Challenge yourself in the role of the scientist-historian-scholar of ancient civilizations and mystical legends and save your friend from the Demon of Darkness!
I just completed the game and loved every second of it. The graphics are beautiful, sometimes a bit grainy but my middleaged eyes were able to find everything in the HO presentations without any trouble. I love the reverse HO where you place items back into the scene, wish there were more of these games.
During the game, take a good look at the hard work and artistry the developers provided to make the game so gorgeous. Very very nice! It's refreshing to have a different game setting other than the standard haunted castle, dungeon or abandoned mental asylum. Kudos to the developers for using the southeast Asian theme and location.
Gameplay was just fun! There's no map so I sometimes forgot where I needed to use inventory items. I had to use a walkthrough once because the clock scene had a little twist that I didn't pick up on immediately. Minis were generally easy with a couple of much harder ones thrown in. I love a bit of a challenge and for me this game met it without making me want to pull my hair out.
My only complaint is that there are a couple of inventory items I kept for a long time before I was able to use them. It always makes me wonder why reveal them so early on if they won't be used till much later. There's also a couple of items you get that "fool ya" into thinking they can be used in one location but are really to be used elsewhere. Loved it! Anyway, it all works out well.
A gem of a game! Loved every aspect of it. Tons of HOGs, lots of intrigue and plenty of using the old thinking cap. This one is quite a challenge but doesn't make you want to pull your hair out in frustration.
The minis were a lot easier than the HOGs. I love HOs that are very difficult so this was a big plus for me. The objects were very cleverly hidden and fun to hunt for. I enjoyed the evidence wall and hunting for clues which weren't too hard to find. I'm glad there was a map, too, because it helped point me in the direction I needed to go on my scavenger hunt for items and solving the game.
I also have to praise the developer for making the problem-solving perfectly logical. Every item was used in the right way and the only thing I got stuck on was something in the basement but after I'd thought about it, the solution just floated on up out of nowhere, haha.
Without revealing too much, it has a happy ending but also leaves the door open for a sequel game. This one is now one of my favorites and will play it again soon.
I recommend this game!

This is my new favorite game. I loved it so much and wish I'd bought the CE for the bonus. The story is fantastic, it reels you in and the graphics are intensely perfect. Great minis, fun HOGs.
My favorite part was the excellent storyline and the music. It just blew me away. It was cleverly written and the tunes were perfectly matched to the theme. There was a fair amount of going back and forth between locations, moreso near the end, but it was enjoyable.
Not to give too much away but this game made me root for the bad guy, near the end. I can see how they could make a sequel since there are reasons he could return. Plus, his mates in different parts of the ship could also return.
Please tell me these gamemakers have a sequel. This one is just too good a story to be left at the bottom of the ocean in Davy Jones' locker.
It's really hard to write a bad review but I'll attempt it. This game is for fantasy buffs who don't care for challenges. There's way too much dialogue and it's not done well. The girl playing the heroine sounds annoyed as if she's whining about having to do her homework or something. Way too much talking and having to click thru endless screens of tiresome explanations for the "cyan" and the pendant and the pieces of pendant. Yawn.
There are way too many locations, most with only one item to click on and add to inventory. You spend half an hour getting into a locked location only to have one thing to click and it could have been organized better. The game doesn't flow well and it's somewhat chaotic.
The ending was so abrupt that I couldn't believe it. One click and it was over without explanation. What happened to whatshernames parents? Who knows but I won't be buying the sequel because I don't care. Someone dropped the ball on this game and I would not recommend buying it because there are way better games out there.
The only redeeming feature is that some of the HOGs are "puzzles within puzzles" and they were enjoyable but few and far between.
To sum it up: to call this game "lame" would be a compliment.
I really enjoyed this one because of the morphing locations. It was a great challenge going back and forth from current day to ancient Aztec settings. I also loved having to place items in HOS rather than find them. The MP were all pretty easy, which was a first for me :) Thumbs up to the graphic artists for the beautiful designs and colors.
The music could have been better. About half the game had jazzy upbeat music that didn't jive with the ancient feel of the Aztec background. There's plenty of great mystical South American tunes to be found which would have suited the game better.
This game seemed a bit short. I guess it was so much fun I didn't want it to end. I'll wait a few weeks and replay, for sure!
Overall, this was a wickedly great game and well worth $2.99. I can't wait for the next game in this series.
This game is visually stunning. Graphics outstanding. However, it was frustrating on many levels. Hint: throw your logic out the window. Starts out ok but an hour in, you find none of your inventory items work where they should work. You are constantly shortchanged and it's difficult to make sense of items and how to use them. You have to be extremely thorough when looking in a new location and you'll still be pulling your hair out with frustration because the hint tells you to look somewhere not even on the map. It assumes you've already gone to a location when you haven't. In other words, the hints are out of sync.
You'll find you can't complete HOGs unless you have certain inventory items. Good luck finding some of them because they won't appear for quite some time. You constantly feel like you have overwhelming unfinished business during the game. There's way too much going back and forth. I have the SE, should have gotten the CE with its strategy guide. IMO, if I have to use a walkthrough more than 2-3 times, the game is not for me. This game required way more than that.
I had a good laugh at the end when a character is speaking and it's obvious that the English is dubbed over. His lips are moving and out of sync with what you're hearing. Things like that detract from a more polished and professional gaming experience.
I found this game extremely challenging and not in a good way.
I was hooked on this game from the start. It was pleasantly challenging and didn't make me want to pull my hair out because I couldn't figure out the strategy. I liked moving forward and not having to go back to revisit rooms too often. There are a couple of HOGs near the end that are very difficult but if I can do them, anyone can. For the first time, I thoroughly enjoyed the mini-puzzles all the way through. The story was dementedly crazy and fun and the graphics were awesome. Please tell me there's a sequel because I don't want this story and the setup to end!
Loved this game because of the New Orleans theme. It definitely has the feeling of old New Orleans, the swamps, the architecture. Graphics were sensational and the story rocked. Didn't have to use the hint much at all.
I was also hoping for a level of play that involved the swamp family seen in the family portrait hanging in the tree. Their swamp house was part of one scene but the people were never seen.
The voodoo theme was well done and increased the creepy fear factor for me. This is what I love about HOGs and mystery puzzles -- a good story.
My only complaint was that the game could have been longer as it was a lot of fun. Anyway, looking forward to a sequel if the developers are planning one! Thanks!
I like HOGs that have special items to search for within the game. The extra challenge of hunting for the lost souls was terrific. Very good HOG, quick hint refills, great graphics, good music. The other puzzles were challenging and fun but not impossible to figure out. It also has both the creep and fear factor because you don't know what to expect.
