Once again another over-priced HOG/ adventure CE game. I expect many will disagree but unfortunately the game is missing the vital components that I expect in any CE game. I am greatly dissapointed as the game does have potential; it appears that the developers have cut corners on game features. However I do applaud them for the stunning graphics and animations which this game does have. The story line is really rudimentary as we have heard it many times before; a town plagued by an evil spirit causing an enormous snow storm, a missing author and a our heroine is out to rescue him. There are three modes of game play, a journal and integrated SG that show 6 chapters along with a bonus game. There is an abundant of HO scenes with some interaction and the basic mini-games which I did not find very challenging. I liked the sceneries and the graphics however the music was extremely monotone. HO scenes were abundant, not overly cluttered and items were easy to find. I played the advanced mode and there were only sparkels for HO scenes. That really is all this game offers; no voice-overs which I find it to be a great shame, no map, no collectables, no achievements and alot of running around, collecting inventory items to use in order to get about. Although the game is visually beautiful, game mechanics were very basic, and lacked any form of challenge whatsoever. I would rather not spend my money on a game that I consider to be an above average SE. Ultimately you will be paying for the extras which include wall paper, screen savers , bonus game play (which I really cant tell you how long it is) and extra HO scenes along with puzzles that are included. Sadly I am unable to recommend this game at this CE price and personnaly, I will wait for the SE version to come out. Cheers
I don't recommend this game.

Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Baskervilles
Charles Baskerville is the latest victim of a centuries-old curse! Help Holmes break the curse before the next murder occurs!
All I will say is you dont have it, get it! Especially today at this price. It is by far one of the top games and a must have. . It has everything that a HOG/Adventure seeker would want. Superb graphic and animation, 3 game play modes, great voice-overs, intriguing story line, challenging mini-games and puzzles, great HOS and best of all, achievement and rewards which adds greatly to re-play value. It is definitely a catch!Seeing it today, I will definitely re-play it tonight. Cheers.
The best way I can describe this game: Not for hard-core gamers like myself. Story line is too familiar, Mom looks for kid's soul that has been stolen by psycho witch. Hmmm, sounds familiar. Lets start with the cons: Although graphics are crisp and bright, animation is rough around the ages and outdate. Game looks old. Music is repetative and sound effects got on my nerve after a while; too much whispering in the back-ground. No voice-over, no map and sadly, one play mode which I think is the downfall of the entire game. I now know what it means to have too many sparkles and too many arrows pointing the way. It feels like I am dragged from one place to another without having any options to explore on my own. Seriously, a game for beginners. Game mechanics involve pop-ups to find missing items along with HOS. As for the Pros of the game: Cute mini-games I havent seen for a while and unfortunately that is it. While this game had great potential of being a good game, it lacks any kind of challenge making it fall flat. Too simple and too dull for my taste, sorry will pass on this. Cheers
What can I say, if you have small kids and want to introduce them to a virtual Easter Egg hunt, this is your game. If you are like me and were waiting for a adventure/IHOG game today, you are out of luck. I lable this: For small kids only!!!! Sorry cannot recommend this game for grown-ups. However, tapping into my inner-child, I can say this: Today's tech savy kids would probably find this game very boring! Mediocre graphics with bright cheerful colors, music is repetative and quite annoying after awhile, sound-effects involve lots of farm-animals making noise, no voice over, no map, no challange, lots of HOS with hidden eggs and bunnies to collect for extra points, very easy mini-games and that is about it! I imagine that toddlers would enjoy this game. I think this one slipped through the cracks......
Being a fan of of the ND series that BFG has offered; I always look forward to a new edition to the series; a recent favorite of mine being Message in a Haunted Mansion. If you are new to the large file games or to the Nancy Drew series, I would recommend you try Secret of Shadow Ranch. Although it is a very old game that was first released in 2004 ( unfortuantely the graphics and annimation show it), I found that the puzzles and minigames are easier to play compared to some of the more complex ND games. The story takes place in Southwest on a horse ranch plagued by a mysterious phantom horse and as always, you have a mystery to solve. Menu Options include two game modes and brightness of screen as well as auto movement. Game mechanics are the same and supported by a Tool Bag where you collect and keep your inventory items, the use of a phone where you can call your friends for hints (the Hardy boys included), and note book along with a task list. I found the voice-over a tad on the corney side and as always you have alot of dialogue to go through as well as alot of reading material as well. If you are a fan of horses, this game will definitely please you. I enjoyed the one hour trial and realised that there are alot of puzzles to go through. I do recommend this game, especially for players who would like to try their hand at pure adventure games. This would be a great way to learn the ropes. Be sure to save your game each time you exit and remember, you always get a second chance if you get yourself into trouble. BFG will be releasing a walkthrough which will be tremendous help if you are just beginning. I really do recommend this game, if anything, it is a classic just like the books.
