This is a cute little game that offers more logical thinking than most other games. Things that need to be accomplished are done in ways that actually make sense.
I liked the graphics a lot and the ambient music fit well with the storyline.
Some of the HOPs were interactive, but the game probably has more adventure than HOPs. Most of the puzzles had a moderate level of difficulty. I played in Hardest mode, so was given no skip or hints, yet I was logically able to figure out what to do.
For these reasons, I definitely recommend this game.
I recommend this game!

After being very disappointed with some of the newer games, where technical efforts appear to be more important than fun, challenging mind games and logic, I checked out this older game that had mostly good reviews.
This one started out strangely childish and, like one other reviewer (who really should have played longer), I felt it was for younger children. Plus the graphics seemed really old-school, and I've been used to more technically realistic games lately. The positive thing about the graphics is that they're dark, not so dark that you can't see anything, but dark enough to give a sinister effect.
It does have strange little characters with creepy/silly voices, but that's it's only downside.
The more you play, the more fun it becomes. There are probably more HOPs than I care for, as I'm more an adventure player. And because of it's age, you won't find any interactive HOPs. But they are fairly difficult.
I can't quite put my finger (pun you'll get if you play the game) on what makes this game so special. But it is. I've played many, many games for several years now, and this one is very unique.
Since I can't find many new games to like lately, I think I'll go snooping around for more of these older gems.
I recommend this game!

I bought this based on lots of good reviews. Does no one else see all the discrepancies, or even care?
What era is this story based in anyway? It appears to start off a couple hundred years ago in a European town. Then we have a dancer wearing an outfit that would have been outlawed at that period of time, a big game hunter from the turn of the 20th century and a little girl with an outfit out of the 1940's. They may as well have had a Mercedes pull up along side the carriage.
And what's going on anyway? First it's the organ grinder taking his revenge, but then there's a dragon, a headless knight, a giant cobra and next we find Dracula? When I came upon Dracula, I just threw my hands up in the air and cried foul, then immediately came here to leave a review.
I'm seriously concerned about the education of these game makers. Is all this weirdness deliberate, hallucinogenic or have they no clue as to a bit of history and do they actually think their characters and storyline make sense? Are they all laughing at our purchases?
Obviously, there's a fair amount of artistic talent and a good amount of computer skill involved with all these games. Yet time and time again, these games are ruined by a horrible or ridiculous storyline and/or an inconsistency with the time frame.
I'm sure I speak for all us gamers when I say (as many others have) that I really want to like these games. I really want to play something I'll remember and come back to play again later, not something I can't stand to continue playing.
I don't recommend this game.

This story line was a bit confusing, however the game play was far superior to many I've played lately. If I want an excellent story, I read a book. What I want here is a good game.
The story just needs to be good enough to keep the search and quests going in some logical path. There was only one moment when I couldn't think how to solve a situation and had to use the "hint" button, and when the solution was revealed I thought "really, is that your solution?", because it just seemed lame.
But, that only occurred once. Most things seemed to follow some kind of logic, which so many games lack.
And there was one puzzle I just couldn't understand (the one with the four computer screens and the whole + - x). The demos were supposed to be helpful, but they weren't (IMO).
That being said, all the other puzzles took a bit of pondering, but I was finally able to figure them out. I like a good challenge. And I like that the MCF puzzles always have an old, over-used look to them. I don't know why, but it seems to add to the creepy atmosphere.
The graphics, ambiance, music and sound effects were all fantastic. There was a nice, sinister feel throughout the game that didn't get stupid, overdone or fake. A mystery should feel like a mystery!
Overall, I was very delighted with this latest MCF.
I recommend this game!

If you just want a long game, you're in luck with this one.
I really wanted to like this game. I bought it on the recommendation of one the reviewers (who I previously respected). But even if I had demoed it first, I probably would have purchased it, because it's a bit deceiving. It doesn't start out too badly. But when it starts going downhill, it never put on any brakes.
Possibly if the voice overs and stupid looking nemesis characters were different, it might not have been as bad. At least I wouldn't have started cringing, clicking SKIP as quickly as I could.
My feelings were all over the board on this one. I like length, and a good amount of puzzles, which I got. But why, why, why did they have to run it down to cheesy level.
When the main game was over, I had hopes for the bonus. But my hopes were dashed almost immediately. Dashed and smashed to smithereens.
I don't recommend this game.

The two songs (and you'll know them when you hear them) were the only thing I found bad about this game, and probably some players liked them, (but they'd have to be under 6).
But putting them aside, this is by far one of the best games I've played this year. (Of course that's not saying a whole lot, as there have been some real losers lately.) Still, it can stand up with many of the best games that have come out in the past few years.
As far as length (Nevertales seems to be neverending), gaming (good adventure and HOS), background music (very appropriate and kinda catchy), artwork (gorgeous), lip syncing (spot on) and overall fun, I feel this game totally deserves a solid 5 stars.
The storyline is one you can actually follow too! That alone is amazing in comparison to many other games!
I did however feel a little sorry for the poor owl, who wasn't given much to do, and spent most of his time sleeping. Kinda like he'd been forgotten. Maybe if he'd sung those songs...
I recommend this game!

I truly loved the first Cadenza and was hoping for a similar game, but this seemed contrived and silly. But the graphics were nice and I liked all the people's shadows in the apartment building windows.
Unfortunately, graphics alone can't make a game.
The music is nice, but the original soundtrack is much better.
And then there was this strange time warp where it appears, by the cars used, that the era is the 40's, yet our heroine uses CPR. Uh, uh. CPR was not around back then. There were a couple other inconsistencies, but I'll never know what other's there were because I just couldn't keep playing.
I do get soooo tired of games where this is an issue. And I run into them all the time. I usually don't complain, if the game is really fun.
Hey, I have an idea. Google search first, before assuming something is relevant to the time period you're portraying.
I really, really wanted to like this game...
I want to like all of them, actually.
I don't recommend this game.

Perhaps this game gets better, but 20 minutes into the demo was about all I could take.
The settings were dismal and plain and there were no voice overs. The dialog was all scripted. Now, maybe things improved later on in the game. But you pretty much have to show what you've got up front to grab the audience's attention and reel them in.
This reminded me of a game that might have been cutting edge in 2000 or earlier.
I don't recommend this game.

I think some have viewed this game as creepy. I didn't.
This entry in the PuppetShow line brings a lot of quality. Good puzzles that are challenging, interactive HOPs and a fairly decent storyline that isn't too bizarre.
Graphics are pretty nice throughout and voice overs aren't annoying, or over acted and seem to fit with the characters. I'm not sure if game developers fully understand that the voices alone can ruin a game (IMO).
Fun, interesting scenes, cute puppets (IMO) and a good length to the game too.
I recommend this game!

I hated the graphic animation in this CE. Ugh, ugh, ugh. The entire game seemed dismal and depressing. There's no horror here, just boredom.
I do prefer intriguing puzzles over HOPs, but the HOPs won in this CE.
Puzzles should require some logic (and a few did), but not the spinning discs. Though the spinning discs wouldn't have been as bad if the cursor had worked better. I'd click on one disc and another would move. Thanks, I really needed that!
I know that sounds more like a technical issue. Not really sure if it was, but it also effected the HOPs. There was a very fine area to click on items. I'd have to move my cursor all over the items, clicking constantly until finally the right area was hit.
Glad there wasn't any over-clicking penalty, or the HOPs would have taken way too long.
I must have quit this game at least 4 times, from annoyance. I actually dreaded returning to finish. And I LOVE games!!!
Maybe 3 stars were too many.
I don't recommend this game.
