When it comes to a "painting" game, images are everything and if the images aren't appealing, nothing else matters at that point. There are a ton of pictures where there is just a single image slapped in the middle that doesn't allow you to paint the background. It's a painting game, why on Earth would you not take advantage of the entire scene? There are 64 images available but you are forced to finish the first level before moving on to the next. I still don't understand this concept, why do I have to finish one level before proceeding? I'm sure everyone would like the ability to pick and choose from any level, at the very least, allow us to see all of the available images even if we can't paint them because they are still locked! This scenario only makes me suspicious that the rest of the images are worse. Each area has a number and you simply chose the corresponding color bubble from the palette (also numbered) on the right side. There is a Slider Bar that allows you to zoom in & out (as well as a "fit" tab) you can also move the entire page around by right-clicking and dragging. I love the textures available in the Modern Art series and this would be a 5-star game if they would simply add some must-have features and better image selections. This developer is truly struggling with pictures and interesting color choices so it would be wise to seek out an artist or two for some better insight. Don't let the first couple of levels fool you into thinking this is a solitaire game where you will be able to remove all of the cards from the board, this just isn't the case! This developer is pretty sneaky in the demo, they give you a ton of deck cards in the first few levels which makes it really easy to remove most, if not all of the cards on the board. With each new level, the deck cards dwindle to a bare minimum, and by the time you roll around to level 7 you begin to realize that you will have serious issues removing all of the special Gold Cards much less being able to remove all of the cards.
Nearly every level is set up in a manner that makes it 100% impossible to remove all of the cards because at least one of the final Gold Cards is located on top of the heap of remaining cards. Once you remove the final Gold Card, it's game over, even if 50+ cards were still on the board. I get that some people enjoy this type of Solitaire feature, but most solitaire fans want to be able to remove all of the cards. Why can't this developer add a feature that allows us to continue playing until all cards have been removed? I'm not asking for the game to have a complete overhaul, I'm simply asking that they ADD a small option that gives the player a choice to continue playing!
Of course, this developer will never change or tweak the features in any of their games because that would require them to re-code a new program and everyone knows that this developer doesn't actually make new games, they simply copy & paste the same solitaire game program onto different backgrounds and give it a new title! (Titles that deceive the player into thinking the game has a plot?)
Once again, there are 9 Card Graphic Themes to choose from and 3 Font sizes (traditional, themed, and large font) The music isn't bad, but yes, it too is the same, not to mention that at times the music pauses and you're left with an awkward silence.
As usual, the game begins with a tutorial in Newbie Mode which allows you to replay any level. After completing the tutorial or opting out by clicking on the tutorial X, you can choose the Professional Mode which only allows you to play the entire 10 level pack. Same Features, Nothing changed here either?!
This is a Higher/Lower style Solitaire game (of course it is) where the only goal is to remove all of the Gold Cards. Once the gold cards have been collected, you will earn the maximum amount of points and the game ends even if other regular cards remain. If you remove all gold cards you'll get a perfect score and the points of that level are added to the next level similar to bowling scores. You must earn the required amount of points to unlock the next location and there are 20 Locations with 10 levels per location. Yup, still the same feature?!
When you remove cards with a flower, you will receive either +499 points, a Joker, a Shuffle, or Mulligan (undo) and you can buy Jokers, Shuffles, and Mulligans within the Shop with the points you have earned, at a ridiculous price point of 2500-8000-5000 apiece. Lucky us, they decided to add several more bonus cards per level which translates to an agonizing game interruption because the game freezes time to show you what you have just won. Same ole-same ole feature?!
Once again, this game states that there are Achievements to earn, but I've yet to earn one, but then again, I never buy them, therefore, I never play further than the demo because I have no desire to waste money on a game that has nothing new to offer, and never gives me the option to continue playing after removing all Gold Cards. I refuse to even use a PCC. The only reason I play the demo is that I hold on to the dream that one day they will add an option to remove all cards...one could say my dreams are unrealistic, or perhaps that it's time to lower my Solitaire Standards?
