First, I only played the demo. I have played past games exactly like this, they could have been the earlier games in the series, and they were just all right, as in something to do while I wait for much better games to come out. This one seems to be all about cities so far and I have lived in American major cities all my life, kind of don't need to play games in more cities--cities that are just a static picture. My pros are: the HOG pictures are a lot sharper than in the past which really helps, hate fuzzy, hazy, pixelated pictures. The between puzzles are the standard kind always used but at least now there is a "Skip" button above the puzzle, you don't have to out to wherever to skip a puzzle. The game blurb says "islands and other locations" and the creators ought to have used a lot of those to hook you in since America is far more than just big cold cities. I am not going to buy it or spent any "free game" credits on it, it's just not riveting to hold your attention for very long and it gets tedious very fast.
The hidden objects puzzles are pretty basic, not as sharp as I'd like them but they aren't bad. I liked going to various lovely places, loved that there were the "bonus" cats (no bonus though). The puzzles between the HOPs were doable and not too tedious, kind of felt they were more aimed at children but that's okay. I wasn't expecting a mental challenge here, just something light and gentle since there have been and still are too many real life challenges these days. It's a rather short game compared to a lot of others I'm still working on.
It's much like the recent past Roads of Rome in its various names. I always play in Relaxed mode since I don't need any stress and pressure, also gives me time to hover around looking for those hidden caches.
If you've played the Cruise Director series before, this is along the same lines. It seems longer than than the usual though--a good thing. I always play not-timed since I'm supposedly on vacation, no pressure and stress. It's good to see the same couples again too, same crew. And you get to take another kind of ship, a train, and go to a lot of different places. Got to collect trash (why are people so messy?) and special items. It's not going to demand too much from you. I enjoyed this one too.
I generally like TM games but this one was just tiresome and I actually nodded off once of twice. There's no personality to any of it, nor the characters unlike many other TM games. I didn't even like the design choices you can make in improving/repairing the mansion with the money you make. I did play it through because I have replayed all the TM games I already own and was hoping this would be at least distracting but it was merely a sleep aid.
I confess I got tired of waiting for BFG to come out with this game so I bought it back in April from another game site (cheap) and played it 3 times, getting worse each time. I never learn, just make new mistakes. The game is along the same lines as the first 3, nice old timey houses and roads, animals to hunt, fish to catch. They've improved the ways you can get more heart stamina and wood. But animals and berries and things don't renew as in the older games. I did prefer this story as opposed to the damsels in distress, especially that last one with the overblown blonde princess, I did not like her at all. She's gone, replaced by a much more compatible side kick although I think they could have utilized that person a bit more than they did; hope that person continues to be in the next installments, would be nice to see our hero having an ongoing relationship with someone. It is shorter than the previous games but hopefully this is the first installment of several more. I needed to be able to step into this other more natural world during the early weeks of this pandemic since I was stuck inside at home 24/7 so this came along just in time. I have bought the BFG one now too just to have it in my purchase list so it's easy to find.
I needed something like this since I'm kind of sick of replaying (for the 50th time) my other TM games. You get the same sort of game play as the previous Rescue Teams, you can "buy" enhancements once you save enough points, you can collect stamps or trophies. I got stuck on some of the levels and had to replay them, chose the wrong thing to build or to use my supplies on which left me dead in the water but that's okay, I play in the "relaxed" mode. I'll play this a few more times, might even try it in multi-click mode if I feel up to he challenge.
but with added things to do that didn't add to anything. If you click on some of the trees, they pop out bird bodies, some of the palm trees will lose all their fronds. Some of the sheep take a trip to the moon, some of the flowers disintegrate. And you can still click on the flying birds although I didn't pay attention to whether they added points of not. A few of the hidden "tiles" were difficult to find, even on the 3d go round. And I actually needed the indicators to find the hidden tiles on several levels (the flag leaves it vague enough so it's not an instant giveaway). There 12 Labor games are not my most favorite of the TM games but they are fun and this one is too.
It's fun, although ol' Herc doesn't do all that much. There are puzzle tiles but many of them are very well hidden, some under water so you really have to look for the shape and the "H". You can still kill birds to get extra points. And now some of the flowers and bushes are extinguishable although I don't know if you gain anything by doing so. It's not the most challenging game available but it's at that Hercules level of challenge. And there are those "run faster" and "respawn (make things renew faster) buttons to collect. Nice to have a new TM game while I wait for my favorites to show up, just bought the CE too.
My own family is scatters all around the world now so we don't get to celebrate as a family anymore, so this game has become my new Christmas treat. I get to see what that family is up to, watch the kids NOT age, there's snow which I don't even have to deal with. I have never lived anywhere like this perfect little town. i sorely missed this game company's Halloween game since they either didn't put one out or BFG didn't offer it so i'm glad there's Christmas. Yea, it's basically the same stuff as for the past 10 years but it's cozy and familiar and has all the bells and whistles I want for Christmas--decorated trees, winter sports, the smell of baking (ok, they can't do that yet but I'm sure someday they will). Gets me into that ol' Christmas spirit and out of my humbug doldrums.
