Details in the detective’s work are discussed thoroughly step -by-step, but the game does not sink to sharing details of gore either verbally or visually. You do hear the words ‘violence’ and ‘brutality’ and whether the victim(s) have been stabbed. If you are looking for a gore-fest, this is NOT it and I didn’t find it disturbing, since there was no focus on suffering or cruelty. No blood, no analysis of the serial killer’s mental state. The cat and mouse game that the killer plays is enough to keep this story involving and interesting. It was very refreshing to be in the city
GRAPHICS: Good, clear, relaxing. You are in cities, alleys, garages, train-stations and trains. Filled my whole screen, even if you choose the smaller screen it almost fills the whole screen.
HOPS: Very nice! Quite a few. 20?
PUZZLES: Quite a few.
SOUNDS: “Music” and “Sound.” The music is very atmospheric and I had it on most of the time! It really helped set the scene. Sounds are well-balanced, and I didn’t find anything annoying.
HINT: You CANNOT CHANGE DIFFICULTY once you’ve started. I played in Hard mode, but you still get hint (which I was glad, because I couldn’t change), but it takes a good 30 seconds or more to recharge.
MAP: NONE
INVENTORY: Stays visible
JOURNAL: YES
CHARACTERS: Angelica talks you through her thoughts as she investigates the crimes. She is thorough, street-wise, and she does not get ruffled. As she analyzes the crime, she periodically comes across a ghost or has some other psychic connection experience, that helps her determine what actually happened. NO mouth-movement. Great voice-over.
OTHER: This is an SE, but there are 40-70 police badges to collect!! (Once you’ve collected 40, the number suddenly jumps up to 70 to collect). There are some achievements too.
Please make another one in the same style! Same graphics, same sound-type, same lack of gore/ lack of unpleasantness, same character, just a new story.
I recommend this game!

'Ha Har, me Hearties' and 'Shiver me Timbers!', I gotta PUZZLES game ‘ere!
The outstanding features of this game are its never-ending supply of DIFFERENT SCENES and PUZZLES, and the SOUND EFFECTS.
GRAPHICS The graphics are more on the basic side, in that the finer details in many places are missing. HOWEVER, the scenes are structurally awesome, and have to be based on actual photos: the rocks, the paths and steps through cliffs. You get the SERENITY of multiple and varied water scenes and caves, moss and fern-covered trees and rocks, all under a clear, full-moon evening. I liked the NATURAL COLORS. You may need to set your computer brightness to max.
HOPS: A good number, but not as many as the puzzles. Straight forward word-lists with minimal interaction.
PUZZLES: LOTS and of different types, and different levels. You can skip.
SOUNDS: SOOTHING. Waterfalls, rain, waves, rivers, echoing birdsong and crackling fires. Top marks for sound. Separate control to music which is great!
HINT: Will lead you and show you what to use. Casual takes about 15 seconds to renew. 3 levels of difficulty and a customizable option, which can be changed from the MENU during the game.
MAP: TRAVEL map, and will indicate areas where you can do stuff next. Very helpful in this game.
INVENTORY: Can lock.
JOURNAL: YES.
CHARACTERS: Minimal interaction. Somehow the characters are very well done; maybe it’s the voice-overs.
OTHER: Collect Dubloon coins throughout the game, to repair the ship.
I recommend this game!

This game strikes the right balance. I found it interesting, imaginative, with excellent graphics, and I had never had any reactions that fell into the “cringe” category. Lots of HOPS, most of which were also good to look at. Characters done well, and a good mix of puzzles.
GRAPHICS: MY FAVORITE sort: clear, sharp, and detailed, with contrasts of light and dark, a mix of real and created images with NATURAL COLORS. You can go for widescreen.
HOPS: LOTS of HOPS 30 or more? Mix of all kinds: silhouettes, return displaced items, and regular word list with some interaction involved.. All nice to look at. Fridge alert…there’s a food HOP!
PUZZLES: All sorts, with varying difficulty. I found 2 or 3 pretty difficult and skipped.
SOUNDS: 2 sounds. Environment and Music are linked, however, I found that the music is nice enough and not constant; it plays during the HOPS and puzzles. Annoying mouse-click sound (like a “tap!” or sharp “clap!”)
HINT: Will lead you and show you what to use.
MAP: Travel map! I’m glad it was, in this game and it indicates where there’s action required.
INVENTORY: Is lockable. Interesting because you carry items from people’s minds into the real world.
JOURNAL: Yes, and you will refer to it for codes etc.
CHARACTERS: Really well done, with good voice-overs but no mouth movement.
I recommend this game!

