What a surprise, finding so much entertainment in an SE game !! This could easily qualify as a Collector's Edition. I actually played this game a couple of years ago. I enter all games I review in a notebook and discovered this one was not entered. I feel it very important to always submit a review on each game, so that other gamers are informed as much as possible before investing their money. In an ideal world we could receive a refund for any game we were disenchanted with, so I wish each gamer would take the time to put forth their honest opinion of every game they play, to assist their fellow gamers. I see that the game has been described many times here, so I will not repeat all the positive comments. For me it was an excellent adventure and lots of fun detective work. I loved the story, it was consistent and uncomplicated. The graphics were beautifully done and very clear and colorful. All the games/puzzles were perfect (for me). It was a long game, it all came together with a suitable ending and I was very satisfied with the entire experience. The purchase was worth every penny, I highly recommend to all levels of experience. Hope it provides you with hours of fun, as it did me.
Who is the Crimson Thief? Can Mortimer piece together the clues to finding all the stolen items? There is much more to this new mystery than meets the eye.

Mortimer Beckett presents a very challenging experience. The game looks sweet and innocent on the surface, but I fell for it and went along with Mortimer on his detective quest. We went from place to place collecting objects and clues that were so well hidden, they may as well have been on another planet. It was a long, tedious trip through this game, but I hung in there! Finally, I caught on and the game turned into lots of fun and gave me a great sense of accomplishment ! It was mostly a silly detective game, I am referring to all the traveling and menial tasks required to get to the goal. The very hardest part of the game, for me, was in the auto repair shop. I spent so much time stuck there, my hair was turning grey and old-age was setting in. Finally, when my light bulb came on I was so mentally drained, that I couldn't jump up and do my Happy Dance (LOL). Well, I ended up really enjoying my relationship with Mortimer Beckett and bought the other games in the series. Have not played them yet, so cannot give you an opinion that may or may not save you from self-destruct. I ultimately found that this is a wonderful game for those of us who love a great challenge and are accustomed to the frustration that goes along with it. That is the fun for us "crazy" gamers. Hope you enjoy as I did !

This was an excellent game, nice and long. It was almost too much of a good thing with what seemed 1000s of things to find. It was quite challenging because all the items were very small and well blended into the scene. I really loved that and felt a great sense of relief and satisfaction when I found everything. I always try not to use a hint (don't like cheating), but have to admit I gave in a few times so I could avoid "brain-freeze". The puzzles (for me) were hard to figure out with minimal or no instruction and they were challenging. There is no skip but pay attention and you will see how your hint button gets you out of a game. The hint system involves finding insects, they are very little and hard to see with their colors blending so well. I try to find them all at the very beginning, 5 being the most you can have. However, twice I had 6 of them but have no idea how that happened. Must have done something to EARN an extra hint. Also, very important to find the explorer's notebook page. There is only one in each scene and the map will indicate as a "reminder" that it is there. Without these pages you cannot follow the adventure and story, and you will miss some hints for the games which are mixed in with the notes. All the scenes are very interesting, absolutely overflowing with objects. Some scenes are very colorful and some are gray and dull. But the graphics are good and clear. The Beetle Temple and its contents near the end of the game has a different color scheme going on. You earn points and increase/decrease your rank and title as the game progresses. Every little accomplishment makes a big difference, if you enjoy challenging yourself. AMAZON wore me out, did my Happy Dance when it was over. I always enjoy these Hidden Expedition games, each one is very different from the others in the series, and this one was a very busy and fun hidden object game. I recommend. Good idea to have a magnifying glass handy !!

