(including completion of all mini-games & CE Bonus Chapter)
25 Main Game Scene Locations +9 Bonus Chapter
Difficulty Range: Beginner
Bell has fallen out of Santa's Christmas bag and it will take a Christmas miracle to make the Journey to Francise's house before Christmas morning! But this is Christmas Eve, and Bell is no ordinary doll, and she will find little miracles along her journey from unexpected friends who want nothing more than to see Francis and Bell together on Christmas Morning!
Collectibles & Morphing Objects (CE Version Only):
There are 15 Morphing Christmas Presents,15 Christmas Treats to purchase with 70 Zoom Zone Coins. You can opt to show/hide a collectibles tab on the inventory bar that will open a specific icon when there is a collectible available.
Hidden Object Scenes:
There are 13 Hidden Object Scenes +5 in the CE Bonus Chapter and an alternate Match 3 Game available. There are Interactive Listed Item Finds, Replacing items into the Scene, Silhouetted Shapes, Multiples of Item Finds, and even Spot the Difference Finds, all of which of course is Christmas-themed and they are actually nicely done with a nice variety of objects and colors.
Mini-Games:
There are 20 Mini-Games +6 in the CE Bonus Chapter. You can choose to play them in an Easy or Hard difficulty mode and you can choose which mode to have them start out in the Custom Setting (you can still switch between modes for each individual game) Here are some of my personal favorites:
1-Connect Christmas lights without crossing colors.
2-Fit pieces in a grid without any gaps between pieces.
3-Plot a course on the map for Santa's sleigh while avoiding obstacles.
Bonus Chapter (CE Version Only)
Toymakers, Carlos, and Mrs. Tolevare decide to bury the hatchet and let bygones be bygones but jealousy causes Mrs. Tolevare to cast an Enchantment spell that may ruin their newfound friendship if you aren't able to work your magic or anti-magic? This is a cute Bonus Chapter but it paled in comparison to the fabulous story presented in the main chapter. There are 6 Mini-games and 5 Hidden Object Scenes and you will finish up the collections with 9 Zoom Zone Coins to purchase the final 3 Christmas Treats and discover the last 4 Morphing Presents.
Collector's Edition Extra's: (CE version only)
10 Wallpapers, 10 Concept Art Pictures, 5 Music Soundtracks, 24 Movie Video Cutscenes, 40 Achievements, 18 Replayable Mini-Games, 18 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 15 Morphing Presents, 15 Christmas Treats, 70 Zoom Zone Coins, 4 Main Chapters, +Bonus Chapter, and a Built-In Strategy Guide. I own a ton of Solitaire games by this developer and they do have a couple of features that I absolutely love (I'll get into that in a minute) but there are also a few features that are preventing me from purchasing this colorful Golf type Solitaire game.
For starters, I love that this developer allows you to simply click anywhere on the screen after completing a level, to bypass the theatrics and go straight to the scorecard where you can select Restart or Continue. I also love that they hide several cards behind what seems to be a single card and you never know what piles to go after because it may have just 1 card or it may have 25 cards to have to remove!
This is a Higher/Lower Solitaire game otherwise known as Golf Solitaire. There are 4 categories and each category has a whopping 42 levels each so you do get your money's worth!
There are 6 Card Backs to choose from but there are really only three designs and the rest are color variations of the third design. There are 3 Card Font styles, a Tropical design, a Beach design, and a plain font design, however, in my opinion, they are all quite small as far as fonts go. There are also 5 Awards available in several categories that will eventually allow you to earn 3-stars for each award.
You are tasked with completing level goals that are shown on the bottom left and you will earn money and points by removing cards from the board. If you use the Hint or Undo features, these will not only cost you valuable points AND money, but it will also reset the multiplier index...that's brutal!
You can earn Jokers and Number Specific Wildcards randomly, and that's a good thing because a Joker costs $50,000 and the Wildcards are $25,000 each, that's just as brutal.
