This game is awesome. Reading some of the reviews I almost didn't try for myself. Even after trying I thought it might be difficult but once I learned the mechanics of movement and more about the obstacles that were NOT detailed in the directions I started loving this game. I think it's the best match 3 ever. I'll try and clear up some of the misunderstandings in this review but first why I think it's great . This game has so many levels . I think if you love strategy, mazes and cute characters you will love this game. It is most similar to Hello Venice but not a duplicate. I love this much better because it is swipe instead of click and drag. Also I love the characters and it has an actual story which is rare for a match 3. Freeing the Spritlings is so much fun. All the obstacles once you know how to remove or avoid them feels rewarding once accomplished because you are going somewhere, not just clearing a board. Also adding items on the board to collect is innovative, they do not have to drop off; you just need to clear the path to them and get your avatar to fetch.
This is a NEW game and must have been changed from collector's edition, also new, to SE. It is well worth the buy and you should ignore the not so good reviews. Either bugs have been fixed-they do say REMASTERED- or perhaps people were too quick to review and not in the mood for a strategy match 3 or unfamiliar with the mechanics. I do wish sometimes all match 3's had two options to play unlimited for times when you just want to swipe, but that's when I play another game. My recommendation is don't just try, buy. You will be glad when you get the hang of it.
Goals of game. You choose your avatar either ZAP or BOOM and lead him/her to free the Spritlings. The goals are clear and needs no explanation. You know at beginning of level and it's posted in the top corner of board. ALL goals must be completed before level ends even if you free the Spritlings.
Movement: Your avatar moves only when the tiles underneath them are broken. You will see blue water flow through board if path is clear. Let your mouse rest on Zap or Boom and you can easily see token underneath them. Remember dark tiles need two matches to clear. When starting out you will see arrow pointing to the SHORTEST path. You can start breaking the tiles in this direction or if you see an EASIER path then just clear the path you prefer. The arrow will AUTOMATICALLY redirect once path is clear. There is no need to double click token to change direction. Just ignore the avatar and follow the water flow.
Picking up items AND redirecting: Sometimes your avatar will PASS items if not directly in cleared path. If so, you must guide them by changing direction. It is a little quirky and sometimes you must try different tokens around them MORE THAN ONCE. This is the only problem I found but is minor. There is no timer so ok if occasionally takes a bit to make them follow your direction. The automatic arrow will DISAPPEAR. Clicking on ANOTHER token that is in the direction you want them to go that is the SAME COLOR they are standing on works best if going in a straight line , OR clicking token a few times somewhere NEAR them if going up, down or turning around. Remember, ALL THE PATH MUST BE CLEAR and only one direction at a time. Moves are not counted moving avatar. Only redirecting by double clicking erases the automatic arrow so if after picking up item they just wait, continue with clearing path to cages and don't worry about them unless you need to pick up another item, you'll need to guide them unless arrow reappears,
Playing all parts of the board: You are not limited to only play where your avatar is standing. Best strategy is to look around board to clear path where matches are available and it will trigger cascades sometimes freeing up your blockage or collecting mana for your hammer by matching green tokens. Then you can go back and unblock path. The zoom is ideal for this purpose and I had no problem with control. I do have the wheel on my mouse. They also have arrows on board if you click will take you in that direction.
Power ups: Powerful, use them, makes game so much more fun. They really can clear a path and make all the difference. Especially the multicolor which removes all tokens of same color you swipe it with, and this one does NOT need to be included in a match 3. yippie
Obstacles: BLOCKERS : The heart blockers must fill with specific color matches you make that are in the VICINITY. They start out empty but if you hover mouse over blocker the board will turn the color that is needed. This is very helpful since limited moves. And it doesn't have to be a match right next to them. ROCKS: do need matches, any color, next to them to break. I prefer to take a different route if you see BOULDERS. I'm hoping they will have a boulder breaker power up in later levels because it takes quite a few before they are broken. The IMP: he must be STANDING on the match to injure repeatedly or caught up in a cascade to kill. Don't waste moves; he might move directly on a match. WHEN to kill him is the strategy.
