Appropriate amount of tension and nothing dull. Totally intriguing and keeps you guessing. Nothing in this game is disturbing, and in some respects is more like a serious version of a Grimm tale fairy tale (although this definitely isn’t a fairy tale, and is not for kids).
GRAPHICS: clear details. In many places looks like photos. Most of the locations and scenes are very enjoyable. You don’t just stay at the hotel, but spend some quality time at a farmhouse, surrounded by beautiful farmland, and which includes a farm garden. Even though the characters say they were living very humbly, indoors they have some very nice furniture! (The must have inherited it!).
Great PUZZLE mix. Lovely HOPS. An inventory that locks. Real characters. HINT button will help you as much as you need, and the JUMP MAP completely shows you where things need doing.
Would’ve definitely been a 4* or even 5* if it weren’t for the “bubbled" collection and use of items, which led to a severe lack of challenge (see HOPS below). Gorgeous GRAPHICS, and what I mean by that, is the old crumbly plaster in the old, deserted garage, with the light filtering through, casting a shine on the old 1930’s (perhaps, I have no idea!)) automobiles, is AWESOME. It is a happy, old, rusty, dusty, nice. The beginning ½ is especially atmospheric with the pharmacy, the garage, the diner, then moving onto the library, town, and the football stadium, photographers, printers, home and factory. Everything is old and worn. I loved the fact that you can walk into the diner and once you’ve got everything set up, listen to a whole record on the juke-box! The question is…what has happened to your memories? Why are there robots stomping around? What happened to the town? Mostly very easy PUZZLES, but some not so easy. HOPS: Not your typical HOPS. There aren’t any!! You basically don’t have to think much, just wait for your cursor to morph into the indicating magnifying glass, and suddenly bubbles appear that show you which items you need to find. You then find those items in your environment, like in any other game, they go into your inventory, and then you place them in the appropriate bubble. Unfortunately, that part was ZERO challenge, and no fun.
Older game: first review on BFG for this game was November 2011. You have to be in the mood to play this, because the ambiance is different to most other games. It is also stunningly BEAUTIFUL and stunningly CHALLENGING. You are basically on a hunt to find out exactly what happened to your parents many years ago and you end up at a cottage in the woods, in the country-side. You then get orchards and centuries old buildings, and moss and weeds, and fields and churches in ruins. Some spell-work is required to resolve things. ***ARTWORK: Gorgeous artwork. Relaxed and peaceful. Scenes that artists have taken time over, with attention to detail. The scenes are far from realistic, but are very stylized. If you love nature, then you will love this. Doesn’t fill the whole screen ***HOPS: For some people, there will be difficult to see items. Some (not all) of the HOPS have up to 5 or 6 near impossible to see items, resulting from a combination of the colors being well-blended and because they are faded/small. ***PUZZLES: A mix and also a running puzzle of matching symbols in a certain configuration. ***NO MAP ***INVENTORY: Is double-sided. You click a button to flip it over. One side collects items, and the other side only collects notes, and puzzle helps, which you will have to use. You will get lots of items in your inventory, maybe 11 or 12 at times. ***DIFFICULTY: Casual / Expert ***SOUNDS: 2 options for effects and music only. Sound effects are appropriate, like birds, or the fire. You can mute the voices. ***HINT: Will tell you in writing, what to do and in what location. Takes 30 seconds to recharge in casual.
I recommend this game!

The STORY is a nice, typical type of story. Felt adventurous, going off on a boat. Time Lords have been released, and the world is going to pieces. You need to put a golden sarcophagus back together. Lots of water and nature. Typical ERS graphics, which I find middle of the road, but you can always see clearly, so that’s good. Not scary. JOURNAL/ NOTEBOOK: Saves to your digital device. You get: tasks, travel map, pics, replayable videos. “Tasks” will also tell you what % of the game you have completed. I really like this feature. HOPS: Plenty, mainly wordlist type with minimal interaction (eg 2-3 items per HOP), and there are a handful of “find the silhouettes in the scene, then use it” type of HOP as well. The puzzles were a mix.
