Excellent game, clear graphics, story driven, and great help when your stuck. Games are playable, I didn't do too well on the shooter types (racing against a clock or a timing based game) but I never do.
The cons (for some) would be woodenly drawn characters, darkish color palate (although you can see all very easily)
BUT: It has an ingenious story, drawing you into the game and keeps you going. You are Helen (an anthropologist?) based on a remote island and in trying to escape a murderous rebellion on one island you fly away and crash on an another jungle island, where right away you must save a person from being sacrificed. And you're off, fighting to save the universe.
What I also enjoyed were the drawing and illustrations of this hidden world, which was strange and familiar at the same time. I liked being able to wander around and see "the sights".
Dont get the wrong idea...this isn't a cheap rip off game, the values are great, the story is great and the engine doesn't slow down a bit. I love the newest games, with all the bells and whistles, but this is a special Adventure treat for those of us who grew up with the original adventure games like Zork or Myst.
For those of you who love Adventure games and don't need a lot of gimmicks, this is the game. It is so multilayered that it will be good to play it over in a couple of months.
They actually had a collection (of skulls) to find, but it wasn't necessary to the game and didn't interfere. I didn't quite get all of them, so I'm looking forward to trying again in future. There is no map, but a generous hint charger to lead you in the correct direction.
Cheers to Cateia Adventure Games and Big Fish. Let's have more like this!

This SE version almost has the quality of a CE game. I sure hope they do one and correct the (very) few problems (see below). Good: Beautiful graphics and nicely balanced puzzles and games. I played it on casual and will play again on a harder level...some of the puzzles solved them selves and I could see how they could be made more complicated. There were two lands to visit (one nice touch: they warned you when you weren't coming back so you could be sure you did everything.) The first land was one of trees and vegetation, and the second was of stone and metal; well contrasted. They even used a 3rd place to solve the problem of needed items, quite cleverly!
Bad: Well, not bad really but not ideal either. The game got only a 4 from me because 1. The music sometimes got a bit too repetitive, and boring. 2. The people were stiff and were placed about when they had to move like toy figures.
The story line hooked me with a young man following his fiancee who has been kidnapped into another world and they managed to not be all airy fairy or grim and gruesome, but quite intriguing anyway.
Definitely worth the price even though I was lucky enough to have a coupon for it.
Without warning, a group of mysterious figures arrives and reduces your village to flames and rubble. What do they want... and who is controlling them?
This game has been beautifully reviewed, I read/skimmed most of the reviews, but couldn't find one thing about what I think is super: an homage to old text games!
At one point you are shown a map and your path tracked by little marks. As you go you "stumble across" some helpful items. Brought back fond memories of the old text games. I'm going to play it over to see if i can find any more "Easter Eggs"
This should definitely be in the running for Game of the Year!
After a totally over the top and campy beginning, you are off to rescue your baby from the evil mage.
This is an excellent game for beginners and intermediates, because it gives plenty of sparkle hints and the story line is straightforward. Graphics are excellent and clear, as well as artistically interesting. I'm soooo tired of gorey graphics in HO games.
Having said that, I consider myself between an intermediate and expert gamer and I found it relaxing and amusing. Importantly the puzzles were not too many and do-able, an important factor when one wants a HIDDEN OBJECT game! Hint to HOG programmers:)
There is a map to help you jump from place to place, although the map places are pretty straightforward. Also a journal that gives some timely hints.
I can see how they could make a CE for this, as the Prince was still not accounted for at the end of the game. Actually I think he is better left off. (See campy and over the top reference above! <G>)
Another thing I liked for beginners is that the morphing objects were fairly obvious, and there were morphing objects in the HOPs as well, which teaches one an important lesson about HOG's - take your time.
The only thing I thought was poor was the music/sound effects, which were canned and distracting. Not to worry one can turn off the sound - I often like to listen to my own music while playing anyway.
So: get this game! It is well worth the price. Did I mention they had 4 hidden object games free at the end? Cool!
This, I can tell, is going to be among my favorites. A great story line, and the HOS are varied, not just the same old finding a thing, but matching things and figuring out shapes. Being Irish I love the setting :) and I care for the characters and they're not always transparent. The people who did this cared about the story enough to not make it the same old same old, but still and excellent HOG.
Basically it takes place in a vaguely "old" time in Ireland, and you're the granddaughter of a famous writer, (who is revealed as much more as the game goes on). There is a wicked witch (natch) but also humans both good and bad involved, as well as lots of fun critters, both good and bad.
And the fact they're offering another CE for only 2 bucks more is super. Can't wait to download it!
I recommend this game!

Excursions of Evil
Audrey makes her living writing about her extreme adventures. But will she be able to retell this tale?
No good explanation of game rules. Sketchy story line of investigating a haunted house. Suggests that this is a follow up of other games and assumes you know the characters. Standard HOS. I like that there are plenty of HOS but lack of engaging story line or characters makes this a disappointment. Almost as if the creators were dashing off a slap dash product.