Small Town Terrors may not be everyone's cup of tea but is a definite buy for me. Although the story is nothing new, in fact I have played several games starting with a car crash, waking up in a deserted hospital and trying to leave town after finding your missing child. Lets not forget avoiding the evil that is lurking about. Sound familiar? So the story is old and used, but the game mechanics are fun and I found that this game is a good IHOG that offers the right amount of challenge as well as an opportunity to use those little grey cells. There are two game modes of play and options include cutom cursor. The graphics are live animation, which I personally dont mind, and the colors are sombre and dark and depressing which is what you would expect. HOS are cluttered and interaction is required for some items and there are puzzles that require some thought as well as some different mini-games that we haven't seen in a while. One thing that appealed to me were the health packs that you have to collect along the way to ensure that you have sufficient strength to carry out an action. Also you will find a map, reports that you collect and the task bar will outline what need to be done and offers you details if you are stuck. I enjoyed myself whilst playing the demo and find it to be a well executed game that is brought to us as a SE which we havent had in sometime. Yes, the game is more or less deja vu, but I I never get tired of playing them Have a good wekk-end everyone.
After having snapped out of my semi-coma state brought on by playing the trial demo for Silent Night, I have poured myself a very strong cup of black coffee in order to wake up and write this review. Silent Night is basically a rehashing of the usual HOG adventure games that we have now become accustomed to. However, in my opinion, Silent Night does not measure up to standards of the better CE games that we have seen this past month and at best I recommend that you wait for the SE version and save your self the trouble of playing this very slow and tedious game. Believe me when I tell you that I am trying my best to look at the pros of this game and after having read many of the reviews in the forum, I am going to go against the grain and say that for me, Silent Night missed the mark of being a good CE game. In all fairness, the developers (DarkBlue) have added on features that will please many gamers; game options include widescreen, Brighter screen and full screen along with two gameplay modes. There is an integrated SG, voice-overs in some of the dialogues and that is about it. The story is too familiar and simply a case of finding missing person kidnapped by evil-doers set during post war France. YAWN! The only interesting element of the storyline was that the theme was music. You would expect that the soundtrack would have been a highlight of the game but instead was a cachophonic drone that numbed the senses and sent me into a lathargic state while playing the game. On a positive note, I do applaud the graphics, annimations and sound effects, all above standard. Game mechanics includes an integrated SG, the usual puzzles and min-games that I found to be too easy and not to mention that the inventory list is placed on top of the screen which personally I find annoying. I tend to be a creature of habit and an avid defender of what CE games should include and this game doe not offer any of the features that make me want to spend the extra dollars: No map, no journal, no challenge, no collectables and no achievemnts or rewards and therefore no re-play value and unfortunately no buy for me. FINALLY, the one thing that put me off of this game entirely was the lag between the scenes. I hate it when you have to wait for a scene to load, it disrupts your gameing experience and causes you to get very bored very quickly. I wish I could recommend this game because obviously alot of work was put into it. However it is just a bad case of deja vue for me and I will undoubtedly wait for the SE version. Obviously try the demo and I expect that many beginners of this genre might enjoy it. Neverthe less, I cannot full heartedly recommend this game at this price.