You thought this would be just like any other investigation. But now you find yourself lost in a mysterious mansion brimming with strange creatures, comatose colleagues, and mysterious tentacles around every corner...
Pink flamingoes that crane their necks towards you, so that their googly eyes are just inches from your face, and more silliness! This game is an absolute gem of bizarre, haphazard imaginations. In fact, the only parts that are more “normal” are the nightmare sections themselves!
As many reviewers have said, in either praise or disappointment, this game IS NOT scary or creepy. It won’t make you shiver or feel ill, you won’t jump out of your skin, and you will not be mentally scarred for days.
GRAPHICS: in many parts of the game, better than the usual ERS game graphics. HOPS: a good 15 or so it seemed, mainly wordlists, some that require minimal interaction, and some silhouetted objects, that are also interactive. PUZZLES: straightforwards, and in addition, includes a puzzle that pops up several times during the game that requires assembling a line of symbols, the same as in dominoes. SOUNDS: ok, but nothing outstanding and I muted the music. HINT button: doesn't give you everything, it will show you that something needs to be done, but not what to use and occasionally you just have to backtrack for info in your notebook; MAP: in with notebook, is a jump map. INVENTORY: can be locked.
A very enjoyable, who-dunnit mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed this game. ***Well-paced STORY: You keep finding out new nuggets of information at regular intervals, so the story keeps moving forwards: it just got more and more interesting. Various people starred in a previous version of this “cursed” movie and died off one by one. It is being re-made now and the curse is back! ***Clear GRAPHICS. I loved the Art Deco style everywhere I went: at Silverwood Studios, a Director’s swanky house, and at someone’s place who is a movie memorabilia fan. ***The CHARACTERS are there in the beginning to help set the theme, and for you to establish who’s who. After that, it’s more or less you on your own, meeting other characters here and there. ***Quite a lot of HOPS and a lot of nice looking ones too. I like this style they do; step one being where you start off finding 5 of this and 5 of that, then step 2 are the word list types. The PUZZLES were a range of all types and with varying difficulty, I skipped quite a few. ***The MUSIC was very nice and suited the theme. ***The HINT will show you what to use and where IF you are already standing at the right spot. Sometimes it’ll lead you somewhere, sometimes it won’t. Often you might get a,”nothing here” type comment.
Great Daily Deal! This is the first of the “Final Cut” series that I’ve played. I’m looking forwards to playing the latest release, “Final Cut: Fade to Black” soon!
Once upon a time in the small, undistinguished town of Silentville people started disappearing. Help uncover the mystery behind these disappearances and save the town from a curse!
Older game. First review on BFG was 2012 Loved the cobblestones, old architecture, clock towers, and décor, winding garden paths and also the dark, foreboding, greyish-blue sky of moving clouds. Mist has settled around the city, with wisps of it being blown here and there. All over, there is the warm golden glow from the many lamps, indoors and outdoors. Wandering over to the light-house and the outdoor gardens, the sky gives the impression of just having had a thunderstorm, when just momentarily, the sun peeks out through a crevice in the clouds and shines against the darkness.
You discover how the citizens of Silentville got trapped in one moment of time. Cut scenes tell the characters’ stories via line drawings, of each of their experiences. By talking to them, you get clues as to what might be the cause.
Honestly, I found this game just got better and better as time progressed. It was quite a long game. Not spooky, but there’s an element of a rite being performed. However there isn’t a scary scene in the game (not even one skull or skeleton).
2 SOUNDS: Music and Environment: The sound effects, although not constant are appropriate. Overall it is a pretty quiet game, which is ok when you’re in a quiet game-playing mood. I was.
HOPS : PLENTY. First half of the game dominated by HOPS. Note: NOT all the hidden objects that require interaction are highlighted! Obviously they didn’t get the memo ;) , and some words turns blue, AFTER you’ve completed the 1 or 2 step interaction. I enjoyed “rummaging” around in the rooms and store-rooms, police station, train station, town hall and more.
HINT: ***Takes 30 seconds to renew. ***Will TRANSPORT YOU to a relevant area and circle what needs doing. If you do not have what is required, the hint will lead you to it.
