Northern Tales was one of my favorite TM series, but someone needs to tell these guys that a CE version needs to have more than just a handful of wallpapers and five extra levels! Did anyone notice that this series used to be called Northern Tale (games 1-4), and now it's called Northern Tales?
I didn't have any issues downloading or playing the game, as others have mentioned. I do recall the Hidden Objects in Northern Tales 5 as being wicked hard to find. I loved trying to find the rainbow that alerted me to the hidden object's location. This time they are just laying out in the open, very obvious, and the rainbow doesn't exist, so that aspect alone was disappointing, and I can't help asking, WHY would you get rid of the best feature ever?
I didn't like the constant interruptions of dialog mid-game...it's a TM game, and that disrupts the flow. I played in the Regular (normal) mode and felt there was plenty of time, so that was a plus for me. I love the cute little animals too, and I couldn't help but screw with the little fox because he gets quite annoyed when you click on him.
You can choose to play in a Regular mode, a Legend mode, or a Relaxed mode with no time limits. There are 70 Achievements available across 40 Main levels and 5 Bonus Levels.
All the normal Time Management tasks are here, repairing potholes in paths, repairing bridges and ladders, and collecting food and resources such as stone, gold, and crystals. You will build or repair pig farms, Mines, and Forester's homes so they can chase away the giant wolves. There are resource altars that produce resources at timed intervals and altars that need to be repaired and then lit to appease the gods.
There are several Bonuses to help you achieve your goals, such as Time Freeze for +15 seconds, +1 Viking worker for +15 seconds, Speed up Workers, Restore Resource on the altars, and Faster Building Production. The bonuses can be used multiple times in each level, and most levels offer 3 different kinds of resources; you just have to wait until the bar reaches the desired icon on the Bonus Bar.
Collector's Edition Extras: 5 Additional Levels, 9 Wallpapers, 70 Achievements, 3 Hidden Objects per scene, and NO Strategy Guide...wait for the SE version in about a month; you'll be glad you did!

From ornithologists to Probirders, this game has you covered! I loved finding birds from across the globe, both domesticated and wild, from tiny finches to large storks, pelicans, and birds of prey. I would still love to see a Strategy Guide, at least for the CE version, that lists where all the Morphing Butterflies & Birds are located!
When I first heard the title of the newest game in this series, I was worried that there was just going to be a bunch of finches, parakeets, cockatiels, and an occasional parrot or Macaw but the developer really did a wonderful job of finding a wide variety of birds, both common, and uncommon...and such beautiful birds at that!
Each HO scene has 18 Listed Items to find with a Secondary Zoom Zone Scene. The listed items are highlighted to show which items are available in the current scene. You can zoom in to the scenes (including the zoom zone) by clicking the Magnifying Glass, Right-clicking, Double-clicking, or Scrolling. You can combine these features by clicking on the magnifying glass and THEN scrolling, which zooms into the scene even further...and the graphics still remain crystal clear! I really love this feature, and it works flawlessly every time.
There are no Timers or Misclick penalties, but you will earn more points for making fast consecutive finds (Combo x1, x2, x3, x4, etc.), and you'll earn more points if you don't use the Hint feature. Even though you aren't racing against the clock, you will earn a Gold, Silver, or Bronze Star depending on how many points you earn, so making combos is vital if you want to earn a Gold Star.
GOLD STAR TIP: it helps to concentrate on finding all collectible birds & morphing butterflies on the 1st attempt; while taking your time to find the listed items. Then you simply replay the scene (you won't have to bother with finding the collectibles if you found them the first go-round, they will still appear in the replay scenes, but the game registers them as already collected), Because you are familiar with the HO scene at this point, it's usually easier to find the listed items quickly, even though the items to find change each time you replay a scene.
There are 16 Hidden Birds in every scene, including within the Zoom Zone. The Birds will convert to Adopt Points, allowing you to adopt 14 different birds (20 in the CE version), even an adorable penguin! Each scene also has three beautiful Morphing Butterflies, some of which are tough to spot! Each Morphing butterfly equals 3 Puzzle Pieces in your Butterfly Album. Simply "release" your butterflies and drag the round puzzle pieces to the correct area to complete a beautiful butterfly that can be downloaded as wallpaper. (18 total, 24 in the CE version)
After every HO Scene, you will play a side-by-side HO scene (with three additional birds), Spot the Differences, a puzzle, or a mini-game, such as Cycling through square tiles until the correct image has been discovered or dragging colored squares to a grid, from light to dark, for each individual color.
COLLECTOR'S EDITION EXTRAs: 21 Wallpapers, 8 Developer's Bird pictures, 10 Music Soundtracks, 18 Main Scene Locations (Florida, Missouri, Naxos, Guatemala, Madison, Yunnan, Arkansas, Strabane, Telengana, Grand Est, Sonora, Manti-La-Sal, Hessen, Tochigi, St. Clair, New Hampshire, Oaxaca, Wessex) +6 Collector's Edition Extra Bonus Locations (Shizvolca, Shropshire, Pahang, Taounate, Mie, Sumba) 20 Adoptable Birds (14 Adoptable Birds in this SE version), 12 Bonus mini-games, and Scene Location Fun Facts.

