Although this particular installment may be among the least good out of the dozen or so very, very well-made Emily games, its still an excellent game overall.
If you have never tried this series, I absolutely, 100% passionately suggest doing so. If less than thrilled with the game & story in Emily's True Love, fear not! Because all of the characters & their lives intertwine from game to game, you'll still be glad to have played this & caught a glimpse into their world. But it really is a decent one, even if not the best.
I gave it one star instead of 0 because of the nostalgia factor and, well, because 0 stars is not an option. Through Smoothie Standoff, I was able to reminisce about the computer games of the late 80s and their complete lack of ...no, wait. Games back then, while lacking in technical precision, had to rely on their creativity & fun and this game has neither.
I just played 20 some minutes of the demo of this & I have to say that disappointment would be a step up from what I am feeling. I'm not happy that a game of such poor caliber was given the chance to make it this far in the retail world while there are independent game developers who pour their lives into making quality games that don't seem to get this chance. This is a 0 out of 5.
Princesses have a tendency to be kidnapped, and a service for lost royals is in high demand. Start your own Lost Princesses Agency and find your one and only!
I have played many dozen a TM game and have only come across perhaps 5 that I didnt like - all of which were truly lousy games that should not have even made it as far as professional publication. The MKFTP series is a well-established one with many fans, so I'm guessing this particular installment wasnt put through much (if any) QA and boy does it show.
1. Playing this game I experienced actual motion sickness for the 1st time in my extensive game-playing life. And ironically, I had been playing on the Wii all week before this, with no such issue.
2. Picking up items was tedious! On the 5th or 6th level I was kinda getting irked - by the 15th, woe to the man who annoyeth me right now!
3. There are consummable bonuses to use but hazards (dragons....maybe something else, I just dont care lol... which show up while bonuses are activated, causing the time to be lost & bonuses wasted.
As if that were not annoying enough, hazards must be clicked many, many times. Resources must be collected 3 times apiece - or was it 500?
But wait, there's more!! In addition to all of the above, MKFTPIV is actually extremely repetitive and the sounds grating to the nerves. As many players do, I keep the music turned down in most games but I Always have the sounds on, otherwise things could get boring & guess who's back in this game? That guy....with the voice. Yeah. Him!
I could not make it through the full trial. There are several very well-established, excellent, re-playable games in the TM category & I'd suggest to a prospective player to seek out those while avoiding this like the plague.
I played Egyptian Settlements 2 last week & again today, hoping that the fresh outlook of a new day & some progression in the game would give me new insight. That did not happen. I Loathe this game - thats weird. I've played games before & been annoyed or disinterested but I dont recall ever having felt so negatively about a PC or Mac game before until now! It just ticks me off that in a game with such non-intuitive movements & direction, there are zero instructions, among several other things. The very little that I was able to accomplish in an hour of playing was frustrating & miserable. I was actually considering buying just to see if I could overcome the obvious design flaws of the game but I think I'll hold onto my money.
In Delicious: Emily's Home Sweet Home, you need to help the O'Malleys repair their dream house. Can you make it a real home? Hurry up, or it might be condemned!
As with every single last game in this whole large series, Home Sweet Home is just too good to pass up.
Well, whenever I cannot wait for Big Fish to get a game in this series, I end up purchasing it elsewhere - what is ending up happening is that I'm spending far over-budget to rebuy them as CEs from BFG because they're just so great!!! Also because I have been preferring as of late to have all of my eggs in one basket. After 9 years or so of collecting these PC & Mac games, my collection has grown exponentially & its easier to do it this way.
Absolutely an excellent game all around. Characters, setting, gameplay itself, ALL of it - just great.
I am here to write this review while the excitement of the game's end is still fresh in my mind. And what excitement it is!! I dont know what to say. The 1st game was good - it needed some work in a few areas but it was *quite* unique & just really detailed & enjoyable.
Then along comes The Island Castaway 2 & it leaves me with more than one sleepless night! The story is there, the characters are awesome & I could not get enough of them. Then, as fate would have it the amazing story ended in a cliffhanger. I was desperately looking for more - more discoveries, more building, more gardening, fishing & hunting & now am left with nothing but the feeling of having to let something loved go, but happy to have ever known it in the 1st place. I am ABSOLUTELY going to beg the devs to not quit on it. I fear they have crossed over to other series I'm so worried!
All of the other Monument Builders games were a hit. Then something happened, resulting in this flop. I suggest that anyone, especially anyone who has control over releasing a patch for MB: Big Ben read the comments on the BF forums regarding this game because it is very annoying.
1st, it may be just me but I found the sounds intolerable. Yes, that bad. It is very like having a Salvation Army bell ringer standing next to you for interminably long periods - I don't enjoy playing a game on mute so I have to choose between being harangued by the ringing every 3-5 seconds vs. just no sound at all. Neither is a good option.
2nd: Like the other MB games, there are the ruby gems but unlike the others, there apparently is 0 use for them! What the heck? Basically they're things you earn atop points, onl looks like the creators forgot to include an actual purpose for them!
3rd: The timer is a bit unrealistic - other players have described it as totally unforgiving & I think I may agree with that but I really should go back to a few to retry. but that depends upon how the rest of the game goes, however if there are no improvements to make & no use for those rubies then whats the point? As of now I am roughly 25 levels in.
I love TD games & I was excited to see this, since for some reason there's been a glut of awful games making their way to Big Fish lately & I had hoped this would not be another one. I held out hope because I had not (until now# ever played a poor Tower Defense. But alas! I tried to play Iron Heart #obligatory 2 part name) for 15 minute stretches over a period of a few days, each time hoping I'd get into it & enjoy or that something would improve but no.
The graphics are extremely annoying, the pace, not good...the towers are set at silly intervals & places & the items and spells & whatnot are just not doin' it. No no no.
Bring us more QUALITY games! They are out there!!! They're there. I swear they are. Why aren't they making their ways to here?
This game is the best!! I had no idea what I was in for when I installed the demo, but buy about the 15th minute I knew this was a "buy".
There will be other people who can describe the mechanics of gameplay better than I could, but I just want to urge anyone who likes TM games & who enjoys a (very) well-developed, written & thought out game to give this a shot.
I just discovered its made by the same people who make the Delicious games, which has been my utter obsession the past 4-5 months. At least now I don't have to feel bad about liking a game even more than I like 1 or 2 in the Delicous/Emily series!! Very, very highly recommended.
This game has crossed the line between enjoyably challenging and so absurdly difficult that it has probably not been well-made.
Some other reviewers mentioned The Successors Path being hard right on level 2, but did not specify that it continues to remain that difficult, or harder! Its just not reasonable. I will break it down thusly:
Time to Achieve Gold: 3:00 Time It Takes Me To Achieve Gold: 6:30 Yeah. And I'm basically rather skilled at these sorts of things.
