This is the first puppet show game I’ve played of the series. It was weird and bizarre, but in a good way! The characters had personality, and the townspeople were very creepy. It was slightly violent. Good graphics, HOPS and puzzles. Lots of places to go to.
I reckon this game strikes a chord with us, because there’s an element of truth to it. The real world can be such a mechanical place at times, like it chugs along of its own accord with rules and regulations, but people often end up losing a connection with their emotions and become numb because of the harshness and/or the inflexibility of the reality they are living. Then to feel alive, they do something stupid. And, haven't we all been there?
I recommend this game!

It wasn’t spooky but it definitely moved more into the arena of horror. I decided to do myself a favor and stop playing it about half-way through. In one scene, you do come across a lot of withered corpses, which made me feel sick.
The story, graphics, HOPS and puzzles were all very good and it was a tough decision to call it a day. The guy you speak to through the cell door IS scary, because you are instantly reminded of the movie ‘Silence of the Lambs’, which I did watch a long, long time ago.
Filled the whole screen. Colorful and interesting graphics.
I recommend this game!

Older game: first review on BFG was in January 2012. LOTS of HOPS. Straight-forwards word-lists. NO puzzles. Large stretch in the middle of this game where there is a lack of tension. The map isn’t a travel map, and is located in your journal and there was WAY too much to-ing and fro-ing, like from one end of the game to the other, again and again. The music however was exceptionally good, and effective. The loop consisting of violins, cellos, the occasional harpsicord and more, was long enough, with enough variety, that I listened to A LOT of it. Graphics were quite nice. The game looked MUCH better at night. Good length game. You do see lots of skull and some clothed skeletons in this game. Yuck.
I recommend this game!

Older game: first review on BFG was in 2012.
In the beginning I thought this was a great find: beautifully done landscapes and otherworldly structures, crisp, clear, colorful and detailed graphics, gorgeous underwater scenes and ambient sounds that relax you to hear them. Wow, I loved it. The scenic backgrounds were what kept me coming back to this game, but I never finished it due to tedium; it just fizzled out. There was no motivation to continue. I must have got more than half way.
I think the introductory scene where the creature is banging his palm on a surface, makes it appear as though it’s going to be somewhat scary, but it really isn’t. Unfortunately though, the characters lack personality.
The puzzles were pretty easy and the HOPS were a medium amount but not particularly attractive. Because the HOPS weren’t nice to look at, I found the HOPS to be more of a chore than a joy. They look better in the sample shot that BFG provides for game info.
I recommend this game!

(Note: older game, first review on BFG in 2012). Really great details in surrounding rooms of the mansion. You get to see both sides of the mansion, the current peeling, disheveled one and the former glorious, spangly one. Wonderful, realistic looking graphics. Lots of HOPs but not all items always clear. You should know there are very few puzzles, it doesn’t fill entire screen and there’s no map. However, this is a game I thoroughly enjoyed because of the atmosphere and details.
I recommend this game!

(Note: older game – first BFG review for this game was July 2012)
You should know that there’s NO MAP. The HINT button takes you nowhere,- instead you get a message indicating what needs to be done in what specific area.
The story is propelled forwards through the notes you find lying around that have come loose from a journalist’s investigation. The graphics are detailed, and in places gray and foreboding. The artwork in particular of the misty lake, trees, graveyard and dark skies filled with fast moving billowing clouds, accompanied by rain and thunder, is awesome. The music and sound effects are completely appropriate. It all worked together to produce quite an effect – and not one that I’d like to repeat often. The effect builds on you. (I'm not sure this game would have the same effect if you broke it up into play over several days.) There are plenty of rooms to unlock and secret passages to discover. The atmosphere kind of reminded me of the first Phantasm, except it was more chilling.
It starts off pretty normally, but once you get into the dilapidated mansion house, it takes on a new momentum. There are plenty of puzzles and plenty of HOPS. The puzzles were challenging, but not so hard that I had to skip. There seem to be two lots of HOPS here, one that are artsy to look at, and one type that aren’t. The non-artsy HOPS are more difficult to see. You might have to play this in a darkened room, or at night. It’s an older game and looked better on my screen in the non-stretched mode.
Obviously this game doesn’t have the features of a 2015 style game, but I gave it 4* for its ability to pull me into the game, and some of the wonderful outdoor scenes that looked like paintings of the rugged side of nature.
I recommend this game!

LOTS of puzzles – some VERY DIFFICULT. Lots of HOPS too. I had to skip the hardest puzzles...of which there are many. Colorful and sweet looking, and actually not nightmarish. Fairly well detailed, but not the best. Interesting, but I found it fell neither into the category of particularly relaxing, nor particularly gripping. Mix of modern and Victorian and fantasy. Did fill my whole screen. Not bad for a game I got for the $2.99 deal.
I recommend this game!

Note: there is a map, which you'll find you need to use, but it’s not a travel map - you need to “walk it”. This is an older game.
Absolutely stunning scenes painted in a certain stylized manner. However, HOPS of which there are MANY, were NOT pretty to look at and were not that clear. I loved picking/collecting the strawberries. There are 60 to collect. Loved the silly goat that makes truffles for you and some of the funny comments you get from interactions.
There are a few unpleasant things revealed in the story along the way, about the past happenings in this land. It’s not really a happy story, it’s more of a loss of something that once was, in a beautiful land. This game created a feeling of melancholy in me, and so I could never play it for more than 15-20 minutes in one session in the beginning. There are some gorgeous scenes further into the game. Very nice music.
The inventory is unusual, because there is a button you press which flips it over, and this side collects certain useful papers you’ll need along the way. The inventory also has little circles along the top, in which you store certain powers, or helpers.
If I remember correctly, the hint button tells you WHERE actions need to be taken, but you don't get the full answer.
Decent length game!
I recommend this game!

Loved the characters, the mansion house, and the evening pelting down with rain. Quite a who-dunnit! Gorgeous graphics and artwork. Great atmosphere in the rooms. Some nice food scenes too, which are always a big hit with me, especially stacks of desserts arranged on trays!
Quite a few puzzles and HOPS: a variety of puzzles, and mainly straight-forward word-list HOPS, with some other types thrown in here and there. The only thing that I have to say negative is that the environment sounds are tied in with the music. I was happy that no violence in action and no blood is shown.
I recommend this game!

The graphics are crisp and sharp. The story and characters are excellent. The voice-overs are truly well done. I liked the spaciousness and grottiness of the mostly ruined, old university, because the details and graphics were so nicely done. Infact the graphics were excellent! The backdrop happens to be mountains. Nice.
There were very few HOPS, very few puzzles and the game is mainly adventure – a very intriguing one- and of course there are lots of items to find in the environment. The puzzles that were present were a mixed bag and the HOPS were fun to do, nice to look at and straight-forward word-lists, with one or two items requiring extra work.
I can't remember seeing anything scary, there was just great atmosphere created by good timing, good cut-scenes, excellent graphics and environmental sound effects.
I recommend this game!
