As a stand alone, non ex-CE game, I think this is great. No, it does not have small animal helpers or terrific music. Yes, the graphics and movements of the characters are a bit stilted. However, the storyline is good. The plot is good. The challenge level is good. I played on medium mode (you have a choice of 3 modes) and found I really needed to think about what to do and how to solve the puzzles. There are few HOS, and the ones I did do were strictly list. I don't mind this at all. Items were not difficult to find nor were the scenes dark. You have a journal which contains a map (which is not a jump or task map), evidence, tasks, and a diary. The hint button will jump you to the location where a task is needed. There are a few things to collect. Possibly more in the full version. Despite not being loaded down with morphing objects and all the bells and whistles, I actually enjoyed this game and it will be a buy for me. It does look to be on the short side.
I recommend this game!

First I must say I absolutely love this game developer. They are one of the few who welcome and answer comments from the players. I'm a bit sketchy as to how this whole story starts. You are driving along, crash the car, and are surrounded by fog. You meet characters who inform you the fog is a very bad thing as it indicates the release of an evil wizard. Along the way you get two helpers, a raccoon who can climb and a dragon who can breathe fire. There's a lot going on in the game, or it appears so because the scenes are very colorful and full. You meet the "good" people of the kingdom who are all counting on you to trap the evil wizard so everyone can live happily ever after. The HOS are slightly interactive in list form. Pretty easy. The games and puzzles required thought, at least for me. They were different and fun. There are collectibles although I really didn't look for them during the demo. I did fine one bell. There are achievements that are game related. You do get a map that you can adjust to tell you where action is available or turn it off so it does not tell you. It is also a jump map. The graphics are bright, colorful, clear. Music is non-obtrusive. I'm not sure how long the game is. That is something I'd like to find out. Bottom line is, I am not a fan of fairy tale games. I felt the last CE released recently was sickly sweet. This one, however, had something else mixed into it that made it more adventurous and a bit more sinister. I liked it. I will do more looking into the length and with the sale will most likely be a buy for me. Happy gaming and Happy weekend !!!
I recommend this game!

Well here we have a new game from ERS. There hasn't been one from this developer in awhile, but fear not, they have not changed a thing from their previous game. This is loosely based on "Beauty and the Beast", which happens to be my favorite fairy tale. We have the usual modes of play plus a new custom mode. Jump map. Achievements, Collectible birds. Oh, and "helpers": I suppose in a fairy tale-themed game, these little supposedly cute animals that can reach things or make flowers bloom are cute. I prefer not to have them. The HOS were ridiculously easy. You are given a choice to play a unique match 3 type of game which was good. The puzzles are simple. I did not use the strategy guide or hint, so I cannot comment on that. Yes, the colors, sounds, game play, etc and smooth and bright and colorful. However, the game, to me, was sickly sweet. I could not wait until the demo was finished. Simplistic, set right to typical ERS formula. I recommend this if you are a big fan of a simple fairy tale game. For me, no buy.
I don't recommend this game.

I'm not familiar with this TV show. Didn't know it was a TV show until I read the other reviews. You have 2 modes to choose to play - expert or casual. There is a lot of dialogue that you cannot skip through unless you skip the entire conversation. You are the newest member of the paranormal team investigating a haunting in Poison Spring Arkansas. There were quite a few very simplistic HOS. I did encounter puzzles and I was very confused as to what to do. I solved them by trial and error as I saw no directions. Everything is small. The cursor, the magnifying glass, etc. I'm not a fan of that. The story and game play was very disjointed for me. You are constantly being interrupted by the other investigators with talk talk talk. You get a map but I'm not sure if it's a jump map or not. The game was just poorly put together for my taste and hard to follow and keep interested. I would not recommend this game.
I don't recommend this game.