There doesn't seem to be any Power-ups, Boosters, or any kind of Obstacle Cards to overcome. Once again, I discovered that on several occasions, multiple deck cards would flip over at the same time, a glitch that I have noticed in all of the solitaire games by this developer! I love Magic Cards Solitaire and I do have several other solitaire games by this developer and they never seem to change much, even the level layouts are the same, so I think I'll pass on this one, it is a pretty game, but it doesn't have a lot of frills. I have created my own forum so you can find all of my series lists there at thewoodsforum.boards.net
I recommend this game!

Completed Game a little over 7.0 Hours
(including completion of all puzzles & Bonus Chapter)
20 Main Game Scene Locations +7 CE Bonus Chapter
Difficulty Range: Beginner-Intermediate
Thank goodness you're alive Master Detective! Now for the bad news, the energy blast you caused collided with key moments in the past that have altered the future, oh snap! Timelines have been altered in four previous case files Charles Dalimar from Ravenhearst, Merideth Huxley from the Broken Hour Richard, Alison, and Ankou from the Black Veil, and our beloved Madame Fate from Fate's Carnaval. You must restore the 4 Elements and correct the twists in each of these cases to set them on a course that will concur with the original outcome.
Let's be honest, this does not meet MCF standards! It is an amazing game, clearly, GrandMa Studios has outdone themselves and poured their heart and souls into this game, it's probably one of the best games they've ever created! But that just isn't enough folks, you know it isn't! Even the last developer of this beloved series wasn't doing it justice towards the end, they were showing signs of becoming burned out after hanging on to the reins for 9 games straight.
Most fans agree that Mystery Case Files is the crème de la crème of HOPA's, some gamers don't play anything but MCF. My point is, this is an honorary series and it has to be held to a higher standard than any other game. It can't just be a good game, a 5-star game, it has to be a blow your socks off, knock you off your computer chair, talk about it for years to come, kind of game! We ALL talk about our favorite Dire Grove, 13th Skull, Madame Fate, Fates Carnaval, and who doesn't love Ravenhearst, Return to Ravenhearst, and Escape From Ravenhearst? Crossfade is a fantastic game but it's not in a MCF league, it's never going to be a 13th Skull-Dire Grove kind of game...and that's what it has to be each and every time, it can't be a hit or miss or the MCF franchise's name will eventually mean nothing!?
Placing simplistic back-to-back puzzles at the end of each chapter isn't fooling true MCF fans, a Rube Goldberg puzzle is a series of clues and tasks that need to be solved in an indirect and overly complicated way. In a true MCF game, you would have to find codes and clues, each code or clue would help to solve a small puzzle which would reward the player with a riddled clue, a code or a part necessary to unlock the next puzzle section until eventually, the player solved the entire door puzzle and entered the next chapter. It was the most satisfying sense of accomplishment, these were the most unique games ever created and it was what set Mystery Case Files apart from all the other games, it instantly branded the franchise...and the absence of them instantly disenfranchised it as well!
Collectibles & Morphing Objects (CE version only)
There are 54 Evidence Pieces, one of which morphs. Because they are small and plain brown cards with a simple opaque outline of a magnifying glass on them (until they go into the evidence room) they actually blend nicely and morph at a nice rate to make them challenging yet not too frustrating to find... eventually. There are also 20 Zoom Zone Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces that allow you to assemble a downloadable picture, some of them are tucked away into dark corners of the zoom zones but many of them are quite large and hard to miss. GrandMa does treat us right with the collectible features, after completing the Main Game you can go into the Extra's menu and click on any of the Evidence or Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces that you may have missed being taken to the scene to search for those collectibles. After completing the Bonus Chapter, those become available as well!
Gadget/Helper:
Master Detective has a high-tech gadget that doesn't even need a new battery after the cave-in, but naturally, it needs a new antenna and it's good to go, not a scratch on it! The Gadget is used for a couple of random things such as communication and location that doesn't require anything other than the push of an accept button. After that, the Gadget gets tucked away on the inventory bar until it starts to glow red. The Gadget is then used 4 times on 4 characters to fix the alternate timelines. Each time it is used you will play 2 mini-games. The first mini-game requires you to replicate the image shown on the bottom portion of the gadget by clicking and dragging columns and rows. The second mini-game is a simplistic, Spot 8 Differences between the two images shown on the gadget. The mini-games are the same every time it is used, they just use different images.
