Beautiful artsy graphics. Really nice music too. Creepy theme, but only mildly creepy to play. You do see some dead bodies, but the detail is minimal. LOTS of HOPS! Most of the HOPS are really pretty to look at. The puzzles were fun. This game kept my interest, and I wanted to keep playing.
The hint button will only tell you if you need to move on, and/what area to look at, but not what item to use. Like other older games, inventory doesn’t lock. You get a journal, and tasks, but I couldn’t see a map anywhere. However, it isn’t that difficult to navigate, since there aren’t too many different places to go to at any one time. Didn’t fill my whole screen, so HOPS a little more difficult to see. Overall though, still very enjoyable.
I recommend this game!

Well-crafted tale and good-length game. Great mood created by the way this game is directed: the intentional pauses and gradual zoom-ins, just like in a movie. The graphics have plenty of light and are artsy (not cartoonish or gaudy). Lots of sound effects that enhance the game like rain and thunder. The characters are done well and are well-voiced. I I found the very end a little disappointing because it just didn’t seem to fit. The first twist is good, but then it does it again, and it seemed like a very silly twist to me that wasn’t required, but never mind!
The HOPS often have cleverly hidden objects, although can be a little blurry at times. The puzzles are a mixed bag and if you click the hint, you will actually see the solution. There is skip too. This is an older game with no lip sync. No map or journal, but it’s not that difficult as far as navigation goes, because the hint system will help you in the right direction. I don’t mind traveling the same route multiple times when the art-work is good, because it’s like I’m really there. Other notes: inventory doesn’t stay locked, plus doesn’t fill the screen.

Not like the previous 3 in the series. Everything here is average: the graphics, the story, the lack of tension, the characters. I found this game quite boring and couldn’t finish it.

I really tried to like this game. It was just so boring. The concept is really good but I found the whole thing tedious and couldn’t finish it. This might have been the last time I made the mistake of not trialing a game. I guess there is a game with HOS and puzzles going here and a storyline to follow. I like to feel relaxed, wowed and stunned by beauty, intrigue and mystery. And this game, is not that. It fell flat for me.

PROS: Interesting art-work, more HOS than in more recent games, interesting and different puzzles of varied difficulties. HOS were cleverly hidden. If you hover on the word, a silhouette appears too. Nice length game. Map is a jump-map and also had exclamation marks to denote areas for action. Hint button will NOT guide you anywhere, BUT detailed instructions appear along the top, telling you exactly which room to go to, what to do, with what and exactly what to retrieve. You get a diary which records important info. There are lions to collect throughout the game!
Some of the art-work reminded me somehow of drawings you’d see in a childhood story book and I thoroughly enjoyed them.
CONS: Although there is sound, there are large spans where there are no sounds, and background ambient sounds are more or less non-existent. Since I had the repetitive music turned down, it was a relatively quiet to silent-sounding game. Since ambient sound is really important to me, I deducted a whole point because of this. No voices and no lip-movement, but personally that doesn’t bother me. Not full-screen, and dark-lit graphics, therefore making the HOS harder to see. Although the map is a jump-map, when you click on an area, a picture appears and you have to recognize the location from that, because there are no names on this map. The names appear AS you enter the room. So you have to REMEMBER the rooms or take a pot-luck chance that you guessed right, exit it, and re-enter it for the name to appear.
I recommend this game!

I was very wrapped up in this game. I bought the CE since some reviewers mentioned that you don’t get the conclusion of the story otherwise. However, if you read the letters carefully and know where you are when you read them, you get to make a good guess at who it was; it is suggested to you, but you could miss it if you miss one particular letter or skimp over its contents.
If you do buy the CE, the bonus is some more fun, is as good as the main game and the true culprit is revealed there at the end, if you want to know for certain.
I’m not a fan of the earlier Shiver series in general because of the overwhelming gray (although I did play Lily’s Requiem, which made me take a look at this one). This game DOES have color though in addition to the gray being there, and also nice detail with it being set in a manor house. Lots of rooms!
The storyline is very clever and keeps you guessing! Very atmospheric and good voiceover!
I recommend this game!

A fun game to play! Dare you listen to this Diva’s tunes? What’s going on and why? Will the warning be delivered in time? Will you save the day? An all round good game I thought.

Something about this game drew me in immediately (the cake?!)! It had tension throughout, it had mystery ,it had good graphics, a cool story, and an extremely well done baddie that had a great voiceover. I loved the weirdness in parts that had the crazy Alice in Wonderland tea-party feel. I thought the story actually made a great point, about being careful about you wish for, (have a specific plan!) otherwise, the way you might get it, might just be the last thing you wish for! The only drawback I had was experiencing a glitch: if it’s still there, make sure you get the feathers from the Egyptian, cat-person statue holding the cage, (about mid-way); I didn’t and then couldn’t, and couldn’t progress. I had to restart. So watch out for that. Other than that, great game!
I recommend this game!

An absolutely superb game worthy of 5*, except for the early-ending shocker. Beautifully done woodlands and farmlands, plus the rest of nature that goes with it. Also cozy, mysterious huts, cabins, small village and church and Mordor-like tower. The sound effects are truly relaxing and mesmerizing. A HOPA with LOTS of HOS! I found the HOS attractive to look at and enjoyable. The puzzles were fine. If you click on on the hint button, it’ll give you the instructions.
Note: Doesn’t fill entire screen, inventory can’t be locked. Very little interaction with characters.
I was thinking what a truly outstanding game this was, and it WAS. Except sadly, it finished then, about 1.5 to 2hrs before I thought it should… The DEVS must’ve run out of money or something?!
