Think the movie “The Ring”. This is a cartoon drawn game, resembles Japanese cartoons, characters with big eyes. Do not be deceived…this is a very engaging game. You are drawn in with a mothers concern of her missing, presumed abducted daughter
• Graphics- as stated, cartoon in nature.
• Music-mysterious, fairly background and unobtrusive, at one point I thought it sounded like the theme to the movie “The Exorcist” (yes, I am the one person who bought the album (remember those?) back in 1973).
• HO-junky, but not outrageously bad, no interaction, just pick and click. No click penalty. There is a child that says (well, disputed in forums), I believe “seek” “find”.
• Puzzles-some familiar, pipes, untangle string. There are a few that are different, and go slooooooow, or you may be in for a good scare!
• Scary…THE BEST that I have played to date! Like I said, think “The Ring”…..just try to go fast in the maze and you will see what I mean!!
• Break out your tennis shoes, you’re gonna need them! Lots of to and fro. Frustrating to the point of disgust. Why can’t I pick up item X when I know I’m gonna need it in a few scenes?
• There are black bars to the left/right…I’m on a 15’ laptop.
Overall, if you love a good scare and are not dead set on current game polish, I recommend. For mature audiences only, not for the faint of heart, contains violence and “scary”. Would make an excellent Halloween special!
I recommend this game!

Pure Adventure, no HO, no sparkles and no hint button…you’re on your own. Music is very Zen like. You teleport to other times in history, to the future and to the moon. In order to achieve this you must learn to mix ingredients, much the same as a laboratory/science class. There is no witchcraft or skeletons, graveyards etc.
You start off in your house with approximately 7 rooms and a backyard. Your house is your “base” and you will be in and out often. Your inventory allows for holding 14 items. There are many items available to pick-up and use. There is no voice overs and limited interaction with other characters.
There are mini games, such as cooking recipes for a king (get it wrong and you lose your head). There are 12 tasks to complete to reach the end of the game. Your journal tells you what the task is and what items you need to accomplish it. On occasion it will tell you where you need to go, but most of the time not.
It is a long playing game, several days at 4-5 hours per day. There is a walkthrough available. I recommend you copy/paste so you can leave it open in the background for reference. There is a learning curve to these games, but once you get the hang of it you can pretty much roll on. On occasion I did need to refer to the WT, I noticed I did not do things in the order they had written, it did to seem to matter, but my logic and the Dev.’s differed on occasion hence, the walkthrough was beneficial.
The ending will make you wonder and consider the possibilities…why green moon? It is an enjoyable game and a nice change from the HO but….I feel a need for something a little easier after this as it does exercise your gray matter!
I recommend this game!

No skeletons, graveyards or witches. Your son is the twin of a child in another world, a world that is dying from a type of plaque. Both children are needed to save the planet. Your child is taken and you go in pursuit of him.
Game play is wonderful, the HOS are interactive with at least one sometimes two interactive items per scene. You will not complete the HOS in one visit; you will use inventory items to assist you in the HOS. Hint button refills fairly quickly. There is no click penalty.
Three (or four) chapters (I forgot to count) with approximately 12 levels per chapter. There is a map that teleports, map did come in handy when I forgot where a particular place I wanted to go to was located. There are several puzzles that are new and interesting. You also have a journal that will record information regarding the back story; it also has a few video clips you can use to review. A long playing game, approx. 8 hours with me skipping one puzzle after spending considerable amount of time on it. I do not rush through my games, preferring to enjoy the scenery, music and investigating every nook and cranny.
Live actors without much acting, they mostly speak. Lip syncing was very bad, so bad it became distracting and the speech did not keep up with the text. So, if you were trying to read along, the text would disappear while the actor was still trying to talk….they really could have done better than this and it would have been a fantastic game.
While the CE has flowers to collect there a no flowers to locate in the SE version, although on 2 instances a flower appeared and my curser would allow me to attempt to pick it up, to no avail. I believe this is possibly a glitch or oversight when changing from CE to SE.
I recommend this game!