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES IN THIS BEAUTIFULLY REMASTERED EDITION OF AWAKENING

Completed Original Awakening Series & Remastered Versions 44 Main Game Scene Locations +10 Bonus Chapter Difficulty Range: Beginner-Intermediate-Advanced (choose how much hand-holding you want)
BoomZap has made this Awakening fan very happy! I want to explain a few misconceptions here because this developer deserves more credit. This is an old-school game, some may love the style, and others who are used to playing cloned games by the usual developer may hate it. BoomZap remastered this game... they did not create a new game! They upgraded the graphics, added collectibles, and a Bonus Chapter. They made the game compatible with newer computers...this is what a remastered game is. If you love the original Awakening series, as I do, you will be delighted!
BTW: The original Awakening: Moonfell Wood was only available as a Standard Edition. Awakening fans submitted a staggering 180 reviews, and 135 of those reviewers gave the game five stars and a 4.4 average star rating...for an SE! This Remastered version is the same beloved story with the same game mechanics; the only addition was a Bonus Chapter and Collectibles! This remastered version is still that same 4.4 average-rated game, maybe even more because it now has collectibles, an additional Bonus chapter, bonus content, and better graphics, not to mention it now works on newer computers!
One reviewer complained about repeating the scenes after the demo; apparently, they didn't pay attention to the story. Sophie enters Moonfell Wood at night; in fact, the night doesn't end. You will notice that some tasks explain that Sophia will have to investigate the task further in daylight. Eventually, Sophia brings daylight back to Moonfell Wood; therefore, she revisits the scenes again, this time in daylight! As Sophia returns to a location, new characters, puzzles, tasks, and of course, collectibles become available!
There weren't voiceovers in the original game other than a narration recap at the start of the game explaining Sophia's background of a dreamless sleep for 100 years and her journey to find her family or any human for that matter. Again, they simply remastered Moonfell Wood; they didn't change how the game plays.
GADGETS & HELPERS Mira the fairy has returned to help Princess Sophia in her quest to find her family and other humans. Mira is actually the Hint icon, and although she does chime in once in a while via Text dialog, she doesn't actually do anything. Eventually, you discover a pocket pet Dragon. Once you tame his growling belly, he sticks around to help light things up with his tiny dragon breath. He doesn't wiggle, and he doesn't say anything, so he's not obtrusive or distracting.
MINI-GAMES: Yes, this game is chock-full of mini-games; however, they are actually puzzles that are easily solved, none of which are complicated or frustrating. You may have to untangle ropes or rearrange figurines according to descriptions, but mostly they are jigsaws with fragmented pieces or puzzles that require swapping and rotating pieces. I thoroughly enjoyed the puzzles, sometimes I want a relaxing game with fun puzzles to solve that don't require brain strain, and Moonfell Wood was just that!
JOURNAL: There is a Journal...a useful journal! Not only does it contain a more detailed version of the story, but it has a unique feature found only in the Awakening Series (that I'm aware of) The journal allows you to "Pin" a page, as well as drag the picture to a desired spot to reference drawings or clues that help solve a picture or puzzle! I miss the days when Journals and Diaries were useful tools!
HIDDEN OBJECT SCENES: Technically, there aren't a lot of Hidden Object Scenes, well, not in the traditional sense. There are several Interactive List Finds available, but there are also several smaller HOs where you are tasked with finding multiple butterflies, birds, or symbols on various Forest Cards. There are a lot of Matching Pairs, some are hidden behind leaves requiring you to open two leaves at a time, while others give descriptions of the shape, etc., that you need to find.
COLLECTIBLES & MORPHING OBJECTS: The original Awakening: Moonfell Woods did not have collectibles or morphs. There are 88 Morphing Characters and 88 Tri-Peaks Cards, 2 of each in every scene. (44 scenes total) if you click on the Crown in the bottom left corner, it will show you how many have been found in the current scene. They are fairly easy to spot, but that's understandable because they were added to existing scene graphics, which is more difficult. I still enjoyed this feature even though they were easily spotted.
TRI-PEAKS SOLITAIRE: During the game, you are challenged to a game of tri-peaks with a goblin. A lot of people enjoyed this feature, so they have added 46 Bonus Tri-peaks games to play with your new-found Cards in the Extras section!
BONUS CHAPTER: Sophia takes to the skies aboard a Griffin to meet her family...there's just one problem. The Griffin has ulterior motives and heads for a remote island! You will discover the What's and Whys in this newly added Bonus Chapter that wasn't available in the original version!
COLLECTOR'S EDITION EXTRAS: 12 incredibly gorgeous Wallpapers (the best I've ever seen), 18 before/After Concept Art (called Devs Journal), 46 Tri-peaks Solitaire Games (Higher/Lower), 20 Achievements, 88 Morphing Characters, 88 Collectible Cards (2 of each in every scene), a Bonus Chapter, and a built-in Strategy Guide...there are no Video Sequences that were apparently available in 1 pirated game?

