No map, but there is a journal and a good guide. Storyline could have been so much better. The hint loads quickly, and is good in HOS. It also points the direction you need to go outside of HOS. Graphics were not good, but audio was very good. The actors doing the voices did a good job. Game mechanics very slow. Each time I finished a task, my screen would go black for several seconds before the next scene appeared. That is unusual for my powerful iMac. A LOT of HOS, but those HOS contained objects from several centuries and places. Two examples: 1) a 20th century American baseball; 2) the pipe wrench wasn't invented until 1870.
I don't recommend this game.

This story had great potential, but the gameplay was too slow. The game mechanics were old school. Moving from one scene to the next was a very slow process. Very good hints let you teleport to areas with tasks, so no map was needed. A lot of HOS.
I don't recommend this game.

Elephant has put together a beautiful game with lots to do. Different kinds of puzzles, lots of HOS, a map that lets you transport, good vocals, beautiful music. There are tasks, such as gathering flowers from different seasons for a vase, which you then use in a puzzle. There is a lot of running around, back and forth, so being able to teleport is a huge plus. In casual mode, the puzzles and HOS are easy to moderately challenging. Since the voices were easy to listen to, I didn't mute them. Thumbelina also says funny things when you click on the wrong object, or she says "Now why did I think that would work?" There is no raven queen in Hans Christian Andersen's original story, but I think he would have liked the queen, and Elephant has made it work, almost 200 years later. Great game.
I recommend this game!

Took a few minutes for this game to grab me, but I was hooked after that and will buy as soon as I get paid. This game is not HOS at all, but pure adventure. Great cartoony graphics, good music and ambient sounds, good vocals, good journal. Very good hints. The strategy guide is very good as well, with text and pix; plus it follows you, so you don't have to find the right page. However, you can go forward or backward in the guide as well. The storyline is a mixture of creepy, scary and campy. Played in casual mode, not too difficult. It would have been a great Halloween game, if it had come out a month ago. There is only one problem with the game, but I got used to it. The lead character talks constantly. But you can turn the vocals off.
I recommend this game!

This game has a lot going for it. Live actors, new kinds of puzzles and HOS, map that lets you teleport, good hints, good journal. Good vocals, ambient sounds, and appropriate music. The Strategy Guide, though, is strange. It only has pix, and only shows you what to do in the room you're in at the time. In order to find everything on an HOS list, you have to travel from room to room, and also zoom into drawers, cabinets, etc. Puzzles are different, too, such as the one with 4 squares of a video, and when you try to connect the wrong ones, they bounce off each other.
Storyline: an evil, ancient object with runes on it, causes people who touch it to become deranged. You're hired by a psychic to find out the whole story, and get to the bottom of the negative energies that have turned an entire town into a ghost town.
I recommend this game!

The memory is as fresh as if it happened yesterday, instead of the day before my 16th birthday, 49 years ago. I was a freshman in high school, happily day-dreaming about my birthday party, when the school superintendent announced President Kennedy's death over the loudspeaker. Most of us girls were crying, and the boys just sat there, stunned. The news that "Jack" Kennedy, as he was known then, had been assassinated was a huge blow.
I wasn't sure if I wanted to play this game, but decided to try it out. What a let-down. This game has the look and feel of one that was made a few years ago. A lot of easy HOS. Easy puzzles. Some animation, no voice-overs. The graphics are beautiful. Music is soft and suspenseful. There is a map, but it doesn't let you teleport. There is a journal, as well. I almost never say "Don't recommend" but this game is awful.
I don't recommend this game.

This game reminds me of the horror stories told around the campfire when I was a kid. Once you've played an hour or so, the storyline becomes predictable. Good strategy guide, but not really necessary, because the game isn't that difficult. Live actors used for the ghosts, but the most evil tree is a little too cartoony. Good vocals. Very good ambient sounds. Sad music. Graphics are grainy in HOS, but the cut scenes have great graphics. Some of the puzzles are new, others are standard.
I recommend this game!

Music is great. Graphics are good. Vocals are good. No map, but there is a book that has sections for notes, clues, puzzles, etc. There is a lot to do in this intuitive game: Easy-to-moderately difficult puzzles, mini-games, HOS, seek-and-find, etc. The hint circle will point to another room, while the text says "Nothing to do here."
I started reading Ray Bradbury and Arthur C. Clarke at the age of 14, so was looking forward to this game, thinking it might be like one of their stories. However-- I got the distinct impression the developer had several isolated teams working on different parts of the game, and suddenly the deadline came. So, they just mashed all the parts together, and released the game. It's very disjointed.
The puzzles, mini-games, etc. are good, though. So, if the storyline is not important to you, this game should be fun.
I recommend this game!

Again, we face the evil demon that looks like a little gnome. This game has great graphics, and the puzzles are fun, but easy. Voice-overs are good. Music is the same as it is in the other Haunted Legends games. Game was so easy in casual mode, I did not have to use the strategy guide. Should have opened the guide, though to see what it was like. There is a good journal. Hidden object games are interactive. You find one object, and use it to find the next, then you use the 2nd object to find the 3rd, etc.
All-in-all, this is a very good game-- IF you like zombies / undead, and and a few gruesome scenes. I do not like games or movies about zombies / undead, but that is a matter of personal taste.
I recommend this game!

The game mechanics are fairly standard. A lot of HOS, unfortunately, but there are also puzzles to do. In casual mode, I did not need the strategy guide. Very good hints let you teleport to areas with tasks.
Terrible accidents, tragic story, combined with gentle, soothing music. Not a good combination. Good vocals and graphics. While everyone has done things they regret, Emily's is a biggie. Emily's mother has always blamed her for her father's death, even though Emily was a small child at the time. In a coma after a terrible traffic accident, Emily is given the chance to fix her past mistakes, and also change the relationship with her mother from resentful to loving. Her mother's spirit tells Emily she wants to heal their relationship. The spirit who gives her this chance to fix things follows Emily's progress and tells her she's on the right path.
This game had so much potential, and I wanted to love it, but it didn't grab me. Too much back and forth. Too many HOS. It became tedious.
I recommend this game!