As far as the artwork and imagination it took to develop this game I cannot give enough props. Its a beautiful quirky world that you find yourself in just exploring. Your mission is a simple one. Find all the leaves. I am just memorized playing this game.
It makes you feel like you've just dropped out of reality and landed on this fantastic planet. Of course you don't know the language so there is no directions. Everything is a discovery. You just got to play with things, try different stuff and see what works. It is so much to discover, even the pull down inventory and your collectables with the map and magnifier is an ah ha moment. It makes you feel like an explorer. When's the last time you felt like a two year old just thinking, hmm should I put this in my mouth. I am just loving this. I guess it's kind of like being a caveman and discovering fire.
The artwork is so beautiful and unique. I love being in this world among these very unique creatures. If you are the kind that likes directions that tell you what you need to do, this game is not for you; but if you are a trekkie and love to explore the unknown you will have such a grand time.
A word of advice. Don't try and conquer this game quickly. Do a little at a time and ponder. It is a big escape from reality you will enjoy coming back to time and time again.
You would think game developers had a creative mind but with this game all they did was add different backgrounds. I thought it would at least have something relating to Doodle god game in which they were innovative. Couldn't we get something besides mulligans, shuffle and joker?? Why not a lightning strike to knock off a card or tornado to shuffle? Or how about combine two ACES and get a joker that way instead of buying with the coins. Two queens for a shuffle, or whatever. Anything but the same old solitaire game. Game creators are just putting out the same old games and just changing the artwork. Games that are better than this in it's genre are Holiday Solitaire Easter and Strike Solitaire 3 Dream Resort. Easter solitaire has beautiful pastel colors that are much prettier than this art in doodle god and Strike solitaire has innovative type game play in which the scoring is done just like bowling score. You try and get strikes and spares that increase your score. I am very disappointed with this game and do not recommend it at any price.
This is a match same type card game. Unlike some of these type solitaire games you will get enough power ups to win the level. If you buy the wildcard purse and scissors they will regenerate every level and you don't have to keep buying them. I LOVED this feature. Then you can upgrade and get an additional throw away card from board. You can also buy additional wildcards but I don't know if more than one will regenerate every level but you do earn coins as you play to purchase more. Also this has the usual shuffle, undo, reveal cards, deck count, choose your deck style and some more goodies to give this game good variety and fun factor.
You get unlimited tries to beat level and if you strategize with a little luck you will pick when's the best time to match a card you need verses keeping it on board for a future match. Only the hat cards are needed to win. The icon is on the top corner of your card and visible even if card is turned over so you know which piles to go for to get to them.
review based on trial. I got up to level 10. only had to replay one level over before I purchased wildcard purse and scissors. I will purchase game.
This game has super great graphics and filled with all types of strategy match 3 gameplay. AND if you just want to get your swipe on without much thinking it has the relax mode. It is a very unique game.
Flipping over the buttons gives you a good strategy and some luck to your play. It won't count moves if you luck up while turning the button and it scores. Also clicking bombs and gold coins don't count as a move and it gives you decent cascades in the game for the fun value.
I think it is loaded with all the good things that make a match 3 fun. It has nice and colorful tokens, power ups, reward for bigger matches, variation on each level, coins and stars and a choice in mode to think or just go crazy matching.
There is no timer in either mode but a nice challenge in both to finish the board clearing background tiles and list of items. I had no problem on my large screen looking for the green background tiles especially if you flipped the buttons, but there is no rush to find it. I'm glad it's a nice calm color and they don't glare out at you giving eye strain.
There are all different types of match 3's. I think this game gives a good variation for the player who enjoys untimed and challenge. And this has a nice cute theme. So sick of the ancient places of Egypt and Rome, gloomy tiles, witches cauldrons and chopping wood and mining stones, uggh. I love the cartoons and pretty colors but got enough jewels and butterflies. This is pretty unique, buttons!!
