I just found this game, and totally enjoyed it. It is not a cookie-cutter HOS game. It is an adventure (lite) game, perfect for those who would like to try out this genre of game. The graphics are beautiful. No voice overs, just forest background noises. It is a great game to relax while playing, although it is not very easy. You will need to think. Puzzles I encountered were on the easy side. I highly recommend this for one who wants to veer away from typical HOS games and delve into the world of adventure.
Somehow, I stuck with this through the entire demo. I had very high hopes at the beginning of the game. Nice colors, nice choices of screen brightness, cursor, etc. Well, then the game started. And there it went downhill rapidly for me. You are playing as Vida, who is the destroyer of dark forces. You're moseying along, and your carriage crashes. Gasp. You happen to find a wereferret in a cage and you unfortunately unlock him. I say unfortunately, because he never shuts up. Between the two of you there is constant conversation, or if you mute, constant written dialogue. There is a journal, and a map. This map appears to be a jump map, although I didn't try it. However the map will tell you what you will find at each scene, which inventory items to use, etc. There were 2 choices of difficulty, and I chose easy, as I always do when trying a game. Perhaps of difficult, the map wouldnt be so handy? There are sparkles everywhere. All of this is ok. However, it is a HOS fiesta. There are HOS everywhere. For those who like almost exclusive HOG games, you may like this. The HOS were blurry with small objects. Many objects to find in each scene. No wonder they advertise that the game is 10 hours long. lol. The hint refills quickly. The wereferret is also your hint. Besides for all this is a lagging, and I do mean lagging, cursor. Trying to get into the inventory was a hit or miss. The cursor had to show back up first. This is a no go for me. Not only because of the lagging, but because of the HOS. I don't recommend this game. It needs some fixing.
Over and over the same nightmare is following you: your sister Anna is trapped in a strange existence, begging you to help her escape. But what if these are not just random nightmares?
Here we have a game where you and your sister (twins) apparently haven't seen each other since childhood ? What's up with that? Where have these people been ? Anyway, you keep having terrifying dreams about her safety, so you hop in your car after all these years and drive to her house, which is also you childhood home. There are 2 types of HOS.. list and silhouette. They are actually good and I'm not a big fan of HOS. There weren't too many. The games, puzzles were challenging and interesting. Graphics were ok. There are no voiceovers. There aren't many sounds at all, just some background music which makes for an oddly quiet game. The game itself ran smoothly without glitches. It is challenging with some unique uses for inventory items. I think it is a great SE from these developers (whom I haven't heard of before), but for me, the story or game didn't grab me. I will pass on this one until it is a DD or on sale. I do recommend it however, as this is just my personal taste. :)

I didn't play the first Rite of Passage game, so I am not sure about the history of Willow Ridge. However, this game can be enjoyed without playing that first game. You are searching for your husband who has run into the forest to save the town. The only drawback is that the forest has evil trees in it. The lighthouse, which keeps these evil trees at bay, has gone and exploded. Oh so not good !!!! The graphics are really sharp. Music is great. You have 3 choices of difficulty plus a custom setting. The HOS are different and interesting... you shall see. The puzzles are very original and fun. Interesting the play. The hint button (I am playing on the easiest level for demo purposes) refills quickly as does skip. You get to collect acorns and there are achievements galore. There is a bonus chapter at the end of the CE, and all that other wallpaper, etc. kind of stuff. This appears to be a long playing game and you do need to think about things. You are not lead by the hand and the usage of inventory items requires thought. Oh how nice :)) I like the game and am downloading the full game now. Great job to these developers for bringing something different to the table !!!

A TM/building game set in the wild west. Tutorial is ok. Maybe could have been a bit more explanatory as far as citizens in the town, etc. Graphics are ok but it's set in a wild west kind of theme so everything is kind of brown. The game is timed and you need to build houses, a sheriff's office, lumber mill, etc. to achieve your daily goals. Not hard yet to get gold on each level. Not sure how long the game is. For me, the game was just ok. :))
I don't recommend this game.

Beautiful cartoon-like graphics, crystal clear., A true adventure/puzzle game. Not a HOS in sight !!!!! The game is interesting and challenging. Puzzles were challenging to me. Interactive map with jump feature was excellent, as was the "area complete" bonus. A very very good game.

Oh happy day :) I have been waiting for the SE of this game. One game I have totally enjoyed of late. Not too difficult, so you may want to play on a harder challenge level. I love the seaside atmosphere. The HOS are clear and fine. The puzzles are slightly challenging. I may be missing a bonus chapter or achievements by not buying the CE, however, I have moved away from CE as they don't deliver enough to be double the price of an SE. I highly recommend this game. Great graphics and sound.
The story begins with a missing woman, Isabella, and her husband. The husband was found washed ashore with a pirate hook for an arm. OK.... sure. You see her ghost and she implores you to search the castle and help her. You have 2 choices of difficulty. A tutorial, which even though I played on casual, I didn't really see it. The game is dark but that's all ok, it's supposed to be a mystery. The HOS I ran across were fine but blurry. The mini games were simplistic. You have a interactive map which also transports you. So far so good. You also have a treasure chest so you can collect coins at every scene. You will need these coins to open other treasure chests to get inventory items. Let me tell you, those coins are hard to see. The map will tell you if there are coins in certain areas, and the treasure chest will open in each scene and not close until you find all the coins. The controls are very very touchy. When I would try to click on items, I would end up traveling to a different place. This became extremely annoying. The game had no flow to it. You were here, there, and everywhere, accomplishing little. I spent most of the time going back to where I wanted to be originally and trying not to click too far left or right or low and be sent to a different area. I think this one needs to seriously go back to the drawing board. I was excited to see a pirate themed game figuring how can they get a pirate story wrong? Oh sadness.... not for me. I do not recommend this game.

This was a very slow moving game, but in a good way. It was set in the snow and the sound effects of the wind and snow was chilling. More of an adventure game than HOG although there were 2 types of HOS.... List, and silhouette. Other reviewers have described the story and game play. I like the fact that you are on your own to figure out what to do. No annoying hints telling you exactly where to go or what to do. Also, you must think about where you may use an inventory object as it is not readily apparent. The mini games were mediocre. Challenging to some extent, but not hair-pulling, screaming into the night difficult. I enjoyed it.

What a great game !!! For adventure lovers, this is a must try. No HOS ( yay) :))) Not at all difficult. Recommend for those who are exploring adventure type gaming. There is also another game in this series which is equally good, but I like this one a little better.