because BF prematurely ended my free trial. So I am sharing my opinion of the game as fairly as possible. Albert is a very handsome young man who receives a mysterious letter and suddenly takes off without much of an explanation. His fiancée is quite distraught over this and soon decides to follow after him to a mysterious land, hoping to discover what is behind the urgent letter. Something bad evidently happened to Albert after his arrival, something supernatural IMO...and there is a young girl in the story now. She seems to be a guide trying to help locate Albert and provide answers to this mystery.
I cannot provide much more than game mechanics or opinions on graphics, etc because BF took me away from the game too soon! This has happened once before and I certainly do not appreciate it, especially when I am not allowed to resume playing !!
The options provide a custom cursor if you so choose and a casual and advanced mode. The only difference seems to be in how quickly the hint and skip reload, and there is no tutorial in the advanced mode.
The HOGs are attractive with large, easy-to-find items. They are very interactive and that was a plus for me. I loved the one with the snake, The HOGs very quite creative. I was able to play only two puzzles, they were not that difficult, just a little different. There was an excellent jump map that also indicated where tasks were available, also permanently on screen were directional arrows that I'm sure will become very handy once you get further into the game.
The hand drawn graphics were very pretty with an antique look to the subtle coloring. It was very appropriate to the time period. A couple of very menacing wolves made an early appearance...they were extremely ready to tear someone apart and looked very realistic! And the bats swarming above the house were angry and mean-looking., Great art-style with the creatures ! An eye icon appeared where there was something to do or an item was hiding. I think this was probably only in the casual mode, which would be almost too helpful. In the library there were too many eyes at one time in the scene. For me it was distracting and I could hardly wait to get out of the room. Just too much of a good thing, I guess. There was nothing special about the music, it was atmospheric but not overly so. I did not feel a need to turn it down or off as we often do with some of these creepy, suspenseful games.
Well, this is where I exited...wish I could have been more helpful. I think I may enjoy this game, since I always love a good mystery. I really want to know what happened to Albert. So I just may decide to make this a purchase, hoping it was the right decision.
To be fair, I am rating this with 5 stars because it looks promising! God bless...and a Happy and Safe New Year to Everyone.

This is such a wonderful series. I own all the Samantha games, Hidden Roses feeling to me like the easiest of the four. They are so busy...traveling to different countries, hunting for important artifacts, keeping one step ahead of the female villain. I love Samantha, she would be a good companion for Indiana Jones. I think that would make for a great Indiana Jones movie !!
Even though some gamers are opposed to this art style and the less sophisticated look or feel of the game, I find it very appealing and always have a great time playing. The graphics are just fine and very colorful, and interesting. I especially enjoyed the scene in the marketplace in this one, involving the soldiers...clever and comical. The locations are amazing for such a light adventure game and the tasks are pretty involved. It makes finding the artifacts and reaching your goals even more fun!
All the Samantha games have so far played smoothly without any glitches or slow downs. Unfortunately, Hidden Roses has not lived up to that standard. I cannot remember what location I was on when I finally called it quits and uninstalled the game. I was quite far into the game, on a dig site. All tasks had been completed and all but one item was located, that being a key which needed to be located with a tool. The tool was the metal finder, I went right where indicated but it did not give me the key. I even went back over it numerous times using 6 of my saved-up hints. I tried everything. Absolutely nothing worked, so I am believing there is a glitch or I just became suddenly dumb as a rock because I could not do what was needed to move on. I am so disappointed, I could cry. But alas, I choked back the tears and swallowed my pride (lol) and uninstalled the game. It was a great time while it lasted !! Hopefully more Samantha games are in our future but I won't hold my breath...the newer games are not as sweet and innocent anymore. The dark, demented games are taking over at an alarming rate. The only light-hearted games available seem to be jigsaw puzzles and match 3.

This was a very engaging game, plenty to do with the very many HOGs and not quite as many games. There was lots of back and forth to be done, with no map, but it was not all that bad. The hint system worked quickly and I used it mainly to find out where to go next. The book provided the obstacles and hints if you need them via of photos and THE clue. It made the game easy to navigate and a little too easy to play. However, the storyline was very good and the graphics were hand-drawn, excellent and beautifully colored. I also liked the sound of the thunder and the voices were good. I was a little disappointed that the evil soul-stealer made a very scant appearance in the game, it would have made the game much more tense and exciting had he been in more scenes. Read the popular novel for a really good dark story. This was a decent SE game, I recommend.

