You are a detective trying to solve a series of murders by someone called the "Toymaker". He leaves you "gifts" at every which consists of a box or something else, but it takes a mini game to open it and get the next videotape and piece of map to lead you to the next location.
There are 2 levels of difficulty, a jump map and a hint button that recharges very quickly. The voiceovers were very crisp and clear.
When you get to each location you must play an HOG to get part of a piece to the mini game, which I found very easy. The HOGs were also not difficult. But this is a game for someone who loves HOGs because there is one at each location. So if you have 4 locations to check, you have to do 4 HOGs -- they are everywhere - this is an HOG heavy game. I like them but just not so many.
This is a game that didn't seem to require much brain power as I finished the demo with 15 minutes to spare. It would be great for both beginners and someone who may want to try an HOG who hasn't played one before.
Try the demo before you make your decision. All you'll lose is an hour but this Glam-ma just didn't care for it at all.
I recommend this game!

Seriously RATS! Huge ones, big ones, fat hairy red-eyed rabid looking disgusting everything-eating RATS - EVERYWHERE! So if u have an aversion to rats as I do this game is not for you - although there were so many other aspects that appealed to me that I could overlook the, gulp, eewww, yuck creatures that I'm sure to hit the "buy" button any minute. From little Sophie being kidnapped by - what else - the rat king - to flitty floaty things in the air everywhere and ghosts that may or may not help you to karmic decisions YOU have to make. Sounding better, huh? There's more - a jump map that shows action needed, where you've been and much needed to get around this spooky mansion/cemetery that you need to make your around.
Not for the feint of heart or the young of heart or those that prefer unicorns and butterflies and flowers and fairies - none of that here.
You really are the destiny of your own fate in this game as well as that of young Sophie's.
This Glam-ma says give it an hour than just go hit buy.
I recommend this game!

Especially the first 5 minutes or so of it. Seriously, I nearly jumped out of bed. The fear factor is very real and draws you in almost immediately. Try to get in the front door, even I felt wary and edgy and like do I really want to do this?
The scenario is your sister who hasn't seen you in 10 years suddenly sends an express letter in the middle of the night and off you go to find her. Why? Because you just had a horrible nightmare about the place the letter came from? Hmmmm. Or could it be something else?
Needless to say the graphics are quite eerie - not for the young at heart or anyone afraid of ghosts - yes, the I hear whispers and cobwebs and those kind of ghosts.
I won't get into the schematics and whatnots about the game - there are loads of others who can and do a brilliant job of that. I will tell you it grabbed me in the first 10 mins - I was not only ready to hit the buy button, after I turned on the lights, but I didn't want to stop long enough to hit the buy button - dilemma. The hour was up way too quickly.
Oh, the HOGs were brilliant. Your little hint button recharged quickly but you really don't want to use it/her too often - creepy. You have a interactive jump map and a journal. You also collect figures - large, small, hidden, out in the open, trophies, all related to the story and tell the story. Are you one of those?
This is not for the feint of heart - I've never given much thought to those red "beware of this game" words but truly, beware. This Glam-ma says definitely, yes, yes, but play with the lights on or during the daytime - whuahaha.
I recommend this game!

The absolute worse game I have ever played.
The storyline is slim and as you play the game it makes no sense. There are 3 difficulties - can you believe "beginner". Well, I gave that a try.
The HOs were so dark and mish mashed you had to rely on multiple clicking or using the hint button numerous times.
There is a map but NO journal - no journal?
The mini-games gave NO direction. Just here you are-figure it out.
I kept playing the not full hour because I kept hoping it would get better but it didn't. The characters were childish - as if made by an amateur. The scenes were all dark - so dark sometimes you could barely see. The game finished for me - with all the difficulty I had getting around in the beginner stage with 10 minutes to spare, which leads me to believe it's not a very long game.
Horror of horrors - BF were did this game come from????
I have never given such an awful rating or description of a game. I always try to give games the benefit of a doubt. Not this one. Stay away - don't waste an hour.
This Glam-ma says run.
I don't recommend this game.