Hidden Object Scenes:
There are only 7 Main Hidden Object Scenes, +2 in the CE Bonus Chapter! Although I'm personally not a fan of most HOP's lately, I think this is a big mistake on Granny's part because most people play these games for the HO's and hate the puzzles and this is a very puzzle-heavy game! To make matters worse for HO fans, they are mostly Interactive List Finds, there is one Silhouetted Shape Find where you drag tile sections to align objects, and one with Listed Multiples of the Same Object Finds, but all the others were simple Listed Item Finds. One of the scenes required using an ouija cursor to find the listed items on a wooden plaque and one of the listed items was a candle but there were 2 candles on the plaque, one of which wasn't acceptable? Another scene in Madame Fates Carnaval seemed like it was going to be cool, I loaded up a rifle to shoot items and I thought I was going to have the opportunity to shoot objects on a moving conveyor belt to mimic a Carnaval arcade game, but I didn't actually use the rifle, my rifle just sat there while I clicked on the objects with a cursor that turned into a hand...what a disappointment and such a lost opportunity!
Mini-Games:
There are a whopping 52 Mini-Games +9 in the CE Bonus Chapter. My biggest complaint is that MCF is special for one reason...the Rube Goldberg Door Puzzles which obviously GrandMa Studios is NOT capable of accomplishing at even a basic level, so if you can't pull this feature off, don't accept the challenge. Instead of unique Rube Goldberg door puzzles, they simply place multiple puzzles back-to-back at the end of every chapter. There is also a repetitive mini-game associated with the Gadget (see above under Gadgets) Below are some of my personal favorites:
1-Enter the code using directional arrows to turn clockwise or counter-clockwise in either 3, 4, or 7 spaces.
2-Move the heart token to the end of the maze while avoiding the badge tokens. The arrow shows the direction of the badge token's next move.
3- Change all dots to the correct color according to the image by dropping balls from the top to hit the dots which will change their color each time they are hit.
4-Connect numbered squares to circle squares. The numbers on a square indicating how many spaces it can fit. Select a number square and then a direction, a path can extend further by crossing another path.
5-Place tiles so they don't repeat in any row or column.
6-Balance the scales with equal amounts.
7-Guess the combination of colored buttons within eight tries. Yellow highlights means the color and placement are correct-blue means the color is correct but the placement is incorrect.
8-Select the prisms to guide each ray of light to its matching hourglass.
Bonus Chapter: (CE version only)
Madame Fate sees all and she has predicted that Alister will return! As Madame Fate scrambles to stop the ritual that will allow the evil Alister Dalimar to return there's one minor detail she didn't see coming, a TRAP! This is an average-length chapter that takes place over 7 Scene Locations with an additional 9 Mini-Games and a measly 2 Hidden Object Scenes. Madame Fate does have a Crystal Ball Gadget that is used 3 times during the Bonus Chapter that involves a mini-game/hidden object scene as well. You will continue collecting the final 14 Evidence Pieces/Cards and the final 8 Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces as well. If you missed any of the collectibles you can return to the scenes to pick them up (the main game collectibles become available after completing the main game and the bonus chapter collectibles become available after completing the bonus chapter)
Collector's Edition Extra's:
10 Wallpapers, 10 Concept Art Pictures, 30 Movie Cutscene Videos, 8 Music Soundtracks ♪, 9 Replayable Mini-Games♙, 9 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 15 Achievements, 54 Evidence Pieces which are Cards with magnifying glasses (1 Morphing 1 Regular) 20 Zoom Zone Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces (used to assemble downloadable picture) 5 Main Chapters (Collapse) +Bonus Chapter (Prediction) and a Built-In Strategy Guide. This is a beautiful game, the crystal tiles are really pretty but when they use light colors, especially white or pale pink, they blended in with the pale background so much that I had a hard time seeing the tiles and found myself making mistakes simply because I didn't count a white crystal! This could be solved by tweaking the color of the background or adding a dark mode perhaps?
As for the Automatic X's that one player mentioned, they do give you an option at the start of the game to opt-out of the auto X feature, otherwise, after filling in all cells correctly, the X's will appear automatically which is the same as an easy mode.
