As 2012 draws to an end, the Mayan Prophecy will no doubt be a very popular subject. Finally an awesome game that begins onboard a Spanish Galleon that has been lost in time and is carrying a mysterious cargo that hold secrets about the Mayan Prophecy. I have only played the demo and am really excited about continuing this amazing game that really has so many features, I really do not know where to begin. Our story begins as we assume the role of a Coast Guard on a misssion that has suddenly gone bad; a fugitive poacher has excaped from our custody and has dissapeared along with our partner. To make things worse, our boat is sinking and we have no choice but to board a mysterious ship that has come out of the fog. We soon find ourselves surrounded by Mayan artifacts that hold a dark secret regarding the prophecy. We soon find ourselves not completely alone, there is a creepy sea creature that becomes a threat and a young boy who is trapped and needs our help. Like the story, this game has so much to offer and no doubt will make my top 20 games for this year. This game is one of those great HOPAs that has absolutely everything a CE game should have: Brilliant Graphics with great animation cut scenes, voice-overs and sound effects, a storyline that deals with the prophecy of an ancient people along with a rescue mission, great puzzles that are challenging, HO scenes that are interactive along with fun Mini-games. There is also an option to play Mahjong tiles instead of playing the HO scenes. Now how cool is that? Game options include three difficulty modes that you can also cutomize as well as change during gameplay. There is an interactive map that will transport you to locations along with a journal. There is an artifact that when assembled will recount the tale behind the Mayan Mystery; the pieces are scattered on board. There is a Mayan Calender which requires you to find all the missing pieces and once assembled, you are able to free the trapped souls. There are achievements to get and best of all, you need to collect 44 morphing objects onboard as well as 32 hummingbirds that are hidden inside the HO scenes. Seriously, the developers have really gone overboard with this game (no pun intended) and I for one congradulate them for what appears to be an execellent game that so far has proven to be not only entertaining but also challenging. A definite MUST BUY Game.
I recommend this game!

Hard-core Adventures, rejoice! For O Mighty BFG has brought unto us an adventure game that will test our worthiness and offer us a chance to redeem ourselves by using the sacred brain that was giveth to us. HOG lovers will be disappointed as there are no HO scenes in this game; pure adventure with awesome features at play here. Where Angels Cry is a wonderful mystery that takes place in a Monastry high on the alps of Lombardy. You are an agent of the vatican, a monk that is set to investigate the disapearance of a Brother John. In addition there is a statue that appears to be shedding tears of blood. Can you say ' Name of the Rose' meets Nancy Drew? The Graphics are gorgeous, crisp and bright with good animations that look like 3D. There are voice-overs with italian accents that are actually not very good along with sound effects and very effective music. The developers have really gone to bat with game features and I loved that they added gameplay settings. You have 3 modes of difficulty and option to customise your settings like sparkles, extended tasks and fast hint/skip recharge. You also have HD graphics as an option for those who have newer computors. When starting the game, you find yourself equiped with a journal that has a diary section, a tasks list, a help section and best, a game info that gives you updated progress as you play. There are achievements to be had as well as collecting 20 angles hidden throughout the game that will unlock a bonus section. Once I started playing, after the first 15 minutes in adventure mode, I was hooked. New-comers to the adventure genre may find it intimidating at first, you start picking up items as you search the area and before you know it, you have 20 things in your inventory and then the fun is to figure out where to use them. There are mini-games as well but so far they were easy to complete. Some inventory items will be combined and if you have chosen 'extended Tasks', you will have guidance in the game. No doubt a walkthrough will be handy but this really is a great opportunity to challenge those grey cells. I loved the game and after having completed the demo, I am eager to continue tonight and solve what appears to be a very sinister mystery inside the walls of the Monastry.
I recommend this game!

I really did not know what to think of this game and was stumped from the very beginning. It took me a while before I realised that this was completely different from what we have seen in a while and soon I found myself enthralled not only with the story but with the game mechanics involved. This is an unusual HOPA with a few surprises thrown in. The graphics at first appeared a bit date, 3D like but visuals were sharp. I was not able to access the opening menu until I started the game and then noted that there was only one play mode. With soft jazz music in the background, we find ourselves in Paris during the roaring 20s. (One thing I did note at the begining: did woman wear short skirts above the knees and high boots in the 20s?) Anyhow, We meet up with a young aspiring journalist, Edgar Lance, who finds himself entangled in a murder mystery involving a young artist found dead on the opening night of his exhibition. Lance must now investigate and we begin our adventure. There is alot to do inthis game so be prepared to answer questions, take interviews, play HO scenes that involve very small parts and pieces to puzzles, play min-games, take photos, write up articles to help solve the murder. We have our camera and our notebook and a hint that really was not very helpful. We have voice-overs but unfortunately no map. By the time I had completed the demo, I was hooked. Although there are things that are missing like unclear instructions and basically I had to fumble around just to find some items in the HOS, I really enjoyed myself and am quite curious in helping Lance investigate this murdur. I expect adventure lovers will find this game amusing but be warned, glasses will be required at time. Bon amusment!
I recommend this game!

