My main purchase history is games that i have (or add to) a series and this is why i purchased this game. I have a 8 games in this series. I do love the series and i did love this game (what was of it).
the good bits and the bad bits
- the demo lasted 90 minutes which was great however the game was very short so by the time i purchased it and replayed it the game was almost over - very disappointing.
- loved the options of playing either puzzles and hidden objects or a combination of both - very clever of the developers.
- the puzzles were on the easy side - which i don't mind because i am not a puzzle person but i do want to challenge myself.
- the bonus chapter - did i miss it ???? it was one puzzle.
Overall i thought that the game was good but it could have been excellent if there was more to it - the developers have to understand that we pay AUD16.00 for a collectors edition and it should last more than a couple of hours. Very disappointing because there was so little of it.
I don't normally purchase collectors edition because not interested in collecting all the objects but had two credits and this was on a intro special. still feel a bit ripped off.
I am going to say that i recommend the game because overall it was fun.
Try the demo (because it is so long) before purchasing - happy gaming :)
Rating should be 4.5 - i really liked this game - i have all the games in the series.
The hidden objects were mainly lists with a twist which was fun.
The puzzles were fun and achievable - even with a little thought. (I am not a puzzle person but i liked the challenge and completed 98% of them - only skipping on the puzzles that i don't have any time for...)
the storyline was true to the series (which is always a bonus) - it was great introduction giving some details to the previous games in the series but it also did well as a stand alone game.
i loved the information "facts" about Londoners in the early days - such as having the post delivered 12 times a day etc., - these were fun "facts".
As always true before you purchase - happy gaming :)
I wish there was something in the middle of "good" and "excellent" in the scoring because this was better than good but not excellent. I would probably has scored it 3.5.
i purchased this game when it was on special (1/2 price) i don't normally purchase CE games because i can't be bothered looking for all the extras however as this game was on special i purchased it after playing the demo.
I liked the demo it was funny for example the three little pigs - so this had lots of potential but didn't seem to raise to the challenge.
The hidden objects were interesting - pairing and lists (with a little twist) - better than the run of the mill hidden objects. I would have preferred if they mixed them up a little e.g. not do consecutive pairing and the consecutive listing. Why not pairing and then lists etc.,
I liked the puzzles - (had them on easy) - next time i will try hard.
Old enough i know how to rewind a cassette tape - so it was good to see that in there to just add that little bit ..........
The bonus chapter was a little bit of a let down - what happened to the music (very little or none).
Overall i enjoyed the game - but would never pay full price. 1/2 price or the same price as a SE version it appeared to be OK.
The hidden objects were not lists - which is a fantastic change to the norm.
The majority of the puzzles were easy enough - i am not a puzzle person - a couple were just dumb so i skipped through them.
(spoiler alert) - how can someone on a bike (who left after the car) beat the car ???? but it was good to see the detective on a bike.
Enjoyed the game. It will definately be a game that i will play again - and next time do it on "hard" not customs - the only reason i do custom is that i need a map ........... but will challenge myself. :)
not sure why the rating is so low - although i read the reviews i am pleased that i purchased this game.
Loved the helper (bird) and that i had to keep on reinventing him / her.
The hidden objects were varied (e.g. not just lists) and enjoyable.
I am not a puzzle person but enjoyed the puzzles (thought that they may have needed some more explanation but i guess that is what puzzles are about - you need to try and work it out) but it wasn't difficult.
This game was forgettable. About 5 minutes after i finished it i couldn't remember what it was about ............... it was just boring.
This is the first game i have ever given a 1 star to Usually i give a higher score giving the developers the benefit of the doubt that it was just me .......... but this game was forgettable.
i have a number of mystery case file games - and in general i liked them - however this one only has the name attached - it has nothing else to do with the "mystery case file" theme.
I played the CE version and thought that it was OK and put in on my list of when SE version becomes available - and i was happy to purchase it because i had other Mystery Case file games.
I had a free game and purchased this SE version - and personally i think a free game was a waste of a game for this. I know it was my fault i should have played the game again but............under pressure to use the free game (still no excuse)
I understand from one of the reviewers that the developers have changed - what i ask is that if you make games which have a series linked to it you really need to keep the theme. Otherwise you are trading on the Mystery Case file title - as some people don't play demo before they purchase.
The game could have been called The Harbinger - because Mystery Case file didn't exist.
love the new york mysteries - they are true to the storyline in each of them which means they keep true to the series.
The developers have done a fantastic job on her outfit - and i love the little red car :)
I purchased this game at the start of the lockdown (2020) but didn't finish it - i started again and finished the game.
I found the puzzles (and i am not a puzzle person) needed a little more information. They have also changed the hidden objects to includes lists (but still they were fun).
I love the tunnel system (wouldn't that be so cool).
The great thing about this series is that if she does have assistant - they actually assist and not stand about doing nothing.
Definitely a great game - try before you purchase - happy gaming :)
I recommend this game!

New York Mysteries: Secrets of the Mafia
Discover a story of mysterious kidnappings of both children and mafiosi.
i haven't purchased these in order - this appears to be the first game but i purchased it last. But still it was a very fun game AND now it all makes sense why she does what she does.
I do love this series of games - they keep the story honest to itself. It is always along the same storyline - same characters but the disasters are all different.
I love the details - the developers have taken a lot of care to make sure it is within the same theme.
I loved all the puzzles (and i am not a puzzle person). The hidden objects - you just get use to how they did it in this series - it is still fun trying to find the objects.
What i really love is (a) there is no sidekick who does nothing but stand around while you do all the work and (b) you have to make a note of the clues - they aren't giving to you just because you have found them.
I love the fact that you can travel anywhere in the tunnels. How cool would that be.