There are 5 Rooms or Categories and each one has 20 Levels of Nonograms. To switch between colors, there is a Color Selector on the right side, but it is pretty small and again, the colors blend into the background so I totally understand why reviewers were having difficulty with the features on this game! It also has a tab that allows you to have the other colors, so you are just working on a ride showing the current color rather than a grid showing all of the crystal mosaic colors added.
You can earn up to 3-stars per level depending on how many mistakes are made. The images are labeled as to what they are because, to be honest, some of the completed images weren't very obvious, they were pretty, but not always obvious!
If the colors weren't so pale, I would have given this game more stars, but I don't like making mistakes, especially when it's because I simply overlooked a white crystal I couldn't really see! My series list can be viewed at thewoodsforum.boards.net

Simple, yet sophisticated, like a good cup of coffee :) When I first started playing this game I thought it was too easy because the words literally popped right out at me. But then they didn't...because they progress from Easy, to Medium, to Hard, and eventually, Impossible!
It's a simple word game, but the object isn't to find random words, the object is to find specific words! You begin with a 3 x 3 grid of letters and you must drag to spell specific words that will fill in the empty word brackets below the grid. When you finish all the levels in the Easy Mode, you move on to the Medium Mode which is a 4 x 4 grid, the Hard Mode is a 5 x 5 grid, the Very Hard Mode is a 7 x 7 grid and the Impossible Mode is an 8 x 8 grid.
There are several categories available (each one has various difficulty modes) as well as a Daily Puzzle so it's a game that seems will keep updating with new additions! So you will have a theme of words that you will be searching for, if you are in the Christmas category, you know you will be searching for words that have to do with Christmas, and not some random word, such as, car seat.
❅Christmas
❅Animals
❅Technology
❅Monsters
❅Art
❅Science
❅Food
❅Family
❅Sports
❅Bundle
It's not as easy as it sounds because you aren't searching for random words, you are searching for specific words! I will admit, I had to use the Hint feature a couple of times! There are two different types of hints, a Letter Hint that fills in the first letter of a random word at the bottom of the board so at least you have a starting point, and the other is a Word Hint that gives you a hint about the word you are searching for.
You earn 1 Hint for every Objective completed and 1 Word Hint for every 3 Objectives completed. There are 12 Objectives or goals to complete which are basically awards shown as Christmas Stamps. When you complete an Objective, a little present pops down from the top of the screen and when you click on it, you are awarded either a Letter Hint or a Word Hint.
The only feature I'd like to have seen added would have been a "Freeplay" section where you could search for random words, to try to find as many words as possible or to have to meet objectives such as finding a 3-letter word, a four-letter word, a five-letter word, a six-letter word, etc. Maybe that's a possibility with the Daily Game?
Bottom line is, we rarely get Word Games, I love Word Games and I love this Indie developer, so I will whole-heartedly support him, it's a yes to the game purchase for me! Come visit us at thewoodsforum.boards.net
I recommend this game!

Any other day of the year most people would take one look at this game and think it's the cheesiest game they've ever played and they'd scramble for the exit tab. But it's Christmas and our attitudes change, cheesy is exactly what we want, and Elephant Games has the ability to create the perfect graphics to get everyone...including the Grinch, into the Christmas Spirit!
Helper/Gadget
A Magical Snowglobe allows Inga's mother to communicate with her and helps guide the two of them towards a Christmas miracle.
Morphing Objects/Collectibles: (CE version only)
There are 26 Morphing Presents that morph at a decent speed and for a change aren't the size of baby elephants!! There are 48 Zoom Zone Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces which allows you to assemble four-12 piece Jigsaw Puzzles (3 in the Main Chapters and 1 in the Bonus Chapter) There are also 12 Collectible Christmas Mascots.
Hidden Object Scenes:
There are only 12 Hidden Object Scenes +7 in the CE Bonus Chapter. What I am noticing from this developer in the last few games is a marked improvement in the Hidden Object Scenes! The objects are smaller, they are clearly making an attempt to blend the objects into the scenery and choosing objects that will blend into the scene rather than stick out like a sore thumb...when developers try to improve...I always notice! There are Interactive List Finds, Silhouetted Shape Finds, Matching Pairs, Matching Related Objects, Keywords in Sentence Finds, Find & Replace, and of course, they are all filled with Christmas spirit!. There are no alternate games available.
