BASED ON COMPLETED GAME
I enjoyed this game quite a bit. It entertained and amused. Gave me a bit of nostalgia for Song of the Phoenix as they recycled some of the music and the quality of the artwork was similar. The puzzles weren't as well done or as challenging though.
I do suggest that you wait for the SE. There really wasn't enough to recommend the CE. The story rapped up nicely in the main game and the bonus chapter was a sort of look-into-the-past/prequel that really muddied the main story. It left plot holes. I could've done without it. In fact, I preferred the main game without the bonus chapter.
Also, the extras that you search for (some really easy to find ravens) weren't enough of a challenge nor did they have any real significance beyond just something to look for on a page. Eh, coulda skipped it.
So while I was highly entertained by the main game, I was disappointed with the bonus chapter and the extras. Go for the SE and you'll be happier.
I recommend this game!

Based on Completed Game:
This is a great game! The kind that leaves you with a smile and an "Awww, that was so awesome!" comment dripping off your lips. Really. I enjoyed it a lot.
The only reason it got 4 stars instead of 5 is that the story was less original than the first Cadenza, the sound track wasn't quite as good, and the gameplay was a little short. The first one was a CLASSIC Class Act, and this installment almost lives up to its predecessor! Lol.
I won't go into detail as that's already been done, but if you're like me and are wondering whether to get the CE or the SE then I'd say either one is a bet. Depends. If you want to be able to download the awesome sound track then get the CE. But if you don't really HAVE TO have the music, wallpapers, etc. then waiting for the SE is just fine as the story raps up nicely. The Bonus Chapter is a totally different story starring the police detective from the main game. You're not missing anything if you don't play the bonus.
I recommend this game!

Firebird40, I don't know who you are, but you were absolutely right! Firebird said in his/her review that the best part of the game was the demo and that it deteriorates from there into ridiculous tedium. (Paraphrase) I just didn't want to believe it and went ahead and bought the game anyway.... OMG!!! He/she is soooo right!
I love the Secret Order series and couldn't wait to find out how Sarah got back to her time. Well, this game just killed all of that enthusiasm and more. It's terrible. I'm not even finished and I can barely stand to continue. It draaaaaags and the story is completely improbable, utterly ridiculous, and juvenile.
I gave it two stars because the first hour and a half or so are fun. After that, forget it!
I don't recommend this game.

It was one of those weekends when there's SUCH a good sale that you have to take advantage... and just one more punch till that free game credit ... but it was only about 10 minutes to midnight sooooo based on the comments from the CE version I bought this game. Boy, was that a mistake!
I had just finished a great Mystery Case Files so I thought that this would be similar, but this game bored me to tears. Really. Just bored.
There was no background music just a kind of shushing sound to accompany the snowfall - and no excitement to offset the silence. The imagery/graphics were alright if a bit grainy. But I didn't really care for the setting at all - too jumbled and messy.
The story had plot holes the size of Texas and I'm a stickler for the story. The puzzles were very easy and the game seemed short. Plus, the ending was rather abrupt.
This was my first and last mystery trackers game.
I don't recommend this game.

This game was just OK.
The demo was very intriguing/exciting and sucked you into the story. I bought it right away. Thank God it was a free game because the excitement fizzled towards the last third of the game. The story and gameplay stretched way beyond believability. Then it ended without resolution of the main plot point. Ruined it for me.
There were these stones to collect that basically did nothing but fill up a suitcase with meaningless messages from the dead king. (Whose link to the story was never revealed.)
Puzzles were too easy.
If you're not a stickler for a tight storyline then go for it. Otherwise, if you like the story strong along with your exciting game play and challenging puzzles, then give this one a pass. - It's not that the demo is misleading, but that the game doesn't hold together until the end.
I don't recommend this game.

I liked the first one in the series, LOVED the second. This one left me totally flat. I'm gonna pass.
First, the story just jumps right into the middle of a bunch of confusion without it being clear what's going on. You're an entirely different character from the first two editions, and it appears to be in a different time period. (The first two look like the swashbuckling 16, early 1700s. This one has cars and steam-powered riverboats.)
The way the game opens leaves the player asking "Why am I doing this?" or "Why do I care?" There's no build-up or any kind of back-story about the characters at all in the set-up.
I was bored inside of 10 minutes. Then I got to the first HOP and it was just a junk-pile with a list.
Disappointing.
I'll pass on this one.
I don't recommend this game.

I never leave a review before I've finished the entire game BUT this game is sooooooooooo AWESOME that I just had to share - and I'm not finished!
This game has it ALL! If you love a game with a good storyline - it's here. If you like different and challenging puzzles - got em. If you like the gorgeous graphics - check! Action? Adventure? Excitement? Check! Check! Check!
I mean, come on, any game that has you defeating a thing that looks like that Nas Ghul with a Gimli wannabe at your side, has to be cool!
It's a long game that's challenging and will send you round and round through numerous worlds to figure out what goes where.
AND the map is great! There's even an indication for where/if you've missed the Beyond Objects and the Magic Machine Collectibles.
I cannot sing the praises of this game enough!
Now, back to the big finish!
I recommend this game!