I enjoyed the first Dark Canvas game, so was excited to see this game appear. I liked it. Visuals and sound were great. Yes, there were things in the game that other reviewers pointed out that were very far-fetched, such as giving the kitten milk while the murderer was escaping. There are collectibles, morphing objects, stones. There are achievements, a SG which I did not look at, and a bonus chapter, in addition to the CE "nonsense" as I call the wallpaper, etc. The HOS were nicely done. Some interactive, some sillhouette. Many more puzzles in this game than HOS. The puzzles ranged from unique and cute to hard. I liked the progression of the game. The last "big" CE offered annoyed me because of the constant find the object interruptions. This is all just my personal taste in a game. As i only played the demo, I'm not sure how long the game is. I enjoyed it though and will either buy the CE or wait for the SE. With today's sale, it will probably be the CE :) Happy gaming.
I recommend this game!

I won't go into the mechanics of the game since the other reviewers did an excellent job of that. After reading all of the 5 star reviews, I was expecting something madly different. I thought it was OK. Yes, there are a lot of collectables. There are objects to seek out to finish collectables. There are rare books to find where you also need to seek out the parts for them. The HOS were ok. I felt putting pieces of what you found on a table to be put together a bit childish. Then there are morphing objects in the HOS. I lean more toward adventure games. This had way too many things to seek out to thrill me. In my opinion, it interrupts the flow of the story. The puzzles were good. New and different. The game froze 3 times on me while playing and I have a new computer. Also, some scenes loaded very slowly. I'm just OK with the game. I recommend it, but it will be a pass for me and I'll retry it when the SE comes out.
I recommend this game!

This game, as a SE, is a much better buy than the CE was. The CE did not offer anything worthy of being called a CE. The visuals are very nice. Cutscenes are well done, but a bit too frequent for my taste. HOS are interactive. Well done. Puzzles are fairly easy, but I enjoyed them. The story is well done and interesting. A nice long game with a good story that keeps you moving. Jump map is helpful. I recommend.

This game by Sulus, was good. I'm not seeing the graphics as "cartoonish" as some described them. Colors were vibrant, but become "fuzzy" as you go through a portal to help solve someone's nightmare. The HOS are fairly standard, only slightly interactive. The puzzles were a bit puzzling to me but I do admit I am not a great fan of puzzles. Still though, some were difficult. There is a transportable map which seems like a good idea since this Mont Triste place is large. :) I didn't find the game difficult but neither was it simplistic. Just about right for a kick back and relax game. There are achievements and collectibles (gargoyles). Plus a bonus chapter and all that other stuff the devlopers for some reason think I may need. I'm on the fence as to whether to wait for the SE. With the sale this weekend, I may buy the CE as there is another one I also have been waiting to purchase. However, if there was not a sale in progress, Id wait for the SE.
I recommend this game!

Oh happy day. A HOPA that is EXCELLENT. The colors and music were great. You get 3 modes of play. I play my demos in casual so can only comment on that. HOS were very slightly interactive, and not too many in the demo. Puzzles were fun. You need to pair up with your best friend detective and solve the mystery at the hotel. I found that I really needed to think about my next step, my next move, which is a good thing. This wasn't (for me) an "oh and it goes there" game. I was shocked when the demo was over, it went so quickly. Kind of reminded me of the Dark Tales-Edgar Allen Poe games. There are achievements. There are also collectables, which are painting and are not hard to find as they are out in the open. There is also a section called special room, and I'm not quite sure what that is as it wasn't covered in the demo. There also is the usual assortment of CE items, i.e., wallpaper, bonus chapter, music, etc. This is a definite buy for me. Highly recommend.
I recommend this game!

Again, we have Emily trapped in her dream world while her aunt, a scientist, attempts to cure her. The graphics are bright, colorful, and almost cartoonish. There's a bit too much interaction by the aunt's boss (or whoever that other scientist is). He became annoying to me. Early on you get a giant teddy bear helper who keeps jumping in to help too. The HOS are standard junkpiles. Nothing exciting about them. The mini games were OK. Most were been there, done that. This game, in my opinion, doesn't even come close to having CE quality. I'm not even sure I'd like it as an SE as I wasn't very fond of the story or the constant interruptions. Just not my dream game.
I don't recommend this game.