Mini-Games:
There are 15 Mini-Games +6 in the CE Bonus Chapter. Most of the mini-games are the usual Elephant Games puzzles all dressed up for Christmas. They range from easy-breezy to medium-difficult, but they are just kind of whimsical and light-hearted to get you in the Christmas spirit :) Here are a few of my personal favorites:
1-Untangle Santa Ropes.
2-Match partial snowflakes.
3-Connect identical colored token connectors to form a line.
Bonus Chapter (Collector's Edition version only)
Help save the kittens of Catstown when foul play is running rampant and these poor kittens are losing more than their mittens, they are receiving fake presents! This is a decent story with a slightly above average-length spanning over 8 Scene Locations with 6 Mini-Games and 7 Hidden Object Scenes. You will search for the remaining 8 Morphing Presents, 3 Mascots, and 12 Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces which allows you to complete the final Jigsaw Puzzle.

The colors are pretty and of course, the puzzles are Christmas-themed with a nice selection of Holiday music. The puzzles during the demo portion seem to be geared more towards the Zen scale than the Brain-alert scale, which is perfectly fine, I believe there's a need for both types depending on what type of day you are having. Once again, I guess I should say for the 44th time in six years, the Penguin family has a dilemma on their hands, er, flippers? Mrs. Pemrose is coming to town and the Penguins need to tidy up their Winter Cottage before her arrival...sounds so Christmassy???
I know I'm beginning to sound like a broken record here, but there's not a lot of change going on within this record-breaking series number (how many games have 44 games in the same series?) For a while, they were surprising us with an occasional new feature but now we are getting a Fantasy Mosaic game every 2 months but they are all the same now. Even I was beginning to wonder if it was possible to offer new features in a Mosaic game, but Daydream Mosaic and Detective Agency Mosaics proves that it can be done! Heck, at this point, I could simply go back to the beginning of the series and replay the games I've already purchased and it would be like playing a brand new series
The only new features that have been added over the past 42 games, besides upgrading the color graphics, is a multi-color feature (added in game # 4) a Sun power-up (added on game #6) the addition of earning/deducting stars for using hints (on game # 15) two additional color bubbles offering 6 colors vs 4 (on game # 16) an Eye feature to view the background w/out the grid (on game # 18) an interactive garden feature (on game # 21) locked colors (on game # 27) different tile choices (on game # 28) an interactive workshop w/ mini-games (on game # 33) and Zen mode (on game # 34) 10 games later and not a single new feature OR story has been added, they still haven't figured out how to save your progress once you start a game, if you decide to exit before you complete the puzzle, you'll have to start all over, even new developers or developers new to this genre offer this feature so it can't be that diffucult to program?
The Zen Mode has returned for those who prefer to solve the griddlers without all the hand/flipper holding. In Zen Mode, the numbers aren't crossed off but Mistakes aren't counted against you either, because chances are, you'll have to edit some of the cells as you switch between colors. You can delete filled-in or crossed-off cells by right-clicking the cell in Zen Mode, and you'll know you have completed a particular color correctly because a checkmark will appear on the color bubble.
You can play in a Casual Mode which crosses off the cells one by one, or the Advanced Mode, which only crosses off the remaining cells once the entire row and column have been filled in. You will earn a Gold trophy if you make no mistakes, a Silver trophy if you make one mistake, and a Bronze trophy if you make two mistakes. You will also earn up to three gold Stars if you don't use any hints, one star is deducted each time you use a hint. Therefore, it is possible to make a mistake or two but still earn 3 stars as long as you don't use any available hints.
There are 20 locations, and each location has 5 Griddlers and an additional mini-game. You can choose from 7 different tile sets, ranging in color vibrancy, and styles. Locked Colors can be disabled in the Settings menu, otherwise, some of the colors are locked and unavailable until you uncover color-specific keys that are hidden beneath some of the filled-in cells The Eye feature allows you to hide the grid to get a look at the puzzle without all the grid lines, and there is a reset icon that makes it much easier to restart the level if you make a mistake.
