The Brothers Grimm have assigned the task of revealing the truth behind missing children in the town of Arbourshire; it is up to you to discover the secrets of the Fairy Tale Mystery, before it is too late.
I had a good time playing this game. No, it's not the most intellectually challenging game I've played, but it was relaxing, enjoyable and easy to follow. The story was familiar with a twist, but I found it sufficiently entertaining. I liked the way the devs made the game so that the tools you find are used pretty soon after discovery. I agree with those who complained that the HOS were revisited and often had "card x 4" objects. That doesn't bother me, but it does annoy some people. The HOS were NOT JUNK PILES yet at times, some of the objects were slightly challenging to find. The cutscenes were plain fun, nothing too scary, nothing too tame. The reason I'm giving this game a 4 instead of a 3 is because of the scenic layout. The places I had to visit were so visually interesting that I kept moving quickly because I was curious as to what I'd find in the next scene. I really loved the way the Brothers' Grimm were attempting to reach me to help. That was cool. Also cool was when a letter from them would get through the magic barrier to advance the story. I hate to be repetitive here, but I can't express it any better than by saying it's fun without being too challenging. I'm glad I bought it.
This game is just fun. It won't be the most challenging or intriguing game you've ever played, but you will really enjoy meeting all of the ghosts in this game. The story is unique, but sort of a fantasy (a scientist wants to make cars with souls,) and you get to visit many different scenes. The IHOS are easy but fun (NO JUNK PILES.) The puzzles are all suitable for a beginner, imo. Most of the objects you need to find are used relatively closely to where you find them. The music is benign and blends smoothly with the game neither intruding or boring. The cut scenes were blurry. I don't know if this was by design or accidental,, but the rest of the game is clear and well lit. I was able to complete the game without hints and in one sitting, so I guess it's not too long. Or maybe I was having so much fun with the characters that I moved faster. The "Elvis" and "hippy" characters were my favorites.
I'm not rating this game based on technical specifics because my overall experience with it was a couple of hours of lighthearted fun. In fact, as I played along, I changed my rating from a 3 technically to a 4 for fun. The ring of fire towards the end won me over for sure.
Bottom line: Fun, fast and easy enough for a beginner.
After the opening scene in which the main character is attacked by thousands of spiders which crawl into the window, up her clothes, over her face, head, hands and eventually wrap her up like a fly in their web, I uninstalled.
The first half of this game was really fun. With the exception of the blurry graphics which made finding some hidden objects difficult, I was having a good time. But somewhere about halfway through, the devs decided to make me run ALL OVER TARNATION WITHOUT A MAP, without useful hints (there is nothing to do here) .and without being abe to use the MANY COLLECTED ITEMS. Huh? That's not a good game, that's just exhausting. At one point, I had collected 20 items and none of them were usable and I had no idea where they belonged because they were to be used further (way, way....further) into the game. If you, as a developer, are going to do that to me, well, I'm just not going to like playing your game very much. What's worse, is that some of the HOS ask you to find items which aren't the right words for them. For example, once I was asked to find a comb and I searched for one but I KNEW there weren't any, so I clicked on a brush and voila! that's what the game wanted. JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH. If you weren't ready for an asylum before you play this game, you will be after......
Let me begin by saying that I like a rather difficult game, play on expert mode and I don't mind having to really pay attention or think through puzzles. I normally complete my game without using the hints at all. That said, I began this game with high hopes only to run myself ragged all over the place looking for the next active area. This was the worst game I've ever played regarding this pet peeve; forget the sneakers, you will need a taxi. At first, I liked the story, it was progressing well and I was enjoying the puzzles until I found out that IF YOU MISS SOMETHING you're going to do a lot of running through previous scenes and scanning them with your curser hoping to find an active area. If you think using the HINT button will help you, NOPE, Unless there is an active area in the scene in which you're "standing" all it will say is "there is nothing to do here." In no way does the game send you off in the right direction. You have to hope that you stumble blindly into a scene in which the hint button will actually point to something. If you don't find THE LEAST LITTLE OBJECT, that will keep you from progressing AT ALL until you find it, IF YOU FIND IT. ANNOYING X INFINITY. I went from enjoying the game to hating it before the end. I absolutely do not recommend this game for anyone except a masochist. No kidding.
