I almost gave up on this game. It was too frustrating. But once I got the hang of it, Zoom Book became one of my favorite puzzle games of all time. The trick is to start on "easy" (You have to set it each time you log in.), and remember that you can put the larger pieces into the smaller spots. Also, after you advance a couple of levels, you can set the game for "Puzzle" mode only. Don't give up! It's worth it! Once you get the hang of it, it's not really that hard at all. It becomes so much fun.
There's a lot a backtracking. The graphics don't seem as crisp in this game as they are in the newer Mystery Tracker games. There's no little dog to help you either. However, it's fun to see how these games progress. There's no map. The hint system tells you where to go versus pointing you in the right direction. Each scene has a title, i.e, basement, and you need to remember how to get there for the hints to be of any use. However, most of the scenes are in a straight line, so it's not too hard to figure out where to go next.
I've really enjoyed playing this series, including this game. I recommend playing this one on casual though --just to keep the backtracking down, unless you're a hard core gamer. If you are, then just go for it. It's fun. Oh yeah, be prepared to get cold with all the ice....brrr.
A murderous figure in a red mask haunts the streets of a small French town, and the mayor needs your help to track him down. But you soon discover that the mysterious Red Masque might not be the real criminal…
I enjoy playing this series. Although not my favorite Dark Tales, this is still a good game to play. Not a lot of bells and whistles, but the game play is smooth, and the HOS/puzzles/adventure are well balanced. HOS is silhouette. Mini-games can be skipped. Ambience and mood are great. The player has to make choices towards the end on how the story ends. Nicely done, but not the best one.
almost too much! The visuals are stunning. The fragmented HOS have a tendency to get a little boring, but they got better as the story progressed.
I don't think the player should be penalized five minutes on the hint button for skipping a mini-game while on "casual," but this game is so well made and original that it's worth playing. However, the hint delay may be disabled in "casual" mode because I had no trouble with the hint recharging.
I think one either loves it, or they don't. This is most definitely a great game IMO, even though the hint system and map could be a little better. All the Dark Parables are good, and this one is no exception.
I recommend this game!

This game may be too easy for some, but I found myself racing through it and thoroughly enjoying the experience. The HOS are the interactive type where each item fits with the next. The hint system is complete with a "jump" map. However, the map is mislabeled: "No current task" and "blocked" need to be switched. Other than that, this game is well made. The visuals are superb and the game play smooth. If you like adventure, then this game is for you. I don't recommend it for the hard core gamers out there, but this game is perfect for a lazy afternoon.
The story started out vague. I kept back tracking to see if I missed anything in regards to the plot. It eventually worked itself out, but for a while all I knew was that I was there because someone's daughter was missing, and I had to piece together who the people were.
. At first, I really didn't pay much attention to the music. All I knew was that it seemed to progress the story nicely. Then I noticed someone vocalizing, and that's when I started paying more attention...the music was very soothing. The HOS were decent, but with all the running around, a jump map would have been nice.
This isn't a bad game, not in the least. But for me, it's not a great game either. It's okay.
I bought this game solely on ratings alone. There were more mini-games than HOGs, and they were all good. The mini-games could be skipped. The story line was good. The graphics were good. The hint system was complete with a "jump" map. I really enjoyed this game, and I recommend it.
I recommend this game!

Nightmares from the Deep: The Siren's Call
Face off against Davy Jones and his nightmares from the deep!
I had a lot of fun playing this one, as well as the first Nightmares. The story is put together extremely well and started pulling me in from the first cut scene. The graphics were colorful and good enough to support the story line. The animations were great. The puzzles and HOS were interesting and well done --not too difficult. I rarely say this, but I'm wishing now that I had gotten the CE instead, not because the SE was lacking in any way, but because this game is that good.
I had an enjoyable Sunday afternoon playing this game. The graphics are superb. The HOS are super easy. All the ice and snow makes this a good one to play in the summertime.
I rarely buy the CE, so the SE needs to hold its own. This one does. The game is long enough. The ending is complete, and collecting coins to upgrade the squirrel's home gives it a CE feel.
From playing other TM games, I basically knew what to do --gather food/resources, etc, but the workers moved so slowly. The game would tell me to gather more food to make them move faster. After a few minutes of super slow workers trying to gather food, I gave up. At one point, I exited and started over, to give this game a chance.
Maybe it's just me. This game seems very interesting, and another reviewer loved it. Give it a try to see what you think.
