Cartoon-style but clear graphics with lots of HO scenes and some fix-this-to-do-that parts.
Some things are difficult to find and the hint doesn't always help.
Managed to get to the forest - chapter 2 - just, so spent most of the demo at the house packing up etc..
This will definitely appeal to kids - adults might get annoyed quite quickly by the characters and music/sound.
Reasonable fun concept - although I didn't get too far - no idea how long the game lasts. Got stuck on attic window (some scenes have tasks that you must complete to progress). Finally realised (after hint was no help whatsoever - it pointed to the shut chest which had already been utilised and closed [forever]), that the irregular pane of glass was hanging in the light string....???????? I was looking for a large pane - it's only a small one!!!
Also took a while to realise that I had the front door key after setting the alarm - you must lock the front door again!
Otherwise, fairly simple game with colourful graphics. I would recommend trying it out and see for yourself. It's fairly mindless really - give your brain a rest. Recommend for kids and adults seeking a low-key fun game.
I recommend this game!

Based o the demo only...
Intriguing plot - girlfriend/wife(??) frozen and kidnapped by ice monster thing in front of your eyes (and husband/fiance/friend). Problem though is that there is no voice-over and a lot of text which is quite small and sometimes indistinct. The HO scenes also have quite small text. My screen is not tiny though - 21" - maybe I'm just getting old.....
No map - so game is very linear but you have to go back an forth a number of times to clear the puzzles(?? how else to describe them?- tasks, things to complete etc..)
Annoying things (apart from the lack of voiceover which would have enhanced the game no end and lots of small text), you don't keep things which are very useful. For example, right at the start you open (or slit) your gf's purse and extract her card and present; this present is a swiss army knife- great you think essential ammunition in a world with few tools laying around. But no- gasp, horror - you use it once and lose it! It was a gift from your bff and you've lost it already! Likewise, you find and use a torch (flashlight for the uninitiated) and then lose that too... why? My instinct would be a hang onto to those useful things for the entire process, especially the penknife as it is a gift from your beloved who you are trying to rescue....... Ah the vagaries of the HO adventure game strike again!
Puzzles not very difficult to work out. But the content makes the game too creepy for less than teenagers.
Undecided as to whether this is worth the cash/money/spondoolicks/bread/dough etc..maybe a coupon game?
A good effort which could be made so much better- voice-over and clearer larger text would elevate this game into the definitely buy for money category.
Give it a try and see for yourself.
I recommend this game!

Another in the Valjean/Alice genre - however this one wasn't quite so bad.... maybe I'm getting used to the handholding and lack of options.
Arrows replace bubbles this time as directional indicators - more interesting plot but no voiceover so loads of dialogue ensues with characters leaping forward but somehow remaining in the background too - strange! Then lots of words, word and words.... And you have to read them too!
Handholding ...mmm! This is problematic as although it is very linear and you seem to get pointed in the direction during scene changes, when you encounter a puzzle the handholding ceases completely or is very vague. Try assembling the metal thing and see ... took me a while to work out which piece to attach to whatever just to get started on the puzzle.
Music options on/off - rather repetitive - although it does change for time to time - all the HO scenes I encountered in the demo had X-files-like music.
Sound on/off only
Challenge - seems ok - not especially hard allowing for the vague instructions on some puzzles.
Somehow less annoying than the other two games but still undecided as to whether this is worth paying for.....
Other contributors have covered the plot more than adequately.
Unlikely to spend money on it... maybe use a coupon... maybe not!

This is very similar to Gardenscapes 1,2 and more alike to Gardenscape 3 - Mansion makeover.
Played the demo version only - if you liked the other gardenscapes then you'll like this as not much has changed - different scenario; female writer buys old manor house, finds it is dilapidated and sells stuff from rooms to get money to refurnish and repair house.
However, this is collectors edition and that's where it lost 2 stars. Why pay twice as much for very little extra?
Personally, I liked the quirky scenario and the different puzzles . Most of the scenes are find required items in a room for cash either untimed or against the clock. Hint available as are camera and themometer hints eventually; although there is an arrow hint as well- points in the direction of the item. Each extra hint, camera etc you have to find in the HO scene if it is there.
You earn more on the clock as unused time gains extra coins with which to refurnish your manor house.
Occasional puzzles to solve which tend to be hardly challenging. Otherwise it's a fun game.
Cannot recommend as a CE though - wait for the SE.

Obviously the same bunch of jokers that developed Les Mis, reviewed earlier.
Sound - on/off- music on/off - no other options or level of difficulty- why? Music goes off very quickly as it becomes irritating within a very short space of time. The music on the first HOP rises to a crescendo then starts again..... music off!
The facts under the smily cat faces are interesting but not enough to assuage the mind-numbing annoying rest of the game.
Cartoon style graphics which are fairly bright. Annoying purring cheshire cat in a lot of scenes.
Same problems as with Les Mis, must close windows even to get an object. Click and drag for an object to use it.
HOP scenes - oh my goodness - some of the items are sooooo small or outlines or obscured so much they are difficult to find and the player blunders from one HOP to another in a very short time. This becomes irritating very quickly - so much so I didn't finish the demo on this one. It was too much like Les Mis with all the same faults that the enjoyment is sucked straight out of the game and flushed down the proverbial toilet.
There is no way I can recommend this game to anyone - certainly totally unfit for children and adults alike.
Big Fish - what are you doing? Tilt - Game deleted.