The review page synopsis says "A tale of solitaire mastery" It's pretty easy to master a solitaire game you've played a billion times!
Have you ever wondered why this developer never even attempts to make a different kind of solitaire game? It's because that would require them to program a game from scratch instead of just changing the title and calling it a brand-new game! I came across a website recently that listed the revenue stats for each of these games, and trust me, they went from hero to zero pretty quickly so it baffles me that they don't attempt to offer something new, obviously this type of solitaire ain't making them rich!
It's pretty Grimm when you know exactly what features a game will have even before downloading the demo. It's pretty Grimm when you know the music and sounds by heart. It's pretty Grimm when you know the Shop will have the same three items for the same prices. It's pretty Grimm when you know the levels by heart because they are always the same. It's horribly Grimm when you know for a fact that it will be another Solitaire game that doesn't allow you to remove all of the cards and that the game will end when you remove the Gold cards...it's a Grimm Tale indeed!
You can choose from 9 uninteresting themed card backs and three face card fonts, and yes, the cards are the same cards offered in the previous game. You are forced to begin the game in Newbie mode, which allows you to replay any hand; then, if you prefer, you can switch to the Professional mode, which only allows you to replay the entire pack of 10 levels. You need to earn a specified amount of points to unlock the next pack, and the scoring is similar to bowling. In the event of a perfect score, the points of that level are added to the next.
The tutorial always makes you click another card off of the deck, even though there are several playable card options available on the board. (but then again, you don't really need a tutorial if you have played any other solitaire game by this developer)
When you remove a Bonus card with a Swirly Gem, it will take forever as it freezes continued gameplay to tell you what you won. Most of the time, it gives you +499 extra points, but occasionally, you'll get a Joker, Mulligan, or a Shuffle. Because it takes so long, finding two of these cards back to back is sheer agony!
This game may be boring, but you can always stop by my new forum for some real fun at thewoodsforum.boards.net