It was a fun game, I really enjoyed the adventure and the uncomplicated game style. It started out just so-so but picked up the interest factor as the game progressed. Chapter 13 was the beginning of the good stuff. My favorite scenes and tasks started in the mine. Lots of interesting things in there, especially liked the lightning bugs and crystals. It was a busy time, very colorful, numerous things to find and goals to accomplish. It was interesting. The graphics were crystal clear and very colorful with comic book style art which I always happen to enjoy quite a bit, The characters in early part of story physically moved very minimally but it was interesting to see. The rest of the story was all "still-art". No talking...just dialogue inside word bubbles, but that never bothers me as long as I can follow the storyline. Amanda seemed too beautiful and put together for this type of adventure, but she pulled it off quite well! Her headshot was in the left lower corner of screen. It was kind of silly and distracting as she shook her head each time you made an incorrect choice or nodded when you made the right choice when clicking on an object. A cute idea I guess, but I did not find it cute or helpful. It was not a helper-type feature. The inventory list was tricky, it was confusing to me and took some getting use to. I hate to admit it took me a while to get the hang of it - DUH !! The hint button became a useful tool with the list, as you will discover. But there are no penalties involved. When your work is done in each area, you are informed and the smaller "special" hidden items areas are "closed" so you don't keep wasting time returning to those places. I liked that feature very much. The Temple later in the game was spectacular, didn't expect anything like it considering the scenery and theme of the game thus far. The colors, the objects, the activities were grand. I think you will be delighted when you arrive there and travel throughout the different rooms. There are 16 chapters, the game was a good length that did not wear me out. It had a decent ending that didn't leave any loose ends and Amanda, her father and Doc escaped the dangerous time-line travel to live happily ever-after, of course! A good purchase with coupon or on sale. I happily recommend.

I enjoyed this mystery game very much and wish I could find another Elisa Cameron. It was sad in a way as she realized that she was dead, don't know that I would have handled it so calmly!! It was a satisfying mystery with enough challenge, tasks, and back & forth looking for stuff to keep it busy but not tedious. The games and HOs were all fun. I was stumped a couple of times and reluctantly gave up. The games were skippable and the hints work well. The game was not super difficult, I think I used a hint or 2 when trying to make the tea. The story was uncomplicated and made sense. The voice-overs were nice, graphics were beautiful with soft colors, and the game ran with no tech problems. It was about 4 hrs long for me and I think it was worth the price for an SE game.

A very busy, long game that did not disappoint. The graphics were drenched in rich color and lavish scenes. Many fairytale characters with tweaked personalities added up to a unique adventure. Lots of interactivity in the HOGs. There were good, not impossibly challenging games. The tasks involved to accomplish your goals made you think and required a fair amount of patience; the pirate ship was a good example. I loved Fairy Godmother's house, it was full of magical things. One of the games I especially enjoyed involved filling in a colorful tapestry. There was a lot of back and forth but it did not feel tedious because I was so intent on getting to the next location to see what silly thing was waiting there. The Three Pigs were worth the trip! You will be frustrated on the pirate ship with the task at hand but just remember your special tools and you'll figure it out. Stock up on a hefty supply of gold coins earlier in the game which are available at the cable station. You'll need them for the game on the pirate ship. My experience with this lovely game was made better by just taking my time and enjoying all the silliness and appreciating that it contained nothing dark and sinister. Well, the witch may have been a wee bit so, but you never really had any dealings with her and saw her very briefly at the end. She was just a funny looking animated character like all the others in this story. My only disappointment was the ending when all the characters reunited. I thought there would be a little celebration and short continuation of the tale but, alas, it left us only with a black and white group photo. But it was cute! I highly recommend this game for all, except it may be a little too "altered" for the younger fairytale lovers. Have fun!!
I recommend this game!

Lots of brave, intelligent females in the world today. Thank goodness for all the BF gamers! What would we do without them?? An interesting little storyline with a decent amount of challenge. It was fun but not very long even with its number of tasks with each case. I don't remember how I acquired the game but after playing it, I would be inclined today to purchase with coupon. Not a bad game. I recommend if looking for something more relaxing with a different kind of story attached.