MAP: is a travel map to a general area only, not a specific room. There are NO INDICATORS on the map for clues of where to go next.
PUZZLES: The 2nd half of the game starts to see more mini-games. Fairly straightforward. One was so much fun. It involved trying to aim balls in buckets, which for some reason are suspended, with sandbags counterbalancing them. You get the trajectory of the last attempt left in the air, to give you some hope. There’s another variable, which is stretch a spring-like control, and it’s difficult to control. So that adds to the fun! If you get a hit, the bucket swiftly moves to the ground and you’re one step closer to entering the door they are blocking.
Older game: first review for this game on BFG was: Oct 2012
The opening HOP is fantastic to look at. With my headphones on, I found the sea gurgles, bloops and humming very relaxing in the opening scenes. It looked like it was going to be a good game and the story-line seemed intriguing.
GRAPHICS: OK, but only once you get into the indoor complex I found the artwork to be only 1 step up from the concept art. It fills the whole screen, but there is very little detail. NOT a travel MAP. You must use the elevator multiple times (was it 20? 30? times?!) Uggh. Not fun. The INVENTORY doesn't lock. You DO get a JOURNAL. PUZZLES: quite a few – enjoyable – fairly straightforward. HOPS: nothing special to look at. I didn’t enjoy them. Yes, the first one of the game IS nice. BONUS GAME: Got really fed-up by the end and had to quit mid-way through the bonus game.
This game had potential, but it never reached it. I felt compelled to play it, because I’d bought it. I ended up using the HINT button a lot, trying to speed through it, or hopefully, get to a bit I would actually enjoy.

ULTRA CHALLENGE (even in casual)

The “evil” is left to the last couple of scenes (*see end of review if you wish to know), and is a teeny part of the whole game. Still, not for kids.
After playing several amazing games in a row, I needed something with no excessive movement, colors, plots and so on. However, it is anything but a simple game, due to bare minimal of guidance, and some unskippable puzzles and games.
GRAPHICS: Colorful and simple, sometimes reminding me of watercolor storybook pictures. Nice view of cliffs and countryside at the lighthouse. Indoors, the house has lovely (if slightly blurry), aged furnishings, with attention paid to the light and shadows.
FULLSCREEN (not widescreen). On my computer it played full-screen (not widescreen); I can imagine if you stretched it, it would look terrible.
2 DIFFICULTY OPTIONS: Casual and Advanced.
CELLPHONE and YELLOW STICKY NOTES: These are your tools for contact. Look-out for the yellow-stickies. Exit successive screens of the cell phone, by pressing the oval button at the bottom, until you are out.
HINT: ***The cursor does convert to a MAGNIFYING GLASS” if there’s something to click on or obtain. ***40 seconds to recharge on casual. ***Won’t lead you or tell you where to go. But it will give you a suggestion, eg, “you can pick a small lock with this,” or it will circle something in the inventory and tell you where to go and use it, eg, “you can use this in the aquarium.” ***Sparkles for the hidden object scenes on casual. ***Hint won’t help you in puzzles, except for a generalized aim. It won’t give you a first or next step.
***BATTERY FOR YOUR CAT – so you can receive HINTS! The cat is lying asleep at the right-side of the inventory. IF you get to the first HOP and get stuck because you haven’t added the battery, simply hit MENU, then hit PLAY again. This will get you out of the HOP, and give you a chance to put the battery in. When you return to the HOP, the HOP will start from the beginning again.
INVENTORY: stays locked at all times. When you hover over the items, you won’t get a description of the item. You have to CLICK AND DRAG the objects.
HOPS: TONS!!! Wordlist type and simple looking, but later on some actually look a bit more artistic. Some HOPS are difficult to see, but some are just well-hidden, or only half-showing.
PUZZLES: ***Basic instructions will appear if you click the Hint button. You won’t get first or next steps. ***The SKIP button will allow you to skip it. ***You can RESTART the puzzle by going to MENU and then back in to the puzzle. *** I came across at least 3 that you couldn’t skip: A “balance 7 weights”, that aren’t labeled, a “change all the squares to white” and some other, and of course the 8 cellphone games as described below.
