I must first say, I was so dismayed with the last MCF game (after being an avid fan), that I was leery of buying this one.
But I read the reviews and they were all so positive, I thought OK, I'll give them one more shot.
So glad I took the chance. This is one of their best, in all aspects. So intriguing, it took me almost a week to complete. The puzzles are mind boggling, to begin with. But after the first one, and you kind of have an idea what they're after, the next ones become a little easier to solve. The HOGs are actually fun, not annoying and bothersome (as some tend to be).
You'll be flipped back and forth in time, and all during the game, you need to check Madame Fate's notebook for fun mini puzzles and clues.
But the most interesting aspect, for me, came in the Bonus Chapter, and that's why it's better to get the CE version.
Usually Bonus Chapters are just an extension of the game, which this was, but it became so much more by the creation of something not available in the main game. Madame Fate's notebook becomes a passageway to another dimension.
The bad side of this game is knowing that not many other games will compare as favorably, and I'm probably in for some major disappointments.
MCF just set the bar up several notches!
I recommend this game!

I have loved jigsaw puzzles since forever. The bigger and more complicated the better.
Although this game can't compete with really large puzzles, it's great for what it does have.
Any number of trays (boxes) are available to store puzzle pieces and get them off your board.
Pieces and number of pieces are customizable. And you have the option to make pieces static or able to rotate. Static and snap-to options make the game easier and faster.
Being a computer game and not a boxed game, where 1000+ pieces can lay sprawled all over your table indefinitely, having only a few hundred or less, is still challenging but much quicker to solve.
And does anyone really want to take weeks to do a jigsaw puzzle on their computer?
There are also a ton of pictures to choose from, and with options of size and quantity for the pieces, even a very young child can have fun playing this.

What a treat to get away from all the eye strain I get, searching in all the HOGs, and have some fun. It's so nice to find a game that's enjoyable, addictive and never ending!
I play this at least once a day. You can stop anywhere in the game and continue or start a new game.
I didn't realize, when first playing, that when you've reached enough points to go to the next level, you don't have to. You can continue and earn more points.
Also, everything's alphabetical. Duh! That actually took me awhile to figure out too. And it helps to know that, when you're trying to figure out the word you need to make.
I highly recommend this game.

My only negative on this game was the lip sync being off.
My pluses were many.
This was an SE, but had a final, separate chapter anyway, which gave it as much length as many CEs.
The ambient music was perfect.
The graphics were nice, nothing too dark or obscure.
The storyline was different and interesting. It didn't leave you wondering the point of the plot.
The puzzles were just difficult enough to not make you want to pull your hair out.
I enjoyed it enough to write a review. Games have to be either really good or really bad for that.

Nice graphics, and sound throughout, although the wicked enchantress's voice and cackle got on my nerves. She's not in it enough to ruin the game entirely.
I simply fell in love with little old Spindler (the morose mechanical puppet doomed to a life of spinning yarn and knitting for others) and kept clicking on him to hear more of his one liners.
i.e. "There used to be a mirror up here, but it broke, probably because of my reflection."
Very funny and cute, and another cutie is the "bounty hunted" leprechaun character.
Now I've got to point out that I'm NOT a spider fan, and if the fun factor hadn't been added in with the extra characters, this game might have creeped me out.
I played the SE in Hard mode, and really only had to check the walkthrough (which, at this time, is not on BFG) to help me find a rose in one of the mini games, and then another time to find out what a turkish delight was. Who knew?
There was a good variety of HOGs and puzzles and places to go, and play lasted several hours. The puzzles were pretty easy, but the HOGs were a decent challenge.
This game might be too easy in regular mode, but I wasn't able to find out because I couldn't switch modes back and forth in this game, as in some others (hence the need to find a walkthrough).
All in all, it was quite enjoyable to play and I only wish I could have kept Mr Spindler to place on my desktop, and click occasionally for a good chuckle.
I recommend this game!

Can't say enough. This was totally enjoyable. Just a whole lot of fun and not bogged down with a gazillion HOGs. Interesting characters and plot. Nice graphics and a game I think anyone would enjoy.
I did not purchase the CE game, but this game alone was quite lengthy and you move into several worlds with lots to do in each, so I was not disappointed.
Granted there is one ridiculously difficult puzzle, but it comes toward the end. And the only other problem I ran into, was the glass cutting.
To save anyone from all the hassle (and I don't think this qualifies as a spoiler alert, but don't read on if you're a purist) you don't need to trace with the glass cutter, it's a mere click.
I recommend this game!

I do have a tendency to only post, when I'm really disappointed with a game. So, I decided awhile ago to post for good games as well.
Unfortunately, there are fewer of those, or I have a different sense of enjoyment than others.
I'm not sure how long this game has been out. I usually buy on sales and then only pick games that have a ton of great reviews.
This game hit all the checks on my list for a great game.
#1 - LONG
#2 - NICE graphics with clear and not overly bright or super saturated with color.
#3 - INTERESTING HOGs
#4 - DIFFICULT without being impossible
#5 - GREAT and UNUSUAL puzzles - Now here it didn't really hit the mark, as there were few actual puzzles. But the whole story line and game was one nice puzzle, so I'm letting this slide.
#6 - GOOD storyline that made sense and had a beginning and conclusion.
I bought the CE, but have only finished the main game so far, and I feel it alone can stand up to many CEs I've played recently. I'm so happy, I still have the bonus game to play!
I recommend this game!

This is a strange game!
There are some Extremely easy HO's, and a good mix of easy to difficult puzzles.
The scenes are intriguingly well done and the game length is quite decent.
You'd think it was a worthwhile game, so why did I score it so low. Well...
Most of the storyline is junk, that appears to be written for the really young because no adult would be able to sit through too many of those stupid "letter scenes" without skipping forward. But, but, but, if this is designed for a younger player why did they end it in such a creepy, unresolved manner?
I'm not sure what they were thinking. If they wanted an edgy, creepy psycho storyline, why downplay the language and treat the player like a 5 year old?
This game doesn't know where it's going. I think they got lost in E.G.'s mind, and should have stayed there.
Also, the acting is, well to be nice, sub-par.
I don't recommend this game.

I usually read the reviews and purchase games that meet a 4 1/2 to 5 star rating. I didn't read the reviews this time, because I had been waiting so long for the next MCF,
and couldn't believe that it was getting a poor rating.
I thought something must be wrong with the other reviewers.
I'm sorry fellow BFG players. I will never distrust your judgement again.
I was hoping for the atmosphere I got in 13th Skull, with great acting that ADDS to the game. Instead, either the actors or director decided to make the characters cheesy, which was amusing. But this is MYSTERY Case Files, remember?
So now there's no mysterious atmosphere, but maybe there'll be good puzzles. NO. Although I think there were one or two that weren't bad, the continual rotating jigsaw puzzles made me dizzy and ready to throw my computer across the room.
But the topper, which to me was just short of criminal, was to make the morphing objects the bonus game play.
I'm going to think very seriously of ever purchasing an MCF game again. They should be ashamed, when other companies keep producing better and better, they come up with this!
I don't recommend this game.

Loved the voices and sound effects. Puzzles and HOS's were challenging, but not daunting so as to give up quickly. Long game play, and interesting ending twist.
Make sure to check out the artwork in the Extras. Darkly funny stuff.