This game has 3 modes. Why they didn't put all three of these in the options button is very confusing. Starting out it looks like only two modes : casual meaning easy with a greater amount of moves, and normal, but it does have a relax mode also. You can choose this option in game at bottom of playing board for unlimited moves.
If you want challenge choose normal. I found casual playing best suited for me because you don't have to strategize every move and it was sufficient to win level. It gives you a little less challenge trying to get 3 stars and still enjoy carefree swapping. If you choose the relaxed mode you cannot compete for stars. You will only get one star per level. The amount of coins you win is dependent on the amount of stars you earn. No level is timed but it does have obstacles that grow on board that you need to remove before it spreads. Ex. water tiles will flood your board or chocolate will melt which will give you more obstacles to remove to win level.
Another confusing thing is the layout of board. Some levels you need to use the power ups to finish the board or else you can't get at the obstacles that need removing. Ex is level 12. you MUST use the hammer to click the top tile that is offset of the game board. They will have other levels throughout game similar to this where you will have stagnant tiles that have no moves unless you use a certain power up.
Third confusing thing is the solitaire games. They are located in different buildings in the hotel scene that you buy with your coins. The janitor room, the balloon stand, the ice cream shop, the bar and the pavilion. After you buy these bldgs. you can click on them and play a higher, lower solitaire, but all of them are the same. I thought you could play for the corresponding power-ups like the hammer, balloon, ice cream, and arrow, but after each win it only awards an undo for the card games and coins. I WANT POWER-UPS TO USE FOR THE M3. Oh well, that is very confusing if it only unlocks them, but yet you can go back and continue to play only for coins. But why do we need 5 SAME TYPE solitaire mini games in 5 different buildings? I played 5 games of solitaire in the balloon shop and thought I would get 5 balloons, but I didn't . If anyone can figure that out can you please state it in a review. I'm confused.
But overall it is still a great game. Love the O.J. when it explodes and all the coins dropping. Smooth graphics, colorful fun tiles, contemporary theme, great cascades. Its full of obstacles but not too many to make it tedious. Has good power ups you must drop off board. Mini game to get extra coins is a plus. Story is ok but you can skip if you just want to play M3. Also loved serving the clients by matching 4 or more, that was unique.
My only con is not being able to generate more of the power ups except for the orange juice. I guess it adds to the challenge but if you could save it and use wherever you want on the board would of been more fun. The other power ups that drop off the board are limited in number and must save for the stagnant pieces to pass level. So use them wisely or you will be confused how to finish the level.
I recommend this game!

Excellent game you must have in your M3 collection
This is right up there with Floria, Lauraville, Cursed House and 7 wonders, Alien Makeover. It's a got to have for your M3 collection.
There is plenty of variety in gameplay. You get quite a few divers that have different ranges of experience and a special ability. You can play with any of the characters back and forth on each level. Every time you play with the character their experience will increase. Experience determines how much oxygen they have to dive, and also how much artifacts they collect which gives you your level rating of gold silver or bronze.
The shop has so many upgrades and power ups that you can buy from the treasure you collected. You start out with only one item you can carry with you, but as your player gains more experience the tool belt can be upgraded to carry more. You get coins from the left over oxygen each dive, the artifacts you collected and the treasure chest you fill by making matches.
GREAT THINGS ABOUT THIS GAME:
Challenge of levels are determined not only by board layout but which player you choose. If you like a hard game choose a less experienced player. It also adds a lot of variety because all players have different special ability. Stick with the same player to build their experience or challenge yourself with different players. The challenge is up to you.
Graphics are beautiful. Tokens change throughout game. Oxygen meter is so much more fun than a timer.
Untimed mode available
Story is very interesting
Collecting treasure is fun. Also artifacts which must be brought down to bottom. They can only go out through exits, one character can turn the board to make this easier or use the directional power up to switch position of artifact.
Before starting level it will tell you shape of board, difficulty, obstacles you will encounter and treasures to be collected.
You can replay any level to get better score of gold, silver or bronze and use different characters or power ups.