At first, this game gave me pause to think, to have or to have not? I can say this, I played the entire demo and decided that this game had great potential to being a really great game, but saddly, it missed the mark in several areas. First, there is the language problem; it would be apreciated if game developers spend some extra money on better english translators which would make the game more user friendly. That being said, "Flower of Immortality" is a classic HOG adventure game where you have two modes of playing included in the options. I chose the difficult mode and I can tell you this, absolutely not one speck pf sparkle or any kind of hand holding. Really good music, I actually enjoyed it and no voice-over which is too bad. Voice-overs could haveshot the rating way up high. I liked the story: a classic adventure set in the 1930's where our protagonist needs to retrieve an artifact in order to avoid execution by the British Government. I am curious to see if our hero saves the girl as well as saves his life. You meet alot of quirky character (with bad english ) and that made the story a bit more fun. Unfortunately I wish I can say the same for the the graphics and animation. They are very outdated and gives the game a real "old-school" feel about it. (It must be a week for retro games at BFG:)))) Some scenes are clear and crisp but HOS scenes are dark and grainy. I will say this, HOS that I came across during the trail period were really difficult and caused me some anxiety. I really had a difficult time finding some items and actually had to use the hint button which for me is rare. They are also interactive which I liked and some were very "challenging". I actually appreciated the fact that there were no penalty clicks because, much to my chagrin, I was clicking away furiously at objects. The puzzles were at times difficult and I hate to admit, I was stumped a couple of times. Again I had to use the hint button and will probably look forward to a walkthrough. This is a game where you will defintely need to use your little grey cells and this does make the entire gaming experience challenging and most probably be alot of fun for some of the more advanced players. Mingames were actually different and I really enjoyed them. So what am I saying? Yes! I will be recommending and also buying this game because I actually missed the extra aggrevation and frustration of being challenged which not many games offer. For those who want a bit more oomph in your gaming experience, at least try the demo and then decide. I expect that this is another case where many will either hate it or really like it. I really liked it and am now off to buy. Happy gaming everyone.
I get the feeling that this game got lost in the old archives and somebody decided to brush away the cobwebs and dust, and put it out today. Although the game has many flaws, too many to list properly, something about it kept me playing the entire demo and I am deeply perplexed as to why I will be spending a credit on this game. Perhaps I am feeling a bit nostalgic or a bit masochistic or I have way to much time on my hands. Needless to say, the game does have some redeeming qualities and I think I will point them out. First the story caught my attention, I would like to find out what will happen between the Detective and Screenwriter who find themselves caught up in a murder that took place in another time. There is time travel folks and I have yet to discover how to travel. Secondly, there are two play options, and to my surprise, one of them involves being timed. Now that really takes me back to the old days. The game is basically a HOG with a bit of FROG and adventure thrown in. In pro mode, HOS are timed and that presented me with a challenge that I basically missed. Now for the less redemming features: graphics are way old school and dark. HOS are cluttered, dark and sometimes and causes a high degree of frustration and squinting. In one HOS, Some items were hidden under the item list and that made me cringe. The FROGs are just ridiculous, some impossible to find due to size and darkness of screen. No matter, I still managed to complete the within the time limit. The biggest flaw in this game is in moving about and doing the puzzles. I just cant explain it, too many sparkles and doors and...well you just have to play the demo to get my meaning. For example, during the demo, I accumulated several inventory items and had no idea as to how and where to use them. Hint system is just plain laughable and you are basically clueless as to where to go. That being said, there is a map that to my great surprise is interactive and tells you where you need to be and takes you there. I can go on about the quality of graphics, the brain numbing music that almost puts you into deep rem sleep, the no voice over and no journal. However the minigames that I ran across were old school but they did carry some degree of fun factor, I actually enjoyed them; (there was a match3 game!) So why am I buying this game? Because I actually started to enjoy myself, especially the timed HOS. There is also a score sheet that is clever and will offer replay value. My recommendation is try the demo. I believe this is the case where you will either hate it or like it. I recommend this game to game junkies like myself who missed the old HOG of the past. Cheers!
Get rid of the cobwebs and the dust and prepare to play this classic Who Done it game designed in the old-school way. Not a great game but decent enough to buy and spend a lazy Sunday afternoon solving a murder mystery. What immediately attracted me was the story. I love a classic murder mystery where I am a detective out to solve the murder of an inventor. I find myself inside his mansion and I have 5 suspects to question, many clues to pick up along the way, puzzles to solve, mini-games to play and finger prints and jewelry to collect. I have a great casefile with alot of information , a great hint system that offers your step by step tasks, a list of objectives and a map. The game offers two modes of play, voice-overs that lean toward corney and a blast to the past with very retro like animations. If you can get past the graphics, which despite being very dated, colors are crisp and bright, alot of HOS where items are cluttered and a map that does not take you from one place to another, it is a game that actually has alot of fun fctor to it. I enjoyed playing the demo and now am off to purchase the game to find out if the Butler did it...........