In addition to wallpaper (rather nice by the way) you’re given music and video. If you’re not interested in those you’re also given 7 chapters complete with strategy guide, 36 achievements and 27 miniatures to collect. Art work is very well done HO scenes are clear and full, not a total junk pile. I clicked feverishly and never received a penalty. Balance between HO and puzzles seem fairly balanced, perhaps tipping a wee bit to puzzles. Bonus Area: Wallpaper, concept art and music are accessible immediately. Bonus game and video are unlocked upon completion of game.
There is a map that lets you teleport and also indicates where you are, if an area has something to do now, if you are not able to access at this point and if you should return later.
Three modes of play, casual, advanced and hardcore. I tried expert, no sparkles (whee) the hint button seemed to fill up very quickly (bonus if you’re frustrated). Screen options; full and wide, I had both checked and my laptop (15”) was completely filled (wonderful, thank you Dev.’s). The voice over of your “helper” who is also your hint button is extraordinarily great. The infliction is fantastic…all voice over actors could learn from this one! The statues are phenomenal and are interactive; some will help you along the way.
Note: when first signing in and choosing options my curser was jerky. I unclicked custom curser and it moved well. After I played a few minutes I accessed the option screen from the game and reverted back to custom curser and no problems at all.
Storyline is refreshingly different and game play is fun. Enjoy!
I recommend this game!

SE version appears glitch free. Shows tasks button but it is not functioning in the SE version. Music supposed to be spooky, but it reminds me of an old movie (circa 1940-1950) kinda humorous made me smile (can’t remember the name), it sounds so familiar. No map and not so much trekking to and fro. No HOG therefore no sparkles. Visually graphics are similar to Escape from Ravenhaurst (cluttered and astatically, not visually disturbing). Rooms look like you would expect in an abandoned old motel…looks like you would expect a hobo to appear at any minute and build a fire in the middle of the room.
Three options of play casual, expert and hard core. I played expert. The hint button does take a while to recharge and the skip button on puzzles takes a very long time to charge. Puzzles are different, some challenging, a couple frustrating (planet puzzle), hang in there they are do able, just very thought provoking. One puzzle seems to repeat itself, but it starts small and gradually grows more complex, not overly difficult.
Scenes maybe put off some, there are lots of skeletons “hanging around” and ghost galore. Nothing disgusting or scary. If you hate bugs, well there are lots of them. If your dislike games with the occult beware, this has films that give you the impression that’s where they were going.
The ending was somewhat abrupt. Just sort of stopped, but not really sure what I expected…were they supposed to just continue to grandma’s house? Was the professor really who he said he was? Oh well, I was enjoyable for adventure and no HO/sparkles. Got the imagination going and was entertaining.
I recommend this game!

A terrible storm envelopes the town and people disappear (yet there are still people there?).There is a map that does teleport you to available areas (more area's open as you accomplish tasks#. Hint button recharges very quickly. You have a journal that records all necessary information for the tasks you need to complete. There are two options of play casual and challenge mode where hints and sparkles are off.
Yes there are sparkles.
The voice over is very excellent and makes a wonderful storyteller. You can skip the story, I prefer to hear the story because I enjoy a good story based game, however you are not able to just read the text #I read faster than he talks# and click to advance to the next page...you must let him complete speaking, which while I enjoyed the sound of his voice I found annoying I had to wait.
Music is what it is; some people hate the sound in games others don't really care. For those that listen it is what I would refer to as comical dramatic, light hearted.
The best part of the game is actually the HOG; they are so interactive it is like an adventure game. You find an item and have to figure out what to do with it. Sounds easy right? Not so fast...they really put some thought into this and it isn't always what you would expect....not like your typical HOG where you pick up a key to unlock a box...how boring!
For someone who considers herself more an adventure player I was extremely surprised to find myself enjoying this. This could put a whole new spin on HOG if other dev.’s picked up on it I am sure more of us would quit complaining about the HOG in "HO/Adventure" games. Of course, there are still a few items you can just point and click...usually just 2-3 items #in blue)....I can deal with that.
You simply must try this game..demo it...at first I wasn't too sure, but by the 2-3 HOG I was convinced!
I recommend this game!

Excellent story line makes you eager to find out what will happen next. The year is 1830. You have been raised in an orphanage. You are now a governess and having reoccurring dreams of an old mansion and an old oak tree that has a face. A package is delivered to your home with a note from a long lost aunt. You are told of your family’s estate and you go there to investigate. You are a descendant of the wizard Merlin. Your nemesis is Merlin's former student/lover. You are given a time traveling device that is used throughout the story.
There are two options of play, I chose expert and still got sparkles. I’m not sure why you are even given a choice as there seems to be no difference, the hint filled up fairly fast and the puzzles were no more difficult than usual. The HO are truly junk piles. Several times I would click on an item and it would not remove it (like a banana#, I would hit the hint and it would go straight to it. I would click it again and nothing. After several clicks #5-6# it finally removed it. Hint penalty? Not sure what to tell you, I clicked like a maniac and never had one, then out of the blue half way through the game BOOM, I got one, than two so, sometimes yes, sometimes no.
Okay, like I said the story is really interesting and the time travel adds a whole new dimension to the game play, unfortunately it is not done very well #IMHO). I rarely if ever use the strategy guides, however, with this game it was used constantly. You never know when you have to jump to a different time to do something. If you hit the hint it goes to the time device, but which year? There are 5 different years to travel to.
I started off really enjoying this game. Than when the time travel came up it became frustrating not knowing when or where to jump to. Half way through I was just going through the motions, using hints and guide without even trying to figure out what to do. Oh, and the ending …well …“to be continued”.
I don't recommend this game.