I like M3'S when they give control of WHERE you place the power up and also how often you can GENERATE them. By making matches with specific tokens you will generate enough energy to fill up the power up. ex. Match 3 or more of a kind -of gun tokens will fill up the grenade, then you place it wherever you need it on board. Each different power up has its own specific token to match. In the trial I only got up to purchasing 3 power ups, the hammer, grenade and laser. They generate fairly quickly by making matches so they are sufficient in clearing the board within the time limit if you choose not to play untimed mode. ONLY if you Match 5 of a kind you get the sun which is set where you make the match. No, it is not that powerful but you don't need it to be with all the other power ups you will get every time you progress in the story. The first chapter you will be putting out all the fires to move the story and game along. Don't know if this is all you will be doing throughout the 8 chapters. Hope not.
Pro's : various power ups that generate at your control.
smooth mechanics of graphics swiping
purpose to making matches: to get enough to progress storyline with purchases and obtaining energy for power ups.
grading levels with stars
Con's: uses a window's system curser
tedious gameplay in being more a concentrated gameplay instead of a bunch of explosions but this depends on the players preference,
didn't see a replay level button to improve rating. -or did I??
game tokens are so-so but no wiggle or jiggle nor beautiful.
storyline not unique
This is the same developer and designer that made The Chronicles of Noah's Ark. I enjoyed and purchased that game because of the unique storyline. Wish they would of stuck to the spiritual themes that are hardly ever told because I've heard a million and one detective stories, nothing unique.
The best thing about this game is it has a variety of skill levels. You can play easy, medium and hard. It is sure to hit your level of challenge with those options. Also you can play against your opponent Dr. Al Literate in which you have to beat him by making words before his test tube fills up. The bigger your word the faster your test tube fills. You can also play in relax mode. Take your time to make enough words from a set of letters anagram style, only rule is you use center letter in word. This gives you the most freedom in making words because you don't have to use adjacent letters.
This is not really a spoiler alert but I think would make reviews better if known. Ok, at first I was discouraged when trying this game. I'm glad I hung in there. I did get up to level nine with difficulty. Then I became frustrated because it kept telling me to buy fishing lure. I didn't have any money left. The trick is you have to re play low level again and again to get the cash. Keep upgrading things in shop and buy better gear to get you through levels easier. I went back to level one with only boat and rod upgrade and I was catching fish like crazy. And every time I passed it added coins to my purse. Yippie,
So I am building up money and going to buy the fishing lure. hopefully that will make catching fish on level nine easier because they avoid the rod in that level. Also the mines get on your nerves so I just exploded them right away in the level so I can get clear fishing space.
I haven't bought the knife yet but I hope it cuts the line so you won't waste time picking up fish or junk you don't need to finish level. Fish that are not a part of the goals only add star rating but you still fail level if you don't get the required type. I don't understand that feature but maybe it will add value in later levels?? I think it should add more coins if anything. I really didn't pay attention to whether it does or not. In any case the knife does add more money to your finished level so you can get upgrades faster.
The fishing rod upgrade does make for a faster cast so be patient. Game does get better with upgrades. Also boat gets faster so you can chase fish down.
Only one problem I didn't like fishing rod with no ability to reel line in after cast. You have to wait for full cast and return therefore this makes timing very essential to gameplay. You can use this feature to your advantage and just chase the fish while line is retracting. All you need to do is get rod to tap on fish. You don't have to catch them by the mouth.
As far as all the junk in the water this is meant to be an obstacle to time. They do have a power up to clean up the water for coins, I am looking forward to the level where treasure is added among the junk.
Too bad there is no instructions which would of avoided all the frustration. Also can't find the timer on playing board that your goals must be completed before it stops game and says you haven't finished goals and opts for replay. If you are having difficulty you probably need better equipment. I think a lot of the early reviews are based on playing without any upgrades. . You definitely need to keep playing lower levels to build up your purse. So stay at level one or another level you can pass easier before moving on and rake in the money. Fishing will get fun.
