I originally played this game as a sneak peek back in November and I think my assessment is pretty much the same. Had to double click on items in the inventory box in bonus game repeatedly. Very annoying. I got all but 5 of the pages, and found all the statues and stars. I still think this needs more action on land and interaction with humans – it deteriorated into the usual evil guy/gal trying to take over the world. Not much mystery adventure to it, as in the first game. I do like the different creatures, they are quite well drawn and imaginative. Stupid errors in the bonus game – old lady pronouncing “scepter” as “skeptor” and referring to a god without the “I” on the end of its name. Don’t these people read/understand their script? Just sloppy. Still, an outstanding effort to do something different, and I enjoyed the game.
One of the nicest things about belonging to Big Fish for a long time is going back and replaying games you've forgotten. I did that this week with this game which I originally bought in 2015. This is a great HO game in a consistently high standard series/ (Yay, Domini Games!) As I've said before, I'm not great or big on puzzles, but most of these I got, skipping just a few that seemed unnecessarily complex (like the ones where it is constantly resetting before you match all the clouds) or I just couldn't figure out. Over time I've gotten better at them, but in the heat of the game I don't often want to go to the SG and see how to figure it out! Anyhoo. This was a very satisfying game, with a good ending: it isn’t obvious who the really evil one is until the bonus chapter! I missed one part of the butterfly and one collectible, I will go for those the next time I play – they don’t allow you to go back and find them. :( This is def. worth a look, especially with the 7.99 price this weekend!
I rarely, if ever, give reviews before I've even finished the demo, but I think this one deserves it. First of all, for those of you under 30, this is a traditionally old style adventure game on the level of the early (and really fun) games like "Monkey Island", "Leisure Suit Larry" and "Space Quest" from those iconic leaders in graphic gaming (Lucas Arts and Sierra On Line) who've since left the field as far as I'm aware. Anyway they were great games BUT: There are _rarely_ hints, and _no_ maps (you had to draw your own, which gave one hours of pleasure/frustration:) Also no morphs. The only hidden objects were to further the game. They were a lot of work, children, but they were also a lot of fun. And the humor was mostly of the satiric type, or Easter-egg type where there were fun allusions to other people or games, etc. That being said, I can see why someone used to the type of games put out since, oh say 2000, this game could be very frustrating. My suggestion is that you wait for the walk-through to appear or google a walk through to help you get started. Now it might end up that this really _is_ a 3 star or less game, although I'm betting against that, but in the meantime you've experienced some old time fun and yes maybe a little frustration, but mostly fun!
this, one of my most favorite of game series, has declined. Perhaps it is because of the story lines, but I think it more likely that someone doesn’t really understand Poe and the art of the story. The story line was disjointed and at times confusing, and the endings of both the main game and the bonus were abrupt, leaving many questions unanswered.
The HOS were ok. I really feel sorry for those who like the puzzles; in this game even I was bored with them.
At least the voice of Dupin was better, as in more mature, not sounding like a 17 year old. After all Dupin is supposedly a man of the world and at least in his 30’s. And in this latest story no one pronounced our hero’s name as “doop’-in” rather than the more correct “Do-pahn”. The villains also suffered from ennui. They needed more background, especially the old witch.
I did enjoy seeing the raggedy cat again. And the drawings of certain unique items were interesting.
In the end, though, I cannot recommend this game. If you haven't tried the earlier games, even though they might not be as technically advanced, I highly recommend the earlier games in this series, like "The Gold Bug" "The Fall of the House of Usher" and "The Mystery of Marie Roget"

Elegant graphics, plain rather than otherwise and very easy on the eye during the game. Love the snakes named Blackaddar and Baldric! Collectable ghost dolls in each scene.Good mystery. The Bonus was a sequel where they round up the one villain that escaped. My only problem was the chief Detective who was a bit of a git, talking very loudly to his assistant and repeating something like “We’ll talk more when we have evidence” over and over again in a loud voice. The only time he spoke in a normal voice is when he swanned in and presented all the evidence (that the assistant had procured). Definitely a git. The game as a whole is excellent though, with lots of clues and a meandering path to find the truth. I really enjoyed it.

I must admit I was skeptical when it came to combining some of my favorite characters; I'm an avid fan of Anna Gray and her ubiquitous skully Pa!) And I've followed the adventures of Detective Brown through the years (I loved how they incorporated some old familiar characters in the game). I've only played a few of the Haunted Hotels (he is less bizarre and creepy here), But the developers did a fair job, and I enjoyed the game very much, although it took some adjustment to the sharing of roles. Bottom line, it was a great story, took me a long time to play, and the bonus was excellent. I highly recommend this game:)
I really enjoyed this game. Had a strong flavor of Andre Norton, (if you don't know this writer, and enjoy the game, check out her books) with young people adventuring out among the Galaxies. The puzzles were mostly doable for me, which is a good sign. The HO’s were varied. The alien “queen” was really Alien! Looked like a cover from Amazing Stories in the 1940’s magazine or “Astounding” magazine, (pulp fiction from a bygone era, for you young folks. The game isn't terribly long, and the sequel also was rather short, but good, wrapping up some loose ends. This is a good solid game and I highly recommend it!
An excellent game in excellent series. Puzzles are good, especially the last one where you had to figure out a layered rock and number/rune placement. The Bonus game is, I think, a prequel to another in the series? or the next game. Anyway, this is a fine series, (with exceptions: see my review of The Lost Queen) with a good solid story line. I did take a point off for the series of puzzles where you collect statues to up your strength in a match 3 game, which was used EVERY time you had to fight an enemy. Old and boring after the first one; I ended up skipping these and not collecting all the statues but that was ok, because all they were good for was upping my strength level in the mini games, which I didn’t care for anyway. Even without these the game was excellent, characters interesting and story line kept pulling me along. I _almost_ waited for the SE version, but I'm glad I didn't as the bonus game was worth the extra cost! Try this out, I think you'll like it!
Less than 3 stars on BF and I agree. Standard plot and quest, it is not inventive or creative enough for a CE, so I opted for the SE with a free coupon. SO glad I did. Wooden characters, blah story line, even the HOS were boring and that is saying a lot for me as I generally like most HOPs unless they are junk piles. This is the first game ever I’m recommending to not even waste a free coupon on.
into this series! It has the same flavor as the "good old days" and for once I played this Eipix game without technical problems, unlike some of the releases this past year.
The plot line has some surprises and red herrings, and I loved the jungle themes and ancient civilisation touches.
Well worth the money, and the bonus chapter has you go back and pick up some of what you missed during the main game (no hints!)