8 CELL PHONE GAMES: You must beat the score of 1000 on all of them to progress. Use your JOKERS you collect on the game you find the most difficult. The jokers extend play. Extended play is sometimes MORE difficult than the first time around and you CAN’T get more Jokers once you’ve used them all up! I suggest practicing if need be, and getting at least 400-500 points before you start to use a joker.
The games are things like: ***Tennis-type: the ball rebounds and you destroy descending rectangles. ***Direct matching cupcakes onto columns to prevent them stacking up to the top. ***Hit the same color bug, that’s currently on the “shooting -bug’s" back, as they circle around you more and more. *** Feed the correct candy to the frog, according to the frog color. ***Direct speeding shapes onto the correct column before they hit the bottom. *** Get as many “jewels” in columns according to the changing color at the bottom, before you run out of time. ***2 more similar types.
MAP: NO MAP! : For your directional options: hover mouse to sides, top and bottom, and CORNERS (to get a diagonal arrow). In addition, if you move in a particular direction, you MIGHT just be looking back into in the SAME room. So be SURE to take notice of what the features of the room are, to get your bearings.
Exit a scene or a window within a scene by clicking the green ‘x’ in a circle, which appears sometimes in the top right and sometimes top left-hand corner.
SOUND EFFECTS: Environment and music. However, there weren’t any actual environment sounds, only mouse-click actions and/or music. But with the mouse-click etc there is a subtle but pleasant hum going on in the background.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SPOILER ALERT:PUZZLE HELP >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ***Clock-face PUZZLE: There’s one puzzle that doesn’t give you ANY clues. You are faced with about 50 or so clock-faces counting down. What you have to do is match 2 times, until there are none left.
***”CANDY TO THE FROG” CELL PHONE GAME: To give the same color candy to the same color frog, don’t click on the candy as it passes over the frog and don’t go up and down or pull the string that connects the candy, you’ll have very limited success if you do. Instead, go ACROSS the string (side to side), in a sawing motion!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SPOILER ALERT: LAST SCENES. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> In a dingy hovel, you see, half a skeleton lying on a table, knives hanging up, a skull, and chains with handcuffs. The evil man, speaking to you on the phone, makes this last bit worse. The last scene is a man tied to a chair with dynamite next to him. He is facing away from you.
I couldn’t tell from the ending if something bad really happened or if it was all some kind of “hoax experience” like a theme park at Halloween (except much worse). Either way, it was a bit of a weird and unpleasant ending.
I had to give it 4*, because I enjoyed it more than many games I’ve given 4* to. It was DIFFERENT!
((WATCH OUT! You can’t change your difficulty level once you have started, without starting as a new player.))
Loved the graphics, the natural looking colors and the details. Many different graphics styles are used in this one game. All good! Cut-scenes use real actors and places. The story has nothing to do with the occult.
The perspectives are wonderful and spacious. Starts with a gorgeous, sky and mountain, then moves onto: funfair-carnival at night, beautiful, winding, country trail-tracks, with silhouetted trees and distant mountain peak, dirt track garages, forest, farmland summer house, being as tiny as a mouse in a living room, stunning 150+yr old factory with aged old bricks with stones and crumbling tarmac ; the light and shadows on the partially rusted metal, the dirty and mottled paint is so good that you can almost smell the oil (the detail and perspectives were so spot-on that the artist must have taken real pictures of this place), and finally, underwater and snowy landscape.
***There are 3 level of difficulty. You can’t change your level once you have begun, without restarting as a new player. . ***Quite a lot of puzzles. Some of which I found very difficult. But there are a good mix. ***Interactive and fragment HOPS. Lots of tool HOPs. ***The inventory stays locked at all times ***Only 2 sounds to control but all ambient, voice and environmental and mouse-click effects are all well-balanced; there is nothing that drowns out the rest. ***No other characters, just you, your wife and your non-cutesy (but cute anyway), cat. ***No map, but it isn’t required, because the game is chaptered, and you have LOTS to do in 2 or 3 areas each time. ***Visit the achievements room and also find the cat there, who will entertain you if you click on his surrounding belongings.
