Just finished the game (approx 4 hours) and have walked away totally satisfied that I have finally played a game with some challenge! Loved having a diary that I needed to check often for clues/codes instead of having them handed to me. EACH scene was jam packed with items to pick up, explore, come back to. No map that I was ever aware of so if you're stuck you will need to rely on the hint. I am one who is no longer in love with word list hos but I enjoyed these because words written in a different color just might be a morphing object. I really enjoyed the puzzles and felt they were quite creative.. some easy some hard. The voice overs were great ! I was SO happy to see at the end that we weren't fighting monsters by defending ourselves from things being hurled at us or having to combine symbols, etc. This is more of an old school game with a modern twist. I spent a coupon code that I knew I wouldn't get a punch for because I knew I wanted the game that badly. A totally satisfied customer today!

This is THE ONE I've been waiting for .. Mad Head's team has come up with the game of the year as far as I'm concerned.
You will get all the nitty gritty from others but since I've been playing for 5 hrs straight will keep it short. (yes, it's one of those games that you don't WANT to keep playing because it will be over sooner but you just can't stop)
May "only" be 4 chapters but they are long chapters. Main game a good solid 4 hours and the bonus another 1 hour at least.
I actually enjoyed the puzzles in this game (and I'm not a puzzle fan). The HOs were ok even though they were mostly junkpile because they were fun and creepy to look at. (in future hope to see a little more creativity)
In the bonus game you play as the detective and Howard, working together to try to figure out what's happening... and later along comes 360...
Don't forget to check out other extras (the character profiles especially interesting to me)
Will our darling little Shirley Temple like imp be back in a sequel? Who knows because she could show up any place in the world and I for one hope she does.
Happy Gaming and special thanks to Mad Head for stepping out of the box and giving us something creepy and thrilling.
(for some reason I couldn't add this as my favorite game but it is!)
Rescue a young girl from the Penumbra Motel. Solve puzzles, unravel a long standing mystery of death and disappearances in this heart-pounding adventure game!
Pennmom36 said it ALL in her review. A true adventure with LIVE ACTORS and good voice overs. sigh...... for the good old days with real challenge in games without transportable maps, writing down your codes, and true adventure with no HO scenes. (someone remarked to me recently that to make a true adventure without them the developer has to work harder - and all developers these days need to work a little harder even with HOs) Some of the puzzles were unique.. this game reminds me of a few others with the ramshackle buildings and rooms to explore. I LOVE creepy, dirty old places to explore. I would tag this a "paranormal thriller" maybe. ERS, get your old crew back together and bring us more like this !!!!
Buy this game today while it's on sale 6/12 ! What a GREAT game... for those of us who are tired of beautiful scenery without much to do.. but like creepy, abandoned places to explore.. and while waiting for True Fear 2 to come out try this game. I actually took time out to write this because I don't want you to miss it! The level of challenge is EXCELLENT with good backtracking and trying to remember even how to get to the next place you need to go. Actually have had to look at the map a few times.
Standard HOs but who cares? Wonderful journal.. I love to review the storyline as I go. Transportable map if you need it.
I am experiencing NONE of the problems in the other reviews when the game first came out.
Why can't they make more games like this??
Back to playing!
I recommend this game!

others have described.... LONG game for an SE... played for a little more than 4 hours. LOTS to do with some good backtracking and had to use map a few times. LOVE their HOs which play more like a mini game. If I can find the FIRST piece on the list the rest go progressively well. Puzzle were a mix of easier and what I call "hard" and hard to me are the toggle one thing affecting another or turning all lights off and slider puzzles... ended up skipping those. Great storyline that ended conclusively. Will keep my eye open for more from this developer of this calibur game.

I was SO looking forward to this game based on the beta. I was led to believe this was going to be a really creepy game but once I got inside the orphanage it started losing it...big time.
Super simple puzzles, HOs, and mini games.
I completed the main game and bonus in about 4 hrs.
Looking at the reviews from people who only played the demo and found it not to their liking I felt compelled to congratulate the developer for producing a game for a gamer like myself... it seemed custom made for me.
For people looking to be scared.. this game isn't for you. It's about conquering 12 phobias... rescuing your daughter who seems to be following another girl through the maze of phobias. (you buy the last ticket.."sold out")
I LOVED all the HOs.. either everything in the HO was progressively interactive or you had to find x number of things. (so if you are looking for standard HOs this game isn't for you) Haven't seen this type from the developer since Somber Song !!
I only did the match 3 option toward the end of the game and I had forgotten this developer did a good match 3
I am a gamer who isn't interested in finding morphing objects or collectibles or achievements.. can only comment on the amount of fun I had while playing... so look to other reviews for that.
I found this game to be non-linear as there was much, much to do and back and going back and forth in that part of the phobia being conquered. Your phone is "ringing", answer it to collect those maze pieces! So if you like a simple "quick fix" scene without much to do this game probably isn't for you.
I am not a fan of puzzles.. this game has a lot of puzzles but they were doable and if there were puzzles I hated (one thing toggles another) I had the custom feature set to quick skip.
I found a lot of instances where there wasn't a "clue" as what to do but I enjoyed sticking with it and figuring it out myself by trial and error when (ex: "what am I going to do with this?")
I never consulted the map... I never found the need but I did take a look at the diary (I still love having a diary - thanks developers) to see what was there and found the task list, and map, etc.
As for the length of the main game it was lengthy..estimating at least 4 hours...maybe more for me. (wish length of games was listed on the screen where you exit... we would know how long we had been playing)
Now for the bonus... eh !! short and not so exciting... I would have been more disappointed if I had paid full price.
The only thing I felt was missing for ME was the chance to play Match 3 in the extras
So well done, developers... while I haven't enjoyed your latest games THIS game is a standout for a SE... (bonus game needed a lot of work)
What a shame this sequel couldn't hold a candle to the first. Why even produce a sequel if it can't be equal to or better than the first?
Going back to the Pepper Club... we could have been introduced to a new club for one thing... that would have added something new.
At times I had to remind myself I was playing a Mad Head game and not an e pixie game because the hos were boring and there wasn't much to do and when there was it was done quickly with not much back and forth.
There were no interesting characters to meet (and we met them oh so briefly)
Felt like the game had really been "dumbed down"... first game I really enjoyed the taxi driver interaction and having to find where to go on the map. This time we just jumped in our car and watch and overlay of a steering wheel on the map. boring! Yes, I was bored.
One thing I really didn't appreciate was having to complete things in the extras before I could even access the match 3 in the extras.
To ME this might have been the kiss of death for the series.
I don't recommend this game.

Finding that some of the older games are more fun and challenging than the newer ones, a friend suggested this game for me to try. Sheerija described the game to a tee so I will just add that even though I skipped through a couple of games this SE took me SIX hours and 2 minutes to complete! I found that I had to click around the scenes because I never knew what tiny object I might pick up along the way.. challenging and FUN. Where have all the good games gone? So tired to the gimmicks ...... If there's ANY more games like this one I want to know about it.

This little Orchid of a game was truly awesome for a soft release and longer than some of the CEs I've played lately, too. I don't know if this is a new developer but they have obviously been paying attention to some of the better knowns and given us varied HOs and puzzles... some standard fare and a lot of varied kind.. some easier puzzles some harder which in my opinion is something for everyone. Hint button works well outside HOs and I needed it from time to time since the map was a more old school type (yay!) which cause me to have to THINK about where I should go and added to the challenge. Oh, and it's worth your time to check out Achievements and read the humorous comments about them. I will be looking for MORE from this developer.
