I go by reviews and try to only pick the best games to purchase, and according to the reviews, I knew this was going to be a good one right out the gate. The puzzles are on the easy side. They may not be challenging enough for some. However, they're varied and unique, and I enjoyed them. The storyline and beautiful graphics totally swept me up, making me wish I had gotten the CE instead. Glad to see that the Living Legends series is keeping up with the high level of graphics and story development that I enjoy.
The map is needed because this game is all over the place. Being able to jump to the right location saves a lot of time instead of repeatedly navigating thru scenes. And speaking of running around, too bad Alice couldn't hang on to her scissors and a few other items instead of having to find new ones over and over. However, I gave this game four stars in spite of the aforementioned complaints because I still thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I have a feeling this is just the beginning of a well-crafted and immersive series. I'm looking forward to playing Missing Memories and then The Dark Side. I may even buy the CE for The Dark Side because of all the positive reviews.
I disagree with some of the other reviewers who say this game is better than the first Beyond game: Light Advent. Still, this game totally delivers in the Mad Head style that I've come to love and expect. It's all there: great characters, creative environment, immersive story line, varied game play. I enjoyed this game immensely.
There's still a timer to beat, but it's not that difficult. Sometimes I play these games to relax, and I don't necessarily want to get my heart rate up, but I also don't want to just click away either, with no real goal except to finish the level. This game has an actual “relaxed” mode.
The graphics are simple. The narrator's voice mispronounces and drags words for comic relief, making him hard to understand sometimes. It's overdone and gets annoying instead of funny, but that's minor and has nothing to do with the gameplay itself.
Also, at first I didn't realize that the storerooms produced gold. There's a couple of levels where you'll need to upgrade all the storerooms to get enough gold to beat the level.
In the beginning, I didn't really expect to get into this game like I did, but the further along I got, the more I enjoyed it. Hercules 12 Labours ended up being a totally fun game with lots of achievements, mini-games, and just the right amount of strategy without having to repeat levels several times over, trying to beat a timer.
Hidden Expedition has been a favorite series of mine ever since I played Smithsonian Hope Diamond, so I seriously wanted to give this game a higher rating. The beginning showed promise, and some of the storyline and most of the puzzles were okay.
However, this game completely lagged in the middle. Nothing made sense, and playing became tedious. I ended up constantly consulting the map for hints on where to go to next because I lost interest.
I don't expect a casual game to be a true source of historical data, but this one really missed the mark in that area: PONCE DE LEON was the explorer who discovered Florida and searched for the Fountain of Youth. Magellan discovered the Strait of Megellan and was the first European explorer to cross the Pacific Ocean.
The last third of this game did get better though, and I felt a pang of nostalgia for my beloved H.E.L.P. team, and I actually started to enjoy the experience again. That's why I gave three stars instead of two.
I only recommend this game for those wanting to complete their collection.
I forgot that I had played this game right after it first came out, but I thoroughly enjoyed it again the second time around. Enough time had passed for it to feel almost like new again. A couple of collectables were really hard to find, which was nice. The pacing was good and I never felt bored or like the game had become tedeous in any way. I almost never buy CEs, but this was the first game in a new series, and Mad Head rarely lets me down anyways. There's been a couple of games that seemed a little too short, but this one was a decent length, and I felt like I got my money's worth. I look forward to playing the next game in this series.
Deck of Fates has all the elements that I've come to expect in Rite of Passage games, including the storyboard sequences that this series is known for. What stands out the most in this game though is the story itself --totally original and reminisent of "Magic" type decks that people collect, except this game is with real people trying to slay a real beast. It's obvious Mad Head tried to make the mini-games original and varied. Some I skipped, but there were loads of puzzles, and skipping a few didn't subtract at all from the overall game play. I rate this game four and a half stars. The plot alone stands head and shoulders above most HOs out there. Mad Head did a good job on this one. Enjoy!
I had the opportunity of playing the entire game a couple of months ago, and I truly loved it. There aren't that many games these days that can hold my attention all the way to the end, but this one did --a definite buy for me because I look forward to replaying it again in a few months.
I recommend this game!

The Silent Age
Help Joe discover the truth behind humankind's extinction! Can a simple janitor and literally, "the average Joe," save humankind?
Simple graphics...point-and-click...no hints --this is the retro lovers dream game. The hero and the developer both seem like underdogs that you just can't help but root for. An interesting plot, intriguing characters, and a little determination make for a fun game. It did get tedious in one early chapter when I couldn't figure out what to do next, but hey, I'm not above an occasional walk-through, and besides, I would have figured it out anyways, if I had just been a little more patient. This game had just the right amount of difficulty level for me, and the further along I got, the more hooked I became. Travel back and forth between the 1970s and 2012 and find a time traveler and save the world. Enjoy!
The atmosphere, the music, the story, all kept me glued to this game. The HOGs and puzzles kept with the flow of the story, and I had fun playing each one. My only drawback is it could have been a little longer, but I'll definitely be replying this one again. I highly recommend, especially if you like jazz. Enjoy!