Older game of a few years: Pretty Good. Starts as a 5*, but ends teetering on a 3.5*
Lots of places to go: streets, work places, homes and outdoors. Interesting story, but falls short in continuing story development. Good quality graphics carried it through once the story got stale.
GRAPHICS: Top quality. Not over-the-top colors, but natural, mixed with gray, moody skies. Also real images mixed with created visuals. I love it when they do that. Wouldn’t play widescreen for me.
HOPS: Plenty: 30? Word lists with many interactive. Not as nice looking as the general graphics. However, mostly EASY to see
PUZZLES: Occur regularly. Pretty straightforward.
SOUNDS: One for Music and one for Effects. Annoying effects at times, had to mute occasionally (too much wailing sometimes).
HINT: Will lead you and show you where to go. It will indicate if something from the inventory needs to be used then, but you might have to use trial and error since it doesn’t always manage to specify the item.
Difficulties Casual /Advanced and cannot be changed during game. Hint took 30 seconds to recharge on Casual, even for the HOPS.
MAP: NONE
INVENTORY: NOT lockable and you will end up carrying 12 or so items at times.
JOURNAL: Yes
CHARACTERS: REAL people play the characters. Not much interaction, but they help tell the story in cut-scenes. The voice-overs were hilariously out-of-sync, due to dubbing.
TRYING TO DECIDE? CE or SE?
What do you get in the CE? A 5* BONUS game, which is actually very good (woods and caves), and which elaborates a little on the origins of this Dark Dimension, but it's not very long. *******NO awards****,NO collectibles**** and NO morphing objects****
You DO get music, wallpapers & concept art and of course the bonus game.
I recommend this game!

This is an older game, which I found relaxing, challenging and refreshing.
STORY: Find the students who’re lost somewhere on a leafy, rocky island. You must collect 56 crystals, which is intrinsic to game completion.
CHARACTERS: Very little interaction. There are NO voice-overs.
GRAPHICS: Gritty and clear, with gray and earthy, muted colors. Island coast visible in most scenes, until you go underground. Lots of detail, but nothing fancy. Cloudy and dramatic sky. . Nice details like a chink of light emanating from rolling dark clouds..
HOPS: LOTS, words and silhouette: mainly gadgets and tools. Nice to look at because of light and shading.
PUZZLES: Minigames occur regularly.
SOUNDS: Great sounds, 3 options: Environment, Sound Effects and Music.
Very happy that music is separate, so I can put it on low and keep the all-important Environment.
Enivonment: Rain changes if you’re indoors versus outdoors.
Music: appropriate, atmospheric, non-obtrusive (I kept it on low some of the time).
HINT: 2 difficulty levels, and on Casual the Hint took 20 seconds to recharge. Hint won’t lead you. It will indicate what needs to be done at the area you are standing at and then next or 3rd time, will open up a little window (NOT for traveling/jumping into), to show you what to attend to.
INVENTORY: NOT lockable
MAP, TASK, NOTES are together in the JOURNAL
MAP: Yes. NOT a travel map.
JOURNAL: Yes and stores notes/clues you will need to refer to.
I recommend this game!

I was scouring the games for a “particular kind of game” and this fit the bill. Quirky and spooky (not scary or violent). I read the reviews and knew this was for me. You must want to play a challenging game to really enjoy this. I had to refer to the BFG walkthrough for this game 3 -4 times. Game took just over 4hrs (game records your time as a ‘score’), but I wasn’t rushing and played it over a few nights.
GRAPHICS: Lots of shading, lots of painting, and has certain styling; all very nice and suited the game. A little dark. You will need to increase your computer brightness to maximum. Didn’t fill my whole screen, the other option is for windowed.
HOPS: A LOT. 30 or so? If you click on a word, a silhouette will appear in left lower corner to help you. Items are easy to see (IF you maximize screen brightness).
PUZZLES/MINIGAMES: Quite a few. I think, some were skippable, but not all; some you could use ‘hint.' Emphasis was on the adventure and HOPS components.
SOUNDS: Two adjustable options: music and ambient. Nice nature sounds when outdoors.
HINT: Does not lead you. Will often give you written clues, but not always!
INFO: If you press “INFO” just next to the hint, you will get your current task or the area you are in.
MAP: NONE
INVENTORY: NOT lockable. You will often carry 12 items or more.
CHARACTER INTERACTION: Very, very little.
JOURNAL: NONE
Yes, there are blank screens here and there, but not after every single transition, and for me they didn’t last more than 1-2 seconds. Sometimes there would be loading up to 100%, but this didn’t happen often. Occasionally, it was a little tiring having to navigate without a travel map, but I didn't play this game in one go, so it didn't matter to me.
I recommend this game!

Detailed graphics, but a bit on the gloomy side. Gloomy-gloomy, not gloomy-cozy. Places looked so worn and dirty, it was not shabby-chic, it was shabby-grungy! It looked as if a fire had swept through some of the places. Rained heavily throughout, and contributed to me feeling cold! Urgghhhh….shudder…
Interesting story and characters.
GRAPHICS: The detail is very clear. Game fills the whole screen: Widescreen/Fullscreen. In this game, Fullscreen has the effect of aspect ratio adjustment, and more or less fills the screen.
HOPS: quite a few, 15 maybe? Wordlist type, with some hightlighted where minimal interaction is required.
PUZZLES: typical sort.
HINT: will lead you, and will show you what to use and where.
INVENTORY: is not lockable.
JOURNAL: that you will need to refer to sometimes for clues and codes.
TRAVEL MAP: tells you exactly where the next step is in your game.
SOUNDS: Rain throughout. Good voice acting.
ENDS ON A HIGH NOTE. This game got better the more I played it.
40 BEYOND OBJECTS in the SE! (morphing objects).
I recommend this game!

