In this ghostly continuation of the Fear for Sale series, you've discovered a luxury ocean liner bears an eerie resemblance to a ship that vanished years ago.
Maybe this is a game for people who are fascinated by technical stuff? For me it was a voyage that wouldn’t end… However, lots of people appear to like this game, and you might too evidently! I suggest giving it a trial. I made a mistake by not trialing this game. My apologies to those who have enjoyed this game, I know I’m being very subjective. I found the characters wooden: the captain was awful and the journalist you play as, emotionless. The only characters that were interesting at all were finished within the first few minutes!! The captain’s daughter and the captain’s assistant!
New thing I haven’t seen before: there’s an inventory item with the familiar plus sign indicating further work is required, you click on it, and then you have to find the remaining parts, which are hidden, scattered in background.
STORY: Why does a young woman disappear after boarding a ship? What ship is this and why does it sometimes look so dilapidated? Was there a shot? Murder? Why??
SETTINGS, ART and GRAPHICS: Starts with great promise. At first the detail of the graphics is enticing, but the HOGS have a grainy and sometimes cloudy look and overall the graphics are a bit heavy on the strong orange and yellow palette which I didn’t like. The graphics also seem to deteriorate now and again with lack of detail. There also doesn’t seem to be much going on movement wise, it’s all very stationary.
MUSIC & SOUND: 4 separate sound controls. However even in ambient settings, there isn’t a whole lot going on and you are forced to listen to music several times, even though there is a separate music control.
HOGS & PUZZLES: Lots of them. HINT: Where to go and what to use and how. TASKBAR: Lockable LEVELS OF DIFFICULTY: 4 levels of difficulty which are changeable during gameplay.
EXTRAS: The CE DOES has lots of items to collect: morphing objects, and a whole plethora of items for different categories. Points awarded too. There is the usual abundance of extras including the Strategy Guide.
BONUS: The bonus is a completion of the whole story, but you could enjoy the main game alone as an SE. Personally I enjoyed the bonus game more than the main game and would rate it at 4* Maybe tis me landlubbing legs! We had some garden and a bit of a house going on!
The background layouts are inventive with plenty of views and changes in scene make it constantly interesting. I played this straight after Bridge to Another World: The Others. There is no link between this story and that, and the characters are entirely different. Initially I avoided this game, thinking it sounded too much like a horror. But it isn’t at all. It’s a really well done game, with tension throughout, but nothing bordering on scary. There is the mist in which all kinds of creatures live, those that are both good and helpful, and those that are monstrous. You must rescue your brother from within the world of the mist, but first you must track him down. It is a world in which pictures come to life!
LOTS of interaction with great characters, which sets the tone of the story and propels it forwards. The characters are given huge amounts of personality and are so well done. Unique game. Had a different feel to it. Get past the first couple of HOGS and then the story really takes off! But note, when I say there are lots of Hidden Object Scenes, there ARE LOTS of HIDDEN OBJECT SCENES.
What is going on in this hotel? Why is there seaweed EVERYWHERE? Why is this girl acting strangely? Who are these other characters and why are they here? What is the managers problem? Why is this grand, older and sophisticated lady being friendly but hiding something? The story builds an atmosphere of a moody, brooding, ghostly mystery which is slightly menacing, but NOT a scary, jump in your seat/ blood runs cold horror. HOWEVER there IS an unpleasant cut scene shown several times of a few seconds that shows a violent act of someone with their hands around someone’s neck . You see the victim's unfortunate expression as they keel over helplessly onto the ground. I really didn’t like this and think the same thing could have been indicated without showing so much detail. Maybe I just felt it was worse than it actually was, because I was so into the atmosphere of the game.
Loved the hotel. Loved the boat travel. Instead of arriving at your destination which usually happens on entering a boat, you actually TRAVEL on it, accompanied by a huge, misty moon on the horizon! You’re back and forth a few times! It’s very relaxing, bobbing up and down on the waves of the lake, with the sound of the water and the chugging engine. Note that the game, might not fill your whole screen, it didn’t with mine. It is an older game. But nice graphics, good sound, and good hint button!
REVIEW BASED ON COMPLETED GAME AND BONUS. I think anyone could play this game, kids and adults alike, and both genders too, since it’s not cutesy. Stationary, snarling dogs appear at the end of the demo and once more in the game, but that’s as far as scary goes.