When and if they decide to change something other than the title, I may consider buying them, but only if they make an option that allows me to remove all of the cards, not just the Gold Cards. Until they bother to change something, anything...I will continue giving them a single star, I'd give them ZERO stars if I could! Come join me on my new forum thewoodsforum.boards.net

Gadgets/Helper: Technically, there is a gadget that is used a few times to capture ghostly apparatuses but it doesn't require completing a Hidden Object Scene or repetitive Mini-game. In the past, Rick Rogers' tattoo was a gadget but someone from Elephant games must have sent out a survey asking if we wanted to remove all the beloved characters we've come to adore from all of their series games (like poor little Elf from Mystery Trackers and yes, even Rick Rogers from Paranormal Files) Then they decided to replace them with a team of teenage trainee sidekicks because both series now have that exact same scenario? Last I checked, the targeted audience was 40+ and I'm almost certain a younger crowd wouldn't be drawn into the market just because they added a bunch of wanna-be investigators that the player couldn't possibly make a connection with from game to game. Everyone knows who Agent Elf the Mystery Trackers furry sidekick is but I doubt anyone will ever remember, or care who Mia, Daemon, Issac, or that other guy's name is (see, I've already forgotten) halfway through this game much less 6 games from now??
Audio/Visuals: I've always loved the graphics in Elephant Games even though they took a drastic turn a few years ago. They are still very realistic but they lost that special vibe of their original games. Hardly anyone could match the look and feel of an abandoned town, creepy manor, or the infamous Fate's Carnival. Unfortunately, those days are gone and we HOPA fans have learned to "settle" for whatever we get because we don't get much nowadays do we?
This genre isn't dead folks, the developers got lazy so we stopped buying them (and stopped giving them 5-star reviews) because the gameplay is lame nowadays. I guarantee you that IF a new developer came along and decided to pour their heart and soul into a HOPA game with a retro-vibe like they were in the past, this site would probably crash from a massive rush of downloads by fans yearning for games like they used to be!
We want games that don't limit the player's travel after 1 or 2 scenes (think Beyond the Invisible or Dire Grove where we meandered through 7, 8, 9 scenes, none of which were locked, trying to remember where we saw this or that, and even how to get to that location because so many scenes were still open!)
We want to find clues subtly, and then we want to have to memorize them or have them put in a journal that we may have to reference at a much later point in the game versus having the code slapped on a sticky note 2 seconds later which conveniently appears exactly when we need it!
We want tasks that we have to put our thinking caps on to figure out solutions or how to resolve the problem versus using a coin as a screwdriver, or knowing we'll need nails and a "heavy object" as a hammer, a shovel to unbury a key inventory item (usually a key lol) and we certainly don't want to encounter another swarm of angry bees, pesky ants, or animals refusing to give up the goods until we feed them, much less a cement statue that moves its limbs to reveal an emblem or inlay piece after we adorn it with it's missing jewelry...keyword "cement" as in the statue was created by pouring cement into a mold which hardens to that exact form.
Most of all, we want Morphing Objects that are challenging to spot simply because it morphs slowly, just like they were in older games (games made from 2012-2016) Back in the day, morphing objects weren't just "clickables" like they are now, they were items that weren't obvious, such as window panes, bricks, and even specific features within a photo or painting which made them really hard to spot. Morphing Objects are supposed to be an ADDED challenge, not just something you spot the second you walk into the scene because it's the size of an automobile***Show of hands***how many of you guys used to scour the internet, desperately searching for games that had Morphing Objects after you discovered them in a game way back in the day and loved the feature so much that you just had to find other games with morphs?... I know I did!
Collectibles & Morphing Objects (CE Version Only): Speaking of Morphs, Elephant Games has ditched the morphing objects yet again! This has always been a staple feature that fans have counted on since the beginning of time, Elephant Games has ALWAYS offered morphs in all of their games. I have complained about the lack of effort they have been putting towards this feature lately, but if they really cared about us they would improve this feature (as they are more than capable of) rather than abandon it! To me, this proves that they could care less about their reputation and will continue to offer less and less with every game. They will do just enough to get by and make a few bucks rather than pour their heart and soul into a game created with passion and pride! The only CE feature this game has going for it is with the Collectible Eyes that are located in every scene because they are small and can be challenging to spot! There are the usual 12 Character Statues but they are always laying in the middle of a room and hard to miss.
