and graphics. Also it crashed part way through. Opening / closing the story book was a bit slow.
Did it feel spooky? No. Not helped by poor dubbing of actors, poor casting, poor scenery which did not feel school-like, and monsters that looked a bit 'arcade-like' with brash colours and pointy teeth.
Storyline? The start of the game feels rushed and only makes sense if you read the journal to pad out the beginning of the story. And the end? Well, if you have the standard edition you are going to get a short abrupt ending which hits you like a slap in the face. The end. At least with CE you get to play out a bit more of a story. However, by this point you want the game to end, but feel obliged to play because you've spent extra on the CE....
Did I care what happened? Not really.
Who do I think will like this game? Peeps who are not so much into storyline and just want an adventure game of medium difficulty. If that is all you want, then this will fit the bill. If you are someone like me who is more story line driven, I'd recommend you give this a miss.
How on earth is this getting 5 stars from people ...? Maybe they need to play more games for a more balanced comparison?
I don't recommend this game.

Looking for something a bit spooky with an engaging story line, that won't take up too much time? This ticks the box.
Immediately when you start this game, the muted colours of the artwork and unobtrusive sounds, effectively set the eerie mood of the world you are entering. Which is a world of haunting children, clowns, magic and voodoo dolls - a good freaky mix. With an ending scene which is not disappointing and worthwhile getting to the end for.
The game play and navigation was quick and responsive (unlike another game I tried to play recently, so I have to comment positively on this.)
When solving the game objectives, the items/ codes you need are never too far away, so not much too-ing and fro-ing. When playing, if you make click errors you don't get penalties, but the text that appears adds to the sense of urgency, that you have to hurry up to save Sam! I quite liked this unexpected prompt to stop messing about with strange object combinations that in the back of my head I knew really wouldn't work (well all do it ;) I half expected the game to make Sam more worse for wear dependent on the number of click errors I made. That doesn't happen, but it made my imagination work overtime!
The HO games and objects, felt in context with the theme of the game. Very clear and straightforward to complete. Nothing too strenuous. You do return to some of the HO piles, but not to a great degree.
I would score this game another star if it were a bigger and longer game. It took about 2-3 hours of leisurely play for me to complete. Other reviews report shorter times. For me, adding extra puzzles and areas in order to stretch the game out, would have made me switch off from caring what happens in the story. So the story for me was well paced.
If you're looking for a short sharp blast, that sucks you in and spits you out, ready for more adventures (especially if you haven't played in a while). Then this is a worthwhile credit spend. Enjoy.
I recommend this game!

An easy, linear game, where you bring your band back together for a battle of the bands, in order to win that contract and make it big. Not much more than that really.
I'd give this game a 55% rating. I am finding it hard to star rate this game, as it is not to the standard of game I've given 3* to in the past, but no where near as bad as the 'dislike' 2*'s I've given in the past for games I considered truly dire, but was too kind to give a 1* to.
Pros:
- Nice tutorial start
- Good shortcuts: Space = walk faster, x2 click =go to other room immediately if you've been there before, Enter = flags actionable items/areas. All good for game speed.
- Mini games: e.g. a HO to find pieces of objects followed by a puzzles to put those pieces together, shooting bugs representing computer viruses before they infect a machine completely, hitting areas of the screen where notes appear when a guitar is played, etc... Not hard games, but were nice to play.
- The voice acting, in the main, is really very good and convincing. One of the best features of the game; though you can skip through conversations if you like (bottom left 'Next' button).
- It took 3-4 hours to complete in one sitting, which felt like the right length of time for this game.
- For all the cons I list below - the game play-ability is pretty okay. I was not thinking 'where is the end?' and did enjoy the game. I certainly don't feel cheated for buying it.
Cons:
- The main character's voice bugged me. It sounded a bit like Leila from Futurama but not quite. (Subjective opinion, other people might like it).
- Not enough mini games, it felt quite a lot like "fetch" at times.
- Characters were stereotypes with no additional fleshing out. A shame.
- There is a manager who gets "bleeped" out a lot whilst ranting at you. Funny, but just letting you guys know in case you are sensitive to that kind of thing.
- Very linear: No branching in game play or in conversations. you are only ever going to be doing one thing or responding in one way to get to the next step.
- To pick up an object is not a simple double click. You click then select the pick-up icon: inefficient.
- Not enough puzzles or mini games, and the ones which did exist were nice, but too easy.
- The band music sucked. It made me groan and laugh at the end. Cheesy teeny type rock, Not epic or hard at all :)
If you like stories about Rock bands, and want an easy straightforward game, this would be an alright purchase.

