If you appreciate good artwork, good voiceovers, and movie-like animation, this game fits the bill. The HOS are fine with me. Mini games are mostly easy, but there were a few challenging ones. The only downside of the game is the story isn't that gripping and somewhat formulaic. The story didn't have a good build up of tension, mystery and suspense. But I did enjoy the artwork and snazzy special effects and found it perfectly fine.
I didn't expect to like the game, but it's actually pretty well done. The artwork appears to be hand drawn and painted like days of yore. The story is a mystery with pirates, ghosts, Devil Island, and gold treasure hidden in a dungeon. Reminds me of Treasure Island, except protagonist is Madame Detective. This is a story that draws you in quickly. HOS and mini puzzles are not hard. It's a game that experienced fishies will finish rather quickly, but highly enjoyable. I'm not crazy about the artwork, as it is dark, gray and foggy, but considering the story and setting, it's appropriate. The map is straightforward and there are helpful messages to guide you on what to do or find.
I usually associate unicorns as creatures of light, bright, and mythical creatures. Despite the title of the game, it's really more a ghost castle, as the artwork, while good, is dark and shades of gray or beige. There is a lot to see and do in the game, which makes for a long game if played with few hints. I would recommend using the teleport map, which shows areas with active tasks and sparkles to indicate HOS, otherwise you will get lost and wander aimlessly. The HOS repeat themselves, as in you've been there before, but you look for different objects the 2nd time around. Some objects are small, dark, and well hidden. There are some features normally associated with CE versions found in the SE version: ---all video clips are repeatable in your diary ---there is a misclick penalty in HOS where you get a billow of fog and a rune pops up that you have to trace before going back to the HOS ---each time you use Hint button, a ghostly orb of light floats in a scene and if you catch the light, the hint button replenishes faster The story really carries the day for this classic style HO adventure game
I'm not a huge fan of vampires, but this was a fun game to play. The story is creative, which is a challenge given the hundreds of iterations on this legend. There are a lot of special effects and video cut scenes to make it seem like a movie. The artwork is excellent--not ghoulish, dark, and gloomy. I do wish the devs had made the videos high def to match the sharp, clear HO scenes. The videos are blurry. Characters are well drawn, and voiceovers matched the appearance of characters. There aren't many HOS at the beginning, but more towards the end, which also got more challenging. The use of word riddles instead of list of objects combined with small, dark, and well hidden objects made for a challenge. No morphing objects, but I found plenty of challenge in the riddles. Mini puzzles are reasonable, although I did consult the WT a few times for guidance. The game moves at a fast, snappy clip at the start and gets more ambiguous and challenging in the middle and end. All in all, I had a good time playing the game and felt the ending ended satisfactorily--not abruptly, but conclusively, in a happy fashion. This game is a definite buy if you enjoy high quality artwork, movie-style games, fan of vampires, or just want some good, non-gloomy fun.
If you're a guy who plays HO games, this game might appeal to you, as the protagonist is a guy (who looks like a sailor) narrates his adventure defeating the wicked witch. Can't remember rest of the story. It's a game that plays quickly because actions are logical, mini games are on easy side. It's not a bad game, just not outstanding in my opinion. I would have enjoyed the game more if it had been longer or had nicer artwork. I don't pay too much attention to the storyline, as the plot is usually the same--defeating the villain, saving the world, rescuing a family member, unearthing a hidden world or secret, etc. Give the demo a try to see if it suits your fancy.
This is an enjoyable game to play with lots to do and see. Most of the mini games are easy, except for a handful that are tedious to solve. Artwork is good to excellent. Inanimate objects are well done, but the characters are either really well done or just average. Voiceovers are OK, but lip movement doesn't always match with spoken sound. The weakest link in the game is the storyline, which is farfetched and forgettable. The time setting is also mixed up. You play a detective in contemporary time, but you encounter a soldier dressed up in Civil War uniform and the characters you are rescuing from the demon Vaal are dressed in medieval garb? If you can look past the weak storyline, this is a highly enjoyable game to play. I think it deserves a look or demo.
This game has so many wow factors that make it impressive.
1-the scenes are interactive and not static. As you wander the 1st scene and come across a tray of chocolates, you click on a Heart chocolate and up pops a message. You munch on another chocolate, another message. After the 3rd chocolate, it recommends you save some chocolates for other guests! Then there's the ship in a bottle where the water moves when you pick up the bottle.
2- there are MANY hidden object games to play. The standard for this developer is picking up an item and picking up fragments or objects related to the open object to complete. Usually it's only 6 objects to find, but just enough to make it interesting when finding an object to use in your progress.
3- there are many rooms to visit, many actions until your journey ends
4- The mini puzzles are easy or very manageable.I actually found several of the HOS had 1-2 items really hard to find, but you can switch to mahjong style matching to complete items not found.
5- If you play on advanced mode, the 1st 3rd of the game I found somewhat hard to figure out what to do next, and in the middle and latter part of the game, actions and objects to find become more logical and easier to intuit (just the opposite of most games going from easy to difficult).
6- The devs have done an outstanding job in their creativity for turning ordinary objects into magical items. It's hard to describe--you have to play the game in order to be dazzled by their creativity.
7- this is a LONG game. The story is well developed in its beginning, middle and end. It is a complete story and you don't feel like they truncated the end in order to lure you into a bonus chapter seen in the CE. It's a complete game on its own, and therefore worth its full value when purchased.
If there's a flaw with the game, I wish the characters were more attractive. The characters are well drawn and authentic looking, but without movie star or model attractiveness.
Yes, I look exactly like these folks, but when I'm playing a game as the protagonist, I like to think of myself as svelte, tall, and drop dead gorgeous, LOL. Just makes the fantasy more fun.
This is a good game, but could have been better. The artwork, voiceovers, story, animation are good. Mini puzzles are mostly easy. HOS are standard, but they REPEAT themselves. More experienced gamers would find the HOS too easy. Developers should have worked a bit more to make the HOS more varied and interesting. The story is easy to follow, but ending ends abruptly, as if the devs lost steam and ran out of ideas for a better climax. I really liked this game, but it definitely fell short in those areas described, which would have made it a much better game to play. It's still a fun game to play and recommended for beginners to the HO genre or those who enjoy a good, straightforward mystery that's not too hard to tackle. Despite no BF walkthrough, the game is manageable with Hint & skip buttons. There is a map teleport button.
I recommend this game!

Beautifully drawn fairytale with creative storyline
I loved everything about this game, except several of the mini puzzles were really vexing to solve. This is a game for all levels of gaming experience, especially those who like a challenge. Despite the relative low MB of the game, it is quite a long game when played on advanced mode, with a lot to see and do. Everything is beautifully drawn and should be appealing to those who like bright, colorful, and cheerful settings, lush scenery, and good looking characters. The storyline is excellent, coherent, and easy to follow. This is a game that can be played several times over, because experience may help the 2nd or 3rd time around when coming across some of those pesky, tricky puzzles.
I loved this game! A nice break from HO games, and can be played for a week or more. You get: ---A lot of match 3, 3 levels of difficulty ---A little bit of hidden object scenes ---A little bit of cooking ---A little bit of calligraphy writing ---A suitcase of collectibles/Japanese souvenirs ---A collection of flowers and herbs from Japan ---mix & match yo-yo puzzles, match 2 and other easy mini games ---a little bit of a romance story --- catchy, soothing background music (one of the very rare games in which I like the music) ---postcards containing interesting trivia about Japan
Count me as a fan. I hope the developers have more similar games in exotic countries like Turkey, Norway, Finland, etc.
I like that the M3 is mixed up with other activities, otherwise it gets to be a drag.