First, let me apologize I haven''t been on for a while so I haven't reviewed a game in a little bit.
I wanted to like this game. I really did and something inside me wants me to just jump in and get it but there was no "wow" factor in it for me.
The storyline: You are a detective called (lured) to the Any Wish Hotel to investigate a missing guests. The guests are all entertainers of some kind it appears.
The characters are cartoonish and you have to do a lot of reading between found notes, the journal and the screen because there is no voice going on at all. The color scheme is bright so no dark and bumps in the night.
There is a journal, a map that shows your progress, where you need to continue and where you have completed a room, and for a short while is a transporter map but you lose that ability and then have to find creative ways to get around because the elevator is out of order too. The hint button charges fairly quickly, probably under a minute.
There is a beautiful butterfly that comes into play but I haven't figured out how or why. Nor have I figured out why the hotel is called Any Wish Hotel. Maybe we find out later in the game. Also, the hotel is in such disrepair why would anyone want to stay there anyway. Just lots of questions I think we should have answers to as we play along.
It was incredibly easy. The HOs were somewhat difficult to find because of the crowdedness of things. The mini games I did not find to difficult.
But, here's the thing. When I finish a trial period with a good 10 minutes to spare - that's when the big question hits - is it really worth it?
If you've got an hour to spare go ahead and try it. But as I read what I write it's a no for me. Sorry. This Glam-ma was genuinely unhappy. boo-hoo.
I don't recommend this game.

I have to say the storyline was thrilling. Father finds a golden bird in what he believes is an abandoned building and takes it home for his darling daughter. Except, as he was chased out of the castle with his claim in hand he was nearly accosted by the beast who lives within. As he sails away a note flies into his boat saying either he or his daughter will serve said beast for all eternity if the bird is not returned. The father needs rest, is tired and takes a nap. The daughter overhears the tale, however, and decides to return the bird and offer her life for her fathers. Through many nefarious ways the daughter finds the items she needs to return said bird but then my playing time is over.
Yes, we may have played the gist of this game before, several times, in fact, but the characters are bright and animals we meet charming. She'll obviously never make it in time (or will she?) because there is an evil witch(?) threatening her to go away. Oh, and let's not forget the hot looking fiancee'. What's a girl to do and how is he involved.? Daddy wakes up hollering "no", fiance appears in her defense, bird is squawking and chaos reins. And ........free trial is over.
Like it or not, I bought it immediately. Obviously I thought it an amazing enough game to pay the full price and not wait for the sale that will eventually come up. sigh.
There are the usual things in a CE, collectibles and achievements and little birds that you have to collect through the game. Other than that, jumpable map, strategy guide, blah, blah - sorry, I want back to the game.
This Glam-ma says try it out! I dare you not to be at least a little interested.
I recommend this game!

So, first, there are a number of "Haunted Hotel" games in this series, this being the latest (and the last?). I've played the trials but they weren't for me but this one caught me early on. I don't believe you need to invest in all the previous games unless you want to because I think this is a great standalone game. Great for beginners. Experts not so sure as I played on casual and got help when I needed it from the quickly rechargeable hint button to the jumpable map - which has a little secret I won't tell you about. Reviewers - don't give it away!
Storyline: You and your bestie agent friend who have cracked many cases together are called to this hotel where the maid outside tells you the hotel is filled with monsters. Your curiosity peaks and off you go on your adventure. So do you find ghoulies and ghosties and things that go bump in the night? Not gonna tell!
The best things I liked, again, were the rechargeable hint button and jumpable map but I did kind of get the feeling that the game was coming to a quick end - maybe not - won't know til I buy and find out for myself.
Graphics are great, tune out sound (I'm a grandmother - I've learned to tune out sound a long time ago - lol). You definitely do more as the investigating detective than your partner - who seems to only save damsels in distress.
Gotta go get the granddaughter at the bus stop but I'm buying - this Glam-ma says give it a whirl - an hour of free time is not too much to give for this great game.
I recommend this game!

