Review based on trial.
Despite its age, this game is still challenging. The idea is to form horizontal, vertical or diagonal lines of 3 blocks or more of the same color in order to remove them.
Its predecessor, Bloxter, had blocks falling in a 2x2 formation; in Downfall, that's typically not the case: depending on the "game" you choose, blocks are in various configurations, and so are the reactors (some start empty, some do not.)
There are quite a few "reactors" to choose from (a reactor is the arena in which you play, and has characteristics better explained in the "help" section.)
It is however a keyboard-only game, where you use left/right cursor keys to move the formation left or right into the spot you want, the up/down arrow keys to switch the sequence of the blocks within the formation, and the spacebar to drop the formation.
It felt more complicated because there are various block types making the game, to me, less interesting. You get to see what the upcoming formations are so you can (try to) plan ahead.
The mechanics work fine but at some point, it just feels like it's all the same. Try it for yourself, your mileage may vary...
I don't recommend this game.

Review based on the 1 hour trial.
This marble popper game has a few original elements I haven't seen before:
- there are bombs in the chain that you can catch and drop where you want;
- there are reactors on the track that you can use to detonate and destroy marbles in the chain;
- marbles that drop "outside" the chain hurt (temporarily) your holster... so aim carefully!
The game controls are the typical left-click to drop and right-click to swap the marble in your holster. I say "drop" instead of "shoot" because your holster is on top of the screen, not on the bottom as I'm used to. There are 3 difficulty levels, but it will remain with your profile throughout the game; you can of course play with multiple profiles, and each profile has a "save slot".
I liked the visuals, the tracks are varied and have various helpers and obstacles. The boosters must be caught by your holster before you can use them. The marble colors are very clear.
Try it as I believe there are hours of fun within this one!
I recommend this game!

Review based on the 1 hour trial.
Despite its age (mid 2000's), the graphics in this game are just gorgeous.
I spent the first 45 minutes of the demo in the training section: you can train for different "tasks" so that you can not only become familiar with the game mechanics (like aiming, force of throw, spin of throw, sweeping, etc.) but get somewhat accustomed to each of those settings. You have a LOT of options on how you'll be throwing each stone, and 3 options for the sweepers (light, medium, hard).
When you're ready, you have a choice of teams against which you'll be competing.
For those familiar with the sport, I believe this "simulator" is as good as it gets! But you see, I don't play curling. So even though the game pacing seems fine to me, I believe there's a lot of "theory" needed before getting decently adequate in this game.
Try it because if you're either curious about the sport or adept at it, I believe this game will hit the spot, which is why I recommend it. If however you're like me and are not familiar with curling, I think you'll get either frustrated or bored.
I recommend this game!

Review based on the demo.
This is the 3rd game in the series, and unless you've played the 1st "Crazy Machines", you probably will be spending a lot of time getting to understand what the various controls/buttons in the laboratory are for. There is NO TUTORIAL whatsoever, which is a shame as people that like puzzles with elements of physics might pass this game up.
The bulk of the configuration options deals with graphics quality. I left them with their default values and the demo played fine.
The game is about resolving puzzles with the aid of elements given to you. For those unfamiliar with the strategy to use in games like this (especially so you can enjoy the demo!), try the following:
1) trigger the start of the experiment without adding any tool, and see what happens;
2) then add an element, re-start the experiment, and see if it achieves what you were hoping for; if not, tweak your element (position, orientation, replace with a different element, etc.)
3) keep adding 1 element at a time and making adjustments until you reach the experiment's objective
4) move on to the next experiment!
This is a trial-and-error game, and it can get frustrating, especially at the very beginning, until you understand how to interact with the game. A chunk of demo time will be wasted just to understand the mechanics. Hovering the mouse pointer on an object/button will help somewhat, but explanations would be better.
I liked the fact that the puzzles were varied (I completed only 4 of the 101 in the 1-hour trial), but this game could seriously benefit from 2 things:
1) Have either an auto-execute demo or a tutorial so players know what to do; too much time spent in getting familiar with the controls.
2) Have a hint system. If you're stuck, you're stuck without the option of moving forward. When (but ONLY when) you're successful with an experiment, you can see the "plan" on what needed to be done (in case there's an alternative solution). I think it would have been GREAT to "auto-fill" the next step with the use of a "hint" button.
Please try the demo... it's an interesting game for those who like to scratch their brain. I do, but not to that extent and because of the lack of help/hint, cannot truly recommend it. I might have been stuck on level 5 forever!
I don't recommend this game.

Despite its age, this game is still challenging. The idea is to form lines of the same color in order to remove the blocks that form them.
Blocks fall in a 2x2 formation, but break apart on contact.
There are quite a few "reactors" to choose from (a reactor is the arena in which you play, and has characteristics better explained in the "help" section.)
It is however a keyboard-only game, where you use left/right cursor keys to move the formation left or right into the spot you want, the up/down arrow keys to rotate clockwise/counterclockwise, and the spacebar to drop the formation.
Addictive with a quick learning curve, and you can choose "puzzle mode" (straightforward) or "arcade mode" which has plenty of power-ups/obstacles as you progress.
However, there are a couple of things I didn't like:
1) the music is very typical of arcade games from the era. I had to turn it off after 5 minutes;
2) like most arcade games, you play until you die and start from the beginning next time around. It's all about getting a highscore, not having "levels" to go through or to resume back to.
Try it and see: it looks similar to a very old and famous game, but it's in fact completely different but I found it as addictive!
I recommend this game!