Hidden Object Scenes: There are 22 Hidden Object Scenes +6 in the CE Bonus Chapter which includes several smaller Zoom Zone HO scenes where you are tasked with finding 6 objects. There are no alternate games available. The Hidden Object Scenes vary with Listed Item Finds, Keywords in Sentence Finds, Silhouetted Shape Finds, Matching Pair Finds, and Descriptive Riddle Finds. Most of the zoom zone HO's require you to pick items from the ribbon and place them correctly into the scene. Once again, the objects were super easy to spot because the graphics department hasn't seemed to master the art of blending objects into the scenery yet after all these years.
Mini-Games: There are 19 Mini-Games +5 in the CE Bonus Chapter. Most of the games were fairly decent but there were also several really lame games that were downright annoying. There was one game in particular that made no sense, you had to use directional arrows to navigate a road map by following the directions. The problem was that it would tell you to take the 3rd road on the right but the 3rd road was off the screen and the 2nd road was actually the correct turn???
Bonus Chapter (CE Version Only) Rachael seems to be the star of this entire game as the Bonus Chapter continues with a trip back to the Worlds of Mysteries mansion to deal with some unfinished ghostly matters. There are 5 additional Mini-Games and 6 Hidden Object Scenes, and you will continue your search for the final 7 Collectible Eyes and 3 Character Statues to complete your own ghostly manor.
Collector's Edition Extra's: (CE version only) 5 Wallpapers, 1 Screensaver (when all Eyes have been collected) 5 Music Soundtracks, 21 Achievements, 12 Replayable Mini-Games, 13 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 22 Hidden Eyes, 12 Character Statues, 4 Main Chapters, +Bonus Chapter, and a Built-In Strategy Guide. Just when you've hit the lowest rung on the ladder, the bottom of the barrel, the absolute lowest point in your life where all hope is lost, along comes a Genie to grant your wishes. This ain't no Disney Genie, he's ruthless, intimidating, and deceitful as he tricks the vulnerable into exchanging a year of their life for What Wishes May Come...always read the fine print!
Audio/Visuals: Elephant Games has always had the most amazing graphics, hands-down...they are still crystal clear in What Wishes May Come but they don't hold a candle to how they were back in the day. Don't believe me, download one of their original games, sit back and say WOW! I can't say the same for the audio because most of their games have weird audio gaps where things go radio silent but in an obvious awkward way.
Gadgets/Helper: Technically, the genie is a Gadget. His lamp is only used a handful of times but there are no tasks or repetitive games involved, he just simply appears to wreak havoc.
Collectibles & Morphing Objects (CE Version Only): Elephant Games used to have the most amazing morphing objects back in the day. Then Elephant Games took a drastic change graphics-wise and the morphs became so large and obvious that morphing objects became nothing more than clickables. During this same timeframe, this developer seemed to lose interest in creating games of the same standard. They chose to stop designing games that required the player to figure out how to solve the task at hand. Those tasks were replaced with nothing more than emblem fittings at every door, drawer, closet, and mailbox...no thought required for either party! Now E-Games has chosen to abandon Morphing Objects altogether...don't even get me started on the fact that they ditched Elf in the MT series!! There are 12 boring zoom zone collectible cards and the usual 48 zoom zone jigsaw puzzle pieces that make 4 screensavers.
Hidden Object Scenes: There are 16 Hidden Object Scenes +5 in the CE Bonus Chapter with no alternate games available. The Hidden Object Scenes vary with Listed Item Finds, Keywords in Sentence Finds, Silhouetted Shape Finds, Finding 12 Flowers, Combination Finds hidden behind objects (? + ? = Cufflink) Finding & Replacing Items. The objects were super easy to spot because Elephant Games graphics department hasn't seemed to master the art of blending after all these years. On a good note, some of the scenes themselves were unique such as finding objects interwoven on several dreamcatchers, on the Genie's back, or located on family portraits.