SETTINGS, ART and GRAPHICS: Lovely artwork and natural looking colors. We have forests of giant mushrooms, animals/creatures that look innocuous and then roar/snap at you, flowers of all kinds, fireflies, stars and sweetly singing birds, some bows and jewels, cozy wooden dwelling or caves, pots of water simmering over crackling, mesmerizing fires, pools of water, glowing lamps, potions to brew and enormous waterfalls!! … And always a good’n in my book- fully and respectfully clothed beings that include orcs, elves, gnomes and humans. You’ll find yourself indoors and outdoors, then indoors and outdoors and more outdoors!
When I play a game like this, I get totally, dreamily, relaxed. I think that THIS game stands alone in its own loveliness.
STORY: Will you find your father? Will you manage to find your old elf friend again? What has become of them both? Uncover the truth of the original accusation that led to revenge! Go through many portals on your journey. Use a potion to shrink unwanted creatures! I consider myself to be an intermediate player, but I found myself stumped on many occasions. This game is not a doddle!
HELPERS: A friendly phoenix for most of the time and you also get a friendly gnome in your inventory for a while.
MUSIC & SOUND: My favorite type! You can turn the music down without losing the ambient/environment sounds! So you have your 1) music, 2) ambience linked with mouse-click effects, and 3) voice. You can turn the music down, but keep the sound of birds, woodland creatures, crackling fires, fountains etc. Voices are good, and effects of your surroundings like fires and fountains create the mood I’m looking for. I’m not really bothered by lip-syn. I don’t think it was spot on.
HOGS & PUZZLES: There were quite a few of both, I didn't count, but at least 12 HOGS and a number of puzzles. A few of them were: bow-tied boxes, to which you must add your objects based on the silhouette appearing in the box, riddles to identify the object (which I loved), not all were immediately obvious and there were a range for differing abilities. Another I loved were the Hidden Objects that occurred twice on floating lily pads on the forest pond where you had to find 2 like-items (I just drifted off into peacefulness listening to the water lapping against the log). Find 10 of golden /silver objects, place objects back where they belong, find silhouette objects from the inventory (and if you hovered near the silhouette, it’d tell you what the object was and would light up subtly), and find the differences. All Hidden Object Scenes were moderately interactive. Some puzzles included placing mosaic pieces back together, fitting pieces together to fit a square, spot the difference, and make the picture from tiles. The puzzles were enjoyable but for people looking for hard puzzles, this game doesn't have them.
HINT: Tells you WHERE to go, WHAT to use and WHERE. But you also have the strategy guide that you get with the CE. TASKBAR: Lockable LEVELS OF DIFFICULTY: 4 levels of difficulty which are changeable during gameplay.
CONS: Not much. The expansive waterfall lacked the natural roar and thunderous sound that would undoubtedly accompany it. Instead we had something akin to someone running the shower!! (This is with my headphones on incidentally.) It was so far removed from what I expected that I found it entertaining!
CE EXTRAS: 15 CHESS PIECES collect and 12 CARDS to find. Collections, achievements, wallpapers, concept art, videos, screensavers, minigames, hidden objects, music and of course strategy guide.
I thought the chess pieces were genius. They were hiding in plain sight so to speak. Also when you hovered over them the mouse didn’t change shape, so they weren’t a dead give-away. If you move to “Collections” from the menu, each chess piece gives you a little snippet of history or fact on the subject of chess.
EXTRAS PLUS… - 8 jigsaw puzzle games (didn’t care much for it because too many pieces were overlapping.) -Match-3 with chess-pieces (WHEN you manage to find all 15 pieces) -a “fortune-telling” game, (WHEN you managed to collect all 12 cards) which is basically a match-2 cards game, by turning over 2 cards at a time. On completion you’re rewarded with a positive statement (at least the 3 times I played it I was)!
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST… Check out the movement on the characters: the cat at the beginning, then the gnome helper and well into the game, the mage. No hovering /drifting movements, but more realistic –like movement instead! I was impressed!
Great for passing some time here and there! Great for completely wrecking your mouse button hand with cramps! ;) This is the first Mahjong game I’ve bought and so I can’t compare it to others. Based on what other reviewers said, this is a back to basics game and does not have the bling and extras that some games do. It does have: -360 boards, with 3 goals each to achieve -7 tile sets -20 background scenes -Hint button -Option for timed games -Nice music
Just found it difficult to stay motivated in this one, so I put it down to the story and just ok graphics. I ended up playing it intermittently over many weeks because I kept finding better games to play! Eventually I deleted it, knowing I wasn't going to finish it.