There are groups of numbers located on each column and row of the grid, each group of numbers must be separated by at least one blank or crossed off cell. Sometimes it's easier to cross-off cells that can't possibly contain a filled-in cell, which will reduce the number of cells and narrow the playing field down a bit, when you get stuck, you can switch colors and work back and forth until it's solved.
Some of the cells contain bonuses such as extra hints, extra mistakes allowed, or an extra pickax which allows you to choose which cell you want a hint on, and some cells contain keys to unlock colors (unless you disable this feature in settings) There is a Sun icon as well that when fully charged, will give you a mega-hint, filling in or crossing off a 3x3 area of your choice. I can't help it, no matter how cheesy or repetitive these games are, I am delighted when they arrive. I feel like a kid again on Christmas morning, waking up to discover Santa has visited during the night while they were sleeping! I don't even bother with the demo, what's the point? I know it's just an extra step, I know beyond a shadow of a Reindeer doubt that I am going to want to keep playing the game, this is my Christmas Present to myself! (and I know it's a game that my grandkids enjoy too :) For me, the HOPA Christmas games on BF simply means the Christmas season is ALMOST here, but when Christmas Wonderland arrives, so has Christmas!

You can play in Casual, Challenge, or Extreme difficulty mode, which is a new Timed Mode requiring you to find all Golden Christmas Trees and Lost & Found items to earn all three stars. There are 18 Achievements to earn and 16 Christmas Presents to purchase, and you can see the presents you've purchased by clicking on the Christmas Presents Display Tab on the Top of the screen, opposite of the Shopping Cart Icon where they are purchased,
Each Hidden Object scene has about 29 Listed Items to find, items in Red are hidden in or behind something, and items in Blue require a task such as dragging Roof Tiles to help the elves build the new workshop. There are usually two Zoom Zone Areas in each scene, the zoom zones (indicated by twinkling stars) may come and go, depending on whether or not the items are available on your list yet.
You will earn a Bronze Star if you complete the HO scene, a Silver Star if you complete the HO scene and find all Golden Christmas Trees OR all Lost & Found Items, and a Gold Star for completing the HO scene and finding all Golden Christmas Trees and Lost and Found Items. When all of the Golden Trees have been found, the doors will close on the Icon on the bottom left by the Inventory Bar. The Lost and Found Items are shown as Silhouetted Shapes within the Snowglobe (next to the Golden Christmas Tree Icon) When all Lost and Found items have been found, Santa on his Sleigh will appear to remind you that all items have been found. Remember, you will not earn all 3-stars if you don't find all 3 lost & found items and all golden Christmas Trees in each scene. Some of the Scenes have a Photo Opportunity Icon located somewhere within the scene. Once you find the icon you can click on it to add the photo to your Photo Album which can be visited by clicking the Camera Icon located next to the trophy icon on the bottom left of the screen.
My favorite part of the HO games by this developer is the puzzles! Yes, they are the same puzzles, yes, they are super easy, but they are still fun and I still feel like a kid on Christmas morning...so don't judge lol! After each Hidden Object Scene, you'll solve a simplistic mini-game or puzzle such as placing those infamous puzzle pieces into Springfield's map, Rotating Square Puzzle Tiles, Jigsaw Puzzles, Word Search, Matching Pairs, or Spot the Difference.

I haven't been reviewing a lot of games lately because felix at bf has been allowing developers to write reviews about their own games which is against their own guideline rules, and now they are giving another reviewer their games weeks in advance which they then distribute to other members of a particular forum if they choose to give them to those people.
This game's download link was passed out for people to download nearly two weeks ago! Those famous Christmas HOPA's we waited so eagerly for?...other people had access to the game days, even a week before you and I because we have to wait until Big Fish releases them to us pheasants? Do you think that's fair? Is your $6.99 membership worth less than theirs?
I recommend this game!