Mini-Games: There are 16 Mini-Games +5 in the CE Bonus Chapter. I didn't encounter any new puzzles, they were all revamped mini-games you've solved a hundred times, such as dragging chips along a path using directional arrows, connecting all gems without overlapping paths, swapping triangular sections to complete the photos, restoring a painting using directional arrows along the edges to scroll through different square sections, clicking on scarabs to adjust the direction of lines to match the blueprint shown, moving tokens along tracks to their matching slots, dragging chains until the snake charms align with the tabs on the left side (1 affects others) There was only one mini-game I really enjoyed where you played a card game with a fortune-teller trying to earn more Hourglass cards by matching 4 identical cards before the fortune-teller.
Bonus Chapter (CE Version Only) Sarah and Robert are paranormal investigators that find themselves in a pickle when Robert makes a wish to have the roar of a lion and the speed of a snake. Anyone can see that combining these two creatures can't be good and now Sarah has to perform a ritual to save her beloved Chimera, a.k.a Robert There are 5 additional Mini-Games and 5 Hidden Object Scenes, (+1 zoom zone HO) and you will continue your search for the final 3 Collectible Cards and 12 Zoom Zone Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces which allows you to complete the final 12 piece Jigsaw Puzzle Screensaver.
Collector's Edition Extra's: (CE version only) 5 extremely uninteresting Wallpapers, 5 Music Soundtracks, 22 Achievements, 14 Replayable Mini-Games, 13 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 48 Zoom Zone & Scene Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces, 4 Screensavers (four 12 piece jigsaws) 12 Collectible Inspirational Cards, an Expedition Room (return to scenes to search for missed Cards and/or Puzzle pieces) a Secret Room (Timed-Progressive HOG) 3 Main Chapters, +Bonus Chapter, and a Built-In Strategy Guide. There's no question that this is a blatant knockoff of Vacation Adventures. I get that a developer would want to recreate that same "spark" but you have to have a "spark" of imagination of your own added to the mix otherwise you are just copycatting...can they do that?
The game mechanics are identical to Vacation Adventures without a Timer Option, find 12 Listed Items, items in "pink" (not red lol) are hidden in or behind objects, items listed in blue are objects that require a task such as lighting birthday candles. There are even Zoom Zones with the same Sparkling Stars as VA! Each scene has 3 trash items that fill up a recycle bin, each scene has silhouetted shape items to find, and each scene has the company's mascot Raccoon to find for bonus points. Speaking of Points...what's the Point? There's nothing to buy so why do I need them?
Just like in VA, you earn a Red Star for completing the location, a Blue Star for finding all Silhouettes, and a Yellow Star for finding all recycle Items. They have a Hint Feature and a Super Hint (not mega of course that would really be a knockoff lol) which shows all available items.
After playing a Hidden Object Scene or two you will play a mini-game such as "Connecting Spaghetti Noodles" from one end of the table to the other or placing items into suitcase sections so that when you press play and the suitcase sections all fold together no item overlaps.
Don't get me wrong, this is a decent HOG, I just don't like it when developers replicate someone else's successful game series. It's okay to have similar features but this one crosses the line between similar and a blatant knockoff. Join us for tons of fun at my new forum thewoodsforum.boards.net

To be fair I'm not normally a fan of Mahjong but I really enjoyed the first game in this series. This edition however was lacking the extraordinary features of its predecessor which stood out in a crowd.
There are 7 temples with 7 Mahjong variants (Traditional-Match-Slide-Cube-Triple Layers-Numbers-River) A Key must be uncovered during one variant before another temple can be unlocked. You can earn up to three gold stars and I have to warn you that the goal isn't to remove the gold tiles as quickly as possible, you will have to remove all other tiles before removing the gold tile(s) or you will not fill the star meter.
The First Temple has a Traditional Mahjong variant where you simply match tiles and remove the 2 gold tiles when finished.
The second Temple has a Match Mahjong variant where you match tiles on the board with those shown in the frame at the bottom. You can remove more than one tile if there are multiples as well.
The third Temple has a Slide Mode where the goal is to slide free Mahjong tiles until they bump into their matching tile to eliminate them. Now this may sound easy, but you will have to use other tiles as bumpers in order to get the tiles into position, and the 3D layers of some layouts will cause the tile to drop down instead of sliding.