This is a very pleasant game. I was intrigued by the mirrors (I'm not gonna spoil anything here) and the way the plot moved. The games were easy, the HOS were easy, the story linear and moved quickly. I like the fact that I didn't spend much time running around because the game actually tells you when an area is clear. The voice overs are adequate, the graphics the usual blue tones and the HOS are pertinent to the plot and not junk piles. My only complaint is the lack of music. There were ambient sounds throughout, but not any music, which I missed.
In short, this is a very pleasant game with a unique twist. It's a fun way to spend an afternoon, but don't expect a masterpiece..
A new breed of virus has spread throughout the City of Oxford. You must search the city for a missing girl who holds the key to stopping the global epidemic!
Wow! No other word describes my reaction to this game. From the beginning, I was mesmerized with the story. It's the first game I've played that looked, sounded and felt REAL. It is a scenario that COULD happen and the characters, including mine, reacted in a realistic, human fashion. The IHOS were very clever, with gorgeous graphics and items that related to the plot. The mini games ranged from easy to medium and also related to the plot so that at no time did I feel I had stepped OUT of the plot. Too often in other games, the story comes to a screeching halt when a mini puzzle or HOS comes up because it has no correlation to the story. Not this game!! It is seamless!!! In addition, the music and ambient sounds gave realism to an already realistic game. At no time did I feel lost or confused and I found the answers to movements were logical and linear.. There is minimal running back and forth as the game literally blocks you from non-essential areas. FANTASTIC!! This is the first game that I've played that literally made me question whether I was watching a real newsreel or not. It's that well done. Don't take my word for it, play it yourself. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
I'm not going to say much more than my review title. This game was way too easy. It holds your hand all the way through as if you lack any intelligence whatsoever. The story is tired and executed in a very plodding fashion. The graphics are drab, the music irritating and the mini puzzles are way too easy. The map is useful but not a jump map. Also, I do not like to play games with demons, pentagrams, etc. I find those themes offensive. But beyond all of that, it's just boring. VERY boring.
This game is pleasant, easy and has a familiar story line. The HOS are JUNK PILES, which I hate, and they are revisited at least twice. The graphics are dark, not impressive at all. The story moves along at a fair pace but it's not sufficiently interesting to make the player care if it moves forward or not. This game felt like a chore to me. I wanted to get it over with so I could go do something fun. The mediocrity of this game is perhaps its greatest asset. By that, I mean that it's good for all ages and skill levels. The mini games are easy, if uninspired. In hard mode, there was no map, but that was ok since there wasn't too much back and forthing like in other games. It's a solid game for someone new to the genre. For those of us who have played a few, it's just the same ole, same ole.
I'd actually like to give this game 3.5 because it IS fun. I really enjoyed the intro, the real actors, the music, the atmosphere, and the brightly colored graphics. Since I played on the most difficult mode, the map did not give me indications as to where something needed to be done, but I could jump to wherever I wanted to go. That's very good. I think the reason people are saying that the game was too easy is because the developers kept the running back and forth TO A MINIMUM. When you found an object, you used it relatively close to the area in which it was found. I appreciate that a lot in a game. I hate it when devs make games APPEAR difficult by having us collect items and hang onto them for what seems like forever. All that does is challenge our memory, it's not an indication that the game is smarter. These devs also added some new ideas, such as finding the cassette tapes, which made the story more interesting. As for people saying the red ghost is too bland, I say kudos to the devs for focusing on linear movement rather than gore. Perhaps the ghost could have been a tad more interesting, yes, but I hate to play games with monstrously ugly characters. I also found two of the puzzles on insane mode to be a bit challenging. So much for it being "too easy." IDK maybe I was just having a dumb day ;-)
Bottom line: I think you'll enjoy it and it's safe for kids.
Pros: Live actors 3 levels jump map with indicators for where tasks can be done tells you step by step which task you're working on many interesting predicaments to think your way out of scenes used the entire color palette instead of the usual dull grays and browns in most games just enough HOS which were NOT junk piles Mini games were doable Kid friendly Minimal running back and forth Linear progression of the story Jump map Many interesting places to go Good ending Enjoyably relaxing
Cons HOS were easy Story has been done before Too easy for an expert
