An oldie but goodie. Graphics aren't too hot but it must have been a hot game in its time. Some of the characters don't ring true but that doesn't really matter because they are all so much fun. The butler is hilarious. The voices are great too. The game play is unusual at times. You move a lot of objects out of the way and open a lot of cupboards, so it feels very tactile and hands on. You can move a lot of stuff around. I would have preferred it to be less puzzley with more straight foward HOS. I wouldn't say it was relaxing. It's the kind of game you should play if you need cheering up and want to be entertained.
Lovely detailed graphics, great environmental sounds, good atmosphere, excellent game play and intriguing storyline. I'm in the middle of playing it again. If you play it again, they bring all the trophies that you gained during your first game, into your next game. It's just all hidden object scenes, one after the other, so if you like that kind of thing, you'll like this. There is one little puzzle in each HOS to add some spice. It's very much like the first game and this one is the sequel. The first game leaves you on tenderhooks and this one picks up very seamlessly from the last. It also has the same consistancy and game play as the first. The ending is also very good, very satisfying. They give you your money's worth, in terms of quality, length of game, storyline and ending.
This was yet another I bought for my husband because he spied me playing the demo, and said, 'I like that!' So, I got the full version. I actually enjoyed the first hour or so. I wasn't too fond of the last twenty minutes. I thought it started off more exciting than it finished. Very nice graphics and sound effects and good atmosphere. The ending was a little abrupt but not as bad as some. When it tells you where to go, it points out several different directions all at once and we got a bit lost and sometimes, towards the end, a bit stuck but it all worked out in the end.
I recommend this game!

The Institute - A Becky Brogan Adventure
An eccentric doctor’s unconventional treatment methods have Becky Brogan scouring the grounds of a spooky Institute!
I like the old games and this is old school fun. Unlike the other Becky Brogan game, this has unlimited hints and creepy music, rather than creepy sounds. It's just hidden object scenes, one after the other, with the added bonus of one or two simple puzzles within the scene, with a small inventory of objects, which opens up other scenes. I loved the storyline, very intriguing and I was drawn into it, quite disturbing, creepy and intricate. Lots of reading, if you like that sort of thing. The only trouble was, it ended quite abruptly, without any satisfying resolution. It drew you in and then let you down a bit at the end but there it is. I still liked it though.
I bought this for my husband because he caught me playing the demo and really liked it. So, we played it together. I couldn't have played it alone. I would have got frustrated with it. Excellent graphics and sound. I liked the uniqueness of translating some of the languages the characters speak. I didn't like how the hints work. They don't hold your hand and take you were you need to go. They sort of tell you what to do. Hints and skips take forever to charge up. I thought puzzles were challenging and interesting. I did iike the storyline and one of its strong points was its good atmosphere. Ending was okay, perhaps a little abrupt and perhaps it was a little short. I gave this a four star simply because I think quality wise, it's a good game and recommend it for people who like a bit more of a challenge without everything being handed to them on a plate.
I liked this game for the unusual gameplay on some of the HOS. There's one in particular where you click on sound files and have to guess the object that way and it was a lot of fun. You can also find objects through a storyline type situation and through a series of clues. In fact there were many ways of finding objects and that's what I particularly liked about the game. As well as the three cute bear hints you can collect in every scene, or nearly every scene. I do wish there had been more hints though. The graphics were okay and I liked the environmental sound effects. There were 74 levels, so sometimes it was a bit tiring. It just never seems to end but you do get your money's worth in that way.
Great environmental sound effects and atmosphere. The graphics were a little crude, quite old school but then again it's not a new game. I loved all the little shocks and surprises. I would have given it five stars except for two things, firstly, I got lost at one point for a long time and had to be rescued by my husband! The hint button wouldn't take me to the place I needed to go, which was the brick wall where one of the talisman's had to go. I have very poor direction in real life too, so I really need my hand held when it comes to knowing which way to go. Also, I found the demo to be much more exciting than the actual game. I know the demo is supposed to entice but I never fail to be surprised when the full game doesn't live up to the amazing demos. I wish they could sustain the level of excitement and fun right through the game. It was a little short but I liked the ending. Not much replayability but all in all a decent game.
This had bags of atmosphere, great storyline and plot (although I wasn't sure/satisified about the conclusion. i.e who they said the killer was. I don't think it's him). I like that it made me think and look up the suspect on google the next day. A game that provokes thought and research can't be bad! The graphics were okay, a bit old school, but it is an old game. The game play was okay but not straight forward a lot of time. I enjoyed the voice overs. There was good relatable and realistic characterisations throughout. In the cut scenes, I just got sound, no graphics. Overall, a decent, memorable game and well worth a play.
The graphics were very nice and I liked the popping sound when I found an object. The scenes repeat quite a bit. Objects were not too hard and not too easy to fnd. It was quite obvious early on who the murderer was. I would have liked some environmental sound effects instead of just music. That would have nudged my score up a bit.
I recommend this game!

Becky Brogan: The Mystery of Meane Manor
The suspense is building in Becky Brogan`s first mystery. Visit chilling scenes as you uncover the eerie secrets of the past in Meane Manor!
What I like most about this game is the enviromental effects. Most of them are creepy at best, downright terrifying at worst. Half the time, you're wondering, 'What exactly was that noise?' and 'How did the sound producers make it?' It must have been fun in that sound studio. The objects can be a little difficult to find at times but usually they are in plain view and are just blended quite well into the graphics. They did repeat scenes a lot and I would have liked a bit more variety. There is an object detector in the form of a ringing bell. When you get close to an object, the bell gets louder. The hints are limited, you start off with a few and the rest come in the form of cats. The cat sounds were very disturbing sometimes but a lot of fun. I felt that the horror was a bit tongue in cheek, it didn't take itself too seriously. A lot of the older games did have a sense of humour.