I liked the talking pig-head after his nose-ring! Also the puzzles were enjoyable. There were hardly any HOS in this game. But I found the lady- fairy helper PARTICULARLY annoying.
Personally, I thought the Myths of the World, Stolen Spring (the Viking one) much more enjoyable than this one.
THIS game has got me well and truly into “who-dunnits!” Meeting all the characters and trying to figure out the culprit was lots of fun. They’re ALL done well, in that they have different personalities. The settings in and around the large mansion and the art and graphics were all very good. Very 1920’s.
The HOGS & puzzle were very good. The story was lots of fun with twists and turns not knowing quite who was innocent and who was not. Lots of intrigue and places to visit. The music was suitable and the levels of difficulty are changeable during gameplay. Can’t wait for the next one like this!
Fairly enjoyable HOPA, with more HOGS than recently. Ghosts trapped in their ballet theatre due to unhappy misunderstandings and jealousy. You must free them and free your sister too. Nothing scary or crude.
SETTINGS, ART and GRAPHICS: Good, but nothing that takes your breath away. Could have been so much prettier with costumes and more elaborate settings. The art work just didn’t stun.
HOGS & PUZZLES: . HOGS were not particularly pretty to look at and were mostly. of the silouhette type
STORY: Moves pretty slowly.
MUSIC: Classical type music , but not enough variation
HINT: The hint tells you where to go and what to use. The strategy guide is not necessary. It will also open up a window for you to travel straight to where you want to go. So that was good!
TASKBAR: Lockable
LEVELS OF DIFFICULTY: 4 levels of difficulty which are changeable during gameplay.
You've been asked to cover a highly anticipated competition in New York City when something goes terribly wrong. Can you escape the world of illusions?
Good game. Nice graphics and places to investigate. Interesting story. Enjoyable HOGS and puzzles.Somehow I expected more to be wowed though. It was a sad story, and just lacked a certain pizazz. The collectable cards weren’t all that interesting. I would definitely recommend this as an SE.
In this magical, fantasy, adventure game, a brother and sister team who are each other’s family, battle the evil that challenges them. There are surprises everywhere and interaction with characters abounds. 28 crow silhouettes to collect throughout the game.
SETTINGS, ART and GRAPHICS: The graphics aren’t the best in the world, but the settings, the story, level of interaction and mood of the story more than make up for it. Based on the trial, I traveled through, night woodland, misty wood with floating islands and jumping through a portal, I found myself in the land of “other.”
STORY: The game unfolds like a book. Scenes are often played that pause and ask you to find items. Jace has a resonate, relaxing voice and the lip-sync is spot on. You play as his sister. Jace is a constant companion to begin with, but then he chases after an “other,” and you must find him by jumping into the portal. There is a definite sense of urgency created. There are hints along the game, that the first “others” came to help humans. Humans however, changed the nature of that interaction.
HOGS and PUZZLES: The HOGS are part of the game and are of the silhouette type and interactive. Often, you have achieved something after the HOG is completed, like you are able to find your direction, or you have created a necessary item to continue you quest. The puzzles are of all kinds and seem to be a little easier than usual, like matching symbols and pictures. The main emphasis seems to be on working out what to do in the game itself.
MUSIC and SOUND: Very good and suitable. Not constant and it changes to suit the occasion. My biggest gripe is that the ambience is tied in with the music. No matter how good the music, at some point I always want to turn it down and enjoy the background sounds, but this option is not available.
HINT: Tells you what needs to be done next, but not what item to use.
TASKBAR: Very clever! The task bar stays visible at all times, but what they’ve done to increase the area of your screen during play, is to only block of half of where your inventory lies. It works! So the lower half of your inventory has a plain background, but the other half is the game itself. Hope that makes sense.
LEVELS OF DIFFICULTY: 4 levels of difficulty, which includes “custom” and which are changeable during gameplay.
CONS: Unable to listen to background sounds and music separately.
EXTRAS: Bonus chapter, 28 raven silhouettes (no morphing objects), achievements, repayable hidden objects and mini-games, wallpapers, movies, screensavers, concept art and music.
I’ve been waiting for something like this to come out ever since I played Lost Lands: The Four Horsemen and then more recently Emberwing. I’ll be checking out the previous Bridge to another world: Burnt Dreams after this! These DEVS, Friends4Games, also created the Living Legends series. SO FAR, no-one is inappropriately clad. Hopefully that won’t change now or in the bonus.
Well back to continue on with my journey and to find my brother Jace!!