Magic versus Science is the age old battle that prompts Amanda to answer her Grandfather's plea and embark on a mysterious adventure that will change her life. With the help of Mera Whitelaw, a magical being imprisoned and who needs her help, Amanda finds herself on an adventure where she must undertake a variety of tasks in order to uncover the plans of Dr. Magus, a one time friend and now enemy of her dead Grandfather. At first Guardians of Magic appears to be a very simple Adventure-Puzzle game, designed for a much younger audience. However as I played on, I found myself being immersed into the game play which included finding blueprints and parts that needed to be combined in order to build magical machines, solving a variety of puzzles, solving riddles and helping out magical being with their demands. I also had to trace constellations in order to unlock gateways into other realms, cast spells and enter different realms and look for clues, all within the one hour demo. The graphics are cartoon style and sharp and there are voice-overs and sound effects as well. There is only one play mode and game features include a journal that provides you with notes, spells, blueprints to the machines that need building, constellations outlines and puzzles that can be re-played. The game mechanics is relatively easy, seek and find and as there is no map, expect alot of backtracking. Puzzles were very easy but fun and included finding pairs, spot the difference, weights and Tangrams. Hints are provided by your new friend Mera when needed and you also use the machines that you build to provide you with help. There were things in the game that did annoy me like the journal that kept popping up on my screen and the dialogue that passes too quickly. Nevertheless, It is an ideal game for a younger audience but I expect that adventure lovers who have a whimsical side and who are young at heart will enjoy this game. I was suprised to say that I did find it entertaining, charming and well executed. I do recommend that you try the demo and see for yourself. I you do have a punchcard sitting around, this could be well worth your while to spend a lovely afternoon with Amanda and friends.
I recommend this game!

I bought the CE version of this game when it first came out and although I was a bit disappointed with the ending as well as with the bonus game, the hours spent on this sequel was great fun. The Awakenings Series ihas always been a favorite of mine and I enjoyed Sophie' s adventures along with her companions. In this last leg of her journey, Princess Sopie is on the mission to find her missing people and battle wits with her evil foe, the Dreadmyre. As a CE version, this game came with all the Bells and Whistles; terrific Graphics , stunning artwork, voice-overs and a list of achievements to complete as well as mini-games. However like I said, I was disapointed with the Bonus game so for those who opted to wait for the Standard Edition, no really big losses there unless you enjoy the extras. Game options include three game modes and Game features include a journal with a list of goals, a trusty owl companion who acts as hint and guide and a pocket dragon who gives you the power to burn. There is an interactive map for fast-travel and a question mark on the bottom left that when clicked on, will give you directions as where to go and what to do. This is an addition help system other than the hint button so with this, who really needs a Strategy Guide. The game was an excellent HOPA, lots of adventure elements with HO scenes where you either find listed objects that are interactive, or pair off items as well. There are mini-games which were relatively easy to play but they did get more complex as you moved on and as always, were creative. This is one of those games that has re-play value, a game that gives you hours of good story telling and fun game play and seeing the SE version, I will go ahead and use a left over credit to purchase.
I recommend this game!

I was hoping that that we would meet up once more with the insane Dr. Blackmore and to my delight, he has returned; crazier than ever and up to his evil plan to destroy the wolrd. This game had me within the first 10 minutes and after having played the first chapter which incidently took me 45 minutes, I immediately went off to purchase and I plan to save this gem for tonight. This time our story begins in a mysterious lab where I have just woken up to find that not only am I prisoner of the evil Dr. Blackmore, but he has captured several hostages including my fiance, Tim. I am now forced to play a game of cat and mouse with Blackmore and in order to rescue Tim, I must first locate and free the other hostages. The Graphics are high quality which is expected from these developers and there is brilliant animation cut scenes along with voice-overs and sound effects. Once the really cute Kangaroo popped up on my screen, I knew I was in for a treat. The music is soft and haunting and reminds me of the musical score to a french film I saw years ago. There are three play modes to choose from and as always, I began my journey with advance rather than hard-core. This game is a HOPA, with great puzzles to solve and interesting HO scenes to play. HO scenes come with silohettes of items you need to find. There is alot of interaction whereby you need to use each item on another in order to recieve you inventory tool. I loved them; it is great to see that devlopers are makeing HO scenes more interesting to play. I came across two mini-games that were not very difficult but has a good degree of fun factor. What I really loved were the interesting animals that crossed my path and the adventure that I found myself playing. This game gets 5 stars from me along with a high recommendation. I am anxious to continue and only hope that this is not the end of what was an excellant series from Haunted Halls.
I recommend this game!