There's also a Rivers Mode, a Cube mode, a Numbers Mode, and a Triple Mode variant available. Come join me at my new forum at thewoodsforum.boards.net

I'm not gonna lie, I've never been a fan of the Walker family Mosaic games. I hated the cartoon sloth and the boring idea of decorating the Walker living room with ridiculous souvenirs on a shelf. I hated the bouncy, glittery tiles that reminded me of gummy bears, I didn't enjoy the constant bells and whistles of all the hoopla every time I filled in a cell, much less completing a group of cells. I don't play Mosaic games to get wound up, I play them to relax and wind down, so I was thrilled when Jet Dogs decided to ditch MOST of the hoopla...but for the life of me, I just don't understand why they still feel the need to include all the flashy tiles when you complete a group? Why can't you include an option to shut that off as well for those of us who don't enjoy seizures?
There are 12 different Tile Options like legos, fabric, and lunar, one of my favorites looks like dew drops. If that isn't impressive, there's also 12 Crossed-off (X's) designs to choose from as well, such as Aztec, pawprints, rope knots, and spirals and there's even a Dark Background mode. They included a 5 x 5 Grid which allows you to see what each tile selection or combination you chose will look like in the game. I do think it's kinda funny that you get all these tile options but they don't have a Custom Cursor option??
There are several Difficulty Mode options, you can play in an Easy Mode which automatically chooses the color for you, a Normal Mode which crosses off the numbers one by one, a Difficult Mode that crosses off numbers once an entire row or column has been completed, or an Intuitive Mode which is a Zen mode that doesn't count mistakes and allows you to work out the puzzle by changing selections.
You earn Crystals for completing the mosaics, a Blue Crystal for making no mistakes, a Green Crystal for making one mistake, and a Yellow Crystal for making 2 mistakes. At the end of each chapter, you must earn a minimum Yellow status to progress to the next chapter, and you must earn a Green or Blue crystal status to access the 4 Bonus Levels per chapter. To earn a Blue Crystal Status on a Chapter as a whole, you must earn a Blue status on all mosaics within the level. There are 14 Chapters (10 levels each with 4 Bonus Chapters) On the Mosaic Grids themselves, there is an Eye that hides the grid, a Color Palette to choose the color bubbles, a Finger or X tab to color or cross-off cells (right & left-clicking works too), and a Heart with the number of Lives or Mistakes available (you can earn more lives by correctly filling in cells)
There is a tab to access the tile selections as well which allows you to switch choices easily. There are only 2 Power-ups available, a Sun icon that fills in a single cell, or a Hammer which fills in a 5-cell (outlined) radius. The power-ups refill by uncovering hammers and suns on the mosaics. Join us on my new forum at thewoodsforum.boards.net

These are still some really boring images and none of the images shown in the BF synopsis are available in the demo with the exception of the first house image. I really wish they would allow you to choose any of the pictures to color in any order.
There are 64 images available but you are forced to finish the first level before moving on to the next. Why do I have to finish one level before proceeding? If you won't let the player see what's in store for them they may not purchase the game based upon the images presented in the demo, you should at least place some interesting pictures on the first level!
They did make the cursor tip slightly smaller and less bulky and you can now drag the cursor to fill in the colors on the entire board as long as you don't let go of the mouse button. In other words, as long as you left-click & hold before dragging a color, only the current number will be filled in, all other numbers will be ignored until you release the mouse button. This is a painting game...so it would be nice to have some actual paintbrush tip options (options is the keyword here as in more than one) There is also a Hint button that will point to any missed areas of the current color, without penalty if you don't feel like swiping over the whole board to catch missed areas.
There's not a whole lot to have to figure out, it's about as uncomplicated and basic as it gets. Paint By Numbers is a computer version of Oil or Colored Pencil Paint by Numbers, and actually closer to the real thing than the Pixel Art versions. Each area has a number and you simply chose the corresponding color bubble from the palette (also numbered) on the right side, left-click to fill in all the numbers with the correct color.
There is a Slider Bar that allows you to zoom in & out as well as a "fit" tab. You can also move the entire page around by right-clicking and dragging. There is a slider bar that allows you to change the color of the background, which now includes a full-color scale.
This doesn't even compare to the recent art By Numbers games lately. Those games have amazing colors that pop, several features, they even have a Freeplay feature that lets you choose your own colors so I think the pressure is on! Won't you please join us on my new forum? thewoodsforum.boards.net ☯