A completely absorbing story. Although it is technically a “horror”, I didn’t find it jarring or disturbing. You jump, but just because it’s an unexpected and sudden occurrence. The violence shown is minimal and therefore, the spooky factor of creeping about and wondering what is going to be revealed next is what this game is all about. Not for kids.
The story has strands of “Omen” the one starring Gregory Peck running through it. But it’s not nearly as shocking of course.
GRAPHICS: Kind of dark (to see). You will need to adjust your computer’s brightness to FULL. However, the graphics are beautiful. My kind of scenery, distant misty mountains, grey/purple andpink moody skies, with fast moving clouds (all natural looking), “sculptures” of trees, barren of leaves…. I loved the night’s atmosphere , the contrasts of light and dark, purplish skies, with cracks in the earth releasing orange fiery light. These graphics are not cartoon-like, and in many places look realistic.
CHARACTERS: have lots of character, and are more cartoonish compared to the rest of the graphics.
HOPS: Lots. Some objects difficult to see, especially because doesn’t fit whole screen. Some scenes in particular (a handful) have you pulling the computer screen closer and closer.
PUZZLES: None of my personal favorites present, but quite a few puzzles here.
SOUNDS: Ony 2 options, sound and music. With music muted, you are only muting the music, not any special sound effects and so, you still get all the other sounds and they’re well balanced.
HINT: Will lead you and indicate what to do. Sometimes will say “time to move on.” 30 seconds to recharge on casual (3 difficulty options)
MAP: NONE, therefore you will have to rely on the hint sometimes.
INVENTORY: Is NOT lockable
I recommend this game!

In the beginning, your adventure takes you across waterfalls, dreamy clouds, and a floating castle. BEAUTIFUL graphics, and landscape artistry. This part was stunning.
Later I got to the forest area where you have to change the seasons, and I began to lose interest, but once through that, I found the fun picked up again, when you visit an underwater city to find help. Finally, you battle your foe at a castle. This is a game for all ages.
The bonus game was very good, had an interesting story line and conclusion to the main story, which is then resolved.
You play as the King’s wife. Mainly orchestral music. Good voice acting. Morphing objects in the HOPS/minigames. You collect special objects that allow you to create or handle, fire, water, ice, and wind.
Although the parts were spoken well, the characters were somewhat weak and distant. Infact the only really interesting character was the baddie. He reminded me of Loki from Asgard, from one of those recent Hero movies.

Overall, I enjoyed this game, found it absorbing, and played it all over several days. I enjoyed the difficulty aspect. Ending though? Don’t take the ending judgement seriously. No wisdom there. It seemed more like one of those funfair-type, prediction potlucks. However, it could be that if you hold onto "fame" and "glory", you'll be rewarded. Give it up and apparently you have a "humdrum life"...insulting or what?! Would have easily scored a 4* if it wasn't for the unecessary judgement. Maybe I like my humdrum life!
Not a cookie-cutter, generic game.Yes, this is an “adventure” type game. There are NO Hidden Object scenes. I compared the positive reviews to the negative, and decided to give it a trial. It's a tough old game. Yes things jump out at you, often with scary faces, (I jumped several times!) but there is nothing gory in this game and you do not have to witness anything weird or cruel being done to anyone. The scare is similar to the way you jump if someone suddenly surprises you out of nowhere.
DIFFICULTY LEVELS: 2, Expert and Casual, and you CAN change levels during the game. Expert was a little too challenging for me, but casual gave just enough hints when I needed them. However, I needed the walkthrough on YouTube on at least 3 occasions.
HINT: The hint does not lead you or show you anything; instead you refer to your hint book which gives you written clues. The hint button takes a good minute or so to recharge.
SOUND: 2 sounds, good balance.
INVENTORY: doesn’t lock. You drag items from the inventory.
HOPS: NONE
PUZZLES: A handful of interesting and challenging puzzles.
MAP: NONE – it doesn’t really require one though, because you are in the one house. You will visit each room maybe 6, 7, 8, times or more!
GRAPHICS: Good enough and clear. Note: the letters are very well hidden and difficult to find because they are usually mild highlighted areas. I had to shut my eyes many times during the movement and turning to prevent dizziness. You can’t disable the 360 degree view and movement format.
You spend most of your time unlocking doors in a house, and finding specific letters in the house to achieve this. The cut-scenes are well done and are the only times you have someone talking to you. The ending spoils the game.