I am all for romance and a tale of star-crossed lovers from the past who plague the dreams of a young photographer in our present can make for a good yarn; unfortunately in this case, it made for a very good yawn. THere is not much to say about the graphics, there are sharp and cut scenes are cartoon like drawings. The music starts of as a melodic piano tune that changes to a new-age music causing my brain to slowly go numb. There are no play mode options, no voice-overs, no journal and no map. What you basically have is a hint system and an inventory bar. This game is mostly HOG with some FROG thrown in along with a few puzzles like spot the differences. One thing that I found most annoying was that most of the HO scenes had the same items thrown. Gameplay is slow and to tell you the truth, I was tremendously relieved when the game told me I had completed the trial run after 30 minutes whereby I opted to get out of there as quickly as I can and take a cold shower in order to wake up. I have to admit I found the storyline intriguing but I think I will pass so unless you are a hard-core romantic, this game should just go away.
I don't recommend this game.

At first galnce I was completely put off at the opening scene and the graphics of this game. Visuals were at best mediocre, graphics were cartoonish and blurry: nevertheless I began my journey. The storyline has an interesting plot where a young girl is abducted and finds herself on a spacecraft held captive by two very odd looking aliens. Following an unexpected crash, she finds her self on what appears to be a planet and there her adventure begins. Game menu offers custom cursor as well as an option that allows your diary entries to be previewed on screen. There are two modes of gameplay whereby advance mode offers a more challenging gameplay with HO scenes and puzzles. E.P.I.C. is a HOPA that completely took me by surprise from the moment I began to play. Once you get pass the initial opening scene and find yourself on the planet, the graphics get better and the real Adventure begins. I have to say, I was thrown by the challenging gameplay and it wasn't long before I was hooked. It took me the whole hour just to figure out how to collect my inventory objects, combine them in the right way and use them. The first HO scene was crowded as I played in advance mode and also interactive. Some of the objects were way too small to see. After I completed my first task that is listed in my notebook I encountered my first mini-game which I have yet to accomplish and I will now immediately buy this game because I am loving this game. I anticipate that Hard-core adventure gamers will find this game a pleasant surprise as grey cells will be used alot and there is no hand-holding. The hint system does offer some guidance but I have a feeling that I will be needing a walkthrough because Ireally am stumped at the first puzzle. Had there been better graphics, voice-overs and a map, this would have been a fantastic game. EPIC is certainly a pleasant surprise and I do look forward to finding out what happens next
I recommend this game!

Today your husband has been kidnapped during your honeymoon and youfind yourself playing cat and mouse with a Madman inside Houdini's Castle. He believe that you are the 'chosen one' to help bring back his missing apprentice. I own all the games that these developers have brought to us and I must say that their graphics have improved over the year. The artwork is stunning and the graphics are sharp and bright. The game features two game modes and you are equiped with one journal and an old Film Camera where you will be picking up old film reels that give you some interesting tidbits on the life of Houdini and the mystery involved. There are voice-overs and good sound effects. There is no map so alot of backtracking is involved. Houdini's Castle is your basic HOPA, heavy on adventure with crowded HO scenes that are slightly interactive. There are two types of HO scenes; one where you find objects and the other is where you place objects that associate with others. There is alot of picking up inventory items which you use on your way. The hint system does refill slowly and you have blackbar hints that tell you what you need. Minigames are easy; during the trial mode, I found them to be too easy. After having played the demo, I asked my self: Where is the magic and what was the hype all about? The storyline is old, the game mechanics are routine and there are no extras involved like morphing objects, collectables or intricate puzzles. After a while I found the gameplay a bit automatic and a bit tedious. The only eyepopper in this game were the graphics. Is this enough to spend CE price? In my opinion, No, it is not. Perhaps I am spoiled but I really do expect much more from a Collector's Edition Game. I found this to be less magical than expected which really begs the question, do I recommend this game as is? I am tempted to say that I do not recommend this game however as it does have merits regarding visuals and gameplay that I am sure many will enjoy, I will recommend this game to beginners. However if you are looking for something challenging and different and a bit more fun to play, then you, like myself, will probably opt to wait for the SE edition.
I recommend this game!

What do you get when you put Car Crash, Kidnapped Brother, Hooded Figure and Scary Mansion together?, a very well worn teeshirt. I admit, the formula is the same and at one point I was so sure I had played this game before but I am almost certain that this is a new game. Anyhow, to be fair, I did enjoy the demo and will purchase it with one of my several club award credit lying about. It looks like it has potential and starts off as a good Interactive HOG; although I think that it may just as well be a HOPA, with heaviness on the Puzzles. I do like the graphics, sharp and well done with live actors and voice-overs. The annimation is almost life lile in some scenes and I also enjoyed the sound effects. There are three playmodes and hardcore players will be pleased with the advance mode. There is a journal but no map and the hint system did refill rather quickly. As I was playing, I really was hoping that there would have been some extras like morphing objects or collectables and wonder why the devlelopers did not go down that route which would have made the gameplay more interesting. Too bad because generally gamemechanics involves alot of picking up this and picking up that, a few HO scenes that are interactive (on the easy side) and mini-games that vary from easy to the need of some elbow grease. Overall it is not a bad game and will not make my top 20 list but nevertheles, I did have a certain degree of enjoyment during the first hour and my curiosity is piques at finding out the story behind the kidnapping, so what the heck, I will just add this to my "car crash, kidnapped sibling and haunted manison" pile of games and keep it for a rainy day.
I recommend this game!