Completed Game in about 4 hours (including completion of all mini-games & CE Bonus Chapter) 17 Main Game Scene Locations +8 Bonus Chapter Difficulty Range: Beginner-Intermediate
I love twisted fairytales, and I was looking forward to this second game in the Cursed Fables series. This time we have a soul-sucking monster who seems to prefer draining the life from the men of the village and sending them back home clueless, not a shred of memory from their past...oh well, they probably didn't have anything important on their mind anyway lol.
Here's my issue with this game and most of the new releases by Elephant Games; they aren't making CEs very worthy lately! They aren't even bothering to put Collectibles in the Bonus Chapter lately, and the collectibles are pretty lame. I don't mind a short game, in fact, I prefer a short game over a game with a gazillion repetitive tasks. I felt that the story was interesting enough, and the tasks weren't as boring as they tend to be in games by this developer. Unless you just have to have the game asap, I would suggest waiting for the SE version next month!
MORPHING OBJECTS/COLLECTIBLES: (CE version only) There are no Morphing Objects, just 12 Tarot Cards and 12 Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces that allow you to assemble a Jigsaw in the Secret Room after completing the game. Another member stated there were 24 Puzzle Pieces to collect, but that isn't the case, there are two 12-piece jigsaw puzzles, but the first jigsaw puzzle has all the pieces right from the start, and the puzzle can be assembled before you even start the game. (there are no video sequences available in the extras menu either)
HIDDEN OBJECT SCENES: The Hidden Object Scenes are rather disappointing; once again, I was able to find most of the objects without looking at the list because they were so obvious. There are Listed Item Finds, Silhouetted Shape Finds, Find & Replace, Swatch Finds, and a handful of smaller Zoom Zone HO's. There are no alternate games available in lieu of the HOs. . MINI-GAMES/PUZZLES: The mini-games were just okay, some were fun, some were boring, and they did put a little bit of a twist on some older games, such as a game of "Blocks" where you are moving sheep out of your path. They seem to be offering a lot of labyrinth-style puzzles lately, which gets kind of boring after a while.
BONUS CHAPTER: (Collector's Edition version only) Leonard Harold's Royal Envoy has been tasked with negotiating peace with a neighboring kingdom; unfortunately, a cabinet member is trying to sabotage the relationship between the two kingdoms. There are four additional Mini-Games and 6 Hidden Object Scenes within 8 additional scene locations. After completing the Bonus Chapter the Expedition Room becomes available, which allows you to search for any missing collectibles, and you can complete the jigsaws in the Secret Room.
COLLECTOR'S EDITION EXTRAS: 4 Wallpapers, 4 Music Soundtracks, 22 Achievements, 12 Tarot Cards Collections, 12 Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces, 2 Jigsaw Puzzles, 13 Mini-Games & 13 Hidden Object Scenes, an Expedition Room which allows you to return to the scenes to search for missed collectibles, a Secret Room to assemble Jigsaws, 5 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter, and a Built-In Strategy Guide.