So many people have already reviewed this game that you know what it's about and what to expect. What you don't know is how much you'll enjoy it!
It's challenging. It's long. The story is interesting and fun. It's not as creepy as the first Dire Grove (which was 100% Excellent) and there are a few plot holes but you can overlook them. (A little Voldemortish type action going on in Dire Grove.)
If, like me, you're really in it for the story and the puzzles then you'll get a rush as there are these combination puzzles that are ahhh .... pfffff. Just say the hint button was a Godsend 'cause otherwise I had no clue what I was supposed to do at some points. Glutton for punishment that I am, I loved it! LOL.
If you're an intermediate or advanced player of these games then you're in for a treat. Beginners beware.
I recommend this game!

This game's been out for a few years so, of course, there are things that were annoying at first just because they're out of date - i. e. no transporting map, no map at all, no lockable inventory, no help other than in the HOSs, and junkpile HOSs without the interactivity we've come to enjoy. With all that you may ask yourself why in the world would I give this 5 stars? Well, because even without all of that, this is hands down, ONE OF THE BEST GAMES I HAVE EVER PLAYED! Seriously.... and I own a lot of these BF games. Those missing components simply added to the intricacy and made the game more entertaining.
The game is challenging. Very challenging. If you're a beginner, you may wanna skip this one. There is a lot of backtracking - but it's a good thing. This game really makes you work your memory. You have to pay attention to detail and actually listen to the cut scenes because a great many of the clues are in the cut scenes. There are no hints or info provided for puzzles, and there are no hints during the adventure parts of the game. You have to figure it out cold turkey... (or quit the game and check the forum, heh heh.) I enjoyed the challenge!
The story line is great! I'm a sucker for a good story. If the plot has holes then it ruins it for me, but this one was perfect!
The puzzles were excellent, the HOs were just good. There's no info that tells you what to do in the puzzles so you have to figure it out. Great! The HOs were junkpiles - like pretty much all the games 3 or 4 years ago; but they were fairly simple and made sense in the story. There's hint in the HOs.
The cut scenes weren't animated with voice-overs but live actors and actresses playing the parts of the lost students. They were actually very good!!! It was believable acting that pulled you into the story and made you want to find out what happened to the actors.
All around this was an excellent game! I can't sing its praises highly enough. Now I'm looking forward to completing the newer game Dire Grove, Sacred Grove. If it's anything like this one, then it'll quickly become one of my favorites.
I recommend this game!

My brows are wrinkled and I'm scratching my head. Uuuuh, what happened? Have they collaborated with Eipix? Why?!!! Remember the old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"? I have every single game in the Dark Parables Series; it's my absolute favorite and an automatic buy for me. But this is the only DP game that has me actually considering not buying it!
Don't get me wrong, I love Eipix games but they shouldn't have stepped their toes into this one. The Dark Parables series is Blue Tea all the way! The games have a certain "feel" to them that the Eipix crew was not able to recreate. Eipix games are "lighter" and their input took away from the integrity of the series. DP games are known for dramatic baroque artwork with grainy, yet stunningly beautiful colors and scenery, moody background music, and interlinked tragic story lines filled with love and sorrow and loss - it all comes together to give the DP "feel." The detective is always serious and he never says "Wow!" or asks himself "Where have I seen this fairytale before?" The past stories are treated like a part of the detective's life and they just flow together from one episode to the next. In the DP series you're not supposed to have flat colors, sparkly sounding high-pitched voices and starburst effects. The characters are tragic. It's supposed to be full of action yet melancholy and hopeful at the same time; and you, the detective, are supposed to dispell that and give everyone a fairly happy ending.
Aside from the lack of consistency with the other stories in the series in terms of artwork and voiceovers, it suffers from a weak plot. Hopefully that changes as you progress through the story but the demo didn't make me CARE; It was just oooh, the pretty mermaid temple risen from the sea. But so what? The DP games usually grab you by the heartstrings and tug. They make you feel something for the characters one way or another. But I just finished the 90 min demo and I'm still not sure what's going on.
The puzzles were ok. Usual fare. But the FROGs, which I usually adore, were lacking. Again, it's not that they did it WRONG, there was just something missing and it didn't come out right.
The collectibles were half moons that were just way too easy to spot, and there were no cursed objects.
The voice-overs were terrible. The voices they used were just too high-pitched and bubbly. They sounded too happy. There was no clear calamity or misfortune in their lives to make you care what happened to them.
The gameplay drags a bit in the beginning then jumps to light speed at Chapter two and feels rushed.
Lastly, the parables weren't well done. When you collected a parable piece there was no indication which parable it was and the parables themselves weren't named in the journal. I actually forgot to read them during the demo because the usual parable notice didn't show up on the left side of the screen.
So, overall, I don't like this one. BUT if it weren't a Dark Parables then I'd say it's an alright game. It just doesn't live up to the series. I'm still not sure if I'm going to buy it or not - I'd only buy it because it is a DP and I hope that Blue Tea works on their own on the next one and brings the series back the way we love it.