I know I am in the minority here of liking the game, maybe, but I definitely want to give it a chance. I usually read some reviews before I submit mine but stopped after 3 because I didn't think this game was going to get a fair shake - at all. It is different if not slightly weird and somewhat disjointed until you play and finally get into that "zone". I believe it's meant to be during the time of the Salem Witch Trials as indicated by clothing, etc.
The storyline is that you are racing to an island to rescue the daughter of your executed best friend and, in fact, in time see her whisked off by a whirlwind of roses - but to where and why? That is the crux of the game.
You have to complete at least 3 quests in order to move on. After completing the quests you are given an object to help you get started in the next area. During the quests there are HOGs which I didn't find too difficult and DIYs (what I refer to as "do it yourself" items you need to get the pieces to complete). I hate those and in this game it can be difficult to tell when they've been completed - the color doesn't seem to change. The mini-games were not too difficult and I liked that the quest area was kept to a minimum without a lot of back and forth.
That being said there is a jumpable map - very cool and a bush/hint button that is helpful but does take a moment or two to recharge.
You will meet and chat with characters in the village who may or may not be helpful.
So, saying all this, as I was playing the game I really couldn't decide whether I liked it enough to buy - did it give me that "wow" factor I look for. Not necessarily. But it did give me something else. A new and different type of game that is definitely not like the boilerplate games we've been getting lately and when the free trial ended (with 5 minutes to spare) I had hit that "zone" and wanted MORE. So, yes, I will purchase it with one of the many free codes I have because I have to know what happened to Lily, where she is and why the town is harboring ghosties and things that go bump in the night.
Great for beginners. Experts probably not so much. This Glam-ma says play the free trial - you have nothing to lose but an hour of your time. I'm definitely getting it. It's just too different to pass up.
I recommend this game!

So, I'll probably be in the minority of those who liked, liked, liked this game. Yes, it's kitchy. Yes, it borders on the childish. Not fairytales and unicorns and butterflies childish but, yes, childish.
Storyline is that your niece is stuck in some kind of depression coma and it's desperation time to try to get her out. You, her aunt are desperate to help her so even though her doctor informs you of the risks, you put on this "magic" bracelet that takes you into her mind, with the warning that not all you see is real, which includes the talking bear companion/hint button you meet early on. LOVE the talking bear. Not as annoying as some companions I've come across. The story takes you into memories of your niece which have been turned into horrible nightmares - but why? Ah, and there is the game. You travel through various measures to find the answers and try to open the memories back into the good ones she needs. Along the way the bear gives you helpful hints and the doctor chimes in periodically with updates on your nieces' condition.
The graphics are unbelievably clear and on point, creepy where needed and not when not needed. You feel as if you could really be there. The voiceovers are clear and concise, you can totally understand everything being said. Everybody and everything has it's own specific voice, obviously not one or two trying to be everybody or everything.
The hint button/bear recharges quickly and takes you where you need to go if you can't figure it out or need a little nudge in the right direction. The HOGs are easy and not jumbled up piles, you do return to them, I think once that I could tell. I didn't get to do a lot of the mini-games, although once you have everything you need to do them, they are aplenty and none too difficult for the few I did.
Two difficulties, average and difficult. I chose average and it was incredibly easy with all the sparkles, etc. GREAT for beginners, don't think a good choice for experts. I think I would have a great time playing this with my granddaughter.
So, try it, nothing to lose there. This Glam-ma gives it all her approval with two thumbs up. I'm definitely getting ready to hit the "buy" button. Enjoy.
I recommend this game!

I wanted to like it, I really did. I even went to the reviews first so I good get a grip on the game and sort of what to expect. Well, you have all the reviews telling you how wonderful it was and I suppose, for them, it was....but I didn't tons of mechanical anythings or spiders galore or even sand out of my, well, you know. The colors great, the game ok. It just didn't wow me enough to even use my free CE game coupon. It didn't even leave me with enough of an impression to say one good or one bad thing about it. This Glam-ma hopes the wow factor is there for you and you enjoy the free trial. It's just not for me.