This game has it all, lots of things for everyone with loads to do and accomplish: 33 puzzles, 20 HOG’s, 40 achievements to accomplish, collect 10 cards, 20 photos, light 10 lamps, find 6 (I think) cats. 2 play options, casual and expert, both have sparkles, hint button in expert takes longer to charge. Map, shows your location and locations where tasks are pending, no teleport. You have a built in stradegy guide. Music is very background and non-descript. There is a click penalty in HO if you go very fast…stay smooth and rhythmic and you will have no penalties.
The only negative: there is a lot of to and fro and the voice over acting is not great. Strange that the maid starts as an actual person, then goes into drawing while the gardener stays as an actual person throughout. The voice over does not match the lip movement, which makes it awkward to watch.
Storyline is interesting. You play the role of daughter investigating her father’s death and brothers’ disappearance. Length of game play without skipping anything was approx. 5 l/2 hours, bonus another 45-60 minutes. I take my time and enjoy the scenery and hunt down the cards, photos, lights and cats.
CE vs. SE. Believe the ending in SE would be satisfactory conclusion, no let downs or drop off. The CE has so much to offer in the bonus area, with replay ability of puzzles and HO along with the additional play time I think it would be worth the extra if you actually do play just the puzzles and HO. Otherwise, you have all the achievements, cards, photos, lights, cats in the SE that you would probably be satisfied with that and if you must you will eventually be able to find a walkthrough on line.
I believe you get a lot for your buck here. Tends to lean more on the adventure side with 20 HOG in 5 hours, that’s like 4 every hour….my type of HOG (infrequent!). It really lets you get into the story and work on your puzzles without forgetting why you were doing what you were doing, or where to go next.
This is the first game from this dev, and at the quality of the content I hope they can keep it up and don’t backslide (need to work on the lip-sync though). They also provide a “making of” in the bonus section which is entertaining to watch. There really is a lot that went into this game.
I recommend this game!

Exceptionally long playing game, pure adventure no HOG. Classic Van Helsing vs. Dracula storyline. You play the role of Van Helsing. Characters are a bit stiff, however voices are exceptional. Recommend you get a walkthrough as there are tasks that need to be performed that may not always make sense. There are puzzles that range from moderate to difficult, all are do able, sometimes you just need a gentle push in the right direction.
All information is written in Van Helsing’s journal, just be sure he states the information, and says perfect. If he does not state the info, he does not know it and it is not recorded in the journal, so you will not be able to proceed at some point in the game. There is much written text, you will need to read it and be informed as you will need to use the info at various points.
Controls: As with most traditional adventure games the game does not save automatically you will need to manually save yourself before exiting the game. To save hit esc, you will be taken to appropriate screen. To access inventory right click your mouse button.
Game play is smooth and for the most part intuitive. As it is about the classic vampire, it is at times bloody and gross/shocking, so be warned (no spoiler, but brace yourself when you interact with the monks).
I recommend this game!

Looks more like a CE than a SE, has an integrated Strategy Guide. Length of play approx. 5 hours (give/take…forgot to time). Fairly challenging, definitely not easy. Some to & fro, many items to collect and puzzles to solve. Teeters more to the adventure side. Few HO scenes, more puzzles (developer is called Puzzle Lab). HOG’s have no click penalty, while crowded not a junk pile.
Two modes of play, casual and expert. There are no sparkles in expert and hint does take longer to fill. Gorgeous color. There is a map, no teleport; there is a journal that record’s info and has options for video playback (nice touch). And as previously stated a built in stradegy guide. Main character needs to practice her voice acting...its bad.
Looks like a CE, but has a SE ending, my last comments where…”are you serious?” Looks obvious they plan on making a sequel.
I recommend this game!
