Every time I see a new series, I'm so excited to see what it's about. This one did not let me down. The graphics are great—this game is just in time for winter, too, so very well timed—the hotel and "other side" locations are really nice, the atmosphere is appropriately dark but not too scary, and there are lots of little random things you can click on to get reactions from them. Instead of moving your mouse to the right spot to go back to a previous location (and sometimes accidentally clicking to go back when you're trying to click on something else), Domini inserted a button to do this more easily. I liked that, although it does take some getting used to. There are three collectibles: film (close-up scenes), door signs (full scenes), and hotel things (full scenes). These aren't always easy, especially since some of them are pretty small and some of them morph. The plot is basically that your friend is a journalist who thinks she can get an awesome story about a town/hotel with ghosts because she doesn't believe it's true. She finds out otherwise, and that's all I'll say so I don't spoil you. This is a great start to a new series, and I'm already looking forward to the next one!
I absolutely love this Halloween game! The ambience is PERFECT!
You start out playing a game where your friend accidentally summons Kriben, and off you go to a whole Halloween world! It's spooky but not too scary and includes new things and legends like Bloody Mary. The whole world, every detail, is dedicated to being creepy, like having eyeballs everywhere, extreme version of flytraps, and damaged floating doors. It's just fantastic and a lot of fun!
In each scene, you'll need to find at least one collectible. They could include Kriben's things (morph) in full scenes, monster statues in full scenes, or stone coins in close-up scenes. Some of them aren't so easy, but when one is available in a scene, it's indicated in the bottom left.
I don't have a problem with the plot being basically the oldest fantasy plot out there—you reach your 16th birthday and because you're half-blood human and magical, you're in danger now—but everything else makes this game intolerable for me. The graphics are (very) old, the acting and sound are pretty bad, the lip movements are crazy (when they decide to add them), there are glitches all over the place, the HOPs are very easy, and the puzzles are very easy. Everything is far too simple.
The only thing I can say for this game is that the music is nice. Unfortunately the rest is from an older era of HOP games long since surpassed.
The creativity in this game is wonderful! I'm really enjoying the fantastical atmosphere and how much attention to detail there is in every scene. The designer clearly went all out creating new worlds and locations, and I'm really into it.
In each scene there is a collectible, and in the bottom right-hand corner, you'll see what they are; the game tells you what you need to find in each scene. In close-up scenes, you can look for a feather collectible.
I just find this game so much fun to play, it's hard to stop. It's like reading an awesome fantasy novel with a lot of fun ideas and no creative limitations. If you're into that, this game is for you. if you like games to be more realistic, pass this one by.
I'm not sure why this game has a low rating. It's entertaining and enjoyable, there are plenty of collectibles (tokens, "personal stuff" which are morphs, and photos), the puzzles are fun, there are a good amount of HOPs...I'm not sure what else everyone wants.
The atmosphere is dark and dirty, so it fits right in with the theme of the game. We play a detective investigating a crime using the help of a long-time criminal who we put away years ago. If you love that gritty police detective feel, this game is for you.
Are there typos? Sure, as there are in every single game out there. I'm not sure why people get quite so upset about that when every game has them.
There are lots of tiny details and little things in each scene you can click on to get a reaction from the game, something I love in Domini Games. That adds to their attention to detail and interest in keeping players engaged.
Does this game reinvent the HOP game wheel? No, nor do most. It's a gritty, entertaining detective HOP. If you like that kind of thing, you'll like this game. If you don't like that kind of thing, this won't be your cup of tea.
I recommend the game as I love the feel, the number of HOPs, and a nice mystery.
Another Mystery Trackers case! I love that we get to switch to different character perspectives and work on the case from these different angles. Some puzzles are easy, some tricky, so there's a good mix. If you like games that are heavier on puzzles than HOPs, this game will appeal to you. The atmosphere is not too dark and not too light either.
What I didn't like was the voice acting, which could be irritating at times, and the lack of collectibles. There are two collectibles: puzzle pieces (one in every scene and they're in close-ups) and random things that belong to characters. There are only a few of those belongings, so they can be harder to spot. I would have liked if there was one more type of collectible in every scene.
Even though I enjoy Elf and like him, I can't say I noticed he was gone until I read other reviews. While he's great, he's not make or break for me.
While this isn't a game I'm desperate to get back to, like I always feel with Mad Head Games, it's certainly enjoyable and one to play.
Based on the reviews, I was hesitant to try this game, but I don't know what they're talking about. The first few levels teach you how to play and are short, so it's not like they take very long. They are each different, and the environment changes a lot in approximately level 6, which comes up quickly.
Even though this isn't a collector's edition, there's still a "hidden object" to find in each scene, which I really like, and you can easily tell from the map if you forgot to find it.
The levels are very attractive and the workers move quickly, which is another big plus.
This is a STUNNING game! I was wowed by the quality of the jewels and how amazing they looked. The music really goes with the game's concept and relaxing vibe. Even the special tools you get from matching 4+ jewels at a time were very pretty. I love this game all the way around!
What a novelty! A game that includes the option for mostly puzzles, mostly hidden objects, or a balance of both! Finally everyone can be satisfied. Well, I'm a big HOP lover myself, so I chose mostly HOPs, and I LOVE it!
The collectibles are fun. They start out easy and then get more tricky as you dig into the game. The include: • Two flower-covered cage morphs in each big scene • One jigsaw puzzle in random smaller scenes
The HOPs are varied and enjoyable, with some being straight HOPs, some minis, some morphing, etc. The puzzles are very doable, not impossible but not too easy either (most of the time).
Overall the game and its plot are very creative. The colors are vivid, and there's a lot going on in each scene. Well timed for Halloween but great for any time of the year.
I hate writing bad reviews, but this game shocked me with how old it seemed. If I played this game and wasn't told the date it was released, I would have said it was from a decade ago. The graphics in some areas are nice, particularly the worldbuilding, but a lot of things are so very old, and the movements are jerky. When the characters speak, their lip movements are really odd—I think they have three positions that are repeated over and over again, including the strangest, most unnatural "O" shape for the girl. Nowadays lip movements are very smooth and match the dialogue pretty well, so this was super weird. I was actually surprised at how distracting and annoying it was. There was an overabundance of puzzles that weren't very good, and lots of games of chance that didn't require any strategy or brain power. To me, games of chance are pointless. The HOPs were actually good, but far too few of them. I play these games for the HOPs, so I was not happy at all with that. What's the point of having good HOPs if there are hardly any? The storyline was okay, kind of like reading a fantasy novel. I did like having to "dig" for coins that were collectibles, but this is one of those games that has random collectibles (sometimes a manuscript, sometimes a "Giant's mark", sometimes a photo, etc.), and I'm personally not a fan of those. I don't know what to look for, so I don't find it fun. I find it irritating. If you like that though, then you'll enjoy the variety here. I have no idea what happened with this game. It's so far behind modern games that it's shocking. I wish they would update the graphics and spend more time making HOPs and less time on games of chance. I wish they would bother with the characters' lip movements to help upgrade the graphics quality. Overall, I just wish they would try harder. They have the potential to make a really nice, well-balanced game, but they haven't reached that potential yet.