This game isn't just designed for Mosaic fans; it has so much variety that Jigsaw geeks will be thrilled, Hidden Object fans will rejoice, and even fans of the Jewel Match castle-building feature will flip! The graphics couldn't be more beautiful, AND there is an actual storyline that unfolds as you progress...it doesn't get better than this, folks!
You can play in a Relaxed Mode with no limits for Mistakes and no timer, a Normal Mode with a specified number of Mistakes allotted, an Advanced Mode, which doesn't cross off the numbers until the entire Row & Column has been completed, and a Freestyle mode that allows you to fill-in or restore tiles until you complete the puzzle correctly.
You can earn up to 3 stars per level depending on the number of Hints used and a Gold, Silver, or Bronze Medal depending on the number of Mistakes you made. Puzzle progress is saved when you exit, and you can replay any level.
Each Grid has Powerups, Keys, and Chrystal's, randomly distributed and hidden behind the Cells. Keys unlock additional color bubbles; Power-ups add either an additional Hint, extend the number of Mistakes allotted, or recharge the Hammer & Bomb Powerups. (Hammer reveals a colored cell-Bombs clear a 3x3 area) Crystals are used to build elements of the beautiful Sanctuary.
Mini-games are unlocked with the Stars earned, there are 9 Spot the Differences, 9 Hidden Object Scenes, and 9 Jigsaw Puzzle levels. I loved the Morphing Crystal Hidden Object Scene, and the STD levels are really challenging!

A QUALITY HOPA MADE WITH TLC...JUST LIKE THEY WERE BACK IN THE DAY!

Just when I was convinced that the HOPA genre was ruined and would never be the same, along comes a new game from Dragonseye to restore my faith! This is a thinking kind of game and very similar to Moontrain as far as the game mechanics, you'll know this game is special right out of the gate. I wasn't expecting much when I read the synopsis but once I started the game and saw the Dragonseye Ltd. logo popped up I immediately exited the game and purchased it. This is an incredible game with a fantastic story, the kind of game where you feel a sense of pride and accomplishment every step of the way...the kind of game they used to make back in the day!
INTERACTIVE ITEMS: Objects with a + Sign require combining 2 inventory items which is nothing new, however, items with an Eyeball require you to click the eyeball (not the item itself) you may need to select a specific key on a ring, or fiddle with the object to manipulate its shape or function because these items are usually used multiple times with slightly different functions. After setting the item correctly the item can then be used by clicking on the item (not on the eyeball) and then placing it on the item in the scene.
COLLECTIBLES & MORPHING OBJECTS (CE Version) There are 12 Morphing Objects, 27 Symbols of Luck, and 7 Gnomes to search for, all of which are blended into the scenery with the perfect amount of challenge!
HIDDEN OBJECT SCENES: If you played Moontrain you know that the Hidden Object Scenes are fantastic. Some are easy, some are difficult just figuring out what you're supposed to do! In the first HO you have to scroll through images until both halves create an image and then search for the item and repeat the process for each item. One of my favorite HOs was finding coins to use in a bubblegum machine one at a time. After inserting a coin you turn the handle and a ball rolls out with an image X3. Once you find all 3 of the objects, you find another coin and repeat the process...super fun!
MINI-GAMES The mini-games aren't difficult and they are fun enough that you won't feel like skipping them. Games include turning pipes to make 4 connections to the central disk, flipping buckles to find matching pairs, etc. Some of the games require entering codes or patterns previously found in the game scenes so you may have to sift through notes in your journal!