A cute-sy game that draws you in with it's simplicity and humor, giving lots of hours of fun.
The premise is that in order to leave the island where you crash landed, you have to help the islanders by giving them objects you find/ grow/ make, accompanied by a faithful animal companion who can climb, dig and charm other animals into dropping goodies.
I bought it after only 15 mins of demo, knowing I was hooked already. It took 3 solid evenings of playing for 4-5 hours at a time to complete.
It is really not a hard game at all. But a nice brain resting game that you can play whilst watching the TV - clicking here and there to walk about and collect items.
There is a lot of 'wandering', indicated in the title, but the fact that everywhere there is some dig/climb/charm action you can be doing, even if you have passed that way before.; and that the island is split into 2 small manageable parts to which you can teleport to the center of each at any time - makes it a pleasure to walk about.
That the tasks are repetitive (go fetch/make etc) you don't notice or care so much, because: you unlock different parts of the island to explore and get new inventory, you have to grow different items, you so want to see what the characters will do/say/dress up in, next. The interactions between the islanders, makes you WANT to complete the quests to see what funny responses you are going to get.
The game makes things as simple as possible to track what you are doing or need to do/collect in a task bar. Which also provides object creation shortcuts for a quest items - meaning you can focus on playing rather than writing a 'todo' list for the game.
If you are feeling whimsical, you can change your wardrobe according to what you can make. I don't normally care at all what my characters are dressed in, and just want to complete quests. But when I got a pattern for a wedding dress. I couldn't resist. And then when I could make Greek Armor and wear it with Space Wings... Irresistible and quite snazzy!
If you want something that is not overly taxing, engaging and hours of fun, this will do nicely. A hidden gem.
I recommend this game!

This is an incredibly beautiful game, which makes you feel like you are watching a lovely children's tv animation, that you can at times interact with - which is a good thing, and also a bad thing.
To start with I was I enthralled by the sequences of movement following an action, whether it was playing with the plant life in a scene, or moving to a new location, or pouring liquid into something else. But after a while you feel like you are watching, rather than playing the game, which gets a bit wearing when you want to be 'doing' or 'puzzling', not watch your character walk through tunnels or up a hill (again)... So in that respect the play-ability levels for me are not optimum.
Game time it took about 2.5 hours to complete. Mainly because of one scene, where I had to be stood somewhere specifically for an action icon to appear on an item. I was already out doors, and both the correct and incorrect areas were not near X object. All I am saying is, don't be on the taxi ... (Not giving anything away!)
For this amazing concept, environment, sounds, artwork, mood, music... Wow. There are not enough stars on the BF scales for me to laud this game enough. It is truly, truly incredible.
I most definitely will be looking to play more Amanita Design games. And interested to see whether the play-ability and emotional investment in the storyline, is increased in Samorost 3 when it is released.
If you have a free credit, I would recommend it's use here, even for such a short game. It's worthwhile to experience and wonder at this game and where it will go in future.
I recommend this game!

A very short, fairytale, fantasy, adventure romp.
Game wise, I was sucked in by the demo - for immediately setting the mood so quickly for a cosy adventure, and the first set of puzzles being intriguing and not what I expected.
Look and feel:
Fairy tale book type of artwork - completely suits the theme of the game. The Baron, I was pleased to find, did not disappoint this lady gamer; with his flair for the extravagant, in both commentary and ways out of tricky situations. The voices in general completely suited the game. Villains should indeed sound 'villainy' so we know they are baddies!
Puzzles and play-ability:
Thoroughly enjoyable and absorbing.
- HOS that require association to objects in a side bar e.g. you have a lily pad, and you look in the picture to see what goes with that... A Frog!
- Finding objects in the game scenery in general was well incorporated into the game. And I liked the fact you needed to scroll left and right sometimes to slightly change the viewing angle to see some objects better. I am soooo glad there was a hint button though!
- Games where you figure out placement of objects you've collected; and applying them in a scene where "something" will play out. If your objects are in the right place, then, Hey presto! You escape out of a whale, or chase an Eagle off a GIANT coin! Woo!
Duration:
- I played for 3-4 hours. Which is not very long really.
-It is a thoroughly enjoyable game, and at the end when it says "Do I want to save another Kingdom?" I thought "Yes! This is just one chapter of many..." and then wailed at the screen when I realized it was not. Please can you make such good games longer.
Baron M - the adventure was too short, and you left me wanting more... But how can I not like a game, which has a place called "Cheese Island" in it! So, 3 happy stars!
