This is a super-duper little game...the most entertaining I have ever played, except for "Mushroom Age". It is a very long game and every minute is absolute fun and delight. Great adventure for our little penguin friend, full of excellent mini-games, puzzles, HOGs. The storyline is silly fun, with lots of things to do. A penguin hatches from his egg, separated from the rest of the penguins and is clueless to the world around him. The story is about his learning experiences, his trek to find his homeland, and making friends. He meets lots of quirky characters along the way who help him with his quest and he in turn helps them with special tasks.
The game is overflowing with fun. The HOGs are absolutely brilliant, very interactive. Whoever created it has a superb imagination. I promise you will not be bored or disappointed with this game! NOTE: the hidden items are very cleverly blended into the scene, some are quite small...but you will find them. Just remember to click on EVERYTHING as often as you like, there is no penalty. You will be surprised at where some of the things are hiding!! Fun for everyone!
I recommend this game!

This is a great game without all the blood and gore always associated with vampire stories. The storyline was interesting and easy to follow. Every scene was beautiful, clear and colorful. Lots of things to just enjoy, I love playing slowly so I can take it all in. The black roses were easy to spot, but the morphs in the HOS not as easy. It was a long game, the bonus chapter was excellent. Loved the challenge of all the puzzles, but skipped a couple because they were becoming tedious. The HOS were lengthy, involved several steps to find an item, and lots of interaction in each HOS. The artwork was just beautiful and really made the scenes a feast for my eyes. I enjoyed this game very much. Always waiting and hoping for more vampire games. How about an alien vampire?!
I recommend this game!

I am currently playing this game and absolutely loving it!! I own all the patchworks games but this one is not frustrating when moving the piece to the puzzle. It stays with your cursor instead of dropping "accidently", until you are ready to place it. Everything just plays very smoothly in this one. I love the relaxed mode and all the progress info at the end of each level.
A unique sound lets you know that you made a boo-boo (lol)! You can restart if you like, if you are aiming for those 3 stars. I love the pictures and the materials used for the patches. The puzzles are fantastic and appropriate for any age. Nothing scary here if you let your little ones play. It is so much fun and very relaxing. The music is very different than in most Patchworks and is beautiful IMO.
FYI, "Alice's Patchworks" is another great one. I really like the fairytales and fantasy themed puzzles.
I recommend this game!

This is an EXCELLENT game and the very first one of the 100s I've played that has a superb, appropriate ending. Watch it right through the short credits, doesn't take much time.
The game, in the beginning, was a little tricky (for me) because of a different way to gather and use the inventory items. I couldn't get anywhere, but when the light bulb came on, I went on a great adventure when a dream (?) took me back to 16th century France to solve the mystery of who was conspiring to kill the king. It was a very busy journey, extremely entertaining! The characters were real actors which made the already great graphics even better. I always take my time in a game to enjoy all the detail, color, scenery. No disappointment here!
Great games/puzzles and HOGS. The puzzle at the end is excellent - there are 12 pieces of an amulet to collect throughout the game, they are necessary for the conclusion. There is no map, but the back and forth was not tedious like in so many other games. Was not hard to remember where to find things.
Anyway, I really do think you will enjoy this game a lot. It was beautiful and different. Quality entertainment from start to finish. Remember - It gets off to a slow start, so the trial may give you a wrong impression of the game.
I recommend this game!

I am always so excited when a new jigsaw comes along. This one is very nice, the pictures are so bright and bursting with color! I just wish we could keep our finished puzzles if so desired. Upon completion, they disappear in mere seconds and are gone forever without being able to enjoy our finished "art piece". The best puzzles, for me, are nature, animals, landscapes, oceanic. Posed pictures, food, people are not very interesting so there are many puzzles I just skip. What I like is the ability to change the shape of the pieces and increase the number of pieces for greater challenge. Would love to see these fun puzzles come to us more often.
I recommend this game!

What a wonderful game...I am sure you will love it, too. It has a good storyline that is not weird or confusing. No monsters lurking around every corner. The angry, mean witch is our villain. The graphics are colorful, clear and so beautiful. Every scene was full of interesting things. The map worked just great. The HOs were fantastic and very interactive, the games were a little challenging. I got such a kick out of the sweet little helper named Weepie! Just wait til you hear her! So funny and adorable! The golden bird was unusual in the way that it helped, very nice. I absolutely loved this game, one of the best IMO. It was excellent from start to finish.