Review based on the demo.
This match-3 type game has 4 modes, each of which can be played in timed or untimed setting. There is a meter you need to fill up to advance to the next level; if you use the timed setting, there's a countdown clock.
The "classic" mode entails rotating a 2x2 square of blobs to have 3 (or more) blobs of the same color next to each other (but not diagonally). The "relax" mode is the same except you just keep playing and when you meter is full, it gets emptied and you start a new one. You control in which direction your square rotates (left vs right-click means counter-clockwise or clockwise). I didn't like these 2 modes because you have to move the mouse away from your selected square for the action to execute, and you then have to wait until all the blobs disappear (including the resulting cascades) before you can move on to your next action.
The "puzzle" mode entails emptying the grid by removing all blobs.
Lastly, the "Arcade" mode is the one in which I spent most of my demo time; it is a swap mode, but you actually need to click on the 2 tiles you want to swap... no "dragging".
I found the colours too close to each other and they don't use solids, and the "colour-blind" feature in the options menu basically adds a small symbol on the blob, which I found even more confusing to distinguish.
As you can tell, I didn't like this game... try it as perhaps you will. You can resume a game where you left off, but you cannot choose to replay a level... in "timed" setting, it's game over if you don't complete in time.
BFG has, IMHO, dozens of great match-3 games that are so much better than Blobbeez.
I don't recommend this game.

Review based on demo.
This time management game requires both "clicking" and some "dragging" actions.
You (a bird) are responsible for taking care of little birdies in a kindergarten environment: a parent drops off 1 (or more) baby bird and your role is to take care of it by placing (dragging) it in a nest, providing food (clicking on the kitchen where hummingbirds prepare the meals) and water, clicking on it to sing them to sleep, etc. At the end of their stay, which is when all their wishes have been fulfilled, you get to give (drag) them back to a parent that picks the baby up.
The setting of the game is original, the tasks are diverse, but the placement of the mouse click is sometimes a bit finnicky: fortunately, a checkmark appears to show your "click" was successful and you can click-ahead to queue up the next task.
Scoring is based on points, which earn you money, which you can spend on upgrades.
There are 3 difficulty settings (easy, normal, hard) which influence the requirement to advance to the next level.
Try it: it has pretty much the same tasks as other "serving customers" time management games, but in an entirely different/untypical environment, making it different and quite enjoyable!
I recommend this game!

Review based on 1 hour demo using Windows 10.
I like the fact that you can play 4 match-3 game modes:
a) Adventure Quest: typical swap, beat the timer to not lose a life, objectives to complete
b) Miracle Quads: unusual in that you need to create a 2x2 square by swapping matching tiles. No timer, but you need to fill up a meter bar to advance to next level
c) Fable Puzzle: you start with a grid and try to remove all tiles until there are none left
d) Amazing Action: typical swap, fill up the meter bar to advance to next level.
I had no issue with the game mechanics... but in this game, you have to wait until the tiles "drop" before making the next swap. I personally find that distracting/disruptive.
I didn't find the obstacles to be original, but then again this game is about 10 years old. The folks at dayterium have made other "gift" games, and this one is decent but not my favorite.
Try the various play modes to see if 1 (or more!) entertains you. I think it's worth getting if you're running out of choices.
I recommend this game!

Review based on the demo.
You can play the game in 2 modes: the story mode and the "memory" mode; the memory mode adds a level of difficulty because the bubble containing the customer's desired toy eventually changes to a "?" instead of the picture of the toy as visible in "story" mode.
This time management game is a "serving customers" type (as opposed to the "clear-the-path" genre), in this case you serve/box/decorate the gift.
The number of choices starts slowly (a few toys/presents, a couple of paint colors, a couple of accessories, a couple of packaging options) but increases steadily, making an error more likely... especially in "memory" mode.
It looks childish because of the context, but you'll be clicking all over the place to complete the tasks with the right choices.
Despite showing its age, this is an enjoyable and challenging way to spend time if you like the genre. You can also customize an "off-the-shelf" toy that saves you time compared to a "made-to-order" toy.
Try it for yourself: not spectacular, but certainly worthy for the lovers of the genre.
I recommend this game!

This is actually an arcade-type game where your character earns points for gathering candy/bonuses by hitting pinatas while competing with other contestants. You end up traveling from town to town in a competition to defeat other contestants.
I don't want to be too harsh: it's a "click and jump" type that ends up being a frenetic clickfest in a 2-D décor; the graphics are old school cartoons, which I'm sure is deliberate. Unfortunately, sounds and music gets tiresome quickly as the whole soundtrack loops.
Try it for yourself... I stopped playing after 20 minutes as my clicking finger was getting tired. Perhaps a game that should be played in small doses while not being visually captivating.
I don't recommend this game.