Why are they making these games with such childish objects, who exactly is their targeted audience? The objects to find are getting downright ridiculous, now we are tasked with removing "Animals wearing clothes" and every level has hundreds of cartoon characters to match. I suppose it's too much to ask for normal objects and goals from a game based on an animal family living normal lives in a big city.
My questions still go unanswered...Why do I have to erase "player" before putting my name in the profile? Why can't I skip the conversations? Why are there more Sun Hints than objects to find on each level? Why does the developer feel the need to show his Fancy Bear scores with twice the amount of points as everyone else on every single level? (Isn't it a given that the creator of the levels would automatically know the best strategies?) Why does the Walker Family name their kids whatever species they are, such as Squirrel, or Hare? (Let's hope they never have twins, the developer may have to resort to Thing 1 and Thing 2!) Why do I not know where Canadian Geese migrate to after leaving Ohio for the winter...do they migrate north to Canada where it's colder or do they migrate south like a normal bird? Why are there Canadian Geese in Ohio in the summer in the first place, were they just too lazy to make the final flight to Canada? Why have the geese returned already, were they just pretending to migrate? (has nothing to do with the game but the questions remain unanswered) Why is it that when I try to submit a review, I'm instantly taken to the "sign in" page but once "signed in" the page says "redirection" for an eternity, and by eternity I mean forever, so you have to manually click on the BF website to go back to the sales page?
There are only two modes of difficulty, Easy Mode which has no time restraints, and Difficult Mode with a time limit that gives you 500 extra points for not using Hints, and 10 extra points for time remaining.
There are 140 Clutter knockoff levels and 20 mini-games. The puzzles are always the same puzzles, most of which are simple square swap variations with complicated mechanics, such as swapping adjacent squares, and each time you swap a square the orientation changes. (I'm convinced that the finished pictures are rehashed over & over!)
Do you know the answer to the Canadian Geese question or any of my other questions above? Awesome, swing by my new forum and put these age-old questions to rest! thewoodsforum.boards.net

Every game has the same Match 3 boards, the same goals, the same obstacles, and the same game mechanics AND they are in the exact same order as the game before...why would I want to buy the same game over and over just to get a new story? Surely everyone has purchased at least one game by this developer by now, given the fact that they offer a different titled game on a weekly basis.
There are Chained Tiles, Spiderwebs, wooden chests, and of course, gold cells to make matches upon, yet most of the obstacles are bogus and don't really require action on the players' part unless there is a gold cell under one of the obstacles.
Once again, you must purchase all 4 World Upgrades to progress to the next Chapter. The upgrades still aren't very interesting nor are they colorful. It completely defeats the purpose of an upgrade, the purpose is to keep the player enthusiastic about playing so they want to finish building the kingdom, not inconvenienced by the annoyance.
Powerups are always the same, they simply give them a new name, this developer has to be making some serious bank if all they ever have to do is change the names of the previous game.

I've been an animal lover all my life, so naturally, I was drawn to this game but it didn't have the "it" factor I was hoping for. I'll be honest, it doesn't sit well with me that this developer keeps making games that are dead-ringers for successful HOG series' that other developers created. First, they carbon-copied every Vacation Adventure feature with Big Adventure, now they are swooping in with a knockoff of the I Love Finding Cats/Dogs/Critters/Birds series. It's one thing to create a similar format but it doesn't seem right that they take a ride on the shirt sleeves of those who worked really hard to create a name for themselves, those who came up with an original theme, and unique features...
The graphics are decent, however, the game mechanics are a bit sluggish. It seems to take forever before the score window pops up after completing a level, the silhouetted shape "extra" animals can be clicked on in any order (before their silhouette shows up) yet when you do click on an animal out of sequence it penalizes you by not giving you the 3rd star even though you earned the extra points and it shows that you found all the animals in-game. Objects are often mislabeled, such as a "street lantern" which is just a simple hanging porch lamp, or a "dwarf" which is actually a garden gnome.
There are 12-16 Listed Items to find, with an occasional second-level round mixup of Silhouetted Shapes, Descriptive finds, or Multiples of the same Object. Items in Blue are tasks that need to be completed, such as assembling a lamp. Each level has a different number of Silhouetted Shape pets to find as shown in the box on the bottom left, and there are secondary zoom zones as well.
You will earn a Red Star for completing a level, a Yellow Star for quick finds (x2-x3), and a Blue Star for finding all Silhouetted Shape pets. Points are converted to Pet money to allow you to purchase 20 Pet Shop animals, two of which are Raccoons??
Collector's Edition Extras: 8 Bonus Levels, 8 Bonus Puzzles, 12 Wallpapers, 20 Pet Shop Animals, 18 Music Soundtracks.