This creepy guy takes obsession to a whole new pathetic level. I loved the game. It was very interactive, everything was top notch. Great graphics and color, and interesting things to feast my eyes on along the way. I do wish the cat had more involvement in the story though. The game was excellent and certainly worthy of far more than 5 stars!
With that being said, I am wondering how it can lead to such a weak, abrupt, "sped-up" poor ending. These devs and story writers have proven their talents to be superb! So why can't they give us an ending with more substance and satisfaction?
I absolutely love these "fractured" fairy tales and hope more of them are in the future of Big Fish Games.
I recommend this game!

Nothing negative here, just perfect in my opinion, from beginning to end. This game has it all! Great HO/lite adventure.
It is very different, creative, challenging, fun, humorous. For such a "little" game, it packs a dynamite punch! Fun storyline. Bright, clear, colorful graphics. Great special effects. Likeable characters. HO/lite adventure looking for artifacts while searching for missing grandfather which takes you to many tasks on several islands.
I know many of you frown upon older style graphics for your own various reasons, but ultra new graphics or whatever do not guarantee a good game. IMO you will miss out on a really special little game if you pass on this one.
It has a good length, unless you are a speed player. There are NO voice overs, game modes, time limits or click penalties. The hint system is a little different and there is a clue helper which I never used so don't know when that comes into play. I loved all the little background details and the intricate ways of uncovering the various artifacts. It was like an Indiana Jones quest!
The HOGs are excellent The items are amazingly hidden. Most are very small and I just love that. Easy-to-find is a terrible injustice! (lol) I sometimes used my magnifying glass as last resort (Nope, no guilt attached!).
Easy to read dialogue, try not to skip over. It contains clues, cute humor, mythological facts; I liked it, it enhanced the game for me.
The games and puzzles, by the way, were moderately difficult. Lots of fun.
Whoever created this game did a great job. Thank you! I'm old and need all the fun I can get! God bless!
I recommend this game!

Solid entertainment...it was very creepy and for me it was a wonderful challenge. It was hard to take a break from playing because I was feeling Mary's anguish and just had to unfold this mystery and free her soul ! It was a lengthy game and having played it over a number of days, I lost track of actual hours. It was very atmospheric and the graphics, color, storyline, games, special effects were all stellar! Penumbra even made me personally feel the creepies and sadness of the tragedy...now that's the sign of a great game and great value IMO.
BUT....all good things must come to an end! Right? Not only that....a very unsatisfying, abrupt, stupid ending! How can someone create such a fine game and not have enough imagination to give it an equally fine ending. I believe a good ending is just as important as the story, so I was disappointed.
However, I loved the game and it definitely deserves 5 stars. I highly recommend it and wish we had more excellent SE games. For me, knowing my money is well spent makes my games even more enjoyable.
I recommend this game!

I loved Secret of the Ruby so much. It even had a good, appropriate ending. It was challenging from start to finish. Very interesting storyline, lots of necessary dialogue but easy to read, story related tasks to accomplish, helpful human spirits. There are 4 play modes, interactive map to save you many back and forth trips, a book that keeps your hidden objectives at hand, inventory bar stays in place. You start with some hints and others are placed in scenes thruout the game in the form of rubies. Don't forget to look for them, dark red or brownish red, usually well hidden and I think they may not appear in each scene as I search very intensely. If you run out of rubies the regular hints will kick in, so no need for despair. I liked how it worked, I had 12 hints left at the end. The are 23 skippable games, with few acceptions they were quite the challenge. A couple were beyond my best efforts. Always hate having to skip! Nice surprise when you exit game - click on the gift box in upper right corner. All the games are there, replayable! A nice feature in a standard edition. The games/puzzles were all excellent, as were the HOGs. There are not many HOGs but they were top notch as well. And an item in one of them had a very different way of being discovered (loved it).
I don't think you'll be disappointed with this game. Looking for more challenge? Try Dark Alleys: Penumbra Motel and Resurrection, New Mexico! Bye now! able games