Completed Game approximately 6.0 hours
(including completion of all mini-games & CE Bonus Chapter)
25 Main Game Scene Locations +10 Bonus Chapter
Difficulty Range: Beginner
Yes, the game is a significant improvement over the last Hidden Expedition game which was the first attempt at the series by this developer since Eipix left the H.E.L.P. Expedition organization. Yes, the colors are beautiful and they don't involve the over-abundance of purple, green, and blue hues which is the usual Domini M.O. Yes, the developer has done a great job...of fooling the player during the 90-minute demo into thinking this game is different, that this game, is more in tune with the original Hidden Expedition games from the previous developer with all the well-loved characters we grew to love, like Sam, in his green plaid shirt, who always managed to get captured by the bad guys while I ran around doing all the real work! Yes, it has collectibles, yes it has a bunch of chapters, and the CE version did have all the usual CE bling.
No, it is not the best game of the year as claimed by our usual five-starer, it's just a pretty game. No, it doesn't have the most interesting story ever told, it's just a pretty game that takes place on the beautiful island of Forgotten Cloud in New Zealand, complete with volcanic eruptions, ancient Maori legends, exotic wildlife, and lush foliage. No, it's not a classic, if you look past the pretty, you'll realize that the gameplay is the same as all other Domini games, and after the demo, you will find the repetitiveness and the unimaginative task syndrome returning with a vengeance...as does the boredom. Domini's failure to broaden their fan-base to those of us who know with certainty what will be required of newly found inventory items such as corks, gloves, fishing poles, glass shards, coins, tape-powder-brush, planks, magnets, etc. is being directly reflected on their average ratings lately, it's a shame they don't apply the credible reviews to their games. I'm not saying that every game should be geared towards expert gamers, but every game should certainly not be geared toward the easy-breezy either, and the reviewers lately all seem to be on the same page,
THIS is exactly why the Collector's Edition version only received a 2.6 average rating out of a whopping 37 reviews!! Pretty just isn't enough, people are getting tired of doing the same thing over and over Domini! It wasn't noticeable when you released a game a month, but when you have a game a week, it's hard NOT to notice because you get bored when you remember doing that exact pattern of tasks the week before, the chapter before, the scene before!
I'd also like to point out that before I started the game, I checked out all the CE features for my review, such as finding out how many Achievements can be earned. There are 41 Achievements, but incredibly, I had already earned the achievement for solving 5 Mini-games without reading the information before I had even decided how I would play the game?
Gadgets/Helper:
There are no Gadgets or Helpers. If this were a true Hidden Expedition game it would have a good old-fashioned H.E.L.P box for the fact cards but those fact cards are more technologically advanced now and they are done automatically.
Collectibles & Morphing Objects (CE Version Only):
There are 15 Fact Cards with fun facts about New Zealand, 15 Tattoos, and 15 Souvenirs. You can opt to show/hide a collectibles tab on the inventory bar that will open a specific icon when there is a collectible available.
Hidden Object Scenes:
There are 13 Hidden Object Scenes +5 in the CE Bonus Chapter and an alternate Match 3 Game available, which btw, doesn't allow you to make consecutive matches quickly. (you have to wait for all tiles to stop falling before you can make the next match which makes the game seem sooo slooowww) There are Interactive Listed Item Finds, Replacing items into the Scene, Silhouetted Shapes, Multiples of Item Finds, Items Related, or Keywords in Sentence Finds, Matching Shells, and several scenes that require scrolling through multiple scenes.
Mini-Games:
There are 17 Mini-Games +7 in the CE Bonus Chapter. You can choose to play them in an Easy or Hard difficulty mode and you can choose which mode to have them start out in the Custom Setting (you can still switch between modes for each individual game)
Bonus Chapter (CE Version Only)
It's up to the H.E.L.P team to stop a heist of the Maori Tablet on it's way to the Hawaiian Museum. This is a typical stretched out Bonus Chapter with a lot of cliche tasks and a ton of back and forth unnecessary repetitiveness, so much so that I just couldn't force myself to complete the chapter.
Collector's Edition Extra's: (CE version only)
13 Wallpapers, 10 Concept Art Pictures, 5 Music Soundtracks, 31 Movie Video Cutscenes, 41 Achievements, 18 Replayable Mini-Games, 18 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 15 Fact Cards,15 Tattoos, 15 Souvenirs, a gazillion Missing Notes, 8 Main Chapters, +Bonus Chapter, and a Built-In Strategy Guide.
I have moved my Series List to my new forum at https://thewoodsforum.boards.net/
I don't recommend this game.