Oh dear. Where shall we start?
High expectations soon dashed
No level to choose - options, read on...
Music - either on or off - no separate volume control Gets very annoying after a while so turned off. Would like the option to set to lower volume without losing other sounds.
Sound- likewise - either on or off. After hearing the trading conversation for the twentieth time (do you want a whole one? No, I just want some change!) and the moans of the injurted priest even after he is healed, the sound off could be a good option too!. No voice over so you have to read all the dialogue.
Graphics - OK quite clear and colouful for the most part. But why is the broken cart still there days later and the priest still moaning as though he is still under the cart? As you have to traverse this section many times, it gets frustrating to hear the same soundtrack and see the same graphics as the original scene! Did no-one in France clear up accident damage?
HO scenes - sometimes very easy, other times extremely difficult as dusty dark cupboards make identifying small objects very hard. Also no help on what some of the objects are- a hint on what you might be looking for with some items would be really helpful ( description or outline of item would improve this game no end). The hint just shows you where it is and sometimes I clicked on the area with no idea what the object was - it was click and hope a lot of the time. What is a clockard?
Plot line follows the Les Mis story I guess. Was hoping the music would be good but it was too annoying and repetitive. Just got too frustrated at the lack of finesse in the game, it seemed like someone had an idea and rushed it out rather than thinking about it and developing a good game. Need to use hints to get next action often as no tasks options available. Sometimes the next action is telegraphed and other times you wonder what you are supposed to be doing. Using inventory - have to drag object to correct part of scene to use. Why not have click and pick up then clck and drop like other good games? To get obects (from HO scenes) you have to close the window...seems rather clumsy to me. Why not have a collect or pickup button?
I cannot recommend it unless you really like annoying music, sound and frustrating HO scenes.
I don't recommend this game.

Ths review is based on the demo only
The start was poor - cars in England driving on right - repeated in the flashback to the lord's accident. Accents - oh dear - terrible attempt. Scene one Police van with obvious left hand drive- a basic lack of attention to detail!
Other than that - spot morphing obects to get extra hints (appears to be one per scene) and collect parts of a painting which when all parts found fits together in a jigsaw and makes a part of a larger painting.
Mainly find objects and HO areas with puzzles thrown in for good measure.
Plot - disappearing people in eerie castle with ghost-like figures and flaming knights and wolves(??). In the demo version, you have to navigate the castle etc.. and find the locket. This is just part one of many - didn't count how many paintings you have to complete - there were 8 parts in the one painting for the demo.
Slightly disappointed at the awful accents and sloppy errors, hence only 4 stars.
Not sure whether this is worth the extra for a CE rather than wait for the SE. There just seems to be a bonus game and maybe the morphing objects as extra to the CE as the gallery appears to be integral to the game.
I recommend this game!

Played the demo - seem to remember a trial version of this. Some changes but the basic premis remains the same. Too linear for my liking to be worth the extra as a CE. Plot involves revenge for jilted love and rescue of a fiancee which was ok but seemed somehow to be rather tame. There is something about this game that is not quite up to scratch (ermine related joke- ha). I may buy as an SE with a credit but otherwise - no.
Try the demo and see for yourself
I don't recommend this game.

I reviewed this as a trial and panned it because it was awful. It isn't much better now.
Some improvements - plane is now jet from light aircraft but still kept same sound.....??
More HOS but rather unnecessary, don't you think?
Chracaters slide in and out like shadow theatre board objects.. no voice-over so you have to read everything.......zzzzzzzz
It's all about Dec 2012, will the world end - well, yes it did?? Ha! But now there might be a mystery to uncover instead.... ho hum- sorry really not that interested. Poorly devised and poorly executed, the game is really one for the discard bin... It is old in concept and time and very badly deliverd to the consumer.
Do not waste your credits or freebies on this . It really isn't worth it.
If you want to try it for yourself, be warned.......
I don't recommend this game.

When you first play this game, you might think that it's a child's game as it seems rather easy. However, it soon adds levels of difficulty to make it harder to complete each successive level.
I played on the relaxed timing level because I prefer to take my time to seek out solutions rather than rush into it. I imagine that the timed version of the game will have you replaying levels to try to progress.
Essentially it's a match 3 game with a few HO puzzles thrown in - these aren't standard HO though - they require you to find objects of the same type hidden in the picture and some are quite obscure.
Story - well not much to be honest - ghosts need a town to live in - you play the game and the puzzles to earn coins with which to build objects, infrastucture etc. Hardly new or innovative. The kids will like the fact that the characters (although only five of them) each make a noise when clicked with the mouse. Getting a combination of noises by quickly clicking on them is quite fun!
Fun - yes it is - even for adults.
Challenge - requires some thinking - children might like the graphics and noises but the challenge might be too much for younger ones. I only played the demo but the level of difficulty meant that the last levels I played had a lot of different objects to overcome to complete the level. Things like blocks that can only be removed by getting bombs or a match of six to remove them or coins that need to be cooled by matching raindrops near them before that can be removed from the game.
Visual/sound - it is cartoon quality and music isn't great but it is good enough.
